There is (however) a wine shop at 702 St Nicholas, Unity Liquor on Unilocal (the address is wrong)

Finally, a safe haven where I can buy my Jesus juice in peace! No more rude pick up lines from other patrons and dusty wine bottles! The staff is pretty nice and offered to help me make my selections and they also took my information about my purchase for future references. I thought that was pretty neat. My only negative is that the wine is arranged by country and not variety. I’m not sure if this is ignorance on my part but it makes it pretty challenging to pick up my favorite and go.

A classy wine stop with very friendly staff. They cycle the selection of the wine every month so if you find a wine you like make sure to write it down and remember what it is. This is the only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars. I found some excellent wine there but came back the next month and it was gone. They didn’t know when they would get it back as they like to try new things and keep it fresh. However I did find a now wine that I loved. I stocked up on it this time!
The store is clean, well lit and if your in the area a great place to pick up a bottle or experiment with a new wine.

I love the art work it make me smile every time I walk by. I have lived here for almost 3 years now and its (in my personal opinion) one of few bright spots in the area.
My only blast would be the women working when i came in to buy a re-​corker. She with a very rude attitude said «you can re-​cork your own wine, we don’t sale those»
really? I thought a wine gallery would sale things of that nature! Over all the staff is great and the owner is very proactive.

I’m getting frustrated with Harlem Wine Gallery! At least three times now I’ve gone there during open hours, the sign on their door says «Open,» I try the door aaaand it’s locked. No note, no sign, no reason as to why everything implies it’s open except the locked door.
As much as I like the appeal of having a wine gallery in the neighborhood, I hate the rejection (and wasted time) of a locked door and recently have been bypassing it entirely and walking a few more blocks to the liquor store that is always open and has a reliable collection.
I’m particularly bummed because I was so excited about HWG but I’m not sure if they’re as excited to be around.

I love this place. The people are SO NICE — the place looks great — the artwork is cool — the prices are good and the wine is YUM YUM.
Patronize them and you will have a happy evening. Unless you drink wine for breakfast, in which case, you should avoid this shop because you will not be able to fight the temptation.

Yay! We just moved back to Harlem and were in the hunt for good, fairly priced wine. Well, it’s here! Love the space, the wine selection, the art (fabulous!). So excited to have you in the neighborhood!

The Harlem Wine Gallery is a small wine shop that also serves as an art gallery for the works of local artists. And like the wine in this shop, the art is also for sale. Barely opened a week, and located on St. Nicholas Avenue @ 148^th St. in the Sugar Hill/​Hamilton Heights section of Harlem, I stopped by today during one of their 4pm — 9pm wine tastings to take a look inside.
HWG sells primarily European wines from France, Italy, Spain, Germany, and so on. They however, do have a limited selection of South American wines on hand, as well. In addition they offer a selection of recommended wines that can be paired specifically with meat, poultry, or seafood, as well as a selection of sweet dessert wines. Also, there is another small section devoted to wines under $ 11. However, most of the bottles appear to be in the $ 15 to $ 20 range, but that could change as times goes on. So as of now, this would probably not be the place to go if you’re just looking for a weeknight bottle of wine at a bargain price. But then again, in time that could change.
HWG is a beautiful bright and airy shop that stands out in contrast to most of the other small stores in the area. And it is obvious that the owners paid much attention to the aesthetics and details that went into this place. All the walls are adorned with art work prominently displayed as you walk through the shop from front to back, and all the wines are comfortably resting in wine racks strategically placed on the floor. The selection in this small shop is not what I would necessarily call broad, but I would be willing to wager that the quality of the wine inside of one their bottles would be considerably better than what you would find in other neighborhood wine establishments.
