Petit Poulet

Unilocal let me down this time.
The ambience and the service was excellent. This review is for the food.
I had the croque madame, but it was so different from how it is supposed to be and not good. They used Texas Toast, the gruyère was was not a good one and overly toasted and had a thick layer over the ham so that it was very chewy. And béchamel on the toast adds nothing.

I went here based the recommendation of fellow Unilocalers. Once again they did not let me down. I was truly impressed from the moment I walked in. Upon walking in, it was dimly light and inviting. There is an open kitchen in the back of the restaurant.
A man, who later was my waiter, quickly ran to the front door to greet me.
I was somewhat surprised about my reservation when entering. I made the reservation through open table and the only reservation available was 9:00PM. I arrived early and the place was mostly empty. I do not know if they were short staffed and did not take many reservations, but I was somewhat concerned the place was empty on a Saturday night.
After being seated I was promptly brought water and menus. My waiter was just great. Very attentive and knowledgeable but not intrusive. He was friendly and glad to talk with us.
After ordering a dish of olive oil and bread was brought to the table.
For an appetizer we had the truffled hummus. It came with pita bread and mushrooms. The texture and taste of the hummus was great. The mushrooms made a great addition.
For a main meal we ordered the beef bourguignon and chicken in puff pastry. The beef was a stew type dish with a dark red wine based sauce. The beef was cooked perfectly. It pulled apart immediately and certainly was not overcooked. The vegetables were cooked to my liking and not overcooked as sometimes can happen in a stew dish. They were firm and had bite. The dish was full of flavor.
The chicken in puff pastry I could best describe as a chicken pot pie type of dish. Once again, the chicken was cooked perfectly and not dried out. The vegetables were still crisp. The sauce pulled it all together.
Throughout my meal the waiter checked on us frequently.
For dessert we went with the crème brûlée trio. It was everything I expected in a crème brûlée and a great way to finish off the meal.
If I have one complaint it would be that at times I felt rushed. I do not know if it was because it was getting late and they wanted to close but the meals came out quick. I was not finished with the hummus and they brought the main meal. This was not a major problem but I would have liked a little more time.
Appetizer, dinner, drink and desert came out to less than $ 100 before tip. An excellent deal for the quality and service.
Upon leaving the chef came out from behind the kitchen to say goodbye.
Overall they truly cared about the customer and their product.
I would definitely come back and highly recommend it.

After being told our original brunch spot was going to be an hour wait, a friend found this hidden gem close by. It was a pleasant surprise with great service, delicious food (that have big portions), and moderately priced ($ 12-​$ 16). Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a nice brunch place.

If you come here around 5:30PM on a weekday there’s not a lot of people dining, but after a few minutes the bar seats fill up. This is a very nice restaurant that’s employed with professional and attentive staff and of course, a great chief. Me and my friend both had the Steak Frites and a few glasses to drink. I was definitely happy with the service and the mouth watering steak. I must return!

On a recent trip to NYC for the holidays we stumbled upon Petit Poulet on New Years day while looking for a bite to eat. We seemed to be the first patrons through the door so we were a little wary but we were pleasantly surprised. I ordered a omelette and my fiancé ordered the french toast. Both dishes were great. So even nursing small hangovers we had a great experience.

I really enjoyed the atmosphere here. The interior design was neat and semi-​romantic and calm. The food options here were quite limited but the selections were unique and had a good range of items. We ordered the steak and the salmon and they were both cooked to our expectations. The sides to the entrees matched really well to its taste as well. The server Luis was quite attentive and gave us great recommendations. I’d definitely come back another time!

Ambiance: you can say there is a romantic feel to the place plus it has an open kitchen

Food: flavor is definitely there with the food… My friend ordered the scallop with squid ink linguini and I ordered the entrecôte, they were very accommodating in switching out the frites for pomme purée (thank you!) now is where my star comes off. I ordered my entrecôte to be medium rare however I received what was more a medium well, just slightly pale pink at the center. Because of this the entrecôte was a little tough but as mentioned before the flavors were fully there therefore I just sucked it up and continued eating. (I didn’t want to really send it back, what a waste of meat!) I understand that sometimes when we order certain degrees they might be off but, medium well is quite a few degrees off of medium rare. Maybe mine was just a one off entrecôte that was cooked to the wrong degree!
All in all I might be back perhaps to try their brunch.

I had a great lunch here today.
Ordered a business lunch prix fixe with a lentil soup with bacon to start and mussels in white wine sauce for entrée. Both dishes were delicious!
Had a crème brûlée chef selection which looked and tasted amazing!
Atmosphere was very pleasant and relaxing overall. Place wasn’t crowded or noisy for Monday lunch which I enjoyed.
My server Louis was very nice and helpful. He gave recommendations on food and wine, and served everything in a timely manner.
It was a great experience and I will definitely come back again! Thank you!

I had Smoked Salmon Benedict. The taste was so good. And then I had Cream brulee as my desert. I love the decoration of Strawberry flower! Also, the service was wonderful!

Petit Poulet produces pretty good French food at reasonable prices for Manhattan. The atmosphere was refined casual French bistro-​esque.
We started with the Foie Gras and Mushroom Mousse Pâté. This is served with a sharp full grain mustard, cornichons (baby dill pickles), grilled bread and a marmalade spread. This was a good dish. The Foie did not really play strong enough, but the delicate texture of the pâté, fresh bread, and accompanying spreads made up for it.
For my entrée I ordered the Beef Bourguignon. This is French Country Fare. It’s a hearty stew dish with a red wine based stock. Unfortunately, the stew meat was definitely not cooked to it’s full potential. It’s difficult to discern whether a braised meat dish like this was under or over done, but I suspect this was underdone. The cubes of stew meat still maintained far too much give back on the bite and did not attain the tender moistness I expect from a $ 20+ braised French country dish. I also suspect the root vegetables in the stew were not quite tender enough for my palate, though I admit that to be a matter of personal preference.
While the service was attentive and knowledgeable, our server was a bit snoody and short with us. An added level of warmth and hospitality would have been welcomed. Not simply because we’re paying customers, but because we’re fellow human beings.
³⁄₅ stars because the food was good, not great. The service also could have been friendlier.

We came here after our bridal party fitting in the morning so we were all in good spirits with voracious appetites. The popular spots nearby e.g. Friedman’s, Parker & Quinn were all booked for brunch, but reviews for Petit Poulet weren’t too bad so we made our way over.
If there is one cardinal offense I cannot overlook, it is that of overcooking poached eggs. Not just one, but all four were basically hard-​boiled eggs. But besides the two duck confit poached eggs dishes that are less than recommended, the veggie and 3-​egg omelets are safe, decently tasty choices with beautiful presentations.
The staff were all kind and patient, and even though it got quite busy around 12:30PM, they still found moments to check in on us. It is unlikely that I will be back, but I hope perhaps our duck confits were just anomalies to their usual food quality.
Notes:
— The restaurant is part of the Radisson Hotel. The bathroom is near the hotel lobby.
— Ambience is casual and cozy, especially in the wintertime.
— Despite what is written on Unilocal,the Unilocal check-​in gives you one chef’s dessert per table. They gave us profiteroles!

The food is delectable and the service, sublime. I heartily recommend the escargot and wild mushrooms in puff pastry, the Entrecôte Steak Frites (get the truffle aioli for the frites! You won’t be sorry!!), and for dessert, the Triple Crème Brulee (vanilla, chocolate and espresso). Fabulous attentive, knowledgable service. GREAT wine list, with lots of affordable and delicious choices. Sammy is the world’s best waiter!
I WANT TO LIVE THERE.

Another wonderful dinner at my favorite go-​to restaurant. The staff is awesome and Chef Dave’s swordfish special was delish!

While visiting the Big Apple I hoped to take my girlfriend to a nice romantic restaurant. Petit Poulet definitely hit the mark! Great food and great service located in mid-​town Manhattan!
You can tell that the owner and chefs put great care into making their food delicious and beautiful. It was my very time having duck served medium rare and every bite was amazing. The sweet potato purée was definitely the icing on the cake. My girlfriend had the streak au poivre which was great as well but I highly recommend trying the duck!
We ended the meal with glasses of apple brandy calaveras. If you’re in Manhattan and feeling like French food this is definitely the spot to hit. The prices are very reasonable and the food is exquisite. You will not be disappointed.

After busting my butt at the Staten Island Half Marathon, I was really hoping that there would be a solid brunch celebration after I had napped, showered, and returned to Manhattan. I was very happy to have found Petit Poulet’s Sunday brunch was available until 4 PM!
It’s a very classy little establishment, but they welcomed my wobbling, sweatpant-​wearing mess without judgment. There was a spiral staircase with an upstairs, and I would’ve loved to have experienced that level, but stairs were just out of the question. We actually had plenty of room — the restaurant was practically empty.
Service was extremely attentive. I don’t think I ever had an empty glass, ever.
I honestly don’t remember if there were any brunch specials, but I wasn’t really in the mood to get mimosa sloppy anyway. My two servings of Stella Artois were reasonably priced, and the overall bill wasn’t bad, either.

Clearly, after running 13.1 miles, the entire menu sounded like a great idea. But, I did my best to maintain some self control. I couldn’t decide between the pineapple crêpe or the vanilla bean french toast. I decided that vanilla was my flavor of choice — but it was a little bit underwhelming, honestly. I think it was just a more enticing way to label «your standard french toast entrée.» Looking back on the experience, I wish I would’ve gotten the «basket of pastries» — but now I have something to look forward to, right?
The only weird part about this experience was the bathroom, which is actually in the connecting hotel. It wasn’t the cleanest, but I guess you can’t blame Petit Poulet for that.

Would I go back?: Yes
Story: Midtowns always a tough spot to find good food — this is definitely a bright spot for this area. Came here for lunch with my co workers. Complimentary baguette was delicious soft inside crispy exterior — wish they would have served it with butter i feel like that would have been a more authentic french experience. Truffle hummus was good but it just tasted like regular hummus the upside to it was the mushrooms. Petite Poulet salad was delicious as well St. André Cheese, and pulled chicken made the salad. Service was a little slow towards the end to get us the check regardless I would definitely come back here for a work lunch or if a friend wanted to get lunch in the area.

I love this hideaway in the bustle of herald square. It’s a good getaway for a solid lunch. I have been here twice for lunch and had a great time. The restaurant is never very packed.
Last time I came in with a friend and asked for the booth but they declined saying it was set for 4. I found that ridiculous because there were only two other tables with guests and our entire time there the booths were empty.
The waiter was over ambitious and the type to try to take away you almost empty glass or entrée before you’re ready. Also too eager to take our order. It’s lunch and sure people are on the go but we were a group of two who were clearly on our own pace.
Both times I’ve had the chicken in puff pastry. I order it more for the delicious sauce and puff pastry combo and it’s amazing together. The chicken is okay and plenty abundant. My friend had the burger and loved it.
Come here to escape tourist areas and have a good meal.

Came here for dinner after a party. We had a 7pm reservation and arrived a few minutes later, but our table was still there!
We were served water immediately and menus were delivered. Shortly after, a plate of olive oil appeared with bread. The crust was a little burnt, but the inside was soft and chewy.
My boyfriend and I ordered a caesar salad each, mine with chicken. The lettuce did not have any texture, just wilted. The dressing had too much anchovy and was too overpowering. Additionally, the chicken had no taste. It was stringy and dry. The croutons were the saving grace.
We also ordered the crème brûlée trio, which came with the chocolate, traditional vanilla and cappuccino flavor. The chocolate was grainy and the vanilla was cavity sweet. I skipped the cappuccino because of the coffee, but my boyfriend said it was only okay. Overall, I was disappointed with the dessert because there was no carmelized top and it was in between temperatures.

Stopped in for lunch with my sister who lives in NYC. Very nice place, French bistro décor, excellent service, reasonable prices at lunch.
My sister had the «fish of the day» — a branzino filet which was very well received. It came with couscous and a spinach coulis. Excellent. I had the steak frites which was a hit with me. Steak was a good portion cooked as requested. Good fries. I would have appreciated a garlic aioli dipping sauce instead of ketchup — I saw it on the menu — so I should have asked. Came with a small salad.
Two entrees, two drinks, two espressos came to $ 75 before tax and tip, I was a happy camper.
At lunch they offer a two course prix fixe for $ 25 and a three course prix fixe for $ 27. I will need to stop by again.

A pleasant surprise, this restaurant (among many others) puts into question the stereotype that good food cannot be found near major tourist traps. In this case, Petit Poulet is within a stone’s throw from the Empire State Building/​Herald Square and is actually located inside the Radisson, with an entrance both from 33^rd and another one coming from inside the hotel. At first, I was a little disconcerted as I passed two shady businesses on 33^rd blasting loud stripper music before finding this restaurant right next door, but that quickly evaporated when I went inside the glass doors and was greeted with polite, courteous service.
We stumbled upon Petit Poulet after encountering a long way at another restaurant. In addition to the good service, our food came out super fast. We tried a pasta and chicken dish and both were superb. The pasta dish was filled to the brim with creamy flavor and the chicken with puff pastry had an excellent blend of earthy vegetables.
We tried a «yelp check in» dessert, which was good, but not as excellent as their main entrees. But it’s complimentary soooo… a girl won’t complain!
This is a lovely location to bring a date for a romantic, relatively quiet dinner.
If I was showing a friend around Manhattan, I’d probably bring him/​her to this restaurant for a nice sit-​down meal following a hectic day of sightseeing.
