This place should have four stars. I come here regularly on my lunch break and its always great. The spicy salmon crunch roll is delicious! Also I always get the eel avocado roll and shrimp shumai. Yummy!

I worked near the place for 4 years and ate lunch and dinner there countless times, both for sit down and take out. The interior is small but nice. The sushi and sashimi are extremely fresh and tasty and the cooked food is equally as good. If I’m back in the area will definitely go back!

The teriyaki was slimy and didn’t seem fresh. The wasabi they used was so hard I couldn’t even spread it onto my sushi. Overpriced for food that wasn’t so great.

Decently priced, decent menu. I had the salmon sashimi which was very fresh and the spicy tuna roll which I was pleasantly surprised to see a hefty amount of tuna versus rice. I will definitely be back. The staff was also very friendly even though I walked in a half hour before closing.

Fast, affordable, quality sushi in the Financial District. I don’t understand the haters(most of whom, you may note, did not even get sushi so serves them right). This is moderately priced sushi, and you get what you pay for. Don’t expect omakase for $ 15 or something out of Jiro Dreams of Sushi. Great lunch menu.

It was good sushi, not great. It works for my lunch time needs when I need a sushi fix and I need to be in/out in under an hour. Not a fan of dim lights; the place could work on their décor. Service was good. The waiters were attentive and fast with my order. The scaffolding outside does not help the establishment at all(I swear it seems like it has been out there for approximately 3 years!). I would definitely come back given that there aren’t any high quality sushi restaurants in the area.

This was a perfectly fine lunch spot if you’re looking for Japanese food. The prices are decent, the sushi was fresh, and the portions of fried rice and katsu don that I spied on other tables were big. The service was good, and there seemed to be quiet a few people enjoying their lunch.

The sewage smell and the other Unilocalers’ reviews should have tipped us off but my tummy was calling for lunch! The place was empty, the waiter was a little annoyed by our presence. We ordered and we ate. I’ve had worse. This is 3-star sushi served in a 1-star establishment. Moving on.

Very not-bad. 3-roll lunch(incl. salad or soup) came out to ~$ 16.50 including tip. Good, fast service. The sushi was tasty. It’s a good lunch spot for sushi.

Cute little sushi spot. Great interior, great service. Came for lunch — lot of seating available and my meal was served very quickly. Sushi lunch special of 2 rolls for $ 9.50(or 3 for $ 13.50) and the quality of the salmon was excellent. Everything tasted very fresh, and for the price and location — I’d say hard to beat.

Unilocalers who gave low reviews based on the fact that this isn’t the dining experience of their lives are just returded. You obviously do not understand the lay of the japanese-food land here in NYC. That’s like eating $ 0.99 pizza and poo-pooing it for not being like Lombardi’s or Grimaldi’s or Di Fara’s or L&B’s. You have top tier sushi places — those are the ones you compare with sushi joints in Japan, you vacation-dropping dumbass. Then you have the serviceable neighborhood joints. And then you have these places: serviceable lunch spots that vaguely resemble Japanese food the way Taco Bell resembles Mexican food. For what it is, it’s completely serviceable.

Had the spider roll and spicy tuna. Fish was fresh and the crab was over seasoned. …

Don’t know why this has a poor rating. Ordered lunch today and it was really good. Crispy tuna roll hit the spot. The gyoza was average though. But my friend and I both loved our rolls. They make everything fresh. I will be ordering more frequently!

This is not a Japanese restaurant. I ordered oyako-don but it was unrecognizable. Please learn how to cook Japanese food.

I need to be moved to write a review on Unilocal,so I usually only give 1 star or 5 stars. This is one of those 1 star places. I ordered lunch from here and the sushi items I ordered were covered in mayo and special sauce. Absolutely terrible. The last thing I want to eat is tons of mayo, which I hate but will tolerate a small amount with sushi. Perhaps their sushi is low quality and this covers it up? I also ordered the salmon terriyaki. The quality of the salmon reminded me of the salmon I ate at a hospital in Brooklyn. To be reminded of this while eating from a sushi place that should be serving top quality salmon was horrifying and I could barely choke it down.

I went with some optimistic expectations. I love sushi, and have had it in many places in the U.S., and most recently spent a week in Tokyo, Japan learning what proper sushi is. This is mediocre sushi. I ordered a combo roll special for lunch, which included a tuna, California, and something else. It also came with a choice of soup or salad, so I ordered miso soup. The sushi showed up, and then the waitress realized I hadn’t gotten the soup yet, so I had both at the same time. The miso soup itself was somewhat bland, and of poor quality. It just lacked the texture and flavor miso should have. The sushi was OK, but nothing special. The California roll tasted as though the ingredients weren’t quite ripe yet, but the tuna tasted like it was several days old and should have been thrown out. The pickled ginger was also clearly not fresh, browning in spots and with an off taste. I’m also fairly certain the wasabi was actually horseradish with green food coloring. I haven’t tried many sushi places in FiDi, but I definitely cannot recommend this one.

I seldom give one star when I write review. But, actually I don’t want to give no star to this restaurant. If you are the person who enjoys Japanese sushi style, this place will give you terrible memories. I wanted to eat Japanese style Udon, but this restaurant’s food was Chinese Udon(with Japanese name). Moreover, servers were not kind and even more!!! they graded thier own gratitude(maybe 18% ??)! What a ridiculous restaurant! I should have gone to the PapaJohn’s pizza or Subway across the road instead of this restaurant!

I came in to dine by myself, which I like to do once in a while. On this particular occasion I was also dragging some time as I had a time gap between work and an evening event in the area(Taping of Brad Pitt at the Schimmel Center for Inside the Actor’s Studio, no less). I was the only person in the small and cozy restaurant which I’ve visited on a number of prior occasions during lunchtime which was crazy busy and bustling with folks and chatter(too loud to even talk type of bustling). A few minutes later, another loner came in. Now we were two. While I was already on my Miso soup, she was looking through the not so cheap dinner menu at the other end of the restaurant. Before I knew it, another person came in by herself and was seated as well. All seemingly, were comfortable and happy in their silence. This one, however, looked like she was just waiting for her dining companion to join her, as two menus were placed on her table and she wasn’t about to order any time soon. Nevertheless, for those few short moments it was a scene from a noir movie. A dark January evening. An unusually warm atmosphere. «Three lone diners”– catchy, no? My two Naruto rolls, 5 pieces each, were handed to me(Crab @$ 13 and Eel@$ 13). Finally, foood! I was so proud for ordering so healthy. No rice even(albeit more expensive than I am used to). As I was gazing outside the window(I had the nice observation window seat) another person came in and headed straight to the table with the two menus. Our third loner, who was not alone anymore gasped and almost screamed: «Thank god you’re here, I was beginning to feel like a crazy person, sitting here by myself.» Yep, we all,(as in the other two people who were there comfortably by themselves), heard her. I just smiled and ordered a bowl of rice. True story. The End.

Okay, for what it is, where it is. Their space is fancier than I expected it would be, but prices were as-expected: not cheap, and on par with other sushi places in FiDi. If you live in the neighborhood, you probably won’t notice the prices anyway. Their beef negimaki($ 15; credit cards accepted) is decent, but won’t be winning any awards. In case you don’t know, beef negimaki is beeeeeef, wrapped up in scallions, in a teriyaki sauce. A bottle of sake helped immensely[1]. Their house spicy soup made me cough(in a good way), and there was a healthy amount of seafood in it, which made it actually worth the price of admission. [1] In case you care, I also added soy sauce and wasabi to my dish after eating a few pieces unadorned. But that’s only because I like soy sauce and wasabi.

A conveniently located sushi restaurant for a sit-down lunch in the heart of the Financial District. Quite a number of tables are packed into this modest space creating a bustling and loud eatery. Wait time during lunch hours tends to vary, but a table for two is usually available without a wait. Unfortunately, I tend to agree with other Unilocalers in that prices tend to be quite high. A lunch special of 3 maki rolls for $ 13 isn’t an attractive offer, when better tasting rolls are available in other sushi places promoting a deal of 3 rolls for $ 10. The food itself wasn’t bad as the rolls were made with less rice and more fish than other typical sushi takeout places. Overall, the experience is nothing memorable but it is sufficient to satisfy a sushi craving with convenience being a factor. On the other hand, lunch prices do leave something to be desired.
