Let me first start off by saying — no I didn’t buy a voucher. I came here out of my own free will. I realized while I was there yesterday that I wasn’t sure why the place has such bad reviews because everyone there was nice and the place was super busy. I went there to see Celia for a balayage and she did an amazing job. I am not in agreement with the review posted on here about her. I personalty think is a bunch of crap. Celia was a professional, friendly and personable. She knows her stuff and she knows hair. Her assistant is wonderful that poor girl works tirelessly. My hair is thick, curly and black. What I wanted I wasn’t sure could be accomplished and Celia did that and then some. My hair looks amazing. I am very happy with my results. I am definitely going back to her for the touch up. She is worth every penny. Let me just say that what this person states about her hair falling off has to be a complete lie. I was there from 3pm — 7pm and no 1 person hair fell off from all the highlights and touch ups she was doing. She had a client on the hour and her assistant was great with the help. I give Celia and Richelle 2 thumbs up. They were great and I am SO SO happy with my balayage. As far as price I expected to pay more therefore was completely surprise to find out it was less. The place is pricey however cheap never gets you good results specially when you are talking about hair. I like mine to stay on my head not on the floor.

I had purchased a voucher on the street like many others. The deal was unbeatable, so I was going to be pleased either way to get these services for that price.
I haven’t gone back for the second session yet, but I will.
Haircut was less than inspiring, but I didn’t ask for much. I just needed a quick trim to clean up the ends. I showed Oksana a photo of what I wanted, but that I wanted it an inch or two longer. I was referring to style/​texture, but she was caught up on length.
We had a bit of difficulty getting on the same page, but she was very pleasant. I asked her what she saw in the photo and she said she saw it short. So I just dropped the photo, and asked for a trim. It turned out to be a pretty blunt trim without any texture. She blow dried my hair and burned my head/​hair a bit and I was out in less than half an hour in total.
It was a no frills visit, no cushy massage with hair washing, no fancy blow dry, no texture to my haircut. Seemed closer to Supercuts — but I paid a Supercuts price, so fair game!

The only reason why I’m not giving this four stars is because I believe the prices are very high compared to other places I’ve been to. Oksana was my stylist and she was AMAZING. She did an amazing job on my highlights, cut, and blowout. She did try to upsell an awful lot, which was a bit of a turn off, but understand why she does it. My total came to $ 460 after tip and tax for cut, color, and highlights. This was the discounted price because I had a promotional card. I can’t even imagine spending more than that at original price.
They offer beverages upon arrival and give you a robe to wear, so it feels like a salon. The guy who washed my hair was fantastic and also gave a really nice neck and shoulder massage. Downside is that you also need to tip him too.
I think Oksana did a great job, but just can’t justify coming back to spend this much money on my hair ever again.

This place is not worth going to if you have curly hair. Such a horrible experience. My friend and I were approached buy a promoter from this salon at union square. We agreed to purchase the promotion and made our appointment. When we went to the front desk the woman was extremely rude when she asked for our name. After verifying our appointments she looked at me and said we don’t have a curly hair specialist. (Mind you when making the appointment specific hair types were never mentioned.) I asked the woman does that mean that I shouldn’t then get my hair cut? She replied «no it means that blow drying your hair straight is impossible to do without using a flat iron. The service required to do your hair will cost more than is included in the promotion.» I couldn’t believe it. I felt like she was telling me we don’t serve your kind here. I proceeded to ask what my options were and she became very dismissive. She seemed reluctant to get the money returned. In fact she said the salon could not refund us that we would have to contact the promoter to get our refund back. She made us wait and extra 10 mins before she would even give us the contact information for that promoter. Needless to say I felt horrible leaving the place and I wasted money on a promotion that I didn’t even get to use. Curly haired girls please stay away!

Dont go there. Specialy if you bought promotion. They are not honest people. My brushing was a catastrophe… They make you give min 15 $ tips even if you have bad service. They really make you buy more product. Second time for a massage, we came 30 min late, and they told us massage is gone. Hh escuse me? We paid for that. I had facial treatment product smell very bad. Then I had manicure, The women from manicure didnt want me to Start my manicure if I dont give 15 $ tips to The a other Women. They completly crazy. Bad expérience and bad vibe. Save you money!!!

So I don’t usually leave reviews, but I thought I would give back to the community since I used Unilocal a lot when researching this place. I bought the coupon voucher off the street like everyone else… for a pretty good price (high recommend negotiating for a better price). I made an appointment and the receptionist was pretty cold, barely looked at me when I came in or when I paid the $ 15. I paid with credit card and I didn’t know that by using credit that they would charge me more money (ended up paying $ 16.33)… it wasn’t a lot but I would have liked some warning beforehand and it just wasn’t a good first impression… especially after all the bad reviews I read on Unilocal.
To the waiting period: I wasn’t offered a drink or anything and I did notice that most of the drinks were pretty much for the workers… they were having a great time by the drink station actually lol. I don’t usually care for a drink anyway (as with all the hair products in the air), but I know it matters to some of you on here.
To my hair cut: I forgot the name of my stylist (she had long hair and was wearing like a night gown when cutting my hair and looked of middle eastern decent? maybe?) She wasn’t much of a talker and kind of gave off the feeling like she didn’t care about what I had to say or what anyone had to say unless they were «important.» Buttt she did a good job, she gave me what I asked for and she didn’t pressure me into buying into any of their other services, which I realllllly liked. She did offer me a drink too.
Leaving: make sure you go back to the counter to pick up your coupon thing if you want to come back for the second visit, because I can see how it could be very easy to just leave without getting your coupon back.
TLDR: Meh service, kind of elitist feel. But did a good job with my hair.
(I personally don’t really care about how friendly the people are (being a nice person doesn’t mean the service is bad all the time, and i’ve had a lot experiences where that has proven to be true… but hope this was helpful to those that bought the ticket off the street spontaneously and are now freaking out to see if it was a scam or not lol)

I was not happy with my haircut. Oksana seemed very rushed and washed and cut my hair very quickly (not in a good way). I had a picture but it didn’t turn out like the picture. She didn’t measure anything and she cut way too large of a section off for bangs so now I have a big chunk that’s a lot shorter than the rest of my hair… supposed to be «bangs». The worst bangs ever. Very little attention to detail. Unwelcoming atmosphere. Definitely did not feel high end/​professional.

Oksana did my hair last Friday. She suggested the style and the length. She sounded very professional and I agreed. She did an amazing job! It’s been 3 days now after the haircut, I’m so happy with it! Great suggestions, fantastic job! I’ll definitely be back!

I myself purchased a promotion through a salesman on my way home from work. I was extremely skeptical and hesitant after I read all these bad reviews. BUT I went yesterday after work, my appointment was at 5, and I saw someone immediately. I was offered beverages several times, and the treatment was outstanding. My stylist was Mabeline, she was terrific. I originally walked in just for a hair cut, but she recommended a natural lighting hair option, and now my hair looks incredible. Healthy, shinny and soft. I also received deep conditioning + massage, and seriously the massage was SO worth it. I am definitely going back for my second day spa visit.

I also bought one of the vouchers that they sell on the street, and I must admit that I was apprehensive after reading all of the reviews below… No need! I had the BEST experience! The salon is adorable, my cut and color came out AWESOME (Thank you Irina), and the staff was really great. They lost my voucher after I turned it in for my first visit, but gave me a special card and promised that there would be no issues when I come back for my second visit… I trust them, and I will DEF be back. :)

I chose this salon because a friend of mine convinced me to purchase one of the brochures from someone on the street. Obviously, even with the brochure this place is expensive — it’s New York City! But it’s worth it. I had such an amazing experience here. Michelle (not sure the spelling?) did my hair and he was INCREDIBLE. So fun and personable, and also so talented! I opted to go for a cut + totally blonde highlights and I am so happy with the way my hair looks. I have had my hair highlighted more times than I can remember and this was by far the best experience I have ever had. My hair turned out better than I could have imagined. Additionally, every staff member there is so nice and welcoming. They serve wine and give compliments left and right. I look forward to the next time Michelle does my hair!

Conclusion? I’m NOT RETURNING. Not even for the «second day» spa visit that’s included in the coupon I bought (see pic attached).

Registration fee = $ 15 + tax (if using credit)
Ambiance: low-​medium end salon (tries to act like medium-​high end)

Clientele: mostly new people with coupons. And mostly people who aren’t used to medium/​high end salons
Stylist I had: disliked. Made me feel un-​welcomed. Did not cut or style my hair as I had asked. Forgot to cut layers. Forgot to cut bangs. And then when she did cut my bangs, she cut the hair to fall directly on my face (couldn’t breathe!) and they turned out uneven… Sigh. Didn’t ask her to fix it because I was afraid of sabotage.
If you absolutely can’t get refund, I heard Osaka is good. Go to her if they let you. I wasn’t allowed. They told me stylists go «in order.»

I can’t speak to the salon or its services, but I can tell you about the rude way I was treated by one of their representatives. And seeing the other reviews, clearly I am not the only one they’ve tried to scam.
In a hurry on my way to my office, I was stopped on the sidewalk, by a guy who asked for 60 seconds to talk about this «great» salon. I have a hard rule: I do not give money to people who solicit me for deals (I’m super skeptical, what can I say??). Once I realized that he wanted me to buy something right there, I told him, «No, thank you. I don’t buy things on the street.» Apparently he was pretty miffed that he was not going to get a commission out of me, because as I walked away, he yelled after me, «We’re not even on the street. You should get your eyes checked!» And while I would normally chalk that up to typical New York City rudeness, that guy left a lasting impression on me that I would NEVER want to spend my money at LMax Salon.
I even called the salon right then to let them know how their representative was treating a potential customer and that he was giving their salon a bad name. The receptionist was very sweet, assuring me that the salon manager would call me later that day. No one ever did.

I got this deal on the street by paying 40 dollars for it when I was in a hurry.
And the guy who sold me this package told me I can get a full refund if I don’t want this deal.
But when I called him later on to check more details on the receipt (bc there was nothing on it and I got scared), nobody picked up and he even hung up my phone!!! Now I want a full refund and there is no one I can find…

This review is for Celia– the ONLY person I trust now to take me fully blonde! This lady is a GENIUS and an ARTIST, who has a beautiful soul to match her talent. I came to her upon a recommendation from a friend, and after months of always putting my appointment off, I bite the bullet in October 2015 and finally saw her, BEST DECISION for my hair. I came to Celia with a vivid goal in mind: SILVER HAIR. It took two sessions, which is key, patience will benefit you and your hair! I am super stoked to have my third session coming up with her, she never disappoints! Regardless of how long I spend here, it seems so short since her company and her assistant, Rachelle are great to be around and there is never a dull moment (even when my scalp is on fire– I WAS PREWARNED!) Celia is very attentive to detail, and will always work you toward your goal and will work with your hair goals! I don’t think I will ever see anyone else, she is the one for me!

I, like many others, was approached by a person in Union Square with the promotional packet, and finally decided to schedule the hair appointment last week. The women I had was pushy and a little bit rude, but I did like my cut in the end so I gave three stars. Hopefully the staff will be a bit more friendly when I go in for the second part of the promotion. Overall, I was satisfied with my hair, but customer service could be improved.

I have been reading the reviews for her and she is becoming so popular– I hope she has time for little olé me in the future (haha). I have also noticed the reviews regarding the deal for the salon and have to defend the salon here… I also became a client of this salon after paying the $ 70 for the deal. it is not the salon’s fault if you got the deal and feel that you were ripped off. The salon provides excellent service and great results. If you choose to stay quiet about what you really want from your stylist then do not complain– you have to communicate. Getting this deal turned out to be the best thing for me. it introduced me to this salon and the people that work there– everyone is nice and open and will make your time there great.

I purchased a package from a promoter to get a hair cut and for it to be styled. I worked with Libia and had an amazing experience. She was wonderful to talk with and she did a great job with my color change. The color glaze was exactly what I wanted, I didn’t give her too much direction and it came out like I had envisioned, natural! Overall I had a great experience. The only thing I didn’t quite like was the $ 15 one time charge, I did not expect it and did not quite understand why they charged a fee, regardless I still would go back to Libia.

Do not come here. ESPECIALLY if you purchased a promotion off the street. They sell it to you saying unlimited drinks/​wine but they LIED. Now that I’m here waiting for a massage, they’re telling me it’s only ONE alcoholic beverage when that’s not what I purchased. These women are RUDE AND UNACCOMADATING. idk where these women are from but they have a heavy European accent and DO NOT CARE ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE. I’m telling you. Do NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.

STAY FAR AWAY. I too fell victim to the deal on the streets like a naïve dumbo. I feel stupid and you will too. The woman who cut my hair didnt even tell me her name and was drinking the whole time. The so called complimentary beverages going straight into her mouth but not offered to her «client». How the hell do you cut hair in 10 minutes when it is long and layered??? Being the crappiest tipsy cutter ever, thats how. I have nasty blunt cuts that are uneven. Plus she was just mad i didnt want other treatments despite her telling me how «terrible» i look. They also have the audacity to demand tip even when you hate it and look like absolute poop.
If the second part of this expensive deal (mani and facial) are also as disgusting as my haircut experience it will be my personal mission to stop those liars in the street from fooling other women.

I was approached by a man that offered a voucher for a «high end salon» experience. I normally pay $ 20 – 35 for a wash and set from the God sent Dominican women. So this $ 50 voucher + $ 15 one time fee was steeper than usual for me. Horrible experience. My stylist was Libia– she seemed to not have any experience with my hair type. Which is often seen as Latina, but in actuality I’m black and white. She asked me whether I wanted my ends blown in or out– I replied with in and how does my hair look? Pin straight ends, no body. Useless.
Very easy curls and pin straight when done. Hair was all in front of my face, couldn’t read a magazine, couldn’t drink the wine, nothing. She asked why my ends are so dry and tried to sell me some product– I ONLY use Jamaican castor oil on my hair. Never over the counter products so this hair is not dry. I just COULD NOT with this service at all. I’ll be going right back to my $ 20 service around the corner from me.

I was approached by a man outside of Columbia U, and while I never usually buy promo stuff, I was new to the city and looking for a hair salon so I decided to try it out.
I was 30 mins late because of horrible traffic, but they were so nice about it. I waited maybe 15 minutes and was offered a drink. The receptionist was wonderful!
I had Libia for a cut and color. She is so soft spoken and sweet. I asked for a dark base color that was ashy because my hair fades red. I said I was trying to cover up my grays (I’m only 22! :() she said some dimension would help disguise them so she suggested highlights too, all the while reminding me that it would be more expensive than the voucher covered. We also decided on a trim to get rid of layers I didn’t like and make it all more one length.
She was so professional and kind. I got exactly what I wanted! This is probably the best hair cut and color I’ve ever had. Also, everyone who worked there really seemed like they liked each other and like a family. I am really happy, and I will definitely be returning.

I was rescheduled by management several times, the last time 24 hours before my appointment. On the day of my appointment, I was instructed to wait an additional hour («why don’t you go hang out at Lord & Taylor?» management told
me). The customer sitting next to me said that she and her friend both had the same experience. We were all first time customers. The services themselves are fine, if only about 60% of what is advertised in terms of value; the management does their staff a disservice with its unprofessionalism, and unfortunately that is what overshadows the experience.

LMax salon did a GREAT job with my ombré. They served my friend and me three glasses of wine each and were extremely personable throughout. My hair came out exactly as I wanted and my stylist clearly had good judgement about what to do. It seems like a weird location when you enter the building because it’s a multi-​office building that looks like an apartment building. However, the salon itself is very spacious and well-​structured with large windows in the back overlooking Grand Central.

I have not been to the salon. This is a review of their customer service on the street.
I was approached by these guys in Union Square a couple of weeks ago. They were pushy, and followed me down the street when I told them I’d prefer to look up the salon before purchasing anything. And today, I was approached by them when I left Columbia University. After I was first approached by them, I did some research and realized how misleading their pitch in Union Square was — registration fees, coupons framed as free services, all of the things you see on Unilocal.
So, when he approached me and was just as pushy as the guy in Union Square. The $ 15 «activation» (or whatever they call it) was completely left out of both sales pitches I sat through. So, I told the guy him I wasn’t interested should be ashamed of himself for misleading students who have no money. He then freaked out, and screamed at me that he was going to sue me. For speaking to him on the street. When I told him he couldn’t sue me for speaking to him and voicing my opinion, he yelled at me as I walked to the subway saying «THIS IS HEARSAY. YOU ARE DEFAMING ME. I WILL SEE YOU IN COURT.» Clearly the guy is as big of an idiot as his package is a scam. Like, watch an episode of Law & Order before you threaten to sue someone for «hearsay,» buddy.
In any case, if he wants to make good on his little lawsuit, here I am.
LMax, go ahead and work on your customer service.
UPDATE: A «John P» who is employed by L Max messaged me on Unilocal — not initially identifying himself as an L Max employee — to tell me my review was «misguided and irresponsible.» It’s pretty clear that this place is tacky all around. If you don’t want people to leave bad reviews, don’t hire pushy people to sell your product who scream at you on the street.

Background: I used the Times Square flyer deal. I was very worried it was a scam and that my friend had be duped out of her money when she gave it to me as a gift, but it wasn’t a scam! It’s a very very nice salon and they serve you wine and beverages during your service.
Experience: The staff are all very nice. I couldn’t get through on the phone and they took me as a walk-​in no problem.
The Cut: My stylist was Libia. I loved chatting with her, and she spent a generous amount of time washing my hair and massaging my scalp. Now I’m not picky about haircuts because I’ve never gotten one that I loved, but I LOVED this one. I told her about how my hair was thinning and she knew just how to cut and style it to fix that, plus explained how I could do it at home. She didn’t push on up-​sells.
Overall: I’ll be back for sure!

I came to this salon because I received a $ 40 voucher (originally 70, but since I’m a student, I received a lower price) for a two day salon and spa package. Apart of this fee, I had to pay a $ 15 registration fee. This seemed like a great deal since I’d be getting my hair cut and have a spa day (two different days) for this low price. I also did this as a 21^st birthday present to myself, since my birthday was July 10^th; I went to the salon the day before.
I understood that getting a different hair color was separate from the voucher, and I was okay with that. When I made my initial appointment, I made it clear that I have very curly, kinky hair, and that I also have alopecia, so I wasn’t sure if I should color my hair in the first place. I asked for someone who was knowledgable in both these areas. They gave me a woman named Oksana. When speaking with her before she even touched my hair, she sounded both experienced and knowledgable about curly hair and hair loss, so I trusted her judgement. Oh boy was I wrong.
My hair is naturally dark brown. So dark brown it looks black, except for when I’m in the sun.
I wanted chocolate brown hair.
Seemed simple enough.
Instead she bleached and highlighted most of my hair blonde, and gave me an ugly candy caramel/​red toned color everywhere else. I asked for a trim — about half an inch, and she ended up cutting about 3 and a half inches. My hair was to the middle of my back before the cut, and was then up to my shoulder blades.
She couldn’t even straighten my hair nicely afterwards. It was frizzy and started to turn curly again as soon as I stepped foot out of the salon. I was crying the entire night into my birthday.
The whole experience costed roughly $ 347.
$ 292 for the hair color process.
$ 40 for the voucher.
$ 15 service fee.
Then the next day I had to spend an extra $ 220 to fix my hair at another experienced salon.
Thank god I went to Bloom Beauty Lounge — they really SAVED my hair.
I got a color similar to what I originally wanted. I couldn’t get the same exact color because of what Oksana originally did.
I also had to cut most of the damage that was done too, resulting in my hair being cut to the top of my shoulders.
I won’t complain about the new cut because it gave my hair bounce and volume, and ultimately looks so much healthier.
LMax got so much money from me and I’m a full time student with a part time job. All I wanted was new hair for a new birthday year. Instead I received an episode of ‘Botched’ but the hair edition.
Never again.

4 stars for my haircut, minus one star for the general purchasing experience. I will update if the second «mini spa» visit changes anything!
I got the same solicitation-​in-​the-​street voucher deal that a number of other people have mentioned here. (Basically, young guys walk around and target women who look like they live in the city. You get a wash/​cut/​style on your first visit, and a «mini-​spa» experience on your second visit which includes a facial as well as an eyebrow waxing or threading) It seems a little bit scammy, but I held out for the hefty discount the seller offers as soon as you say «Nah, not interested». It had been 18 months since my last cut, anyway, because I am very lazy, and I figured it couldn’t be all that much worse than trying salons by trial and error and Groupon. I see from the reviews on here that some people have gotten cheaper rates, which doesn’t surprise me.
My stylist was Patty, and I liked her a lot. She was quick and efficient. I didn’t ask for anything fancy — just a thorough trim of all my dry split ends from my previous ombré, and some styling that would work with my thick, frizz-​prone hair. I appreciated that I wasn’t upsold on anything within the salon itself.
Do note that if you buy one of these vouchers, they tout a $ 15 registration fee (which was stated when I bought the voucher) that allegedly includes a number of Moroccan Oil products. It was strong implied to me, if not straight-​up stated, that I would receive some of these products as a gift, although that turned out to not be the case at the front desk. I’ll try to get more clarification the next time I go back to collect Part Deux of my «spa experience», but that was the only downside from the voucher. Other than that, the salon seems nice enough — clean, bright, cool décor.
I feel pretty neutral about the place itself as well as my buying experience, but I did like Patty very much for the relatively basic cut I requested.

Oksana worked her magic again and made my hair a really rich darker color that has some nice dimensions and also still a sheen of red that bounces off certain lightings.
I changed the color for a wedding and everyone loved it! Oksana also cut it so well last time that when I came in it had grown so much, but kept the layers and the cut (she was so surprised by how quickly it had grown… she did a double take and we laughed as she asked if she had given me extensions without realizing it)!
The keratin treatment is also holding up very well. I love children, and at the wedding as I played with the little kids every few minutes I would feel a little hand caressing my hair and hear a whispered, «It’s so soft.» It was very sweet and I felt very beautiful (but also constantly checking to make sure their little fingers hand’t left any surprises in my hair)!

Preface: I was told by a few people on Unilocal that this place is actually Alfani salon, but they move/​changed the name whatever because a lot of people were catching on to their scam. If this is truly not the same place, I apologize. Here it goes:
Well, I gave in and got that package for $ 20 from some guy around St. Mark’s place
The haircut isn’t bad, but it isn’t spectacular. What really bothers me about this place is how they treat people who got the deal. It seems that regular customers get better treatment and they rush people who got the deal out of there.
The woman who cut my hair, Magaly, was the type to insult you to try to get you to pay for more services. She kept criticizing the way my hair color was done and she couldn’t stop saying my hair was dry. She even said «oh you really don’t care about your hair.» I’m sorry lady, my life revolves around more important things than hair. I guess if you have the package, request to have someone other than Magaly. I’m just outraged in general that people use this as a sale tactic or as a way to pick up women if you’re a creepy guy at a bar. Once again, lady, I’m not some dumb broad whose life revolves around hair.
The receptionist was nice though and offers you a drink after you pay the $ 15 service fee. Overall, if you have the package and go in for the haircut, you at least won’t walk out crying about how bad your hair looks.
In response to the owner’s (?) Comment: it was indeed Magaly because it was a couple of years ago and she gave me her card. Also, the salon was dead when I was there. There was only one other customer besides me. Finally, your salon is terrible for the outrageous price.

Disclaimer: The majority of the negativity of this review is for a curly hair cut. Perhaps people with other hair types have better experiences.
I don’t Unilocal-​bash places that often but man, I had a bad time here. I also came because of the $ 70 deal. To start, the deal is not nearly as good of a deal as it seems. There an extra $ 15 «registration» fee, and most of the «perks» aren’t actually services but discounts for additional services that you can purchase. All that I got was a wash and cut. The voucher said it included 2 days, however they never said anything to me about scheduling the 2^nd day and they took my voucher so. oh well. I’m not too eager to return anyway.
When I scheduled my appointment, I specifically asked for a stylist who specialized in cutting curly hair (many stylists are clueless) and they assured me that was fine. When I sat down with my stylist, I knew immediately that she wasn’t experienced with cutting curly hair because she wanted to wash it before cutting it (with curly hair, you should always to most of the cutting dry). I suggested doing it the other way, and she became very defensive, so I conceded.
The result? Now I know why you’re supposed to cut it dry: after it’s wet, it loses all the shape of the curls so you can’t see how to cut it. The next day, when I showered and «reset» the curls, I discovered that the cut was completely uneven. It was so bad that I cut a couple of hair myself to make it more symmetrical. I’ve never cut my own hair before, so I guess I did get a life experience out of it.
She also combed out my hair as the last thing before I left. This is the LAST thing you want to do to curly hair: it just turns it into a mass of frizz. I had to just put my hair in a ponytail once I left to avoid looking ridiculous.

I got a $ 70 dollar deal from a person in Washington Square Park. With that you get a hair cut (and deep conditioning), 30 minute massage, mini-​facial, manicure and I think an eyebrow wax. They also advertise unlimited drinks and you break this up into two day session.
My first complaint is all the additional charges. First they charge you $ 15 to activate the coupon and then charge you a mandatory tip on their inflated pre-​discount prices, before the services. That really doesn’t feel like a tip at all. I do realize this is in the information before you buy the voucher, but why not just add that amount into the voucher price?
The first service I had was a hair cut/​deep condition, which was nothing special. My specialist was rather rude. I have long hair and was trying to decide what to do with it and asked if there was anything special that I could do with it in terms of a cut while keeping it longish. Her response was basically cut it very short or spend hundreds of dollars on a treatment because my hair was dry (it isn’t). I had asked her advice because there was supposed to be a style consultation, but she seemed annoyed.
So, I told her just to trim it with a bit of an a-​frame in the front. She agreed in a sort of a brisk fashion and remained silent for the rest of the hair cut. Not at all pleasant. No drinks were offered to me at all – not even water. I could see the drink cart and arrived early, but no offer of refreshments.
The second day was a bit better. The massage was perfunctory and more like the therapist running his hands over my back than a proper massage. The room was very tiny and there was a lot of people running about so it was not at all calming.
The worst part however was the facial were I was pressured into purchasing a better facial. I told the therapist that I was a student and it was too expensive, but she kept talking about how bad my face was and how the facial would help me. I would not expect such a hard sell at a saloon which markets themselves as upscale.
The manicure was nice, but the preceding experiences left a bad taste and made it hard for me to enjoy. With it over and done, I had to spend way more than $ 70.
I know they say the people who approach you on the street are not their employees, but the people who try to sell your products do reflect on the business and their aggressive tactics do not reflect well. I will not return.

I loved the haircut! I loved the space and the staff. In the deal I got a color consultation and my hairdresser took the time to talk with me and even though I didn’t end up doing the color she really talked to me and even worked to get me the best deal she could. I really appreciated it.

Best haircut I’ve gotten in NYC so far from Mr. Michell Aguirre! I have long wavy hair, so I need a cut that looks good ona day 1 and grows out well, and his cuts deliver on both fronts. Plus, he’s fun to talk to and incredibly nice –not too pushy at all, and listens carefully to what the client wants. When I said I wanted subtle honey — colored highlights, that’s what I got! No ugly bleached streaks from this guy.
I’m also a fan of the salon in general. They get people in with the vouchers, but then make an effort to please so you’ll keep going back. For example, on my second visit I got the free manicure, and they said the next time I get my hair cut I’ll get a free manicure too! Isabelle painted my nails beautifully; she’s a perfectionist who’s been doing nails for 15 years.
Most salons in Manhattan are all about speed, but this place places quality at a premium. My services were done efficiently, but slow enough that I knew I was receiving focused attention. Plus, I was offered a beverage of my choice at least 3 times — the staff really wants to make sure customers are comfortable!
This place is not cheap (proximity to Bryant Park & Times Square should tip you off), but they offer great deals. I’ll keep going back because I feel like a great long lasting haircut and perfect mani are worth my money!
