Eamonn’s Of Brooklyn

Closed since the end of January… still no activity inside. I wonder when a new place will fill this spot.

This is a bar surrounded by a ton of other bar choices; but one which seems to say, «hey, we don’t really need you». Its content to go its own way; and not really care about attracting new business. It seems to want to survive on its ‘regulars’ exclusively. Everything inside the bar is set up for their comfort; for a particular kind of guys-​just-​back-​from-​the-​softball-​game type of «hey Petey, how ya doin’ I called ya Wednesday where were ya?» crowd. Sure, you *can* wander in here as a complete stranger and get a beer and some pub food and its kitschy and warm and cheery. But it always feels as if you’re sitting in someone’s ‘reserved’ seat. The bartender just serves you rather flatly; and goes back to talking to the people he knows. So its not a ‘bad’ bar. You’ll never find any trouble in here; no hassles. But its just. I dunno. :shrug:

This place is a hole.
A few pieces of advice for the proprietor:
1) Try cleaning your taps. The beer is flat and sour.
2) Don’t jack up the few customers you do have with prices more in line with a proper pub/​restaurant. $ 7 for flat, stale, sour, nasty beer? No buybacks? WTF?
3) Perhaps try staffing the place appropriately. One guy bartending, waiting, and perhaps even cooking.
It seems this place is on it’s way to closing as the bar was nearly empty of liquor and most menu items were not available. In my view, this dump can’t close soon enough.

I went here after reading some of the positive reviews, but the restaurant was sold recently. They didn’t have several beers on tap that were listed on the menu, they didn’t have several menu items, and the service was terrible.
My girlfriend ordered a sandwich originally, but the waiter came back and said they didn’t have any sandwiches. They only had the bar menu available, so we ordered fish and chips and chicken tenders. The waiter came back and explained that they were out of chicken tenders, so we went with two orders of fish and chips. Ultimately we got an order of fries and an order of fish and chips — not what we ordered.
Don’t waste your time with this place.

Went here for a company holiday party. I must say that this place always reminds me of a bar from yester-​year. It has this old fashion pub quality that almost doesn’t match the neighborhood but does match cheap happy-​hour after-​work crowd that it caters to.
The house ale is simply disgusting. I’d prefer a Coors or Bud than drink that poor excuse of an ale.
Lately the front of the house staff were annoying hawking our section asking us to use a closet to hang our coats. This closet has a sign that reads something along the lines of «we are not responsible for any lost or stolen items.»…just added to the uninviting scene that Eamonn’s seems to offer.

This place kind of sucked. Ladies night was two for one but our waitress didn’t want to let my wife switch it up with her drinks. «If you order one cider, you get two.» If it’s the same price or less, why does it matter? She ended up giving her a beer instead but she wasn’t pleasant about it. She also looked at us like we had penguins balancing on our heads when we each had 2 drinks, no food, and asked for the check. It’s a bar! Sometimes people dont want food!
The last straw was the bouncer at the front door, checking ID’s. Nothing wrong with him as a person or as a bouncer. Its just that the door got left open and he was smoking a cigar. The whole bar was filling up with the smell. Kind of stinky.
Probably wont go back. Go to Woodrow’s. It’s right next door and they give you free beer when you check in.

Went here after I had an amazing spa day down the street (see my review on Eden Day Spa). I was incredibly relaxed when the I left the spa, only to be nearly killed by a bus crossing the street. I decided I needed to a drink (paltry excuse, but hey – it was my day off) and had spotted this little gem when I had gotten off the subway. I stopped in, looking a little worse for the wear, and was not surprised to only see 4 people sitting at the spacious bar (it was, after all, 3 PM on a Sunday afternoon), and to see that I was the only female.
The sign outside the bar has said that there were $ 3 Miller Light Drafts, which was part of what had drawn me in the first place. The Miller Keg wasn’t working all that well, so the bartender recommended another beer (I can’t remember the name of it – maybe Killigan’s)? He charged me the same amount as the Miller Light, even though it was at least a $ 5 draft, and after I had 3 at the $ 3 price, even gave me a pint on the house! Oh, and the potato skins are amazing!
I also loved the fact that they were playing the Bourne Trilogy on TNT as opposed to loud music, and I sat at the end of the well-​lit bar reading a book and was not bothered by anyone, except the bartender occasionally asking me if I wanted a refill of my water or beer.
I did enjoy my time here. I will definitely be going back with the boyfriend in tow!

They earned their 5 stars ’cause I dropped my wallet here… I didn’t realize it until the next day… and when I called they had it for me, and when I came back to get it, absolutely everything was still inside it. And there was quite a lot of everything inside it. Getting it all back was more than my karma deserves.
I give them the MOST HONEST BAR STAFF award!
Aside from the life-​saving coolness of getting all my stuff back, it’s a pretty cool Irish bar. Decent selection of beers, comfy atmosphere, nice booths to sit in, and typical bar food. The music is on the loud side — and there’s also a room in the basement that features live music.

Some friends and I decided to come here on a Saturday night to attend a Murder Mystery Dinner that we had purchased on one of those deal sites, and the overall recommendation isn’t a very positive one.
To be fair, it was the combination of the two that are leading to this poor review. The dinner was in the rear of the restaurant, up on a tight stage. Our «deal» allowed us to have a salad, entrée, and dessert along with the ability to pay for drinks. The show was just average (if not a little lame), but it was the meal that was the major disappointment. The best way to describe it would be cheap, processed, and tough. I had the Chicken Parm (a tough piece of «meat» swimming in watery sauce and cheese) while my boyfriend had steak that was just a bunch of tough little pieces of meat. The drinks were weak and watery, but still carried the higher NYC price tag.
Perhaps it would be a different experience if you were just heading to the bar, otherwise I would have rated this establishment with only one star.

I’ve eaten lunch here several times and really enjoyed it. It’s a large, comfortable space that is usually not very crowded, with a good lunch selection of reasonably priced lunch options. They have lunch specials from Sunday through Wednesday I believe. The room has high ceilings so it can be a little chilly, but there is a gas fireplace and you can often get a seat by the fire which is nice in the winter. Get a nice cold draft served (certain days) by the beautiful and friendly Rachel to go with it, and you’re all set to have a good lunch experience. For those that like a low-​key and down-​to-​earth spot, this is a good place in a great neighborhood for lunch and after-​work drinks.

Came here for murder mystery awhile back. The place is nice and the staff were friendly! The show was fun but you def need people in your table that want to participate.
The food was ok. I don’t know if it will be different if it wasnt for the murder mystery. I would def want to try this place again!

We went to the Murder Mystery play, the atmosphere was ok but nothing out of the ordinary. The food was eh. The drinks were fine. The best part was that they had Purple Haze on tap. Very quiet bar, no one was there except the people for the MM.

My review is tempered by the fact that I was there for the Murder Mystery Theater and didn’t ACTUALLY get to taste the food. What I had was pretty awful as some of the other particpants have said. I’m glad I had the experience for $ 29 as opposed to the $ 60 others paid, I would have been pissed.
My «steak» was hard and pink, and cold even thought I asked for well done. They only provided one type of dressing for the salad and the dessert, ice cream with chocolate sauce, came with crappy ice cream and crappy whipped cream (no more chocolcate sauce apparently because the waitress didn’t even notice the missing sauce until I asked her). What did she replace it with you ask? Entenmann’s apple pie with??? (You guess it! No, not chocolate sauce) crappy whipped cream.
I acutally thank God my meal was palatable because I didn’t drop down dead, but the girl in front of me had to wait for her meal an extra 20 minutes and when it came it was sweet (pasta primaravera… wtf?) and then it took her another 15 to 20 minutes to get a replacement.
As for the murder mystery… it was really hard to understand and I think the killer could have received high marks if we even remembered he was a character. Plus, 1) we were seated on the stage, behind the ‘actors” and therefore couldn’t see anything, 2) the audio system was crappy for we couldn’t hear anything, 3) the DJ (one of the «real actors») was talking funny and it took me the whole night to realize she was supposed to be a shock jock from the 1950s. LMFAO
I’m glad some nice guys gave me a parking spot because I would have given this place half a star… NO PARKING ANYWHERE!!! Whole Foods and Ground Zero are a block away. Hulllooo Wall Street… get ready to pay big time!

We came in on a quiet Sunday night and there were not that many people at all. The bartender (manager?) was very helpful and nice, he kept coming around to make sure we were OK and had a very welcoming demeanor. The waiter was also very quick in bringing us our order and checked in on us as well. The atmosphere of the place is pretty chill and there are televisions to watch sports on.
The food was pretty good. The steak was my favorite because of its special sauce and mushrooms. Their burger (especially the bacon) was good too, and so were their mashed potatoes/​cheese fries. The only «meh» part of their menu was the regular french fries. Everything else was delicious!
Definitely would pay another visit.

I went here for drinks and dancing after my birthday dinner. The DJs were good, the music –90’s and current hip hop, R&B, reggae — was great, and the drinks were strong. I had a wonderful time!

I hit Eamonn’s for lunch last week in hopes of finding a new spot for midday victuals.
The décor is great. In fact, this place is the TARDIS of Irish pubs… it is way bigger on the inside. I feel like this should be a good sitting-​and-​drinking bar, but I didn’t see any happy hour specials listed anywhere. I hear they do karaōke on Fridays.
The food was decent, nothing to write home about. I had the burger, which was done appropriately and tasted pretty good. The bacon they put on there was the star of the plate. A friend got the bangers and mash and I was marginally jealous.
Everything was clean, the servers were polite or friendly, and generally attentive. I’d give it a better rating but it seemed that something was missing. I’ll update this review after I try it out for sitting-​and-​drinking.

I’ve become somewhat of a regular at this fine Irish establishment.
The bartenders and staff are excellent and the crowd is energetic and jovial making for a very friendly and fun atmosphere. The beers and shots are always flowing. The bartenders don’t miss a beat.
The irish fare is pretty good too. The irish sausage and mash, shepherd’s pie and fish and chips will not disappoint. I try to get my weekly fix.
The rest of the bar menu is above average bar quality. A simple burger or chicken wrap will surely satisfy both your taste buds and your belly.
Don’t be afraid to try the occasional special entrees. They may surprise you. The chef is not afraid to experiment and cook out of the box!
Whether you’re throwing darts in the back or enjoying live music or simply stopping in for a few quick ones before visiting NYD, Eamonns is a place to be!

I really don’t know if Eamonn’s is good or evil, but I’ll tell you this: It might be the best bar in New York.
Posing as a typical Irish pub in a rather dead neighborhood in lower Manhattan, Eamonn’s serves good food, has a full bar and has everything you’d expect a good bar to have, darts, lots of seating, a juke box and a couple arcade games. But what really makes Eamonn’s so great are the small cadre of regulars and bartenders who actually do know your name and are legitimately happy to see you when you come in.
I’ve recently been working on a project in the area and on any given night, there’s always a few of us over there. I don’t know if it’s because we’re basically keeping them in business or they’re just awesome, but these guys give drinks away like it’s the most important part of their jobs. I’ve been stopped numerous times on my way out by the bartender, not for failing to pay my tab, but for failing to take a free shot for the road. On one particularly quiet night, a bartender that will remain nameless (to protect his identity) said «I’m going to have a smoke, watch the bar. Feel free to pour yourself a beer if you’d like.» Yeah, it’s that awesome.
From the good times in the back playing darts, to watching a co-​worker on «Who Wants to be a Millionaire» to singing along to Britney Spears with the drunken owner, I’ve always had great times at Eamonns.
So why am I not sure if Eamonn’s is good or evil? Go there one night and you’ll be asking yourself the same question the next morning.

Went to an Irish pub on St. Paddy’s Day after working all day, and I wanted to drink some Guinness without being crushed by the crowd that’s been drinking all day. St. Paddy’s Day, for drinkers, is the kind of day where you’re bombed by 10am and stay that way through the entire day & night. If you’ve worked all day though, there’s a striking contrast between what is bearable, regarding crowds.
Eamonn’s did not disappoint. You normally find me next door (yes, 2 Irish pubs side by side), but that place had already become overrun with NYU students. Eamonn’s was full, but you had room to stand, and grab a stool if you hung around long enough. They had good flowing Guinness and bartenders who were very attentive despite the throngs of drunks. It took no time to get a drink.
The folks here were older, I’d say 25+. It was like the adult room, compared to the group in the bar next door, where the average age was about 21. They played great old school Dropkick Murphy’s (PRE-​Shipping Up To Boston & Tessie!), mixed with the Pogues, and other Irish greats.
They really changed my perspective on the place. I didn’t think there would be any redeeming quality of the place, but I’m certain I’ll be back for a pint or 6.

This amazing neighborhood place is just the right fit. Darts in the back, Big Buck Hunter in the front, and the bartenders remember our name every time we come in.
The wait staff are mostly irish, the ladies are good looking, and make great suggestions.
The food is simple, tasty, and well planned.
The drinks are fast, Irish, and reasonably priced.
Its a great place to stop on the way to the PATH at WTC, or on your way in. (though i should warn you… the B&T crowd gets slower service than locals)
