I loved this roof top bar. Sort of hard to get to from the entrance of the Met but worth it. There isn’t a lot of shade & its pretty expensive but cool to go up for a drink and take some pictures. My sister and I went during the day on Saturday and it was pretty toasty but not too crowded. We were probably up there for a total of one hour and got one drink each($ 15/drink). There’s this weird barn up there that you can take pics of, can’t go in it, its *art*, but still pretty interesting.

The view on the roof is wonderful! Definitely worth visiting, even if it gets a bit crowded during sunset. Getting up can get quite confusing, as the Met is huge, but there’s plenty of employees that will show you where the escalators are. To get in it’s all donations, so you can give a penny to however much you’ll like to get in

Rather than stroll around art that has been seen a zillion times. Take the elevator up to the grassy roof and watch the people, where the nouveaux riche pretend to have culture. It’s a riot add a nice smooth martini and it’s a blast. I beg you, don’t complain about the masses they are the show. Since there was nothing in terms of exhibition my heart yearned to see gave a tiny donation. If you spend a day looking you can do better. Just up top buying drinks no need… Count the Michael kors bags its great… he hehee. A plus place for giggles.

You can get here either by taking the elevator in the gift shop area by the Greek & Roman Art section on the second floor or by walking up the very narrow stairwell next to the elevator, but the only way back down is through the same stairwell. While this one-way flow of traffic alleviates some elevator congestion, the trip back down isn’t very handicap– or wheelchair-friendly. Sorry, Bubbe and Zayde. The roof is open only during the summer months, but don’t expect to find an actual garden, as the only plants are shrubs and vines hanging from the wooden trellis by the entrance. The café and bar prices aren’t much better than the cafeteria’s, but at least the cafeteria’s ingredients haven’t been slow-cooking in UV rays on a rooftop all day. Aside from the widely publicized PsychoBarn exhibit(which is only a façade supported by scaffolding and not an actual barn you can enter), the only other thing to do here is to take in the panoramic view of Central Park(a view which from now until October will be partially obstructed by Cornelia Parker’s sculpture). I went up at noon on a Saturday when it was horribly muggy and crowded, so I didn’t get the romantic sunset experience available on weekday evenings.

It’s fun to do once a year — not more than that. It gets way too hot up there and this year there’s no astroturf, which takes some of the magic out. The drinks are not very good — too sweet and artificial/the fruit tastes like it’s turned from sitting outside too long. Go up, take a picture, leave.

I love this museum, and this was once one of my favorite rooftops. It’s a special place that is one more example of this city’s generosity and commitment to impressive public spaces. Having said that, I have in recent years noticed two challenges the museum is facing(that are one and the same). This is etiquette. Visitors to the museum often disregard instructions to look not touch. In turn, some of the security guards have lost their manners. There is only one elevator to the roof, and the joy of reaching it can easily be dampened by the bark of security. Once on the roof, there is shade for the martini bar, but none for the seating. Yes, the rooftop exhibits are an added museum bonus. It is the view that lets any of us feel and maybe even dream(if even for a moment) that the view is our very own. If you’d like to make this a summer afternoon haunt, make sure to bring your umbrella or pick one up at the gift shop.

first of all, really wish they had some tables with umbrellas here for extremely sunny afternoons. came here with a friend on a day where it was about 90 degrees and to say the least we were sweating. there was no areas to sit in the shade to be able to cool off. the overall space is on the smaller side(we were expecting it to be larger) but none the less the view is breathtaking. my friend and i both ordered the ‘plot twist’ drink and it was horrible. bartender did add quite a bit of rum, but you could not really taste it due to the sweetness of the drink. we both commented and said we wished they had more drink option to choose from in terms of cocktails. but, the view is amazing and if you are at the met definately stop by and take in the amazing views.

This is one of the best views of Central Park in the city. Just happened to stumble upon this place on a visit to The Met. The bar was closed when we were there, but the skyline and the Paine sculpture were mesmerizing enough. Don’t miss this when in the city.

The Met rooftop garden opened in 1987. I know this because I happened to be there that year. My first visit to NYC and I got to be at this(now well-known) place right when it opened. My friend who got me to NYC for the first time somehow got invited to one of the opening parties for this, and then took me! Over the years it’s had a slew of different exhibits and shows. All«outside art» or course. But the real draw is the view of the park and city. And of course the martini bar. You can get snacks up there daily. I’m not sure but I think the bar is only open a few evenings a week. But well worth a visit even if the bar is closed. If only for the views.

There are far experiences in this world that are as good as a warm evening while you watch the sun go down over central park, standing next to an amazing sculpture while drinking a martini on top of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. There are things that rival this, but not many. It can be crowded and it can take a while to get a drink, but don’t worry about that. When you stare out to the south and see the city laid before you with the last light of the day lingering and you are sipping an ice cold martini it is, pretty much, a perfect moment. Don’t complain it was expensive. Don’t complain that the service was slow. Just STFU and enjoy one of the rare gifts the world has to give.

Underwhelming. 2.5 stars. I had been looking forward to visiting the Met Roof Garden Café and Martini Bar, but I did not enjoy my time there. Yes, you can see a spectacular view over Central Park, although I prefer the view from the Mandarin Oriental and the Bergdorf Café instead. It was crowded here, and too«dress down.» There was cheap fake grass carpet. YUCK! I thought it was WAY too casual, almost like everyone was 18 or 19 years old in shorts. Drink prices were just all right. Let the highlight of your time be the wonderful Met itself, and stop by here for max 20 minutes. Unless you’re into the high school crowd.

If you’re looking for a posh experience above the grips of the New York City hustle and bustle the met roof top is my go to choice. The experience in itself varies based on the day/time you attend. Evenings: 20s/30s nyc evening scene. Great place for a date or a night boozing and ig photo ops. Packed with room to move Weekday afternoons: Pretty empty. But a really nice opportunity to look around and take in the beauty that is Central Park. Weekends: families, tourist, dates. Aka a zoo, luckily there are two bars that help relax any visitor.

Amazing! After walking around the MET we decided to come up here and check out the rooftop. When I stepped outside my breath was literally taken away. I think I stopped mid sentence because the view is just so stunning. Overlooking the midtown skyline and the gorgeous trees in Central Park it is literally amazing. They have a bar stocked with some specialty cocktails, wine and sandwiches. The prices are not too bad as they are the typical prices of the bars in the area. They have benches so you can chill, relax and enjoy the open view. This roof deck is seasonal so it will be closing at the end of this month(October). If you missed it this year I highly recommend you check it out next year!

This rooftop has a very beautiful view. It is not very high though(5th floor) so you cannot have a view of the park itself, but only the top of the trees and the buildings behind. The contrast when we look south between the high rise buildings and the trees is very particular, especially if you can catch the leaves color change during fall. We went on the rooftop around 3pm and it was not crowded at all. Also if you want to visit the rooftop without visiting the museum itself, you will need a ticket too. But good thing is that like in other museums of NYC you can pay the amount you want for the entrance.

Gorgeous views. The drink prices weren’t as outrageous as I was expecting, especially on a rooftop in NYC.

If you are looking for a great view of New York City, then the Met Rooftop Garden is the place to be! Keep in mind that there is only ONE elevator in the entire museum that takes you up there. Do not be like me where you get lost trying to find it! The elevator is located right next to the museum gift shop(across from the large black and white mural) and can be distinguished by the ropes and security guard surrounding it. Due to limited space, the museum will only allow a certain number of people to go up at a time so be prepared for a line(although it goes by very quickly). The Rooftop Garden Café is like a secret escape — it is incredibly trendy and provides a spectacular view of the city landscape. It truly leaves you in awe. Due to the limited capacity, it was not too noisy or overcrowded(which I found perfect). Take the time to appreciate the scenery or enjoy a beer($ 9), cocktail($ 15) or glass of wine($ 13) from the bar. The café also offers an assortment of sandwiches, salads, and sweets! I highly recommend and would love to come back for another visit.

This rooftop atop the Metropolitan Museum boasts 360 degree views of Manhattan — there’s no doubt the view is good! However, in terms of drinks, seating, service, it’s a little lacking. It could be a really awesome lounge to hang out and enjoy the view IF there was actual seating, tables, chairs, umbrellas — no such things up here, just a row of benches out in the open sun. No shade, no escape from the brutal heat in the summertime. And a huge middle section of the rooftop is blocked — supposedly an exhibit, it looked like rocks and shrubs to me. Why waste valuable rooftop space when there’s plenty of exhibit space in the museum? Drink choices are limited and expensive. No place to put your drink down for a minute, crowded at times when waves of people come up. I guess the point is to make the space as uninviting as possible to keep people moving. I’d say stop by to check out the view and grab a quick drink if you want to, but keep in mind, it’s not going to be a relaxing spot to linger.

When you get there, the view of Manhattan skyline just takes your breath away. I really enjoyed checking out this roof garden bar — it was nice and relaxing. The noise level is fine, there is no much place for seating but you can stand by the edges and admire the beautiful New York City view. My friends and me enjoyed the cocktails — I had the Aqueduct mocktail and it was so refreshing. A really good spot to relax and make a pause while checking on the artpieces from the Museum.

5 stars because of the spectacular view and because you don’t have to pay a lot to experience it. Going to the met there is an admission fee that depends on donation. And getting to the top of the roof garden doesn’t cost extra. You don’t even need to buy food or drinks to enjoy the view.
