Came on 8⁄28 to see Pearl: Spring River Flower Moon Night. Great performance, and very interesting way to tell a great story of Pearl S. Buck. Spring, River, Flower, Moon, and Night represent different stages of Pearl’s life, and each were vividly presented to us with the help of the dance and projected background. It is unfortunate that the run is so short. Even with 30+ dancers on stage, the flow was smooth and almost magical, with the only glitch coming from Microsoft: the computer used to control the background display apparently crashed, and the Windows rebooting screen ended up being projected for a few minutes. What an embarrassment for Microsoft! It ruined an otherwise perfect performance!

Pearl is a new and very modern dance show. This show celebrates the life of Pulitzer prize winning author Pearl S. Buck. Pearl features a large and amazing cast of at least 30 Chinese and American dancers. Pearl’s story is told through the art of dance. The show is told in five symbolic stages: spring, river, flower, moon, and night. The show is composed based on a famous poem written by Zhang Ruoxu, «Spring River in the Flower Moon Night» which is about the passing of human existence. Pearl premieres at the David H. Koch theater in Lincoln Center with a limited engagement of only four performances. Hurry before it leaves.
