History

Established in 2013.

New York Pilates is owned and operated by Heather Andersen. She certified at the Kane School for Core Integration and through the Gyrotonic National Headquarters. She loves watching people change their bodies, improve their posture and get more flexible. It makes her happy, and her clients happy too.

She also has a background in classical and contemporary dance as well as a regular yoga practice. So ask questions, she’d love to help you figure out alignment and efficient use of your body in whatever practice you have, be it pilates, gyro, yoga, ballet, running, lifting, rowing… whatever, get better and fitter!

Meet the Business Owner

Heather A.

Business Owner

Heather Andersen is passionate about changing bodies. A professional ballerina by trade, Andersen discovered Pilates while recovering from an ankle injury. Pilates became her passion and lead to her career as one of NYC’s top Pilates instructors.

After nearly a decade of working solely with private clients, Andersen opened New York Pilates in 2013 to provide her vast knowledge of movement and expertise on deep strength training to the masses in a chic, relatable environment that is up-to-the-minute cool, and at the same time warm and welcoming.

Certified through the Kane School of Core Integration, a student of Gyrotonic and a dedicated pupil of anatomy guru Irene Dowd, Andersen developed her method — Pilates based on modern anatomy and movement — Pilates for the 21st century. She has created intelligent workouts that are challenging and safe for the body, while provoking an intense body and mind relationship and a better understanding of movement, which can help prevent injury.
