I’ve been a Pt of Dr. Bungay’s for years and find him to be warm, thoughtful, and easy to reach, in addition to being an excellent physician!

I think I’ve left a review for Dr. Bungay previously — whom I’ve been seeing for about 4 years now, but this review is for his office and staff. Not only are they always pleasant and helpful, but they are beyond efficient! I’m sure they have so many people to service yet they always respond to my requests (appointments or prescriptions) in less than 24 hours. There have been several occasions when I was about to travel and forgot to handle my scripts in time, but I’ve never gone without thanks to their efforts. I’ve also needed to see someone urgently on 2 occasions and they’ve worked me in immediately with a physician’s assistant — who were also very personable and efficient. As I’m writing this I also realized I’ve never waited more than 10 minutes or so to be seen for an appointment and I’ve never felt rushed once I am in with the doc — in NYC, this may be the only office that operates like this. Thank you!

Has been my doctor for close to three years. would recommend him to anyone. Service is great. He takes time to talk. And helps me manage my complex medical needs. He is available by email so I email him with a problem and ask for a referral. Totally recommended.

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Bungay’s for 6yrs. He is compassionate, kind and incredibly warm. He makes you feel very comfortable and he truly listens to you. He’s also very accessible via email and responds very quickly.

As good as it gets. I’ve never felt so comfortable before and talking about things going wrong with your body can normally be uncomfortable but I love this guy. Completely accessable and easy to reach for quick questions.

Dr Bungay is the kind of doctor you don’t expect to find in NYC. He is knowledgable, friendly, approachable, patient, and answers emails. He has my highest recommendation.

Recently moved from NYC to Florida and I STILL see Dr. Bungay — yes I fly to NY to see my doctor. Granted I fly for free, but he is totally worth it!
Being that I live so far away, I email when I need him for little things. He is very prompt with responses and all the necessary follow-​up. Hands down the best doctor I have ever had.

When I first moved to the city, I transferred my care from my provider in Connecticut to a provider at a community health center that is well established within the LGBT community. Fast forward a few years — it was time to find a new primary care provider because I’m a full-​time paid employee of said community health center. I was beside myself — I didn’t even know how or where to begin my search. A half dozen or so of my coworkers recommended that I make an appointment with Dr. Bungay, and the rest is history.
I’ve had my fair share of primary care providers over the years. Let me tell you… Dr. Bungay is simply the best. It’s very important to me that my provider [in addition to being brilliant, of course] have impeccable bedside manner. Living in NYC, I suffer through my fair share of meanies throughout the course of the day. The last thing that I need is to experience that via the person that has my physical well being [somewhat] in their hands. Well, Bungay does not disappoint. He is ridiculously nice and super sensitive. AND, patient! I’ve been on an injectable medication for a little over 4 years, and was looking into changing to a topical gel version of the regimen. Bungay was a big help and SO patient in this arena — totally listening to my desire to change and giving me all of the information that I needed to make an informed choice.
If you fall somewhere on the queer spectrum and are looking for a medical provider, look no further. Bungay is EXTREMELY sensitive and affirming to those that identify as LGBQ and/​or folks of transgender experience.
Confession: I HATE talking on the phone. Pretty much more than I hate anything else in the entire world. Bungay has the option of communicating with him via E-​mail. It’s the most convenient thing that has ever happened to me. That, and the fact that I can make my appointments MONTHS in advance. I need to see Bungay twice a year, and the office is able to make my next appointment at the conclusion of my last one. I LOVE THAT. I’ve seen so many providers in the past that don’t book appointments that far in advance, and instruct me to call closer to the date to make an appointment. Um, I will never remember to do that. While this may seem like a minute detail, being able to plan my [very hectic] schedule in this way helps me more than I can explain.
The office is also GREAT about fitting you in ASAP if you have an urgent issue. The screening nurse, Sue, is basically the nicest woman that I’ve ever met. She’s worked her magic to fit me in the schedule for urgent care twice over the past six months or so, and I can’t thank her enough! The physician assistant for the office, Kelly, is also lovely. If you’re looking for a new provider, look no further. Bungay and his team make up one of the greatest practices in the city.

He seemed hurried, didn’t really listen to what I was saying — I mean, I was in the office for less than ten minutes. I’m kind of surprised at the unanimity of these positive reviews.
Then again, his office was so busy it looked like it needed a revolving door, so I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he’s just overwhelmed by the number of patients he has these days. It happens a lot, unfortunately, with doctors whose case loads have grown beyond what one person can reasonably handle.

Great guy. Great Bedside manner. I had my first visit with him today and not only did I not have to wait after coming to the office but I was greeted by him and taken into his office before the exam. He was super friendly and seemed very thorough. It was my first visit with him and I feel like I am in good hands. He gave me a thorough exam including palpating my abdomen and went over all the basics even though I appear healthy to make sure I am healthy. Sometimes looks can be deceiving.
He’s obviously a bright guy but does not have the ego to match which is a rarity in the medical business. I’m recommending him to my wife and anyone else who needs a new doctor.
Everyone in the office was friendly too.

Crap. I now totally get what others mean when they say that they’ll miss Dr. Bungay if they ever leave NYC. Once you’ve been in his care as a PCP, it’s hard to imagine going to anyone else.
Sure, the front desk staff might be a little gruff, but I only take that to mean that they’re getting their crap taken care of. I certainly know that they obtained all of my deets with a minimum of fuss, easily caught my accidental omission of one signature, and otherwise left me to my own devices.
Also, I don’t remember the last time I didn’t have to wait an additional half-​hour to see the doc after my actual appointment time. This joint runs pretty much like clockwork, based on my experience (where, admittedly, n = 1).
And Dr. Bungay himself is totally genial, super professional, and quite warm. I mean, anyone who can hold a pleasant conversation and make you feel reasonably comfortable while handling your private bits… well, that takes some seriously dope bedside manner.
Bonus: Upon observation of my ring, we have a brief exchange that went something like this…
Doc: So, I see you’re married?
Me: Well, no… engaged to my boyfriend.
Doc: Oh, me too!
Me: (Giggle*)
Which then caused us to delve into a whole other realm of extremely personal, yet pertinent health-​related queries for his EMR (presumably).
Nope. As far as I’m concerned… it really, truly doesn’t get better than this, folks.

Another gold (5) star for Dr. Bungay. He’s very easygoing and was incredibly patient as I made my way through the long list of minor ailments that have been plaguing me in the three years since my last physical. He took even the smallest things seriously and addressed every last one with a suggested lifestyle change, medication, referral, test, or supplement. I’m glad I now have a doctor I can trust to be thorough and accessible about my health — as others have said, he’s available by email as well.

I love Dr. Bungay! He’s an extremely great doctor, he’s patient, you never feel rushed and he’s thorough. I think that’s all most people expect in a doctor but he exceeds that. He’s also available via email, which from my experience is actually pretty rare (which is sad since we are in 2010!). He does specialize in the LGBT community since he does HIV and transgender care, which many PCP’s do not. A couple more things to note, the elevator in his building is horrible, he’s on the 5^th floor, so you rely on it (get there a little early) and Quest Diagnostics is in the basement, so when he sends you to draw blood you’re not going far! (keep in mind they close early so this doesn’t apply to appointments past 4:30pm)

I’ve begun to use Unilocal exclusively when it comes to finding doctors. So far, I’ve been successful finding a dermatologist, lady doc, and now a GP.
Without going into too much detail, I’ll say this: Dr. Bungay is warm, comfortable, thorough and honest. We went through my medical history (and my list self-​diagnosed ailments). He assured me I wasn’t dying, but did need to cut down on the Franks Red Hot and coffee, and take a pill (both literally and figuratively).
He is accessible via email, which I think is fantastic. Overall, finally found a doc I can trust, so I’d recommend him!

Sadly, my long-​term doctor who I loved did not accept my new insurance. I had to get another MD. Dr. Bungay was recommended to me by several of my coworkers. They raved about how nice he is!
I googled him and found these reviews on Unilocal.Wow! a doctor who is not only incredibly nice and attentive BUT who you can email??? Now there’s a no-​brainer! (If I had a question it would take days to get to actually speak to my existing doctor) I could deal with a cranky receptionist if need be.
I went to see Dr. Bungay. He (AND his staff) were lovely. And just now, I sent him an email. We’ll see how this budding relationship works out…

I’m seriously considering never leaving NY (ever never ever) just because of Dr. Bungay. In a large city like this, finding a doctor you trust, you like, who cares, and performs great medicine is like discovering time travel.
Doesn’t that stupid elevated bed with the sterile crunchy paper and the bright flickering lights make you uncomfortable and vulnerable? Having to talk about the puss or cough or pain under extreme examination makes anyone want to avoid going at all costs. Visits with Doc Bungay are anything but that. His desk with chairs are in one room and the examinations are done in a connecting room. He sits down face to face to chat and talk about what ails you (and with great concern and attentiveness I might add), takes you in to be examined and then back to the cozy room to discuss. Funny how the psychology of removal from the stale and scary changes your experience of going to the doctor.
And yes. He’s available by email. I find myself quite often sending him a list of my symptoms and finish up by asking if i should come in. Invariably he’s concerned. He’s always gotten back to me within the hour or two and that’s even on Saturdays!
I don’t know. If I ever do end up leaving NY, I think I might just kidnap him.

Brand new to NYC, and believe I lucked into the best doc ever. So much more engaging and helpful than my past docs…
I do agree with the other reviews regarding the bitchy staff, howver…

I didn’t know Unilocal did doctor ratings.
Dr. Bungay is fantastic. Because of a chronic condition, I probably see him more often than most people see their primary care physician. He’s warm and welcoming and has always made good referrals for specialists. I’ve referred several friends to him and would do so again.
He isn’t one-​sided like some doctors about what treatment plan to use, either – sometimes I’ve found from past experience that a particular medicine works well for me, and he’s willing to prescribe it even if it isn’t his preferred medicine, or he’ll explain why he prefers a different one, and it feels like we’re having a conversation about my care rather than just «doctor’s orders».
Only thing to be aware of (and not Dr. Bungay’s fault): the elevator in the building is dreadfully slow. Either arrive five minutes early or be prepared to trudge up five flights of steps.

If I could give Dr. Bungay more stars I would.
I have never been a fan of doctors and it seems as though the most want you in, then out. Dr. Bungay sits down and spends time to ask you questions — then proceeds with the exam.
Also blood tests take place just down stairs.
