Lily was great! She washed my hair, cut it, and blow-​dried it! I give her only four stars because it’s a little pricy (though, to be fair, most places on the Upper East Side are) and because the woman behind me was very upset with her up-​do and it turned me off to going back there for a styling! Overall though I am really glad I went here. I wanted 4 – 5 inches off my hair and she did a great job getting exactly what I asked for. So if you’re going for a cut — this is definitely a great place!

Lily is the best. I come from way out of my neighborhood to see her! She understands my curly, breakable hair, and we work together to create a beautiful and flattering style. I feel good and my hair feels good. She’s given me advice about handling my hair no one else ever has that’s improved it dramatically, and the haircuts have been so flattering, that when I decided for the first time to color my hair I didn’t hesitate to go to Lily. Her eye guided the decision-​making, but she understood precisely what I effect I wanted. She’s an expert! And I’m a new loyal customer.

Lily’s Hair Studio is exactly the kind of long-​time, small business that my fellow Upper East Siders (and beyond), should check out, if you want personal, focused attention & a fabulous cut & color, in a quiet & relaxing environment. I previously had my wavy hair cut @Devachan Salon (mini-​chain), and grew exhausted from its corporate/​chilly & cattle-​call approach to me & my hair, and its loud, not relaxing, environment. The only things that could be improved @Lily’s are cosmetic: a) Softer Lighting (I hate fluorescent lighting); and b) More Heat in the winter months (which would make the place even cozier), and c) Better Music (more loungey & soft, rather than the canned stuff that you hear at places like NYSC). Thank you, Lily, for bringing my hair back to life & for making it shine!

I have been going to Lily for 12 years to have Japanese straightening. I have it done approximately every 9 – 10 months, so she’s done in at least 15 times over the years. My hair is in great shape and I’d never consider having someone else do the straightening for me. She is a consummate professional. She’s also cut my hair many times over the years and I’ve always been pleased. Nice, small, neighborhood place.

I have been a loyal customer of Lily’s for 2 years now and she is the ONLY person I will trust to touch my hair. She keeps my hair looking fabulous and her customer service is equally superb. After a recent visit, I wasn’t 100% in love with my color (an impending trip to Paris will make any girl more critical/​paranoid) and Lily was more than accommodating. She listened to my concerns (as crazy and nit-​picky as they were) and was quick to offer a solution, all without complaint (very rare in NYC!) Being the color wizard that she is, she spruced up my ‘do to perfection, free of charge. About five minutes after leaving her studio, a complete stranger complimented my hair! Lily, I am beyond grateful! She truly cares about her customers’ satisfaction and it shows; every time I come in, she greets me (and everyone else — there is a large group of Lily Loyalists!) like an old friend. Her husband is equally as charming and her assistants are true gems. I always look forward to my visits and can’t say thank you enough. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU.
Tip: Request the thermal scissors for your haircut!!! These scissors changed my haircut so dramatically, I will NEVER go back to normal scissors. I can now go up to 6 months without a trim (I was still getting compliments on my haircut after 6 months). Simply the best.

When I first moved to NYC, I was subletting a studio a few feet from Lilys for 8 months. The salon was convenient and looked cute, so I would stop by every month to get my bangs trimmed. It wasn’t much but I was always pleased and really liked the staff, so I decided to let Lily do the hair for my somewhat impromptu wedding (cut, full highlights and styling), which turned out gorgeous.
I moved to a different part of the city soon after and only stopped by occasionally. Truthfully, I thought this had just been another neighborhood salon and that I would easily find a way to replace it. Whenever I needed to get my hair done, I looked for groupons or lifebooker deals thinking I would get similar service at a more reasonable price. After getting burned badly a few times, with uneven or unattractive cuts, bleeding highlights and destroyed hair, I realized that I had been completely wrong and that I hadn’t valued the fact that I had actually found a quality salon. Yes, it is not cheap, but it was around then that I realized that no decent salon in the city is.
About 3 weeks ago I decided to go back and made an appointment to see Lily for a cut and style. At that point my naturally wavy hair was way too long and completely out of control. Lily greeted me like an old friend and cut my hair perfectly with a heated scissors. She also styled it beautifully, exactly how I asked her to do it. Also, she still uses the best products, and what’s even more amazing is that you would never know that they’re for sale if you didn’t ask because no one is pushing you to buy. I told her that I was perpetually confused as to what to do with my dry, frizzy hair and constant flyaways and that the only product that works and that I actually use consistently was the argan hair oil she first sold me 2.5 years ago. She asked me what shampoo I used and I told her I had switched to sulfate free ones but that I am not sure if they are working. She gave some samples of a sulfate free shampoo and matching conditioner to take home, both of which I started using and impressed me so much that immediately bought two giant bottles of it online. She and her assistant also did such a great job with the styling that I asked her what product she was using. I looked at it, recognized the brand from the argan oil and asked if I could buy it from her. Since then, I have used it every single day.
Some three weeks after my last visit, I am still extremely pleased with my haircut and I will recommend Lily’s salon to anyone. I hope to be back there for highlights soon.

I’ve been going to Lily’s for 20+ years. I found her by chance and will never leave. She always does a great job, and everyone loves my hair color. She always fits me into the schedule and I can depend on her. Now with the new «thermo-​cut», I can go 4 months without needing a haircut! Can’t ask for a better salon!

Thank you to Lily for an amazing haircut! I’ve been going to the same stylist since I was 12 (I’m not 28) but I have a newborn so I needed a stylist close by me (my guy is in the mid 50s area). I brought my baby to get my haircut and Marina was so sweet — so I can enjoy my haircut, she held my baby the entire time! I felt like a princess. I’m very particular about my hair and Lily knew exactly what I wanted. I was extremely happy with the cut and I will definitely be going back again! Thanks girls :)

I have been a client of Lili’s for over 15 years and LOVE her. She is a genius with color, and every visit is a pleasure. The salon is very relaxing, and her husband Mario is charming. Assistant Daria is lovely and warm and friendly. Lili has a new tool — scissors that are heated, that «seal» the hair cuticle and made my hair seem my fuller and healthier. I have been a satisfied customer of Lilys for over 15 years. This is the place to come for color, body waves, hair cuts, conditioning and blow-​outs that will last all week. Lily is very personable and takes the time to discuss your concerns and what you envision for your hair style. The shop is always neat and clean. Her assistant, Daria is very pleasant and upon your arrival always takes your coat and offers you a drink. Every visit to her shop is a pleasant and satisfying experience.

When I moved to the UES, I was looking for a good salon after Supercuts butchered my hair. I found Lilys on Unilocal,and set up an appointment. She and her husband Mario run the salon. They are both very nice and attentive. She fixed my hair and has been the only person I trust with my hair. Great place with great service at a reasonable price.

This place is great! I was looking on Unilocal for a place to get my hair cut and highlighted. Lily’s was the only one nearby with 5 stars, though I was apprehensive since only 6 people had reviewed, but I took a risk and went for it.
They got me in the same day. As soon as I sat down I was asked if I wanted anything to drink, if I needed anything, etc. When I sat on the chair she spent a few minutes looking over my hair to make sure she nailed the color, which I really appreciated.
My color looks extremely natural and was exactly what I was looking for, and the cut is great. She added in some face framing but listened to me when I said I don’t like too much layering. It looks great! Also one of the best shampoos I’ve ever had.
The place is spotless, inviting, and super friendly. Highly recommend!

I found Lily by chance. I needed to cut back financially so was looking for a stylist who could cut and color for less than the $ 300+ I was currently spending.
I was walking by and Lily’s little shop looked so clean and well maintained that I decided to give her a try. I have had two haircuts and two colorings so far and couldn’t be happier. I am spending less than half of what I spent before and my hair cut gets far more complements than it used to. I can’t recommend Lily enough. Her place isn’t fancy, so you’re not going to be fawned over like in some big salon, but she does a great job and is very, very nice.
Update ¹⁰⁄₁₅: I moved out of NYC recently, but used Lily until then. She gave a consistently great haircut and color for a reasonable price. I still highly recommend her.

I’ve been going to Lily’s for something like 4 years now, starting when they owned the next-​door location as Metro Hair for Men.
After they shut its doors, I kept going to Lily’s because they’re the best in the area.
Lily, and her staff all provide service with a smile and the best damn haircut I’ve ever had.

Lily has cut my hair for the last three years. I have long hair, and often wait way too long between cuts (up to 4 months). I don’t know why I do– Lily works magic every time. She doesn’t lay on a guilt trip– although I’m enough of a regular that she and her husband like to tease me about it.
Lily has cut, colored, highlighted, and deep conditioned my hair. I’ve been happy every single time. She does the best blow-​outs on my very long, coarse and curly hair. I feel like a million bucks when I leave her salon.
The salon also has a great atmosphere. Often it is just Lily and her husband. Usually something interesting is happening, which makes me feel as if I have somehow landed in a sitcom. The last time I went (before Christmas), Lily’s husband had made a potent eggnog which nearly knocked me out of my chair. It was offered to all the clients, which made for a convivial place.
This place is a neighborhood gem– worth signing up on Unilocal to review it. Lily deserves the attention– she runs a great studio.

I told Lily that she needed some Unilocal reviews, so here it goes…
I called Lily’s to make a last minute appointment on Saturday after weeks of walking by her cute little salon and thinking «That place looks nice.» It’s got exposed brick and a very warm and inviting feel. She scheduled me for later in the afternoon, and gave me the fastest haircut I’ve ever had – a cute little a-​line bob. I’m no expert on hair cuts, but I really like it.
Then, came a disastrous at-​home dye job. The «light golden brown» I purchased somehow turned out to be more like a soulless, light-​sucking greenish black. In a panic, I called Lilly immediately, and she called me back the next day and scheduled me for an evening appointment after work. By the time she finished, it was 8 p.m., and I could tell she was tired, but she still blow-​dryed and styled my hair to perfection. Plus, the crisis was averted! The new color looks fabulous.
The cut was $ 45, and the two-​step color correction was $ 90 – a pretty good deal for Manhattan, and especially the UES. Plus, Lily is really sweet with a some pretty loyal regulars who stopped by while I was there (she’s been working in the neighborhood for 23 years).

Lily’s Salon is a neighborhood fixture on the Upper East side, run by Lily herself and her spouse. If you need extra care, color correction or just a regular, homey salon to provide ongoing care, Lily’s is the place. She always tries to fit you in, but prime times book up quickly. The Salon also runs a nice addition that caters to men clientele who can step into their own «man cave» for their cuts and shaves! I have scouted many of the other neighborhood places, and hers is a best kept secret. No blaring music or warring haircutters here, a nice quiet little place to go when you can. Lily has cut and colored for many years and is not a start up junior cutter — I have seen her work on all types of hair or people with problems like thinning hair, hard to cut hair, bad dye jobs from other area salons, etc. I have been using her exclusively since around 2005, when she fixed a bad dye job from one of the Second Avenue places. You don’t go to Lily’s because you are looking for trendy kids and environment that you are ultimately paying for, you go for a nice ‘do. I would say her prices are average, more than the SuperCuts kind of places but certainly less than Mad Avenue.
