Whether you have lived in Manhattan all your life or are just moving here TOSH MARKS is THE Real Estate Agent you want. I met Tosh when I was looking for my own studio in the Upper East Side as a Graduate Student and Intern at BIMC. We all know how hard it is to lease our own place in the city that is A. Affordable, B. not infested or about to collapse, and C. has closets. Trying to do this as a Graduate Student only makes the stress factor rise 10 fold. BUT, this is where Tosh comes in. He not only made it happen for me, he was kind, honest, trust-​worthy and professional throughout the whole process. He also has the keys to some of the best, cleanest, safest, and reasonably priced apartments in the city. He was always available to get in contact with and even my parents who live in Maine fell in love with Tosh through the whole application process. I have already given his name to friends who are thinking of moving in the near future and I strongly suggest anyone who is about to relocate go through Mr. Marks. I agree with Alex H.: — saying Tosh is the best is an understatement. Save time and energy and contact Tosh!

I cant believe she even charges a fee. She should be paying me for dealing with her.
Everyone knows real estate rentals is a shady business, especially in NYC. I too was once an agent in my day. Grace embodies what it means to be unprofessional. I honestly don’t know how she is eating at night the way she conducts her business. I also don’t know why she chose a career in sales when shes is an obvious introvert with the people skills of Bigfoot (have you ever spoken to Bigfoot? exactly!)
My roommates and I gave her a deposit and out credit check fees. It took a week and half for her to tell us that the landlord would be accepting stronger candidates in our place. When I was in the business the process took a day maybe 48 hrs if you are extremely busy. She never even called to tell us about the delay and offer us some kind words. We had to contact her and she would always so «tomorrow i will meet with landlord». Tomorrow turned into tomorrow which turned into tomorrow if you see where I’m getting at. I’m not even upset about not getting the place (it would’ve been nice tho…). The service was sub par and a waste of time.
Grace offered to show us more places. We declined and said we want to pick up our forms (bank statements, tax returns, photo id copies, etc) and our money and keep it moving. We agree on a time and place only to find that she leaves the money at her 28^th street office but holds onto our forms and asks us to meet her at a dunkin donuts in LES because she wants to show us more apartments… AFTER we told her we wouldn’t be working with her anymore. To have what is essentially a stranger running around the city with your vital life details against your will isn’t a good feeling.
Moral of the story is don’t put money in her pockets. There is no shortage of agents in this city.

I agree. These guys suck.
After dealing with these guys, I’ve issued fraud alerts to my credit agencies just to be on the safe side… if you value your money and personal peace of mind STAY AWAY!!!

Was just trying to set up an appt to see an apt with this Tosh who advertised it on CL. The guy cuts me off before I finish asking a few basic questions about the place, promises to call me back and then never does. This doesn’t reflect well on him but fortunately there are 24, 999 other brokers in NYC so you can use someone else. I will.

I had a great experience working with Tosh Marks. I met with many relaters and they all wasted my time either showing me apartments out of my price range or that were completely unlivable. I was becoming very discouraged and started considering a studio or even commuting from Jersey when a friend gave me Tosh’s number. He only showed me places that met my requirements and I fell in love with the first place he showed me, so much so that after I viewed a few more we hopped in a cab to the office and I signed then and there.
He was always reachable through the credit history process and really advocated for me to get the apartment even though I needed a guarantor. He even met with me one day all the way downtown just to let me into the place to take measurements. And now I’m sitting in my beautiful one bedroom apartment and couldn’t be happier.

When preparing for my move to New York City, I called a few friends to ask if they knew of or had a great broker that they could refer. After chatting with a few, I meet with Tosh Marks while in NYC on business, months before making the move.
Not only did he listen, seek to understand, and provide immediate value to the situation, he’s as friendly and as giving as they come.
Despite the challenges that arose throughout the leasing process, Tosh had an answer and a solution to them all and made our entire move in process extremely smooth. We are extremely happy with our apartment, the arrangements he worked out on our behalf, and will be working with Tosh again the next time we move.

I ONLYYYY have good things to say about Tosh Marks!!! I found him on Craigslist and he was SUPER prompt in getting back to me. I was in desperate need of finding a reasonable apartment and QUICKLY and he was the PERFECT man for the job! He met up with me at MY convenience and was always on time. He at no point tried to push anything on me… which is DEFINITELY not the norm with a realtor as most people know… he was completely honest and TOTALLY on my side! I found a superb little studio on the upper east and all I can say is that I’m SUPER greatful to have found someone so helpful! I will DEFINITELY be using his services in the future if/​when I decide to move! LOVE YA TOSH!!!

I’ve lived in New York for 6 years, lived in two different boroughs and had 4 different apartments. Let’s just say I’ve seen a few things.
To say Tosh Marks is the best out there is an understatement. Not only did he show my friend T and I a wider variety of places than anyone else — he consistently had an upbeat attitude throughout, did a fair amount of smoothing over on details that in other hands would’ve cost us our pad, and also made the process more enjoyable than any other broker I’ve ever dealt with.
Did I mention he found us an unbelievable steal of an apartment in an area we thought was out of our price range? Ahh yes, to the victor go the spoils, and to the broker go the kudos. Hats off to you Mr. Marks — you are truly the class act exception in an otherwise dirty business. Highly recommended as the first and only stop needed to anyone looking for an apartment in this crazy city of ours.

Adam Diamond of Hart Diamond agreed that he would hold onto my rent and security checks (made out to Hart Diamond) until everything was finalized with the lease, and not release it to the landlord until that occurred. The lease was never finalized, the landlord now tells me that he won’t accept the lease, and Adam tells me that if I want my rent and security deposit back, I’ll have to take it up with the landlord, who he apparently released the money to without my permission. I’ll keep Unilocal updated regarding whether I ever get my money back.

If I could give ZERO stars, I would. Absolute bait and switch. They also claimed to show me their «exclusive» apartments… which Citi-​Habitats showed me the same afternoon. Stay away.

Jesse B took me to several apartments in the E. Village and L.E.S, and we ultimately found a great place on Stanton Street. She made the entire process very easy and her professionalism was a breath of fresh air after dealing with the the no-​shows and shitty apartments that you find on craigslist.

I heart Tosh Marks. If you work here, only work with him. Finding my apartment was a breeze.
Short version of Tosh’s awesomeness: I came home from work a week or two ago and he was sitting on the stoop of my building waiting for new potential tenants to show them around. He recognized me, asked me in detail about my life and how I like the unit, and we talked for a good five minutes just shooting the shit before the two maybe-​now-​my-​neighbors arrived. He’s an awesome guy and I will call him first whenever I next move (but I love my place so hopefully that’s not for a long while!)
Long version: I responded to an ad on Craigslist and met with Amanda (also super sweet) at the actual building. I walked around and said «I want it». She called Tosh (her supervisor? manager?) to get the ball rolling, and I dealt with him throughout the rest of the process.
Tosh was responsive, accomodating, and totally down to earth. He told me and my sister/​roommate the very first time we met him to ask lots of questions and he’d answer honestly; if the answer was «I don’t know», he’d find out. My sister is a student so our mom is her out-​of-​state guarantor, and he dealt with her professionally and quickly. I seriously will recommend him to anyone.

My roommate and I had just emerged from a HELLISH experience with «The Broadway Group» and were weary of dealing with another broker. However, Tosh from Hart Diamond was a PLEASURE to deal with. He showed us several places that were exactly what we were looking for, and made the application process a breeze. Not only was he in constant contact, but he did all this with a pleasant demeanor and a smile. I would recommend dealing with him to anyone who has had a bad experience or is trying to avoid one all together.

I had the bad fortune of getting to know these guys too well. In all fairness the guy who showed me an apt was cool, but then he went on vacation and left his boss Adam Diamond to close the deal. All of my paperwork was in order and I was under the impression the lease would start on the first of the month, but at the 11^th hr Mr. Diamond told me if I wanted the place I would have to move in and start paying immediately. He said there was another applicant with a stronger application that was willing to move in, but i had given him a $ 500 deposit that was supposed to take the apt off the market. GettIng this deposit back from him, along with the copies of my credit report wasn’t easy, and it wasnt until I threatened to call REBNY (real estate brokers of ny) that he finally complied. I asked how he knew so many details about this other applicant and he was too dumb and slow to cover up his lie. He said he had a good relationship with the landlord and if I was willing to pay 6 months rent up front, the place was mine. Otherwise i was sheeeet out o luck. Guy was totally arrogant and unprofessional. If u google his name and company you will find tons of other negative feedback on this lying prick. To add insult to injury I saw the apt back up on craigslist after it had supposedly been taken for $ 200 less then what I was told the rent was! When I called another realtor who was showing it, she told me that had been the asking price since the list started. Shady bizness adam diamond. Shady mofo, I hope to bump into u again sometime. Do yourself a favor and stay away from Hart Diamond at all costs!
