Ordered here for lunch based off a recommendation and we were all let down. For some reason on seamless it’s a lot more expensive, so I had pretty high expectations that it wasn’t able to meet. Thought it was half as good as chipotle and my steak bowl had some strange uninvited ingredients like carrots and green beans? Also 12 dollars for guac and chips to share– the guac was really really good but we were disappointed with the stale chips that came in a bag filled a quarter of the way. Feel like it’s not a good place for ordering online but would give it a second chance could’ve been the day or our orders.

Please note, Unilocal removed my prior review. I believe the owners are scared of real criticism. I am re-posting and taking out the word that connotes«people who can’t handle spicy food». I was pondering between 1 or 2 stars — and realize it must be 1. I was told that Guac Star is better than Chipotle… So, I finally ate here for lunch. #totalfail. They have fish, which Chipotle doesn’t have so I chose that for my protein. The ingredients were stale and lackluster… and the fish was overcooked, tasteless, dry and reminded me of a sad, dead catch that sat out too long. I started getting nausea while eating and couldn’t finish my salad bowl. The rice was really bad(dense and hard with frozen vegetables inside), the black beans tasted like they were just taken out of a tin can, the hottest salsa was not that spicy — medium at best, and everything else was just off. Not for my palate, but might be for yours… or the folks next door on Wall St. OH, that makes sense…

Decided to try this place in my neighborhood, where there is little to no Mexican, and I won’t be back. First of all, it’s cold assembly line style burritos, like Chipotle — they have a kitchen in back, but you still can’t get, say, a grilled burrito or an enchilada. So, you have a choice of a cold burrito or a cold bowl of semi-warm rice, lettuce, tomato mix, bland and watery black beans, some water-logged«veggies», and ice-cold grated American style cheese, not fresh Mexican style cheese, but like the kind you see in plastic bags in the grocery store. The rice was so-so, the«spicy» sauce was about two notches below a medium-level sauce. Good for a few bites because I was starving, but most of it got tossed.

I was for dinner there. Prices are high for amount of food. The quality in some like fish tacos are good. The service was ok not that great.

I’m giving 5 stars to the Brisket!!! it will make you propose to a taco! I ordered brisket soft tacos and my oh my! Fidi has its offerings of brisket in certain places but NONE compare or are as good as this, not even from a bbq place. Ok that’s all. Give them a visit!

Don’t compare this to Chipotle. I’m not saying it’s better or worse, just different. This has more of an authentic taste. Their pico de gallo is always on point. Ingredients are fresh and their brisket is very tasteful. Always a treat to eat here.

Worse tacos I ever had so far… Ordered the skirt steak tacos with soft tortilla shells. It literally tear apart when I gently pick them up, steakswere soo dry and hard. Never again. My bf makes better tacos than this place.

This place is not delicious… It tastes like a less saltier version of chipotle. The rice was a bit too dense and the meat had to be chewed multiple times. They didn’t give enough cheese or of the spicy salsa that I love. I’m looking for new alternatives of chipotle due to a recent scare on my belly but no luck yet. Sadly I won’t be coming back…

A pretty good Mexican Joint! Better then Qdoba and Chipotle in my opinion. Pricing and portions are better too. My favorite dish is the brisket rice bowl. Love the flavors and perfect amount of spice. I never tried the guac honestly; but you do have to pay extra for it. Seating is limited as an FYI and is connected to two other businesses. I would come here more for Lunch not dinner.

Oh my goodness, stumbled across this Mexican gem by accident and glad that I did. I got a pork burrito bowl that test like heaven, I think I might trade my love for Chipotle in for them. They have very limited seating luckily it’s a nice day so we sat outside, but I literally scrapped the bottom of the bowl because I didn’t want to be finished. The guacamole was amazing don’t feel like they should charge extra especially since the name of the place is Guac Star but whatever it was good and I’ll definitely will be back!!!

I think New Yorkers are especially tough on their reviews for restaurants, of course because there is sooo much fantastic stuff in the city. Nothing wrong with Guac Star for a quick lunch however. I like that it is an in-and-out place, there is a nice area to sit outside to eat as well. Sure, it’s basically like Chipotle, but their barbacoa is a bit different and it was a nice change. Nothing exceptional about it but I like it nonetheless, and it makes for a much better lunch than those chopped salad places.

Guac star? More like NOSTARS. Do yourself a favor and go to Chipotle because the food here is horrible. Its basically Chipotle but 10x worst. You can either have a burrito bowl or a burrito. They do offer more meat options like fish but I stuck to chicken. The chicken wasn’t horrible, it was slightly tasty. The rice though, was like Chinese fried rice with frozen carrots and peas. How disgusting is that. I don’t go to a Mexican restaurant to have a burrito bowl filled with terrible chinese fried rice, and I do not go to a restaurant to eat frozen vegetables. The salsa was ok, the beans were ok. Everyone else who ate the burritos or burrito bowls weren’t pleased as well. I’m never coming back.

Not the best of meals I had. I ordered on Seamless when their estimated delivery time was 25 minutes. After an hour my order finally showed up. The baja fish tacos were bland and there was no sauce or anything. The cheese«melted» on top was obviously done in a microwave. I’m not sure how things are in the actual restaurant, but their delivery could use some work.

The food here is pretty solid — the meats and rices and beans and vegetables and sauces are all done very well, using quality ingredients, with large portions and affordable prices. What really makes me love GuacStar is the dog-friendly outdoor seating on a quiet breezy side-street near the water.

This place isn’t too bad, it’s almost like chipotle or qdoba. I got the pork burrito bowl with their spiced rice. The pork was definitely flavorful, which was my favorite part. Their spicy sauce isn’t spicy. But overall, it’s quick lunch to get in the area.

Bleughgh. For a place that has the name of Guacstar, I’d expect better flavors than bland, blah watery burritos, with a real skimpy serving of guacamole. Total price of a pork burrito + guacamole? Just north of 11 dollars. The line moves very fast, but you can do better value at Chipotle, which is saying something.

I ordered the mushroom/poblano(vegetarian) tacos and thought that they had a really good flavor. The marinade was very flavorful without drowning the true taste of the main ingredients. Additionally, you can expect to pay less here for 3 tacos than just about anywhere else in FiDi(i.e. Chipotle, Tres Carnes, and even the truck on Wall/Water). The flavor and price alone are 4 star worthy. That means there are a few negatives here to counter that grade, and those are: a.) Taco Sustainability — you will not be able to eat more than ½ of any of these tacos before they fall apart. The truck on Water/Wall double bags it which is pretty essential if you’re going to have a loaded taco, and Guac Star could benefit from this practice… b.) Toppings — I don’t know if I did it wrong, or what, but rice and beans were not included on the taco. It was mushroom/peppers, cheese, lettuce, and a salsa. So, while not NOTHING, you did actually receive less food than you would at the places you might pay a little more — so maybe it evens out. Regardless, I found myself pretty hungry a few hours later, and I have what most would consider to be a small appetite. Final conclusion — spend an extra $ 1 and go to Wall/Water truck for a more filling meal and indestructible tacos.

I’ve only had delivery from Guacstar through Seamless and never had an issue with getting my order quickly. Some of the dishes are amazing and some are terrible. I’m still giving 4 stars because their good dishes are that good. 5 Stars 1) wings — in a spicy and sweet sauce served with a mexican style blue cheese. Very unique and delicious. 2) mexican corn — spicy and a perfect serving size 4 Stars Their chicken chimichanga. It’s a huge amount that can easily feed 3 people. 3 Stars Their guacamole — hard to believe… but true… it’s just ok 2 Stars Their chips… very meh 1 Star Their enchaladas(way too light on the sauce making it almost like a dry burrito)

In a nutshell, if there is a description I can assign Guac Star right now, it’d be «Chipotle Junior» because they basically run on the same concept of the super chain selling almost the same items and exact ingredients. If you’re a Chipotle lover, then you’ll be familiar with the burrito, burrito bowl, tacos assembly line that Guac Star also has, but on a smaller scale. They also offer enchiladas, nachos and quesadillas. The style you choose comes with a filling(chicken, brisket, pork, Portobello, steak or fish) and a pico de gallo sauce(mild, medium, spicy). Guacamole and chips are extra. Bottom line —- I ordered the burrito bowl, which is actually served in a bowl! not like the oval shaped dish at Chipotle. I had the white rice & beans with chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, medium sauce and sour cream. I felt they were a bit stingy on the cheese, but in terms of food quality, the bowl was good. I’m a huge fan of the cilantro rice at Chipotle so nothing could substitute for that either. The pricing is a bit cheaper at Guac Star than at Chipotle’s and the burrito bowl portion size was bigger than it initially looks. There’s also outdoor seating for anyone wanting to enjoy a nice day as well.

I had a fantastic salad here on a cold January day, with all the toppings. Everything was delicious, and the salad was huge so I didn’t mind paying $ 10. The guac was really fantastic; I was honestly surprised it was so good. Unfortunately it’s a small space and every time someone came in we were blasted with cold air, so it was a pretty miserable lunch, but not the food’s fault! I’ll probably get take-out when the weather’s warmer and I can enjoy it sitting by the east river and soaking up some sun. UPDATE: the grilled corn is a little amazing. On par with Café Habana. GETIT!
