On the mark is one of the best barbershops in NYC. Nice guys who do great work with hair. Nick gives especially incredible haircuts. 5 stars

Before coming to On The Mark, I cut my own hair. I started dating my current girlfriend a little over two years ago and she was having none of that, so it was time to find a barbershop. I have a simple cut so my number one criteria was cheapness. A haircut here costs $ 20. That’s it. That includes the warm razor shave on the back of your neck. At its busiest, I’ve had to wait about 20 – 30 minutes. I’ve never made an appointment with a specific guy there — just went with whoever was available. When I first started going, I didn’t know much about haircuts and I just asked for a trim. After a little while, I asked for something a bit more«styled» but still low maintenance. The guy worked with me and explained what he was doing enough that I knew what to ask for next time. I’ve now got a much firmer grasp on what my hair should look like and how to communicate what I want. They’ve even got me using some product, which I’d never touched before coming to OTM. The vibe is definitely a little macho bro-y which is so not me, but I enjoy it as a little journey into another clique if you will. I walk in and the barbers are all talking about going clubbing and refinancing their BMWs. There’s usually some kind of house or trance playing and a Fast & Furious movie on the TV. They’ve always got five or six guys working at once so don’t be discouraged if there’s a long line. Though they always give a quality cut, they’ll take a little extra time and care if the shop isn’t too busy. I’m leaving NYC soon and I hope I can find a place as good as On The Mark!

My husband and I stopped by around 12:30PM on a Sunday. Five chairs. All busy, but we had a very short wait. With only a few word exchanged, we both got great cuts. Exactly what we wanted.(I wish I had gotten the name of my barber, but Chris had Alberto.) Much talking and laughter among the barbers. Not sure of the native language(s!) but they were professional and attentive. We will definitely return.

Get a fresh cut at on the mark. You can trust these guys to do a good job. Could get an extra star for cleanliness.

Excellent cut, was very pleased with this place. They have a nice, cool environment. And you get a great style for a fair price. I had Mark, and I felt he did a fantastic job. We gave him some ideas and he executed what we wanted with very good skill. Overall, was impressed and will definitely return. Left happy and will be back again.

Great barbershop. Nick always does a great job and pays attention to details. Been to 3 other places in the area that don’t measure up.

This is my go-to spot for getting my haircut in NY! I’m very picky about who cuts my hair as I used to travel an hour and a half to see my barber when I used to live in Cali. I could always trust Nick to hook me up with a perfect haircut. You shouldn’t hesitate about going to On the Mark for a cut.

One of the best shops in the city! These guys are all very cool, know their s*#t when it comes to hair and have set up a nice place. Very reasonably priced for the city and they have liquor! Shots and a cut? Ive gone to the barber Nick a couple times now. He knows how to get the job done and tries to make sure youre happy with the cut. Very cool.

The first time I went, five stars, everything just so. This time, not so good, some unevenness at the front where he(unasked) shaved a little at the fuzzy edges of the side of my forehead. This barber mentioned having a hangover, took a call without putting down the clippers etc, all round won’t go back to that individual, but maybe will give the shop another try

Terrible shave. In fact, the worst shave since that summer in college when I taught myself to use a straight edge. I should have just gotten up and walked away when he managed to nick me with the first pass of the clippers. Instead, I sat there while he roughly scrapped a straight edge across my face, and walked away with razor burn along my entire jaw line(both sides) *and* a proper ½″ cut up by my ear. I’ve gotten shaves before, and yes, every so often you’ll get a little nick. All in the game. But this was just a straight-up rough, terrible shave. He didn’t even re-apply shaving cream before he went against the grain. I should have read the reviews more carefully. Virtually no one mentions getting a full face shave, and the only one that did gave them a terrible review. Judging from the other reviews, probably a good place to go for a haircut. But definitely go somewhere else for a shave.

Awesome Haircut. Fast. Super nice. Nice atmosphere and music. Not expensive. What’s not to like? I’ll definitely be back and will be recommending to friends. Go here and you’ll be glad you did! Great place.

Best find I’ve made in NYC. If getting a good haircut is as important to you as it is for me, you’d come here too. Been getting my hair cut by Nick for about three years now, and I have no regrets. Knows exactly what I want and gets it right every time. Highly recommend this place.

This place is the best cut, people, and barbershop in New York! Been coming here for for about a year now! Can not say enough great things about this spot… I come about every 2 weeks and have yet to have a bad cut or something I didn’t ask for! Mark and the team are extremely knowledgeable about what they do. Frankly I feel confident I could go to any of the guys and they would do amazing! However, I am a huge fan of Manny for his outstanding attention to detail, listening to what I ask(even if it’s crazy or in a photo or magazine) and always being awesome! Highly recommend this place!

I used to live 2 blocks away so I went in for convenience. First guy to cut my hair was Eli. I explained what I want, and he got it. WTF! When does this actually happen? I’ve had so many bad haircuts after I’ve taken in blueprints and 3d cad drawings. Moved to Astoria, been coming back to Eli for 3 years. If you want to chat, he chats. If you want to sit and be quiet, also an option. Regardless, you tell him what you want and he does it… every time. In 3 years, I’ve had at most 3 just ok, or good haircuts from this place. I usually leave with exactly what I wanted, which is pretty rare for a barbershop. Every time I try to get my hair cut at another place, I end up coming back. I sit in the chair, and he instantly knows. «I’m sorry». «No worry bro, same thing?». «Yes»

I’ve been going to On The Mark for 2 years now. They guys are friendly and all generally seem to know what they are doing. My barber is Nick and think he is tremendous at cutting hair despite his young age. I am a mid 30s Asian male and usually go with the sides and back shaved short(usually a 1 or 1.5) and top is a quiff/pompadour. I can confirm that these guys know how to cut Asian hair. This is the East Village so I see a lot of guys getting the trendy hairstyles like the disconnected undercuts(think Macklemore/David Beckham) and mohawks/faux hawks. The barbers are all tremendously friendly and like chatting it up. Don’t be shy in telling them what you exactly want. Bring a photo if necessary. Cuts are $ 20 cash(tax included) and I usually tip $ 7. I would recommend avoid coming in after work as it gets busy. In addition, if this is your first time here, take a seat and wait your turn and go to the first available barber when he calls out who’s next. Experiment to see if he’s the right fit. Note most of the barbers are Israeli and the shop closes on the major Jewish holidays.

For NY standards, this place is above average. The haircut for a guy is 20 $ without tip. I went there on a Monday afternoon at 3:30pm and I had 3 people in front of me, with 4 out of the 5 chairs being used. The space is nice, with some chillout techno music and a good vibe. Recommended

Always a great haircut at a very reasonable price($ 20). When its busy, they always have a staff of 5+ barbers to keep the line moving along nicely. They take appointments, so sometimes you think your next and some guy walks in and slips in front of you.

Continues to be the most consistent hair cut spot in town. $ 20. Yep. The even better part is that you don’t need to make conversation with anyone. It’s just business here. Hair cut, and out the door. Can take a solid hour to see anyone if you walk in. You can make an appointment but witness my scorn as you cut the walk-in line.

I think this has to be one of the best barber shops in NYC. My impression of these guys was that they really knew their hair and cared about how they made others look. I got a disconnected undercut and my barber, Eli, immediately asked if it was first time trying this style, just due to how my hair appeared. He walked me through everything he was gonna due and was very kind and patient, especially since hair-terms can be daunting at times. My cut was fantastic and I came away the happiest I’ve ever been from receiving a haircut. At $ 20 base, this is solid value for the cut you’re getting! Probably my go-to barbers from here on out.
