Gansevoort Meatpacking NYC

Was a guest here during the week. The elevator crew is all minority yet they still kept insisting I had no place here. I was even asked if I work at Exhale. I know it’s a public place, but I felt extremely unwelcome.

I’m actually staying here right now and it’s a very nice setting. Great location and close to so many shopping places. The only thing I was very unhappy about is the staff at the Gansevoort Hotel. The security is pretty rude and the door man was rude as well. I paid a lot of money to stay here with my husband & we felt harassed by the door man when trying to come in to our room. He asked for my iD which I did not have because it was in my room. I was left outside for a while until everything got figured out. Kind of a turn off when you’re paying so much money. Besides that incident everything seems okay.

I arrived about seven hours before check-​in and was offered a room on the third floor with a patio but no view. It was pretty awesome that they could accommodate me so early, but I decided to visit a friend and wait for my 11^th floor room.
I was greeted with a lovely bottle of wine and truffles when I entered my room. Everything was perfect. I didn’t have any outside noise at all. The bathroom had all of the amenities. I had to call to make sure the wine wasn’t part of the mini bar (wasn’t). Everything else comes at a cost (except for the bathroom amenities), which is a little misleading. The unlabeled energy shots look free, but they are eight bucks a pop! Good thing I called before opening one.
The pool was great, and there was plenty of room to swim. Most people were sunbathing.

Hell yes. Take the elevator ALL THE WAY UP to the PH. Awesome Sunday funday at the rooftop bar. This place was really jumping. My friend and I had a sick time! Don’t come dressed like a bum and bring your $$$$$$… Music was getting us in the best Sunday summer mood.

Everytime I come here and I always have a great time! Drinks can be a bit pricey, but thats given if you go anywhere in the Meatpacking District. My favorite thing about it here is the view! Its gorgeous! You can be on a rooftop and being inside if its too cold.
I’ve been to gansevoort park and its not the same! Both are a good time, but I prefer it the one in MP more. Definitely come here if you’re not from around here. I brought my friends from SD here and they loved it!
Note* This is a location that does ratio at the door. You must have a girl for every guy. I went with 2 girls and 3 guys and they allowed us in.

I came here for the rooftop bar with some business partners and once with friends and enjoyed the drinks and appetizers. The view was stunning and the waitstaff was friendly, but hard to catch at times. I think its the long walk that keeps them. If you come early enough after work or during the week, I have not experienced any lines at all!

Came here to celebrate My birthday on the rooftop and stayed at the hotel. Great friendly staff and easy check in and check out. My sister had a bit too much to drink and slept on the floor since there was just 1 bed.
When she got up she had a lot if bites on her neck and body which was pretty gross. If your staying at this hotel I’d watch what I put on the floor.

If you ask me, This hotel is is quickly going down the drain.
Gansevoort was the place to be 5 or some years ago (well it is is — but competition is stiff nowadays). They have a nice bar to chill and hangout, but other than that, can’t really say much about this hotel anymore. The #2 place for a social climber to hang out in the meat packing district!
For $ 400 a night for a standard room, you’d think you’d get at least a decent service from staff, but often, you can smell their attitude 10 feet away.

This place is pretty fancy and definitely gorgeous. I prefer to come on afternoons during the weekend and sit in the outdoor area rather than on the weekends because it’s less crowded.
Keep in mind that that the bouncers get selective at the door on weekend at night so boys, look your best and have a plan B in case you aren’t with some girls. It’s a good place to have a drink but there’s never any dancing; people are just mingling. Drinks are expensive.

Three night stay with my wife and two kids (pre-​teen and teen). While clearly not the hotel’s focus, they did a nice job of accommodating us. The room was bigger than most with two doubles in Manhattan. The bathroom was large. Everything was clean. We had a nice balcony that overlooked the West Village. Breakfast is very simple and very expensive; go elsewhere. The lobby and rooftop bars are both serviceable, nothing more. The pool table in the lobby was a nice diversion for the kids.

Came here last night with a group of about 9 people to celebrate my friend’s birthday. There were 6 girls and three guys.
We had a great time here. The music was good, it was crowded but there was space, and the crowd was ideal — didn’t run into any sleezy people, everyone kept it classy, seemed like it was mostly a younger crowd (but some mixed), and were well-​dressed.
The coat check cost $ 4 per coat, which wasn’t bad at all. There was only one bathroom stall, however, but there was a woman there keeping everything in order and making sure the line went by smoothly.
The music was to my liking. It was hype enough for everyone to be really into it, but not super EDM either. There was a good mix of top 40 and throwbacks — all were remixed to some degree.
Drinks were pretty expensive, but I didn’t mind it. I paid $ 15 for a cranberry vodka for my friend who’s birthday it was. It seemed like they were just charging $ 15 flat for most drinks that didn’t involve a complex component.
The bouncers were very nice. When we were first going in – they denied these two guys who tried to get in because they were just two guys. But they quickly let the nine of us through when they saw we were mostly girls and very well-​dressed. Me and two of my friends also went outside for about 5 minutes in between, and they let us bypass the line to go back inside after we showed our stamp.
Overall, very positive experience. I will definitely come back sometime when in the Chelsea/​Meatpacking area.

Amazing picturesque views from this bar! I came here with a bunch of cousins and my husband. There is no dance floor but people end up dancing when the music pumps up around their tables. But it does get noisy so don’t expect you can quality conversation with your friends if you are in here.
The staff is courteous but a bit slow. I would give it a ⁷⁄₁₀ because of the view of Manhattan!

Loved the music, one of the top picks for the weekend. Fun place to be with be it in a group or bring on a date. Beautiful view from the rooftop, till you get drunk. The couch on the sides gives this place an extra point… overall a 8.5÷10
Music is a mix of all genre, so no one goes home disappointed.
Shows the spirit of NYC. work hard, but party harder!

I have to agree with the «okay» rating most people give, perhaps because we had high expectations for this «four star» hotel. There were things we liked, especially for a girlfriends’ shopping trip (rooftop bar, spa, location, complementary bottle of wine) and things we didn’t (who charges for in-​room coffee??) The «everything in the room is for sale» came off as totally obnoxious – even the turndown service returned the $ 10 stuffed animal to be in our faces. Why would anyone willing to pay $ 500 a night be interested in cheesy country fair quality souvenirs? We did thoroughly entertain our husbands by texting pictures of the wine and «intimacy kit.» Overall, the hotel seems to rely too heavily on being a «be seen» place for celebs, apparently unaware of how short-​lived that’s likely to be.

A yoga hunt led me to this building — a partnership between exhale fusion (which has a studio in the building) and reebok?
We didn’t have the class in the studio though — our yoga class was on one of the upper floors in a beautiful space (next door to a pool). The space itself was large, with high ceilings, bright (there were huge windows), and there was a large patio /​veranda where you could get some fresh air after class.
I am not sure what is normally held in this room (it could just be a space that is available for rentals) but it really set the tone for a great workout!

We arrived there around 11p.m. — the place was empty, the party would start about midnight — somebody said. We took 1^st and 2^nd numbers at coat check and went to the bar to wait for the party. I can’t call the selection of drinks superior but there is something to choose from. The waiters were busy all the time, we had to go to the bar every time we wanted a new drink.
The music was current pop which is nice. Good place to watch people.

Fantastic club, rooftop and NYC vibe for tourists, out of town guests and clients wanting to experience NYC nightlife and fantastic views of the city. Crowded, clubby and can get very Euro but a fun spot to take out of town guests.
When I first moved to the city — I loved it here for the views and cool NYC trendy club feel– which is why out of Towners/​tourists from other states and countries love it here — very NYC chic and fun.
My friend who I brought here had thee time of her life on a Saturday night. Amazing ambiance, music, fab views … She couldn’t stop smiling. The fun, people, dancing and NYC vibe, European people she met, was a highlight of her trip …
I’m not into the meatpacking scene and crowds now having lived here a while but the music, dancing, NYC vibe is v fun…
And the martini served with fab NYC club showmanship was thee best chilled martini I ever had.
Recommend as a place to bring friends and clients from out of town.

The manager, Chris, is incredibly rude. This property cannot decide if it wants to be a nightclub or a hotel.
In any case, if you’re not a hot young girl prepare to be accosted by doormen and treated poorly. You are clearly NOT the priority for the staff.
I have stayed here a couple of times in NYC, but cannot recommend this place. I’ll be heading elsewhere next time.

Great location, great views but the bar on the top floor was playing music so loud until 330 am. We could hear a few stories down unfortunately and made it hard to sleep. Other than that it was a cute place with nice bathrooms and amenities. Close to Chelsea Market, the Highline and the Whitney

Say what you will about the Gansevoort Rooftop, the music is bangin’. The selection is on point, with the right amount of old school and new stuff, and the transitions between songs is seamless. Too often these days, you find DJs who play way too much EDM, and not much else, or a DJ who can’t transition between songs and tries to make up for it by doing some janky record scratching. Not here, though. The music is quality, and that really makes a huge difference in my opinion. Am I going to give this place more than 3 stars though? Nah, don’t even trip. I’ll agree with the overall rating.
Drinks are overpriced. Like really overpriced. $ 15 for well drinks, $ 10+ for beer bottles. I didn’t even bother trying to order something nicer, because I could only imagine how much that would be. I suggest pre-​gaming elsewhere, and getting maybe 1 – 2 drinks here, if even that many. They’re a money-​making machine and they won’t apologize for it, which is fine. Also, most recently, the bartenders here was wearing nothing but lingerie. I don’t know if it was because it was Halloween, but really, there’s just really a lack of creativity there in the costume department. I mean, if you got it, flaunt it, but you’re really not leaving much to the imagination. I realize sex sells, but c’mon. Nonetheless, they were actually pretty attentive all night, even as it got crowded, so who am I to judge?
Anyways, this place is for those once-​a-​year type deals where you just want to dance the night away. Once a year might actually be one visit too many, but it is what it is. The rooftop views are pretty decent, the crowds aren’t absolutely shoulder-​to-​shoulder, and if you’ve had enough to drink, it can actually be a pretty fun time. Not my scene at all, but in the realm of the clubs in Meatpacking, the Gansevoort is weirdly one of the better choices you can make in this area.

The meatpacking district is the epitome of New York City chic. The Gansevoort is the place to be seen but not actually to stay. Beautiful cars and glamorous people arrive and park their cars in front of the hotel. Not exactly sure where they go afterwards. Maybe they’ve stayed here before and discovered it was overrated. Who knows. But I definitely concur if that is truly their sentiment.
First Impressions:
The hotel is decent. The lobby is pretty nice. Front desk staff and valet attendants are very friendly. Check in was very quick and easy. We stayed on the 8^th floor which offered a great view of the city streets and of my favorite hotel, The Standard High Line. We received two free bottles of wine from the staff for my birthday, which was a nice touch!
The Room:
Honestly, not what I expected. Furniture looked old and outdated. The room was very small and there wasn’t a lot of space to walk around. The room was stocked with tons of goodies (for a price, of course) and they provided plenty of free L’Occitane toiletries, which I made sure to take on my last day. Loved the large window and motorized curtains!
The Rooftop:
Was first told my front desk staff it was closed, then chased down once we stepped outside to be informed it wasn’t. Weird.
It was a Sunday evening, so it wasn’t crowded. Very, very spacious and plenty of seating. Music sounded pretty good too. Drinks were well prepared and all around good views of Manhattan and Hoboken. Crowd wasn’t too pretentious. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. There were plenty of couples here schmoozing. I’d love to come back to the rooftop in the summertime during the day.
Overall:
It was an interesting experience. As stated before, hotel is kind of overrated IMO. Next time I’ll try The Chester, people watch, and just call it a day. I was comfortable, but not worth a second stay. Kind of a one and done. Nothing really stuck out to me or made the stay memorable.

Come during the day and you’ll have no problem getting in. We literally walked through the door, up the elevator to the rooftop bar without getting stopped once. The drinks are weak and expensive, typical MePa way. The rooftop’s become a less desirable place to party nowadays, what with Boom Boom and Ph-​D within a stone’s throw away. However, if you’re looking for a more laidback place where you can actually sit without dropping thousands for a table, this is your place to go. The crowd is mostly Euros, tourists, and finance guys in ridiculous purple shorts. The view is NOT that great, compared to other rooftops in the city. However, if you come at night, you get to marvel at all the «pretty lights». Hard to believe that this is in the same location as Provocateur, which is one of the most pretentious places I’ve ever been to.

Made it to this place after eating (and drinking) an unlimited brunch at another place in the W village. I was a little apprehensive and I am not a big fan of the meatpacking district because I am mot in my early 20’s anymore. Actually, we came to this place because another rooftop bar was PACKED and the establishment was not allowing people on the roof so the bouncer suggested this place.
We arrived here around 3pm on a Saturday afternoon and the place was lively but not super crowded. The first shift of bartenders were great; they served my friend and Me pretty fast and suggested random drinks on the menu. The second shift bartenders were not as friendly maybe because it was getting late in the afternoon and more people were arriving. This may be my issue but I really cannot stand when I first speak to someone (at this place, the bartender) and he/​she is wearing sunglasses. At least lift up the specs, acknowledge me, put them back down and take the order. I admit that this could have been due to the time as the sun was setting and the bar faces west. Like I said this could be my thing.
The views of the Hudson and Jersey are wonderful (especially on a beautiful day); however, the drinks are a little pricey. But, that is the point of treating yo’self. So, I would come to this place one in a while because I could not handle the large crowds that descend upon this area.
Note: smokers, you can smoke on the roof in the other part of the roof that faces south east.

Die Dachterrasse des «The Standard» in Chelsea, New York, ist ja inzwischen fast ausschließlich von Partyvolk belegt und steht Otto-​Normalverbraucher kaum mehr zur Verfügung.
Das ärgert uns nur kurz, denn wir haben eine Alternative: wir entern das «Hotel Gansevoort», einen nüchternen, relativ niedrigen Quader im Meatpacking District im hippen Chelsea, und liften auf die Dachterrasse. Auch wenn das Hotel für New Yorker Verhältnisse als eher niedrig zu bezeichnen ist, reicht ein ungefähr 13. Stock durchaus aus, um einen traumhaften Panoramablick über den Hudson bis nach New Jersey zu genießen oder das quirlige Treiben auf den Kopfsteinpflasterstraßen des «Meatpacking Districts» zu Füßen zu beobachten.
Nachdem wir das Rundum-​Panorama ausgiebig genossen haben (als Nicht Hotelgäste wohlgemerkt), lassen wir uns tief in die hellen weichen Polster fallen und studieren die Cocktailkarte. Anfangs zögern wir, denn erfahrungsgemäß sind Cocktails im Ausland meist eine fade Angelegenheit. Aber der Wein ist fast noch teurer als ein Cocktail und so lassen wir uns auf das Abenteuer ein. Lohnt sich, denn umgehend ordern wir einen zweiten — man muss die Feste halt feiern wie sie fallen! Empfehlenswert leckere Cocktails auf dieser Dachterrasse.
Hotelgäste haben darüber hinaus Zutritt zur «Plunge Bar», einem überschaubaren Pool neben der Cocktail-​Lounge. Mehr was zum Plantschen denn zum Schwimmen.
Langsam sinkt die Sonne hinter den Häusern von New Jersey runter, der Himmel verfärbt sich in der gesamten Palette Rot– und Orangetönen, an den Hausfassaden gehen die Neonreklamen an und der Sound der chilligen Musik lullt uns ein.
Fast ein bisschen schade, dass wir nicht im «Gansevoort» wohnen. Wir müssen leider noch einen Abendspaziergang «nach Hause» machen. Immerhin: es könnte ein weitaus weniger attraktiver Walk sein als einer durch Chelsea!
Wir finden, dass die Dachterrasse des «Gansevoort» eine lohnenswerte Adresse ist, um den vielzitierten «New Yorker Sunset» zu genießen, zumal, wenn der Blick von oben sein soll.
Und ein guter Platz zudem, der Hektik des Millionen-​Molochs für einen Moment den Rücken zu kehren.

Schade. Das Hotel hat alles, was den globalen Nomaden glücklich machen könnte: perfekte Lage mitten im Meatpacking District, einen Steinwurf vom Village und Soho entfernt, gastromäßig mit Pastis und Buddakan ein Paradies, das Design ist modern, aber nicht zu kühl, gedeckte Farben, internationales, oft prominentes Publikum.
Das Ding hat neben dem lieblosen Frühstück allerdings noch einen gewaltigen Haken: es mangelt völlig an Exklusivität. Die berühmte Dachterrasse wird für Nicht-​Hotelgäste geöffnet, der Pool (sollte eigentlich auch nur für Hotelgäste sein) hat eine dermaßen schwache Türpolitik, dass jeder plus fünf Freunde reinkommt. Daraus ergibt sich sowohl am Pool, als auch in der Lounge, eine Menschenmenge, die den gepflegten Sundowner unmöglich macht.
Das Soho-​Haus auf der anderen Straßenseite macht es richtig, deren Pool und Dach bleiben Gästen des Hauses vorbehalten.
Die Dachterrasse des Gansevoort ist bis 4:00 morgens geöffnet, betrunkenes Partyvolk lässt schon mal spaßeshalber den Aufzug in jeder Etage halten.
Ich will ja nicht meckern, aber für den Preis, der dort aufgerufen wird, erwarte ich eine gewisse Exklusivität und will nicht damit rechnen müssen, dass mir betrunkene Jugendliche im Aufzug auf die Füße k*en.
Meine Beschwerde am nächsten Tag wurde natürlich mit bekümmmertem Gesicht aufgenommen, diese Partys seien gerade ein Testlauf, man kann nur hoffen, dass er nicht erfolgreich war. Allerdings steht zu befürchten, dass gerade an den externen Gästen (die unten auf der Straße klaglos lange Schlangen bilden) das meiste Getränke-​Geld verdient wird.
Wir hatten uns das Gansevoort ans Ende unseres NY Aufenthalts gelegt, um den Urlaub perfekt ausklingen zu lassen. Leider hat der Traumaufenthalt in diesem wirklich sehr schönen Haus den oben beschriebenen Haken.

Quand le bar se ferme, descender au sous-​sol pour la boîte de nuit du meme nom.

Das Hotel ist mitten im Meatpacking District — direkt gegenüber des bekannten Lokals «Pastis» gelegen.
Durch die Lobby — in den Aufzug (witzig sind hier die Fernseher mit kurzen Clips an den Wänden) — in das oberste Stockwerk — und schon ist man in einer klasse Rooftop-​Bar mit Ausblick: den Hudson auf der einen Seite — das ESB auf der anderen Seite.
Die Getränkekarte geht vom üblichen Szenewasser aus Fidschi, über Bier und Wein, bis hin zu Cocktails.
Preislich??? New York eben :-) Aber dennoch bezahlbar.
Zwei Terrassen (die vordere an den Aufzügen ist überdacht — auf der hinteren kann im Freien geraucht werden) bieten sehr schöné Ausblicke über Downtown NY. In den frühen Abendstunden für Fotografen sehr geeignet.
Abends wird es relativ voll, da sich die Bar sich größter Beliebtheit hinsichtlich «lass-​uns-​noch-​einen-​Drink-​nach-​dem-​Office-​nehmen» erfreut. Ebenso sind kleinere Partys mit abgesperrten Bereichen an der Tagesordnung.
Am Wochenende kann man ab spät. 22:00 Uhr mit sehr langen Wartezeiten vor dem Hotel rechnen.
Für mich eine Bar, wo man auch mittags mal schnell auf eine Tasse Kaffee gehen kann — oder eben am frühen Abend, um ein wenig Party zu erleben.
