Don’t go here– they don’t have time for you. I received one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve ever had here. I was picking out my glasses, which is an important purchase to get right. The technician seemed a little impatient and seemed ready for me to make my decision. I shrugged her impatience off and thought I made a good choice. When I received the glasses, they were a lot looser than they used to be so the same technician adjusted it for me. She made them absolutely crooked, deplorable. She fixed it a little and said the plastic was hard and she didn’t want to adjust them too much so I went home with them. They seemed fine for a little bit but they quickly became loose and crooked again. I called and e-​mailed to see if i could come in but no response. I went in anyway because they were driving me nuts and I was going on vacation in a couple of days. I waited an hour for her to finish helping another person pick out glasses. She helped me in conjunction with helping ANOTHER person. She seemed annoyed that i was there and she made it very uncomfortable for me. It was as if I was inconveniencing HER. This is where it really went wrong: after she adjusted the glasses, she had me try them on. Instead of waiting for me to take the glasses off of my own face, she ripped them off herself. SEVERAL times. It was probably the most humiliating and degrading experience I’ve had in my life. Who does this? Not a «Medical Professional» She didn’t end up fixing it either! She said, «oh, I wish I had more time» «don’t want to rush you» No, you shouldn’t. You should treat me like a human being, if not someone who’s paying hundreds of dollars at your establishment. So I left the office with loose, CROOKED glasses. She has no class. I then went to my other eye dr to have them fixed because I am never going back there again.

Was recommended here by a friend… bad choice. I met with Dr. Lewy who was okay. He walked through the process of what he was doing with me. The whole process seemed very rushed including speaking to the assistants at the front desk. They tried to charge me $ 450 for a pair of yearly contacts (granted I was a bit clueless with contacts as it was my first time switching to soft lenses so I wasn’t aware they were that pricey). When I asked for 2-​week disposables the assistant told me she needed to get Dr. approval, but the doctor left for the day (3PM?) and that she would need to call me after the weekend. I then asked for my prescription so that I could just order my own contacts online — I was rejected and was told I was required to order my first box through them first before they could give me my own prescription. (I was told this is illegal? They are not allowed to withhold your information). I eventually was «approved» to get the more affordable 2 week disposables. When I went to pick it up they did not offer to give me my prescriptions and I had to ask them where they responded that I would need to wait for the doctor to write one up. No problem, but you figure they would have this info ready when you come to pick up. It just all seems shady that they don’t like giving up the prescription.
Lastly I finally ordered the rest of my boxes of contacts online for MUCH cheaper. The online vendor reached out to the doctor to approve of the prescriptions before my order could be processed. I just received notification that the doctor DENIED it and said my prescription was NOT valid?!
Conclusion: Would not recommend. Doctor was ok, but not so sure about business practices. Shady with withholding prescription information and how they charge you.

I love that their unprofessional doctor made an unnecessary remark about my attempting to return to them after a bad experience. Full disclosure: I had been a happy patient of theirs for a few years and up until that final visit, hadn’t had a bad experience so I was trying to give them another chance. For the sake of my vision, I’m glad I didn’t.

Very unpleasant experience. After clearly telling the dr’s assistant (who maintains a blank stare when you speak to her) that I have a $ 10 once a year eye exam and would like to use that today and then repeating that to the dr before the exam. I was presented with a 50 copay charge because they decided to bill this as a specialist visit.
Dr was ok and answered questions, but did insist I come back in a week most likely to hit me up for another specialist visit.

Avoid this place at all costs.
Dr Stockman is congenial enough, but will perform several tests which are not covered by insurance. I was not made aware that there would be additional charges. I ended up having to pay my medical copay and my vision copay and 30 extra dollars for a «contact lense fitting» for a routine eye exam. At no point was I made aware of what tests were being performed or what they would cost. «Sit in this chair, sit in that chair, move over here, and you’re done.»
Next, I was passed off to COMPLETELY incompetent office staff who had no comprehension of cost/​insurance whatsoever. I am not kidding, they will not answer any questions about how many US dollars these items cost. I asked for 2-​week disposable contact lenses and they refused to give them to me saying that the Dr did not write a prescription for them (which was either an oversight or an outright lie as I had discussed that I wanted the 2-​week disposable lenses with the Dr and he said that would be fine). They were very pushy and rude tried to force me into the daily disposable lenses for $ 360 for 1 year. I ended up buying one month’s worth of dailys because I was just about out of contact lenses at this point for $ 30 + $ 8 S&H. They were just as pushy with glasses.
Later that day I received a call saying that I was undercharged and they would need to charge my credit card more that was agreed at the time of the visit. I refused and told them to send me a bill. The woman on the phone was very rude and refused me several times before relenting.
I will not be returning, and I would recommend to avoid this place

So so impressed and happy with my visit to Dr. Lewy today! I’ve been trying for years to find a good eye doctor in NYC, and I’m definitely coming back here. He’s super knowledgeable, and answered all of my questions thoughtfully and thoroughly.
I had gone recently to a Cohen’s for an eye exam, and was told after a 30 second exam that I didn’t need a new prescription, which I knew wasn’t true since I basically can’t see up close any more. I was so relieved to get a thorough and careful examination at NY Vision Associates, and to learn that I do indeed need new glasses. I also learned several tips I didn’t know for preserving my sight and eye health, which shows that Dr. Lewy really cares about long-​term health.
AND if that weren’t enough, he and his staff are so nice! Such a pleasure to find this place — I can’t recommend it enough.

Went for my second visit to see Dr. Jay Stockman this morning before work. It’s a little out of the way for me considering I live and work downtown, but I used to work in the area and had a great experience with him so decided to visit again to get an eye test in order to renew my driver’s license, but also because I needed some new specs.
Dr. Stockman is amazing, point blank. He is very personable and efficient — I was finished with my eye exam in 20 minutes flat (maybe less?). When it came to picking out my frames, Christina was helpful, laid back (in the sense that she didn’t mind that I literally went through about 20 frames) and most importantly honest! I was hoping to go for a more quirky look with bigger rounder frames and she bluntly told me that I look like a nerd and that a more square frame would make me look attractive and modern. I ended up going with one of her suggestions.
Their hours cater more towards the working professional that commutes through Penn and Grand Central, but my experience with them has been great so I will continue to return.

This started out as an ok experience but was the end of it was so bad that it quickly lowered the entire experience.
I saw Dr. Lewy, who seemed knowledgeable. He was quick and efficient but seemed thorough. He then shuffled me to his front desk staff who were absolutely intolerable. They told me I had to buy a pair of contacts from them. Their prices were too high, so I said I just wanted the prescription and would fill it online. After giving me a lot of lip about my request, the woman asked the doctor who said he would make an exception but I still had to get one box (at $ 25!) and that I had to pay a $ 40 fitting fee (per my insurance). I could understand doing so if I was getting a new prescription, but as it turned out my prescription is that same as it has been for 3 years!
To top if off, the woman then told me that I had to pay a $ 30 copay for the tests that done. The thing is that I didn’t ask for these tests and they didn’t tell me prior that the testing wasn’t included in my eye insurance. This is just not acceptable. I told the front desk person I would pay and she seemed to not charge me (we will see). The woman was extremely rude about the whole situation. I know I signed a form giving my consent to charge my health insurance if there were tests that were not included in the eye exam, but I assumed I would have been told prior to. I have never had an experience where tests are done outside the scope of work without being consulted.
The the whole experienc left a bad taste in my mouth. It felt very swarmy. I will not be going here again which is too bad as it is literally across from my office.
But not worth the trouble.

Dr Jay Stockman is a good optometrist, but there are a few things about the business practice that makes the experience very unpleasant. I believe I paid either $ 175 or $ 125 for their comprehensive checkup (which is a little high) but I think prices may be similar to most other optometrists in Manhattan. What’s frustrating is:
1. Dealing with the staff at the front desk. They can be fairly rude at times and possess inadequate knowledge about billing/​insurance. I had a vision plan once and they insisted that my contacts/​checkups were not covered. I had to prove to them that it was covered, then went through a tedious process of getting a refund.
2. The office hours are not practical. Their website states that office hours are 8AM to 4:30PM, Monday-​Friday. If you need to pick up contacts/​glasses, you’ll either need to stop by their office early in the morning or take a half day off work. I don’t know anyone who works in the city that gets off before 4:30! Of course, I had to pick up my contacts and decided to leave work early just in time to get to their office at 4:10PM to pick up my contacts. Once I arrived, I was told that everyone had left a while ago.
I don’t understand how the office is managed, and despite the professional and friendly service of Dr Jay Stockman, I’m still deciding if I would go back. Also, I would rate NY Visions Associates two and a half stars.

I’ve been going to Dr. Lewy for a few years now after a recommendation from a client for an eye doctor. After seeing a few eye doctors around the area and not being impressed, I decided to give Dr. Lewy a shot.
I never had an issue scheduling an appointment, and depending on when you go wait times can be a bit long, but Dr. Lewy, is nice and very thorough on his eye exams.
They’re also helpful with choosing out frames but are not so pushy to force you into purchasing frames there and hand over the prescription without any issues. I always do buy my contacts there out of convenience, but the turn around time is quick, and I don’t find the price to be outrageous on the contacts.

I’ve seen both Drs. Stockman and Lewy and found both to be thorough, gentle, patient, and easy to talk to. Not so the office staff, who make it oddly difficult to schedule an appointment. The practice’s web site has an online appointment request form, but the office staff does not reply to inquiries delivered via the online form! A Friday afternoon telephone call yielded not much better results; the receptionist said she didn’t have the calendar but would call back the next day; she did not.

I started going to Dr. Lewy a few years ago when a friend/​co-​worker referred me. He’s always been warm, professional and extremely thorough during the exams. I’ve never had to wait more than a few minutes for my appointments.
They’ve always been happy to help me pick out my frames and the one year I didn’t find anything I liked in their eyeglass boutique, they were more than happy to hand over the prescription to me so I could take it elsewhere.
I’d certainly recommend all my friends to see Dr. Lewy.

Their contact prices are crazy and they tell you they’re competitive. They also do not make it easy to get your contact lense prescription as it’s «against their policy.» FYI — this is illegal:
One of the women at the front desk is also a bit intense.
I had an appointment with Dr. Lewy and the quality of the actual medical exam seemed good and the wait time wasn’t too long.

Phenomenal thorough medical practice that has everything you need. They have a corneal specialist, a retinal specialist, regular eye exams. The most thorough eye doctor i’ve seen. Their offices are so buttoned up, from the front desk to the doctors. They even answer emails within 24 hours — the doctors answer themselves!
I am so thrilled to have met these guys and will gladly refer all my friends to them.
