Piccolo Cafe

Cute little hole in the wall amidst the hustle and bustle of Port Authority area. Stopped in to wait for a friend arriving by bus. Glad I did!
While I waited I had a latte and warm croissant. So good!
Once my pal arrived we shared an omelet, which I’m not quite sure constitutes as an omelet, as it wasnt grilled or folded. It was more like fluffy scrambled eggs topped with prosciutto and fresh mozzarella. Still it was quite good and ingredients tasted of quality.
Girls working were nice and welcoming. My only qualm was the annoying foreign radio in the background. Might wanna pay the extra money to get rid of the commercials.
I’ll be back for those croissants for sure!

All in all okay. Good food but very basic, got the parmesan omelette, the staff is not very welcoming or friendly, just uninterested:(Good people watching spot if you can get a seat in the window. Almond latte only good with splenda to hide the taste;)

Last week on Wednesday I was looking for a nice place for a quick light breakfast before our first business meeting. Piccolo Café was around the corner from my hotel. I decided to order a truffle omelette, coffee. Price was $ 10 which is a solid deal for this part of Manhattan. Who says NYC is expensive?
Omellette was light/​fluffy and smeared with a truffle oil/​butter. It was yummy. Salad with a balsamic vinaigrette was a good accompaniment as was the French bread. It made for a good light breakfast, precisely what I sought at 830 AM.
Space is very small and you are inches from the next patron. Space is limited here and not as place u would go sprawl out. However, food is very good, prices solid and service acceptable.
Will I dine here again? Of course.

Cute little café. Not much seating but the cakes and hot chocolate are great. If you get a seat you can people watch. Not far from Tines Square but so NOT Times Square!

Very tiny take-​out in midtown that never disappoints! My office used to be about 10 feet from here; I’m a block away now, and still make the trek regularly.
The menu is pretty large, but generally similar ingredients. My go-​to is any sandwich with fresh mozzarella and/​or prosciutto, which comes with a little salad; on snow days, I up the comfort factor and splurge on gnocchi. It’s a lot faster when you aren’t in line during peak hours, but I’m okay with a 5 – 10 min wait knowing they’re making things fresh.

Sandwich and coffee are awesome!!! And sweets is very tasty. But take out pasta was somehow very bad…
I ordered pasta for lunch and not only pasta was way over cooked but also tomato sauce was weird.

Decent Italian take out. Didn’t get a side salad with my meal, even though the menu board said it included one. Next time I’ll check the bag before I get home.

I ordered delivery and was horrendous. Ordered the shrimp and avocado salad, was just lettuce a bit of avocado and 3 v sorry looking shrimp! I also got 2 pasta dishes — the lasagna was overlooked pasta sheets and barely any meat, and the spinach ravioli was v bland. even the sauce seemed store bought. Was v v disappointed and will not be ordering from there again

Pretty good lunch spot in the Times Square area. Nice menu selection which includes vegetarian options and the prices are reason for the area. I would have given this place a five but each time I visit the service is a one star or below.

The pastries here are the highlight of this establishment! I love to come in for a quick cup of coffee (some of the best in the city. Move over Starbucks… ugh) and munch on their tasty cakes and tarts. Try the Madeleines or the Nutella tarts! Supposedly they’re homemade, I’d love to meet their chef and get the recipe!!!

Delicious breakfast sandwiches and coffees! We had the egg and prosciutto sandwich! YUM!
Coffee was perfect after a red eye flight. Service was friendly. Limited seating, but great people watching of commuters coming from Port Authority to the City, ready for a long day’s work while trudging through the snow. Only weird thing is that they have you pay at the end, but back at the counter. We accidentally almost walked out without having paid. Might be simpler just to pay when you order the food at the counter. Simplifies things. Definitely try this small chain.

Nice and quaint little coffee shop near Times Square.
It’s tucked by the new NYT building and if you don’t look closely enough you might just miss it. The space is small, with only a few stools for people to sit but it seems like most people who come here just order and go.
I had a cappuccino here and it was good. The folks are extremely friendly and they were really cool in terms of service. It was easy to see why this place is popular and the lines can get long. Either way if you’re nearby and want a decent cup of coffee, I strongly recommend this place!

The mocha is delicious, and the 2 meals for $ 15 is such a great deal. I got a salmon salad and a zucchini lasagna to share with my friend.
It was awesome and well priced.
It’s a really small place, but they actually have quite a lot of options and I will definitely be returning.

Piccolo Café manages to take something as mundane as a breakfast sandwich and make it into an exquisite dish.
I had never heard of or noticed Piccolo Café until I came across the Unilocal listing. Instead of getting one of their lunch sandwiches, I opted to check out their breakfast offerings. They have a lot of great options but I had to get the truffle egg sandwich. It was $ 9 but it was a delicious, flavorful sandwich (egg, greens, truffle pâté, tomato-​all on a hearty Italian flatbread) that came with a medium-​sized coffee.
The employee working there was also very friendly. Can’t wait to come back.

Not a fan… the tomato, basil, olives and mozz pannini was flavorless, I asked for arugula and there wasn’t any (that would have at least added some oomph). It also wasn’t pressed and my tomatoes were just cold and slapped on.
They also don’t have whole grain bread as an option.
The black bean soup was good, but its really just black beans & some seasoning so don’t expect some new pow– which one wouldn’t in ordering a simple soup for lunch, but still.
I’ve had a good experience previously. But still, everything I had lacked salt.
It’s just ehh. Not that bad for $ 7 for ½ a pannini (well, not really that), and a small soup cup.

There fantastic food has driven me here about 30 times this year. There Italian Spicy Sausage is amazing my favorite here; there Bufala Mozzarella, basil, tomato, Gaeta olives is great!
Also the pastas are great. So far my favorites are Tomato basil & fettuccine alla Bolognese.

So far, so good. I will most certainly be coming here for lunch again because they give you a frequent customer card where every 6^th lunch is free… UM awesome! The quality is great. I ordered the signature ½ turkey panini with pea soup for $ 7. Sweet deal if you ask me. I enjoyed the sandwich a lot, but really can’t describe it all too well. It was like chunks of fresh turkey in a light creamy yogurt type sauce. Tasted like a healthy chicken salad. The pea soup was a little boring, but it had a good thick texture and didn’t taste too salty.
This place is cramped, but if you’re eating alone there’s probably at least one lingering chair to sit at.

Just came here for lunch today! My friends were visiting from Philly and gave me the following points to choose our lunch spot: cozy, cute, sandwich/​soup, cheap, near Midtown. Living in Midtown, I know there’s really not that many types of those establishments around here… so I turned to Unilocal.Thank goodness I found Piccolo on the way to meeting my homies.
It was perfect from the beginning — super sweet and helpful staff and a super cute little restaurant, hidden and tucked away in the middle of the busy Port Authority area. There’s counter seating for about 8 inside the restaurant.
I had the any (except lobster) half panini and soup (of the day) combo for $ 7 — steak panini and lentil soup. I cannot stop talking about this lentil soup — it was so darn good! It was hot, hearty, and definitely hit the spot. The steak panini was delicious with the crispy bread and the avocado and kick of hot sauce. Steak was tender and not overcooked. It also came with a side of greens with balsamic and oil.
This is my new favorite lunch spot… so excited.

Get a sandwich, because that must be what’s so good about this place. Despite the good reviews, I found their soup, salad and omelette to be very disappointing.
PESTO OMELETTE: Awful. Really. The omelette was a hard, rubbery overcooked half circle that looked like it had been made in one of those countertop appliances, like a sandwich maker or a quesadilla maker. It was significantly worse than what you’d find on a free hotel breakfast buffet. The pesto was also really strange. Not pesto-​like at all. It was a very finely pureed green liquid that had almost no flavor and looked unappetizing on the top of the egg.
SIDES: The salad, sliced tomatoes and toast that come on the side of the entrees were really nice. The sliced bread, which was toasted and drizzled with olive oil, was actually very good and definitely the best thing we ate here. But that is unfortunate, as it was a accoutrement, not the actual dish we ordered.
CARROT POTATO SOUP: While not bad, it wasn’t great either. The flavor was mildly vegetable-​ish; it could’ve used some serious seasonings (or at least some salt). The carrots and potatoes were very finely minced — no chunks of anything but not smooth either — a strange in-​between.
MIXED GREENS SALAD: The salad was supposed to come with apples, goat cheese, mixed nuts and balsamic vinaigrette. It was served with apples and sunflower seeds. No dressing. No goat cheese. No mixed nuts. By the way, it was 10 degrees below zero and we were the only patrons in the café, so this oversight could not have been from being too busy. After the goat cheese and balsamic was added (still no mixed nuts), the salad was nice, but definitely not a lot of food. I was starving 2 hours later.
