Lower East Side Orthodontics

I’m appalled at this so-​called doctor’s behavior and «work ethic»…not. My daughter has had her braces for TWO years now and Fader’s partner orthodontist told my daughter that her bite is perfect and she’s ready, more than ready as she put it, to take her braces off. I was told to make an appointment with Fader who told her that she indeed was NOT ready, in fact, he wasn’t even sure WHEN she’d be ready. My poor kid came out of his office with huge tears in her eyes because he’d badgered her about when HE took her ex-​rays! He was scolding HER because SHE did not know the date HE had taken the ex-​rays!!! Ludicrous, asinine, SHADY behavior.
I marched back to him and asked him very calmly, albeit with a sharp logic that I have that rivals a serious attorney cross-​examining someone, I asked him what his rationale was for keeping her braces on when we all know, including his very own partner, that her bite is perfect, her teeth are straight and perfect, etc., etc., and he became quickly (alarmingly) unraveled and consequently agitated and animated. He was waving his arms and his voice was loud and HIGH (god, it was so weird) and he was saying my daughter’s teeth were not ready and he «just knew it.» I then asked him calmly… okay when then will they be taken off, timeframe-​wise, to which he again agitated and loudly started stammering and said «I.I…I…I…don’t even know!!! I can’t tell you that now! All I know is that she is not ready and I just know it!» It was so bizarre to have a conversation with a grown man/​DOCTOR who was quite literally throwing a tantrum to rival any 5-​year old child. I had to tell him repeatedly to calm down and speak normally, that I wasn’t attacking him but rather asking him a NORMAL medical question that I, in truth, deserved to know an answer to!
Needless to say, we got a third opinion from an unbiased doctor who agreed with Fader’s partner (& vehemently disagreed with Fader). We are getting a fourth opinion for good measure. But still… come on, the guy is in his 50s and acts like he’s fucking 4! I’m so upset that we have poured so much hard-​earned money into this man’s practice who most assuredly does NOT deserve one penny of it. What egregious behavior and unprofessional, insensitive treatment to not only my daughter but to me. He is trying to milk more and ever more money out of us. But seriously, does he really think people are THAT stupid to be bullied by his bad behavior and completely lost moral compass? FRAUD!

I’m an adult with braces. And this is my personal experience with Dr. Fader.
I went here because Dr. Fader is in network with my dental insurance. It has been almost a year and I made a separate appointment to see Dr. Fader so I can ask him some questions and see where the treatments are going… I still see gaps and misalignment and the last treatment he spoke about retainers… which I was surprised since I still feel like we are not near the end of my treatment.
So as soon as he walked into the room, he started to complain and get whiny about why I made a separate appointment and how he is so busy with «fifty patients» waiting for him… and then he proceeded to say how much he has done for my teeth.
I was shocked at how unprofessional he was in dealing with having a conversation and an adult interaction about the treatment. He got very defensive.
What I thought would be a routine check in conversation turned out to be uncomfortable and unprofessional.
I think if you just go in for treatment every month w/​out any in depth questions then he’s fine. Literally he spends about one minute with you. or perhaps if you’re a parent then he might be different. But as an adult who is involved and concerned about my own orthodontic process, I think Dr. Fader is not a good choice.

Filthy scum bag piece of shit. The ortho head looks like he came out of central casting. Gold teeth gold chain and a shirt half done down. Only takes upfront cash payment. Safe yourself unlike me. 2000 $ of hard earned cash gone… Make a wise decision.

I guess anyone can get a bad review, but my experience over many, many years with two daughters has been nothing but positive with Dr. Fader. He does great work, charges much less than others, and is always super nice and polite. Spends time with you answering questions. The staff is great. Everyone is very accommodating and flexible. One of my daughters is a difficult patient to put it mildly and everyone has treated her very well.

Really an unprofessional experience, if you don’t agree or if you have a concern that contradicts the Dr. You basically get the boot. The arrogance and pre– Madonna attitude of this doctor are appalling.
Shame on you sir!!! Shame on you. Leavening your patient hanging and threatening not to provide a retainer because it’s been 5 years and the patient is considering getting the braces off, but you don’t think it time yet, so you won’t provide them, is vindictive and disgraceful!!!

I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Fader and his staff.
This practice is tucked away on a far east corner of Grand St. that’s easy to miss but it is well worth the walk from the subway. Perhaps that’s why his prices are about ¼ to1/​3 of what you’ll pay in Midtown or Uptown. On Invisiline braces that’s a significant savings.
It starts at the front desk with a competent and gracious staff, the hygienists are brisk but careful and thoughtful, and Dr. Fader is excellent.
I’m so grateful I found him.
I’ve had the misfortune to have dentists that are neglectful/​incompetent/​dismissive of the health of my teeth but right there to take your money. Perhaps that’s why I’m so happy to sing Lower East Side Orthodontics praises.
