I signed up to be a Redken Hair Model a few years back and I’ve always had good experiences. I do miss their old location in SoHo terribly as this one is a little out of the way for me. The 2 free full sized Redken products that they give you make it worth it though! Ashley, their coordinator, blasts out emails to their listserv regarding open appts for their coloring and styling. Sometimes I even see emails going out about free perms, although I’ve never gotten one done myself. You walk into your appt, sign in and change into a Redken robe. Then a stylist will come in, separate your hair in half and use two different yet similar products on you. She’ll then wash and blow dry your hair, all the while checking the difference between the two products used and takings notes. It takes about an hour in total and like I mentioned before, leave you with free swag! They’ve gotten increasingly picky over hair length and now do not do styling or coloring for anyone with hair longer than collarbone length. I was not aware of this so when I showed up to my appt this past weekday they said they couldn’t take me! They did however give me 3 products for coming all the way down there and for that I am super grateful! Thanks Redken: D

This is the place where hairdressers come from all over the world to better themselves. Housed in a very unique loft-like space, the Academy houses a retail space in the front where you can purchase all Matrix Haircare products(i.e. Biolage, sleek. look etc…) and sign up to be a hair model for upcoming events/trainings/seminars.
