John Fluevog

Arrived today as they opened — despite being a busy sale day — the staff were incredibly attentive and quick to help. We bought two pairs of great shoes and I recommend this store to anyone :)

Strangely enough I found out about John Fluevog’s through my waiter at The Modern. He thought that based on the way my husband and I were dressed, it was our style. I thought it sounded crazy, but we were in the area, so I decided to stop in and see what he was talking about. I’m glad we did because he was completely right! The styles here could best be described as classic with a little twist of something different.
When I walked in, I saw a pair of black and burgundy Victorian style lace up leather boots with a pointed toe that were exactly what I’d been looking for. It was a few days before New Year’s so they were also on sale (down from around $ 500 to a little over $ 300). That’s still a lot of money to me, but I consider boots an investment. A good pair can last ten years or more! I decided to try them on figuring that they would be too narrow and I would stop thinking about them. Fortunately for me, but unfortunately for my wallet, they fit perfectly and were super comfortable! This is only the second pair of shoes with a pointed toe that I have ever found comfortable in my life!
The salesman was incredibly helpful and spent a lot of time adjusting the laces of the boot to make sure they were comfortable for me. My husband had fallen in love with a shiny green pair of dress shoes that looked like a Japanese beetle. He wasn’t going to try them on because it’s usually more than we spend on shoes, but seeing that I tried some on, he went for it. He also rarely finds things that catch his eye, so I thought he should go for it. They were out of his size, but he tried on ones in another color and they managed to locate a pair in the size and color he wanted at another store and shipped it to us very quickly. They were on sale as well!
The unique styles here can’t be beat. The quality of the shoes seems to be good, and the customer service is excellent. They are super helpful without being pushy or making you feel pressured. My husband was given some tips for helping the leather on his shoes get comfy and stretch a bit.
I’m thankful that I listened to my waiter and got not only a delicious meal, but a pretty sweet pair of boots!

Bought a pair of leather tennis shoes (and dress shoes). They are very comfortable, however, they started to fall apart within a week. I can now make them talk by flapping them. I’ve had 20 $ pay less shoes last longer (or forever). If you spend 600 $(+) on shoes you expect them to last. These shoes are meant for people who will only be wearing them to match the rest of their status symbols. The stars are only for the friendly people who work there and not the product.

Solid footwear option in a shopping area saturated with spots I don’t care for.

I’ve ogled Fluevogs for years and only been able to afford one pair in the past. This review is a shout-​out to Ali Nebel, and incredible sales associate who’s gently helped me find my second pair. I was in the shop for half an hour and fell in love with some black pumps but expressed hesitation at the price. Rather than egg me on, Ali took a very hands-​off approach and explained their layaway policy to me with no judgment or pressure, acknowledging that it’s the only way she could afford Fluevogs before she started working there. She even gave me a free pair of inserts for another pair of non-​Fluevog shoes I have that I mentioned being too big for me. I left without buying anything and said only that I’d have to consider layaway.
Two weeks later and I decided I was ready to start the layaway process. Ali answered the phone and remembered me immediately. She was excited to hear I’d decided to buy but again put no pressure on me to rush the process. She even invited me to come into the store and try them on whenever I wanted, now that they’ve got my name on them. Could not be happier with my experience — I felt as valued as the many much wealthier customers I’m sure they get every day who can buy immediately. Very excited to add these shoes to my wardrobe (in three months).

I just decided to celebrate a new job by purchasing a pair of Fluevogs — only my second pair, although I’ve admired the brand for years and years. After doing some research on the JF website, I paid a call to the Mulberry Street store. They had the style I wanted in stock, and a friendly (but not pushy) sales associate named Styles helped me to try on two sizes to determine the best fit. I love the atmosphere of this boutique as much as I love the merchandise. The customer service is excellent. I spied some other shoes and boots that I’d like to own someday, so I hope to be back before too long.

I found out about John Fluevog in Chicago, and although this New York store may be smaller than their other stores, it’s still just as great. Situated in Soho, it’s location is ideal being next to other higher-​end, artistic brands in this area.
For those unfamiliar with John Fluevog, it’s a top-​notch quality shoe brand that puts an interesting spin on the personality of their shoes, including details such as stitched swirls, angled heels, pointed toes and all other sorts of creativity their designers cook up. They also have more classic and versatile selections for those less inclined to venture on daring shoes.
But what I love is the range of style you can find in their collections, because you can find something extreme or classic, or in between. JF shoes have been known, to many people I have spoken to, for their outstanding quality and longevity. I’m on my third pair of JFs and all of them have held up tremendously well because of the quality of their leather and materials. I have never had a problem with the padding and the soles of the shoes either because the materials mold to your unique foot shape as you continue to wear them.
On a side note, I should also mention that part of their collections are usually limited to seasons, and once they are sold out they never produce the same shoe exactly (usually variations off of their base design). And as a customer, this makes my shoes feel even more special because there was only a limited amount ever produced.
Lastly, but certainly not least, their staff is so knowledgable about their shoes and downright friendly. They never make you feel awkward about asking questions, or requesting multiple pairs of shoes to try, and any of those terrible encounters you may face with a shoes salesperson. They’re happy to tell you how the shoes will age, what kind of care they might require, and what will work best for you.
So to wrap it all up, John Fluevog shoes are investment pieces. If you share a bit of the same quirkyness or artistic edges JF has a brand, or just have a love for quality shoes, John Fluevog is the way to go.

The manager of this store is out of this world!!! Fluevog is very lucky to have her! The other staff members are also über helpful. I love the style of the shoes but I love the customer service just as much. They are respectful and really want you to get a pair of shoes that you love. No pressure selling and no snobbery around what they think you can or cannot afford. I will definitely be a lifelong customer.
It is really hard these days to find products of such high quality with such fantastic customer service. I would love to talk to John himself to figure out how he has maintained that level of excellence over the years. Very impressive!

The salespeople here are unrealistically great. I went in to try some boots on to figure out my size, and even though she knew I wasn’t going to buy anything the saleswoman (Allie) was really helpful and accommodating. Props to these guys for selling expensive shoes, but not being snobbish to broke shoppers.

From my first Brandenbergs to my too-​cool kickass booties with the gold zipper pulls, and the 18 pairs in between, I’ve never loved any clothes more than my Fluev’s.
They always get compliments and make me look like a genius!
The staff always is helpful, friendly and they remember me. It’s no BS, they actually remember things about me.
and, the store is right next to MacNally Jackson, so I can go for a good read and cup of tea with my new shoes.

This store is amazing, I love the product, people always ask me about my shoes and boots from here. The staff is so above and beyond helpful. I am a devoted customer for life.

watch your credit card here. our number was taken and tickets were charged to it through stubhub. we got it straightened out but what a pain in the ass. one of the women took the card in the back while my wife was trying to get her shoes back on. the male employee came out on the floor and started dancing-​i knew something was fishy but i wasn’t doing the transaction so. beware???

You’re probably already familiar with the bangin’ styles of John Fluevog shoes, but you may not be aware of their superb customer service! Or maybe you are familiar, but never had cause to care (the shoes usually do not have issues). Let this concrete example be yet more testament to what a great company JF is.

My recent transaction at NYC’s Fluevog store left me equally impressed. I spied a pair of purple boots with buckles and it was love at first sight, as it often is with Fluevogs. Paul helped me out and it was a pretty speedy transaction, though I feel his friendliness is worthy to note. I’d expect this in New Orleans, but being that I’m a born and raised NYer, I brace myself for snooty ‘tudes you encounter in stores, especially in the SOHO area (NOLITA, whatever).
I got home to NOLA, eager to slip on those puppies and get to struttin’, only I noticed one glaringly obvious thing I had not noticed in the store: one of the shoes was faded. I wear a size 6 and so this was the display model. Not sure if it was in the window or not, but yeah, it had definitely faded. I took a pic and emailed the store. Paul himself promptly replied, apologizing profusely for not seeing it at the time (it’s definitely not noticeable w/​o natural light shining on them), offered a 25% discount and to send a polish to help even things out. We spoke on the phone further to discuss how to treat the shoes (if you live in NYC, you can just go in and they’d solve the problem, no doubt). It’s all good. One day later, my card is credited and I’m madly in love with my boots.
Now for further comment on this season’s line. OMG those Malibu boots?! If it’s possible for there to be a boot that is more sickly beautiful than the Grand National, this is it. JF, you are an evil genius. All I can think about is how I’m going to do without food for a month so I can save up for them.

Sales people took all the time that was needed to pick out some shoes for a special event. There were shoes spread all over the floor at one point because I tried on so many and they were nothing but patient and helpful.
I’m a convert!

I put off writing my 100^th review because I wanted it to go to the wonderful folk (and shoes) at John Fluevog. Why? Because they deserve it! From their stores to their website and news blasts, John Fluevog and his team of talented Fluevogologists send out positive vibes and excellent design.
After lusting after the shoes in Fluevog’s window for years — and I do mean years — I finally got a pair for my birthday this winter. It was a super fun shopping experience, and I usually hate buying shoes. I got great advice from a friendly salesguy and ended up with a pair of Mollie Johnson’s, cute heels named after a 19^th century «painted lady.» I don’t wear them too often because I’m a hundred feet tall already and have a job that involves being on my feet all day, but when I do — for parties and/​or dancing — I get lots of compliments.
Recently I took them in to get the leather stretched a bit, not knowing what (if anything) it might cost. The girl who helped me, wielding a rather scary metal tool, informed me that the only payment required was knowing I was wearing them more often.
I also want to give a special shout-​out to their excellent online shopping experience. I am reminded of the website periodically when I get their newsletter. Normally when I get an email from a store I wince and delete it, but not the Fluevog newsletter! It always puts a smile on my face — and a desire for shoes in my heart.
During their last sale I took a chance and got myself a cute pair of sandals. I got the nicest email from the Portland store, offering sizing information and advice, letting me know when they would ship out, and inviting me to come visit if I ever made it to town. Luckily the shoes fit perfectly, but I’m pretty sure that if there had been any problem the folks in Portland would have fixed it right up.
In the time since buying that first pair, I’ve become a bit of an evangelist. I can’t help it – the shoes are so cute! The prices are so fair! And gosh darn it, they make me happy! Usually I don’t go around telling people to buy this or do that, but when people tell me they love my shoes, I love telling them to go to Fluevog and check the shoes out for themselves!

I’ve not written a review in a very long time on Unilocal,however after a few weeks of shop shopping and disappointment, I felt compelled to recommend the experience at John Fluevog! I shopped there on Friday June 22, 2012 and was immediately warmly greeted by everyone in the store. I browsed a bit, found a pair to try on, and Alan immediately was helpful, offered great suggestions and ensured I was in the right pair of shoes. I tried on a few pair before my purchase, and I was so grateful for his attention, patience and keen suggestions.
This is my third pair of John Fluevogs, all of which I’ve purchased from the store in NoLita. I will continue to shop here as I have never had anything but AMAZING experiences. I had been eyeballing shoes from Cole Hahn, but after having been to two of their locations and after having been ignored by associates at both locations I won’t shop anywhere else for shoes so long as Fluevog’s continue to be such amazing quality and the staff continues to provide such amazing service!

The shoes are so good that I don’t even want to write this review. I don’t want anyone else to have them.
I walked in looking for a conservative but stylish dressy shoe. Each shoe has something unique about it in a way that made me have a tough time committing to one or the other. The one I ended up with gets attention nearly every day.
But don’t go there.

Excellent all around experience. I’ve always loved the unique style of Fluevogs and I knew it was time to get some serious walking shoes. With my birthday check burning a hole in my pocket, I head over to this location.
I wanted knee high boots and I have big calves, so I knew it wasn’t going to be easy. The woman working there, Daisy, was epic. She helped me forever and became as determined as me to get the right pair.
I walked out of there with a pair of sexy-​as-​hell Lovers. They are so comfy, so pretty, and everything I wanted. The store was wonderful and Daisy is the ^&^*&^&* bomb.

My friend wanted to have a Girl’s Day. I protested, threw a fit, and conducted a sit-​in, but my friend — who is desperately trying to girl-​i-​fy me — didn’t care. I spent an entire day getting a pedicure, a massage, and shoe shopping in SoHo. I want to say that the sit-​in was worth it, but I LOVE me a Girl’s Day!
Sadly, I discovered that I am in love with a shoe designer. ME!!! In love with SHOES??? I’ve never met this mysterious Mr. Fluevog, but his creations are fabulous (see what Girl’s Day did to me??? I just said «fabulous»!!!). I’m in love with his black and white booties with buttons up the side… and there are cute flared heels in colors like orange and red… so sassy I could never get away with wearing ‘em. There is an amazing selection of boots as well, from sexy thigh-​highs to steel toed sh*t kickers. The prices are pretty steep — upwards of $ 250 for most pairs — but there is currently a sale, and some of the boots/​heels/​flats are down in the $ 150 range.
The men and women who work in this SoHo store are a) unbelievably cool, b) unbelievably nice, and c) dressed like they just stepped out of a fashion magazine. Me and my non-​girly self kinda wanted to hole up in one of the bigger boots, but the dude with big earrings started flirting with me, so I was happily occupied. They have a glass jar of pins that say, «No, YOU’RE weird!» that I immediately attached to my jacket and have been rocking ever since.
I didn’t purchase anything (sniff), but my friend got an awesome pair of black boots with silver buckles called «The Bond Girl,» and loved them so much that she wore them home.
As for the pedicure, my toes are gorgeous. Hopefully the cute shoe salesman has a foot fetish.

Much to my dismay, while I was out and about flaunting my first pair of Fluevogs on their maiden voyage (to a plaid party in Brooklyn, if you must know), I discovered that one of the heel caps had come clean off, leaving a gaping hole in the bottom of my heel, where the leather was slowly and sadly fraying. Just before tears started rolling down my face, I remembered something:
The warranty. Free repairs inside 8 months of your purchase date.
The next day, I marched myself to the Mulberry Street location and explained my little incident. One wear, one seriously damaged heel and the other heel cap had also come off! The staff member behind the counter could not have been nicer, explaining that this was a known issue with the heel caps of these particular boots and they would be happy to send them to their local cobbler to fix ‘em up, good as new. They put a rush order on my boots, took my phone number and off I went.
Just a few days later, that nice young man called me to let me know what my boots were ready and that I could pick them up at my convenience. Lo and behold, there they were, as gorgeous as the day I bought them. You’d never know there was a problem, they were so beautifully fixed. The entire staff thanked me for my patience and welcomed me to come back any time.

I love Fluevogs!
Their shoes always have a little twist to them that fit my favorite aesthetic. I have been visiting this location when I visit NYC since the 1990’s and it is always inspiring. The prices are fairly high, but these shoes are timeless and will last you forever.
My favorite of all time is the Cloven Hoof Boot (photo uploaded), which can no longer be found. I saw a pair used on ebay for $ 600 last year. There are currently some variations of this style in the store now, but it is just not the same. I hope that they will re-​release this style one day soon!
