I’ve been a Marshalls fan for years and years now, and make a point to shop there every time I’m back in town. They have great deals on designer clothing and handbags — which is what I normally shop for. This location on Ave of the Americas isn’t bad at all: no wait for the dressing rooms (though it gets crowded with everyone’s carts piled up in the front, and was a bit tricky to find as it’s «hidden» behind the shoes section), overall selection is pretty decent (not a lot of jeans or workout shirts in my size though!). However, the checkout line was SUPER long, and if I hadn’t been about to buy out the whole store (not kidding), I probably would’ve thought twice about buying something and just left. Staff at the dressing rooms were nice and friendly; so was the security guard at the front. Not the staff at the checkout counter, though.

We went yesterday with my boyfriend and he found a Versace suit for less than half the price we paid at Nordstrom the day before! It was my first time at Marshalls but it definitely won’t be the last! So many nice, cheap stuff from good brands!

the store on 78th street and Broadway looks tacky. Not sure why… it had gone from neat looking to sloppy and messy boxes everywhere. sales staff chatting in Spanish to one another Should not be doing this… wrong speak English! woman paged over the public address system, really! I think I will do a letter to their corporate office in Mass… this is wrong and a poor business practice to allow it to occur. It needs a paint job in the dressing room. and basement area b2? looks shabby and junky! it is just crowded and tacky, but just in the past two months??? not sure why! why all the luggage?! and no children essentials?! need more lingerie — dresses… they are just awful now… I walked ot and went to TJmaxx on Columbus.
what is going on at this location? ALL THE GOOD SALES STAFF LOOK STRESSED .I live in the area! but will not go back in there for while agh. Jessica

I am used to seeing the lavish spaces at the TJMaxx/​HomeGoods in Minnesota. This place is definitely comparable to the assortment and space in the store. Except for furniture, bedding and maybe a wider variety of bags. Great for NYC and better than the rest in the borough

Great bargains on designer clothes for men and women.
But I always go there for high quality gourmet food items. They carry excellent English teas and the Tao of Tea from Oregon, at great prices. You can also find imported french cooking oils (walnut, grape seed) for half the price. Same with organic coconut oil.
And last but not least the fine soap/​shower gel selection. EO products at 50% less than the usual «organic» stores.

This is THE BEST Marshall’s out of all of the Marshalls stores in the boroughs. In fact, it’s the best Marshalls store I’ve been to, period. The store is huge, the selection is always wonderful, and I never leave this location empty handed. When it comes to other locations, they are always a hot mess and are always hit or miss. This location, however, is always on point. I am so happy to be working near it again (though my wallet may hate me for it!).

This Marshalls was fantastic. Even though I couldn’t find the item I was looking for in their store, they went beyond the call of duty searching for me. A lady at the front desk even told me where some local pet stores were and was very detailed in her instructions on how to get there. As a 12 year customer service professional, I’m very happy with the service I received. Keep up the top quality service!

The selection is good. So times they have great stuff and sometimes they don’t have much. The lines are really really long. It’s best to come in the morning. The customer service is awful. The cashier seemed annoyed and he kept arguing with me that what I was returning was not a two piece set, even though the receipt in front of him, said otherwise. Super rude.

It’s awesome that there is a Marshalls in New York City but be prepared for crowds and disorganization. While I understand you are paying less for top brands, it’s still annoying.
Furthermore, because it’s so popular I feel like it’s alwAys in a state of being picked over. There are literally random empty shelves in every aisle.
While it’s still a great place to get markedly discounted goods, I say skip it and just go to TJ Maxx upstairs!

Great place to come to purchase quality name brands at discount prices. If you take your time, you shall find it.
They have jewelry, purses, shoes, luggage, furniture, hair care and clothes for the whole family.
The only downside is that the lines can sometimes be super long.

The first 2 times I went to NYC I always went to Macy’s. Until 3 years ago I discovered Marshalls and TJ Maxx. So this vacation this store was a must again for me. All clothing and shoes are so much cheaper than in my country.

I like this store to buy a good brands with discounted prices. But couldn’t find anything special in my last couple visits in this store. As always women’s section is full with any kind of clothes with pretty good discounts. Except men’s section. I hate that it’s really HARD to find a good style and discounts for mans in this store.

A lot of more expensive Italian designer brands than in other Marshalls but not when you compare to Century 21.
You’ll find everything here from luggage to underwear even jewelry.

Had to write another review based off my visit ten minutes ago.
In and out in record time, literally five minutes. While I was waiting in line, the manager Matthew was going up to customers and asking how they were doing. I commented that this was the most cash registers I’ve ever seen open and he mentioned that they were hiring ten more next week and that they were slowly working to fix the shortage. While checking out, my cashier made small talk and was just so friendly.
Great customer service. Speedy checkout. And I got nice umbrellas for $ 10. I’d like to say my review started a movement, but honestly, great job Marshalls! Love the changes!

This is one of the most unorganized Marshalls with very poor customer service. You’re pretty much on your own to wade through the racks, with very little help and mostly grunts passing off as answers for your questions.
Having said that, they have deep deals on many brands, if you have the time & patience to dig deep. Brands include Micheal Kors, Kate Spade, Sam Edelman, Vince Camuti, Rebecca Minkoff bags (on good days) & many more.
Some really good (and cheap) finds in their home section too, though it’s quite tiny.
Also be prepared to stand in the check out line for at least 15 minutes at an average post 4 pm on any given weekday.
Try & avoid weekends if you can, as it’s filled with tourists filling their suitcases with all the goodies and clothes strewn all around.

When you walk into a Marshall’s it can be a hit or a miss. They sell a variety of brand names at discounted prices; clothing, bedding, and home goods.
Like fishing for a deal, but depending on what they have in stock and how it’s organized, you might go home empty.
But when you do find something you want at a good price, deals can be found at this place, but remember. no guarantees.

Yes, Marshall’s is not what one would consider a super organized store. And yes the lines are ridiculously long for what seems to be no good reason.
Now let’s observe Marshall’s from a different perspective, the way I choose to. The clothing cluttered all over the place allows the opportunity for one to find a treasure overlooked by others who wear their same size because said special article clothing is in the size section where it has no business. Therefore, there are ample opportunities for one to find something special amongst the many great deals.
Now to the ridiculously long lines… That simply means many people are finding treasures. Now go and find some great deals for yourself at Marshall’s.

Whoa, two words: big mess.
Holidays 2012 fends a mess of stock in a complete disarray state. I was never a fan of Marshall’s, a discounted department store in Chelsea District that carries some designer brand names as browsing through enables one to sustain a big fat headache and loss of time for great frustration. Indeed, as per Phil H., it is hit or miss. Patience and time are big factors to finding something to one’s interest with regards to size, color, style and price.
Staff are chatting mode among peers/​co-​workers or updating their every waking status on FB or Twitter to burn the clock rather than actually working. Ergo, customer service is nonexistent. Crowded during the peak hours of the day in the Chelsea area as patrons are on their lunch break. This space is shared with Bed, Bath & Beyond in the upper level.
