Nightmare

This was my very first haunted attraction it was great but very short would do it again.

I was lucky enough to preview Nightmare 2012 last night, and boy, what an improvement! Tim and his team have definitely stepped it up in all aspects. I won’t ruin any surprises for you, but a few things to note:
–Great production value. The different rooms and «scenes» are built well and really make for a «real“experience
–The theme this year is scary! Real life serial killers are terrifying by nature, and they pay homage to some seriously freaky ones in this.
–The sounds are really great-​the first room you go in really sets the tone… I’ll leave it at that
–It’s a long walk through-​worth the money for sure. It’s a good 15 minutes of scare:)
–Speaking of scares-​a lot more this year. I jumped a handful of times, and I can be a tough critic!!!
If you’re looking for a great haunted house this year, and were disenchanted by last year’s Nightmare house, give it another shot. It truly was a great time, and this year should definitely win back some reputation points!

Nightmare is a huge waste of time. You get there, wait in line to be let into the building, wait in line to go up the stairs, wait in line to enter, and once you’re in, the experience lasts about 15 minutes.
Tickets are about $ 30 and they offer vip (skip the lines) options for much more. Essentially, this is a bunch of rooms you go through, some actors jump out, some might pick you out of the group of about 10 people and ask you to do something. Not really scary at all.
I guess it might be worth experiencing once, at least so you know what it is and at least you know where the bar is in terms of haunted houses in the city.
I would go again, but only if it were free.

This house is awesome this year because it incorporates the innocence of the edited fairy tales many of us grow up with — with the twisted dark side of their original incarnations.
This years nightmare is testament to why I love this partucular house! Its not a BOO! type place but more of a mind fuck. Cant wait to bring my girlfriend! (im so mean)

Total disappointment. Nightmare NYC has been getting progressively less scary in recent years. I’m not even sure how the fairy tales theme had anything to do with what I experienced. Sure when you first walk in they have you blindfolded, and that was a little scary, but once the blind folds came off… nada. The second part of the experience, «The Experiment», was so boring, we left Nightmare feeling drained and totally sober (what a waste of a $ 10 pre-​haunted house margarita).
They need to work on less of the arty theatrics and more on the terror. Not worth the $ 30 and long line.

Nightmare: Fairy Tales was legitimately scarey if you count the following:
1. The asbestos notification on the front door. It’s real.
2. The colon you had to meander your way through at the end. I now know how shit feels as it snakes it way though your intestines. It’s not pleasant.

I can’t think of enough negative things to say about Nightmare: Fairy Tales.
The organization of the line could not have been worse.
With the exception of one evil dog thing and a Dante’s Inferno reference, the props are pretty crap.
Just as you think you might be kinda getting into this, you are ushered into a brightly-​lit staircase to wait for a pretty weak scare show.
Oh yeah, and they re-​use the blindfolds.
Re-​use the blindfolds… in New York City.
I’m not even going to waste my time being snarky or funny about this. Don’t go.

Bought this deal off
for $ 15 and that should’ve been an indication right there that this was going to suck! Why would a place give such deep discounts if they were good?
Well… there you go, its because this hunted attraction sucks. It sucked harder then Jenna Jameson sucking a @#$% back in her prime. It sucked harder then a brand new Dyson vacuum cleaner. It sucked harder then a 5 year old sucking a sour apple lollipop. It sucked harder then … etc
They should really fire the big guy that played Rumpelstiltskin. He actually got physical with all the shoulder bumping and pushing. The worst part was him hitting your face (he was hitting your face pretty hard) with a fake heart that he’s been hitting the previous 1,000 «suckers» that paid for this place with.

I screamed, I laughed, I held onto my friends for dear life. I thought this was pretty fun, I haven’t been to their previous productions but I don’t think it was as bad as some of the other Unilocalers said it to be.
My friends did say that they felt the 2^nd part of nightmare haunted house felt disjointed from the first part. still, I was glad they had it, fun!

Oh Timothy Haskell — you have really, really, let me down.
I’ve been going to the Nightmare Haunted Houses for years now and they seem to be on a steady decline. This year was exponentially more terrible than the last.
Although I had a ticket for 9pm, I still, for some reason, had to wait an hour to get inside. They seemed completely disorganized about the entry system. My friends and I were steadily getting more aggravated and disappointed as the line to get in didn’t move.
Once inside, the house itself was a colossal disappointment. It just wasn’t fun or scary as it was in years past. I maybe got a good thrill about once, but I get more terrified on a daily basis going through the NYC subway system.
Sorry, Nightmare, but you’ve gone to crap.

Hilarious!!! I’m not sure exactly what it was but this was an awesome evening! I’ve never laughed so hard and then been scared two seconds later. I hate hate hate horror movies so I was hesitant to go. But after a few cocktails what could hurt. I don’t want to ruin it for you, but it was very surprising. The theme was ‘fairy tales’, only dark, twisted fairy tales. Pretty awesome. I wasn’t truly scared, but I was startled and extremely grossed out. Definitely a different evening. Good to go not knowing what to expect –you’ll have a great time

I have never written a review before but this time I absolutely have to. The worst $ 20 I have ever spent in my life! And it was a group of 9 of us! I regret giving them our time and money. I would love to get my money back it was that horrible.
It was not even scary. There were absolutely no scenes and not enough employees to scare us. NO ONE EVEN JUMPED OUT to try to scare me! It was a mess. My basement is scarier than that and it’s nicely furnished!

WHOA total disappointment in comparison to last years. It was even awkward at times when you had to be in the room listening to the actors perform with the sense that nothing scary would happen. Save for people grabbing at your legs and surprising you in the dark, there was really nothing scary. Some of the actors were not even great at popping out to scare us! This was very low budget compared to last year’s.
p. s. the «second part» of this haunted house was such a waste of time. Skip it!

Originally, I gave Nightmares only 1 star.
So why are they suddenly up to 4?
The reason behind my original rating was/​is rather simple: the line. We were supposed to be inside the house walking around and getting scared at 9 PM. We, however, did not even get inside the building till almost 10. By the time we were actually inside the «house» it was a quarter to 11 at night. Standing on stairs for over an hour and watching VIP’s walk past you off an elevator did not make the waiting experience any better.
BUT! Nightmares did come through last night. I had read on here that they try to separate you from your group, and boy were my fellow Unilocalers correct on that one! In one room, two of us were given a penny, one had heads the other obviously had tails. The person who had tails (yours truly) was brought to a different room (more like a box) that was pitch black with a man inside wearing a mask. He keeps you cornered for a good 5 minutes or so (it feels way longer) and by the time he lets you go, your original group has vanished and you’re now put with a whole new group.
I won’t give anything else away. It’s a fun experience. Scary? Ehh not so much, but it’s definitely fun.

A let down. Went October 2009. Maybe its better this year but I doubt it. It wasn’t long enough, no one chases you, the actors are basically just standing there. NOT worth the price.
Also, try not to go when Hot 97 or some other obnoxious radio station decides to be there. As we were walking through the haunted house I was forced to listen to whatever hip hop music they were blasting. It REALLY takes away from the scary factor.
I was truly disappointed, especially since this was NYC! Will not return.
There are PLENTY of haunted houses and theme parks in upstate NY that are cheaper and give you A LOT more bang for your buck. I’ve been to them all.

I went last year’s 2009 version of this haunted house. I concur with the other viewers that the Vampire museum theme last year was weak.
This year’s (2010) theme «Nightmare Superstitions.» It is an insane asylum where the patients are victims of superstitions (e.g. ‘step on a crack, break your mother’s back’). The theme (and continuity between rooms) is much more consistent than last year. There were only a couple of rooms where the set design or actor didn’t really explain what superstition was being portrayed. We had a great time. My most major complaint about this place is that it was EXTREMELY hot. If you go, wear t-​shirts and light weight clothes. Don’t bring the kids either. Some of the scenes were sexual. There was a 13 year old girl in our group. She was scared to death. Between the graphic horror and sexuality of some rooms, I didn’t think it was appropriate that her parents brought her.

Completely underwhelming.
Any place that advertises the Vampire Diaries at the entrance probably isn’t going to be very scary.
They sell you drinks right next to the line, then right before letting you in tell you drinks aren’t allowed inside. A-​holes.
The Vampire Museum was interesting, but not at all scary.
Don’t worry about the actors touching you– I was never touched by an actor once. It was all the morons who we got stuck with in our group. This douche with a sliver of a goatee and a popped collar would not let go of my shoulders, his feet literally on my heels, hopping about making noises like a wounded animal. I was very close to asking him if he knew where his balls happened to be.
When an actor gets close to someone in your party, that person is going to be someone who is easily scared. They can tell. Said scared person is going to RAM into whoever is behind/​beside them in a melodramatic effort to get away (in spacious rooms, there really is no excuse for this). These are the same people who scream while waiting on line.
You want the actors to leave you alone? Its easy:
Stand up straight.
Make eye contact.
Smile.
Let them move around you– don’t ‘give chase’
Don’t scream like prey.
Then some genius teenage hipster volunteers to ‘lead’ us through the ‘sewer’, but ends up blocking the only exit in a dark 5 by 5 room. Its hot, and there is no where to go. Finally she pushed through these inflatable walls, then screamed, «I can’t breathe! No seriously!» I tell people to start backing up, thinking someone really needs to get out. She was either faking or too stupid to realize she should leave because she did nothing.
And suddenly it was over. Everyone’s reaction at the end was the same, ‘That’s it?’ The whole thing is not long at all, and certainly not worth $ 30.

there is a very nice looking stripper at one point (probably the one saving grace of the night). SKIP IT!

Yawn. I wanted to get freaked the fuck out. I see these spooky things on the website, the little vampire kid eating a bloody piece of meat, yeah! Before I headed back to Long Island, I went downtown to see the show.
The beginning of the show was corny, the Vampire hostess tells us vampire lore. (She was actually kinda sexy with those fangs, I wanted to give her a love bite)
She moves us into a room that has some freaky vamps! After 10 minutes of the hissing vamps scaring you, I wanted it all to be over.
If you want to get freaked, Universal Orlando Halloween, will really freak you out. (The girl in the glass coffin covered in live rats? freaky…)
This was just. This would be good for a goof, if I was 21 and brought a few girls with me to seem them get jumpy. Other than that, save your $$ and rent The Exorcist.

The only reason this place is getting even 1 star from me is because the line coordinator was hilarious! We anticipated this haunted house for hours before even entering the faux «vampire museum». I love being scared. I love haunted houses. I love vampires. These three things should have made me love «Nightmare», but it was horrible.
I spent the majority of the 30 minutes in this place laughing my ass off at these awful actors. The strippers on poles, and creepy man in the corner beating off to them was a bit much (parents, don’t take your children unless you feel like explaining that to them). The actors weren’t scary at all. I laughed in one of their faces and he proceeded to follow me, completely invading my personal space. Oh and just a little note: THEY TOUCH YOU (sorry, not cool).
I found it to be ridiculous. If it weren’t for the 4 – 5 minutes we spent walking through complete darkness in a suction bubble of plastic, I would have asked for my money back. We were rushed from room to room. The sound was so weak that I was unable to hear the actor for the first three scenes of the house.
I wanted nightmares. All I got was a bunch of silly daydreams.
