Manhattan Carpet & Floor

All I can say is WOW! After a DIFFERENT contractor had completely destroyed my floors and baseboards (along with thousands of other dollars worth of damage), I discovered Manhattan Carpet and Floors. I had walked by there dozens of times on the way to work and always saw people in there. Nervous to trust anyone in my apartment after my previous experience, I sat down with Frank and David and told them my story. My parquet floors had been stained with a product that was poorly applied. My only options were to sand them or get new floors. Resistant to sand ANYTHING, we discussed laminate. I had mixed feelings about laminate, but Frank and David showed me their high quality laminate products. While wood was certainly more costly, high quality laminate is not cheap, but I’ve learned the hard way that a deal is never a deal. The laminate looked so much like wood I could not even tell. I live close to the store so Frank and I walked right over to look at my apt that evening to measure, bring samples over, etc.
Once the product arrived to their wharehouse, Frank had it delivered to my apartment so it could sit there for a day and get used to the temperature in my apartment (that’s how you know you are dealing with a pro).
My apartment is a one bedroom with A LOT of furniture. It took them ONE DAY to install everything (new floors and baseboards). I was shocked, impressed and pleasantly surprised. I have been recommending them to everyone in my building.
I chose Coretec Plus Clear Lake Oak. It looks just like wood and is so easy to clean. It has completely changed the look and feel of my apartment.

I paid a deposit of $ 2300 on 5÷19÷15 for installation of fitted carpet. The installation was delayed twice (!!!) but, finally, scheduled and completed on 8÷24÷15. I was not satisfied with installation and, that evening, sent photos by email of the wrinkled carpet, saying that I would pay the balance (approx $ 1400), by check, when the problem was fixed. I was told, in an email, that the problem was easy to fix. I replied, offering two dates for a service call, but didn’t hear back. Imagine my ASTONISHMENT when I saw, less than two weeks later, on my credit card bill, that the store had BILLED ME for the BALANCE on 8÷13÷15 — in other words, ELEVEN DAYS BEFORE INSTALLATION. IT WAS CRIMINAL TO CHARGE MY CARD FOR THE BALANCE BEFORE THE CARPET WAS INSTALLED. So, in summary, the installation was put off twice, the installation was faulty, and the company took the balance owed before they had even installed the carpet. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!
Now it’s 11/​19/​2015. VISA kindly stopped payment of the balance that was fraudulently charged to my credit card, by Manhattan Carpet without their telling me and before they installed the carpet.
To protect other consumers and to report this shady practice, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB).
After many weeks of communication with BBB, they wrote to me today:
«Your BBB has tried to present your complaint to manhattan redi cut carpet inc [the official name of this company] in an attempt to resolve this matter to your mutual satisfaction. Unfortunately, despite our efforts, we have received no response to your complaint. We attempted to contact manhattan redi cut carpet inc through written correspondence twice on your behalf, The firm’s failure to respond to your complaint will be reflected in its BBB record.
A firm’s rating may be affected by its failure to answer even one complaint. Your experience may, therefore, alert other inquirers seeking information through the BBB.»
So, now, in summary, (1) the installation was put off twice, (2) the installation was faulty, (3) the company took the balance owed before they had even installed the carpet, and (4) they failed to respond to two written messages from BBB.
As I said, «YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.»

Our experience with Manhattan Carpet could’ve been better. They were sweet enough to understand our needs once we lost our space a year ago and, so they held our floors for us since we had already made a first half of the payment.
Once we moved to our new space we moved forward to install our floors and all was going well till Manhattan carpet took forever to finish the floors and when they were half way done, some of the tiles were already coming off because of bad installation. Not only that, but towards the end they rushed to finish so they could charge our credit card they had on file WITHOUT our authorization.
Bottom line, after 4 months of our floors being installed they started coming off and I had to get another company to come and fix it. I would just say be careful when giving Manhattan carpet a credit card and watch if they are doing their job correctly. Nonetheless we learned how to be more cautious with companies like that.

The experience I had getting a bound carpet remnant from Frank, David and the rest of the crew couldn’t have been any better. They were helpful and polite from start to finish and best of all I have a 8×11 rug now that was cheaper and much higher quality than any other area rugs out there. Thanks!

When I needed a marmoleum floor for my kitchen and a carpet for a bedroom, dave at manhattan carpet was great. he found me a remnant for a great price. installation was first class, and most of all, i felt i was working with someone straightforward who wasn’t going to rip me off.

If Unilocal had six stars, that would be my vote! After getting fleeced at another flooring place, my husband and I walked into Manhattan Carpet leery and weary. Our experience here was stellar from start to finish — excellent product selection and prices, and even better service. We were impressed with every person we came into contact with — from the newly hired sales clerk who helped us in the store, to the guy who came to measure, to the installers, and ultimately David, the owner. This is our second time working with this company, and I’m sure it won’t be our last!

You don’t get much better than this. 4 hours after I walked in and selected, I was delivered 3 custom-​sized, custom-​made area rugs. And the price for all 3 was less than any one rug I saw on the net! David is fantastic about understanding your design and financial needs. I loved this store 15 years ago, and it’s only gotten better! Forget the big box stores and the internet, visit Manhattan Carpet!
