If you want go to Haru, this is the best one of the three in the city. Servoce is fantastic, the staff is friendly, and the food is impeccably delicious. If you go early in the evening, you can walk in without reservations.

Solid sushi place. The atmosphere is fine, but don’t expect anything super cool. I think they are little overpriced for what they are, but I still left the place having enjoyed my food.

Absolutely fantastic. The sushi(both traditional and specialty) as well as the nigiri was incredibly well made. Very fresh and tasty. The pricing was very fair and the portions good. Service was very attentive as well.

I came here with my boyfriend for lunch one day because it was very nice out and they had out door seating. The service was very slow. We had to keep going inside to grab the waiters if we wanted to order something or to request the bill. My spicy tuna roll was very fishy tasting, which was surprising as typically it’s hard to get this roll wrong! My boyfriends was fine. Overall, I definitely would not recommend or go back here. We both felt a bit funky after eating the food.

Came here for lunch. I love the large variety of sushi offered, and given the number of people in our party we were able to try a bunch of different types. However, that being said, I found the sushi to be pretty average especially given the price per roll.

Haru is a rather generic sushi place. The sashimi platter was decent quality. The rolls I got(yellowtail jalepeno roll and spicy crunchy salmon) were both solid. Nothing we ordered was worth writing home about(but apparently they’re worth writing on Unilocal about!). The happy hour is great, very cheap deals.

Sushi used to be pretty good here a while ago but has gone downhill over the last couple of years. Usually you only see people here for the drinks now. Kind of sad because I used to come here regularly for sushi.

Came here for happy hour like I do downtown almost every week. Service was attentive and food was decent as usual. Closed out my bill after 3 drinks and asked for another. The waitress asked if I should have a third… and questioned my judgement. I found this very offensive. Mind you I’m not a small girl by any means and these aren’t vodkas over ice. I am also completely cohesive and am not even acting like I have been drinking. Not one thing in my post is misspelled. Fine if you want me to spend my money elsewhere and find a new spot for happy hour by all means I will! Also mind you I had three drinks over the course of three hours. Totally unacceptable behavior by staff.

I visited Haru after hearing about their amazing birthday promotion(a $ 20 gift certificate when you sign up with their loyalty program online) It is a very generous promotion, which gets you a free entrée, or a couple of happy hour specials. I always enjoy a good deal and appreciate establishments that offer them. I went around 5pm during happy hour and they had some pretty nice specials going on for both drink and food. The Charsiu buns are probably the best deal on the menu. 2 buns for $ 6. We also ordered the king crab dumplings as an appetizer, which were nice(not happy hour special). For entrees, my boyfriend and I ordered«The Sumo» sushi entrée and the lobster roll. Unfortunately, the sushi was overall disappointing. The rice was very hard as well as the lobster meat that they use. If I returned, I probably would not order sushi again. Service was good, orders were taken in a timely manner, water glasses were constantly refilled, finished plates were taken out of the way, however some of the language used at the table was unusual. Instead of «are you ready to order» or «may I take your order» or somewhere along those lines our server said«Ok! I am ready to take your order». Also at the end of the meal, instead of «would you like anything else for the table?» A different server than the first asked us «Do you want more food or are you done?» I’m not saying what was said by either is bad or offensive, both interactions just struck me as odd in the moment. The restaurant is set up beautifully, with beautiful seating, it makes for a great environment for a date or business meeting.

This review is for Haru’s Restaurant week menu. First Course: — Fish tacos: Good, very similar to what I’ve eaten elsewhere. — Sashimi cerviche: Needs some vinegar! Second Course: — Spider Roll: this soft shell crab wasn’t fresh as it’s not in season, but was at least ½ a crab which is a log of meat compared to what they’ll give you at other places! Was lacking in the crunch, but overall good. — Gramercy Park Roll: My oh my was this roll beautiful! Colorful like a rainbow :) Tasted good too. When they gave us the receipt, the suggsted tip amount of 15% based on the overall total, which was actually 18% of the subtotal which you are supposed to tip on(minus tax). Not an issue for us as our bill wasn’t that big, but if you’re with a giant group… beware!

Okay spot for happy hour food. Regular menu is rather pricey though. Spicy tuna and crunchy spicy salmon rolls are $ 5 each during HH and are pretty average. Wasabi fritters were basically fried balls of mashed potatoes with a sauce that tasted only slightly of wasabi. Definitely yummy but couldn’t bring myself to eat more than one. Pork buns were tasty — probably my favorite of the bunch. Yuga roll(spicy salmon with lemon and eel) was alright but not my favorite… a little too lemony. Kushiagi(shrimp and avocado tempura) was meh. I came with a $ 20 off coupon for my birthday but they wouldn’t use it for happy hour, even though I was able to last year at the UWS location :(not sure if I’d come back to use it on the regular dinner menu since it’s quite overpriced for the quality of food you get.

I popped in for lunch with my best friend because we wanted something healthy and without a wait for a table. I thought it wouldn’t be that good because of the 3 stars on Unilocal, but I was pleasantly surprised! They have a pretty affordable lunch special menu with entrees ranging from $ 14 – 20. I got the sushi combo roll(imitation crab, avocado and salmon, tuna) and my friend got the vegetarian roll. The sushi itself wasn’t the best I’ve had – not bad but not great. It definitely satisfies a sushi craving but the quality isn’t the highest if you’re a sashimi snob. However the ambience and the very friendly staff made up for it. The waiters and busboys were very attentive and went out of their way to help us with whatever we needed. Overall, really enjoyed this sushi lunch date!

Went in at 9.45pm on a Sunday to order to go. The young lady that was taking my order didn’t know what Nori(seaweed) was, therefore didn’t really know how the roll I was inquiring about was composed. After ordering one roll and one soup, she tells me that it will be 10 minutes. I wait at the door. 20 minutes past. I asked her if she thought it was normal to have to wait 20 minutes having ordered just a roll and a soup, while having the restaurant 2⁄3 empty. Then she goes to the counter, then she goes to the back, and she immediately remerges holding my bag of food. I just cross the street to my hotel, and once I get into my room I see the mess of my roll.(see the picture for yourself). Mind that the girl didn’t even pretend to give an explanation for the matter. Not good.

Food was OK. The waiter told me that all of the soy sauce was low sodium. There is nothing special about Haru but it is a nice place to get OK sushi.

*** Poor service, Extremely long wait, Do not recommend *** I can’t remember the last time I had such a horrible experience at a restaurant. First, I don’t recommend the scorpion punch bowl; it’s 80% ice cubes and 20% alcohol. Although it tasted okay, it wasn’t strong at all. I ordered a sashimi ceviche, because they were out of the lobster mango ceviche; it wasn’t anything that special. But, what really bothered me was the HOUR wait we had to deal with before we got our main course. Those who ordered appetizers got their food within ten minutes of ordering and then there was an hour gap before everything else was served. We were told the chef was backed up with orders; however, we made a reservation so it should have been expected that there would be a large group arriving. Although our waiter and the manager offered a discount on appetizers(which I appreciated the gesture), it doesn’t make up for the poor restaurant experience. I honestly would not come back here.

THISREVIEWISFORDELIVERYSERVICE You guys really need to address your delivery guys correctly. Super nasty on the phone when they are calling in stating that they are in the lobby. Expect to you come down and get it. On top they expect to be tipped accordingly. Don’t think so.

What the heck happened to this place? Went years ago and it was good. The sushi this time around was not fresh at all and tasted pretty terrible. Sushi platter– very small portion and a crazy amount of the blah shredded white radish! I went with one of their most popular special rolls for $ 17 and it tasted terrible. Worst sushi I might have ever have had.

Came here for Happy Hour where they have a lot of different dishes to snack on at the bar or small side tables only. My friend and I went overboard and ordered a lot. Overall it’s a good HH, friendly service and great location near Union Square. I like that there are a lot of options to mix and match and try different things. Our favorites: — shishito peppers: this was a big plate of grilled peppers, not spicy but good salt flavor. They were charred nicely with bits of black burnt chars. — short rib buns: two to a plate and they were big buns. Lots of meat in a sweet hoisin sauce & carrots — filet mignon yakitori: again, big portions of meat(two sticks/plate) — spicy tuna and crunchy salmon rolls: not the best I’ve had but good enough for HH Pass on these: — lobster gyoza: There were 6 to a plate, lots of lobster in each piece but it was not fresh. The smell and taste was just too fishy. — Spicy garlic wings: 6 to a plate I think and they were big pieces but my friend did not enjoy them.

Great service, terrible food. I’m not a sushi or food snob by any means. Honestly, I’m pretty happy with most sushi joints because it all tastes basically the same(unless you’re going really upscale). I was terribly disappointed by the quality of the fish here. It was chewy and tasted flavorless. Salmon is my favorite because of its buttery texture but the salmon here tasted like it had gristle. Either the fish was of inferior quality or their sushi chef needs to up their slicing skills because raw fish should never be that chewy. Surprisingly half of my party didn’t order raw fish and they seemed happy with their choices. Perhaps it’s better to go with cooked food here. Yea, at about $ 17 for a «special roll»(are you smoking crack?) maybe you should just order a cooked entrée. The only reason for the extra star is that our server was attentive and kind.

I stumbled in randomly while waiting to meet up with some friends and I was very pleased with the Happy Hour deals. I sat at the bar and was taken care of promptly, there was no one else in the restaurant though, so it made sense. I started off with a green tea margarita and the lobster gyoza. The margarita was delicious, and actually tasted like green tea, not strongly, but just enough. The gyoza were yummy, and perfectly cooked, crisp and soft at the same time. I scarfed them down quickly and actually got another order of them. Since my food was coming so quickly I still had a bunch of time to kill, so after I finished my margarita I ordered the scorpion bowl. This sucker was large, and was actually recommended for four people to share. The bartender asked me three times if I was sure that I wanted to order it, this just made me more sure that I needed it. I actually preferred this to the margarita, you could barely taste the alcohol, but by the time I had finished half of it I could definitely FEEL the alcohol. I was consuming so much alcohol that I knew I needed more than just a few gyoza in my stomach. I ordered the spicy tuna and the crunchy spicy salmon roll. They weren’t as good as the gyoza, but were perfectly fine for my tipsy self. I might check it out again for dinner, it had a really nice vibe that would be great for a date.
