Vasili and Costa and genuinely polite and they know meat! They will help you pick the best pieces for your recipe! Conveniently located under the N train station at the Ditmars terminal. Support small new businesses!

I passed by this place on whim and love it when you discover gems. I concur with previous reviews and endorse this neighborhood place. They get their meats fresh everyday from the Bronx and farms from Upstate NY. It’s fresh, hands down the best meat I cooked, and lives up to their billing. I recommend their lamb souvlaki, bratwursts, and chicken. Can’t wait to try their other meats.

My go-to butcher! I’ve gotten their marinated lamb, pork, and chicken souvlaki, pork shoulder, chicken wings, and rib-eyes. Always delicious, fresh, and the people there are just the best.

I was introduced to House of Prime Meats while volunteering my time grilling for a neighborhood festival. I am pretty critical of everything that i grill or bbq and the chicken kebabs that we served were without question the tastiest and juiciest that i have everhad. These were prepared with thick chunks of thigh meat and were beautifully seasoned, unlike most of the skinny breast meat kebabs i refuse to get at other butchers in the area. The two gentlemen that run the place are genuinely nice guys. That helpful personality goes a long way in a rapidly changing Astoria. Bottom line– writing this review based on chicken kebabs– can’t to experience more of their products.

TLDR; Ridiculously clean, no smell, affordable, and great owner :) _________________ I have nothing but LOVE for this place. My absolute biggest thing about this butcher shop is how ABSOLUTELY, SPOTLESSLY, CLEAN it is. It is so clean; from the minimalist walls to the white counter top, to the spotless glass, and the bright, unforgiving lights, you cannot see a single smidgen of filth that you’d normally see at any other butcher shop in Astoria. Another HUGE deal to me is how there’s practically no smell. I’ve been to ALL the butcher shops in the Ditmars area and let me tell you, these other places hang sausages from the ceiling which gives the place a nauseatingly, pungent odor that sticks to your clothes long after you leave. House of Prime Meat? No smell here. All the meats are encased behind sealed glass, including the sausages out for display in the front. I’m so happy to find a place that doesn’t smell like carnage and stinking meat and I hope they continue their clean practices in the future. Now onto the meat of the review.(Heh. Puns.) Everything is very well-priced. We always get our beef from here because of the freshness, quality, and affordability. Everything here is better priced than the dinky Key Food next door and the Korean market further down. The owner(who’s name I believe is Costas), is very friendly and personable, and cuts the meat for you by hand on a cutting block, then wraps it up in film, paper, then a plastic bag.(I don’t believe there is a slicer here if you want paper-thin slices of meat. We once wanted super thin cuts for making gyudon and asked to have it sliced, but the owner did it by hand. Not paper-thin, but close and it was still delicious.) I will never go to any other place to buy meat again!

The meat looks delicious and the butcher was very helpful. They also make their own sausage and have free range chickens. Can’t wait to try tonight, will report back!
