Open everyday. Weekday breakfast temporarily on hold (will resume in February). Lunch served every weekday (starting at 11 am). Brunch all day, Sat. and Sun., from 10 am till 5 pm. Happy hour weekdays 5 – 7 pm. Kitchen open till 11 pm weekdays, midnight Friday and Saturday nights. Late-​night bar.

History

Established in 2015.

Owner Stefan Jonot wanted to create a place that feels as welcoming as a typical corner bistro in Paris – a spot that becomes a part of neighbors’ daily routines, from drinking coffee to reading the paper, working through lunch, dining with the family, or grabbing a nightcap on the way home. His LES neighbors told him how they missed his previous spot, Les Enfants Terribles; Les Enfants de Bohème has the same friendly atmosphere and delectable menu.

The cuisine is French bistro fare – it might seem «haute» to some, but for Jonot and the chef, it’s just French, emphasizing seasonal, local ingredients («normal!» said with a French accent) and expert preparation. The menu is compact, carefully crafted to capture the best of market offerings.

Partners include restaurateur Daniel Rivera, longtime LES resident and actor Josh Lucas, British photographer Simon Harsent, and design journalist Cathy Lang Ho.

Business Owner

Like most French people, Stefan Jonot grew up surrounded by food. As a child growing on Ile St. Louis in Paris, his first job was working for his stepfather, a fromagier. His favorite thing in Paris is wandering through the food street markets, particularly Bastille. He has been involved with the launch of several restaurants. But prior to opening LES Enfants de Boheme, he also made documentaries on music subjects and organized itinerant music events in Paris. He moved to New York permanently in 2002 and opened Les Enfants Terribles (Ludlow + Canal), selling his share in 2012.

He collaborates frequently his wife Cathy Lang Ho, a design writer, on producing cultural events, such as an installation on Governors Island with a pop-​up café and the Official 2014 FIFA World Cup Viewing Zone.

For his new venture, his partners include Ho, as well as the restaurateur Daniel Rivera (Crooked Tree, David’s Café), longtime LES resident and actor Josh Lucas, and British photographer Simon Harsent.
