Granted, not the friendliest customer service, but the pizza made up for it. Ordered the 16″ pepperoni with mushrooms and fresh basil. Waited less than 15 minutes for that fresh piece of yumminess. The only thing is that they don’t have packets of red pepper or Parmesan cheese. Is that a Cali thing? We had to open up the lid of the in-​store containers and help ourselves to a little pepper.
We took this bad boy back to the hotel room and it took us to places we’ve never been before … no, but really. We took it to go. There is a dining area.

The best pizza on the UWS served by some of the friendliest guys around. This place is awesome!

Pizza cravings satisfied.
This place is tiny and serves really good square slices. Each sell for $ 3.75 but they’re a good size and range in toppings. I tried the «Diavola» which wasn’t spicy at all but was very tasty. I know it was topped with a «spicy» cured meat and brocollini. My friend also ordered a square with fontina cheese, mushrooms and prosciutto which was very good.
This spot is hidden among some of the more modern restaurants on Amsterdam but if you don’t have the time or just want a quick bite then the pizza here is a good choice for sure.

Hands down best pizza in town! I love this place. If you enjoy amazing food, you need to come here asap!

Ok pizza, very small place (better for takeout), dirty tables, sleepy employee pretty much sums up my impression of this place

This is probably the best pizza place on the UWS, if not NY.
Why? — u ask… because the pizza truly is a work of art here… Now, I have only had the plain and white slice here but I cannot help but marvel at some of the smaller points of pizza-​making seem to be taken very seriously here, for instance:
* the coating of cheese/​topping is remarkably even all around the top.
* there is a very little part of the outer crust exposed (i.e. without the topping). That makes the whole pie edible to me because I don’t like eating bare crust
* the pizza is cooked to perfection… seriously, the crust & the bottom is just hard enough to hold its own weight but soft enough to be bitten off easily … this is not true for most NY pizza where the bottom ends up getting burnt and scraping the inside of your mouth … this really is a big deal for me.

Eh. It’s okay.
They have both round and rectangular pizzas. I got the boscaiola (mushrooms, porcini dust, mozz, ricotta). Came out nice and crunchy but a little on the bland side. When I asked for additional Parmesan to sprinkle on top they told me it cost a dollar extra.
What…
I dunno. IF your pizza is tasteless you better provide that shiz for free!!!
They do have 25% whole wheat and gluten free pizza crust though for those inclined

The Sicilian slices here are quite good. The pepperoni, the potato and the sausage ones are really good and would highly recommend. The whole-​wheat crust also adds a good touch to the whole pie as well. There ordinary (round) slices and pies are average so I would stick with the Sicilian. One of the better pizza places in the UWS.

Called after over an hour wait and the man answering the phone said «I’m not a delivery boy, how should I know how long it will take?» Really? Wow. Their gluten free pizza is not the worst but if the bar is set this low I can only imagine what else is met with such an attitude. On the plus side, I suppose it makes me slightly less sad that I couldn’t get tickets to Waiting for Godot.

I ordered several boxes of pizza from here for my daughter’s birthday party. The pizza was okay. It was nothing to write home about. I find them to be on the expensive side. Let’s be honest it’s just pizza. It’s not a porterhouse steak for goodness sake. I have paid way less and had better tasting pizza. NYC is one of those places where you don’t necessarily have to pay through the nose to get quality goods. Real Estate is the exception to that comment.
One thing that annoyed me was that after the counter guy ran my credit card through. He never gave me a receipt. I was on my way back to the venue when I realized he never gave me a receipt. Why not give me the receipt the same time you give me the copy to sign? When I went back he had thrown the receipt in the garbage. He had to go through the garbage to get it. Here’s a thought. How about offering people the receipt? If they do not want it then you can throw it out. You think.

I… dream of this pizza. I wish I could smuggle some back with me to Canada. But that would be illegal. Sigh.
So, yummy. And very delicious gluten free crust — unlike any I have tried.

Rarely am I genuinely surprised by food. Even more rare is a great surprise by a pizza place. Virtually every pizza place claims to have the best pizza. All to often it’s more of the same with slight variation. However, the first vote into this pizza, called the Diavola, was perhaps the greatest excitement in food that I have had since I discovered how good sushi is about 10 years ago. The flavor a at amazing, the crust is light and crispy and it just made my mouth come alive. You have to try it!

Our new go-​to pizza delivery in the neighborhood. Beautiful pizzas, delicious flavor combinations, excellent crust. Authentic and satisfying.
Even though there are plenty of good slices on the UWS, delivery is usually a toss-​up — Patsy’s, Dean’s, Rigoletto, Traviata, etc are all hit-​or-​miss, and Fratelli La Bufala doesn’t deliver to our street. La Grolla is the first consistently good pizza we’ve ordered. Looking forward to checking out the actual venue sometime.

This is my first pizza stop in NYC so that’s why I give it 4 stars. The pizza was fresh and hot. The sauce was tasty and it was the good kind of salty. We wanted to do the typical NY pizza thing so we ordered it to go and ate it walking down the street. We felt pretty happy and very satisfied. I definitely want to go back and get another slice.

So close! This pizza place came so close to finally being a really great pizza place on the upper west side. The upper west side is virtually a dead zone for good pizza places so I had high hopes.
To be a really good pizza there are three key factors it needs to pass: cheese, sauce, and bread. I got the regular NY pie and I was about ready to crown the slice a winner until I tasted the bread. For so much effort to go into the other two factors I could not fathom why they skimped on bread quality. I don’t know if it was the 25% whole wheat that went into the bread but something was off. The bread tasted like the soft, spongy bread that is used in frozen pizza that you buy at the grocery store.
So sad because this pizza was almost there but not quite. I loved that they offered roasted garlic as a topping. I had also ordered the margarita pie and the bread was no different unfortunately.
I would probably eat here again because it’s really the only game in town when it comes to upper west side pizza.

Recently went to Pizza by La Grolla after a nearby birthday party at Jake’s Dilemma. Apparently, someone had the munchies and the thought of getting a lobster roll at Luke’s wouldn’t cut it. So, I turned to my trusty Unilocal mobile app to see what was nearby and what other die hard Unilocalers may have reviewed.
After finding this place, I strolled in and noticed that it’s a tiny place. There’s only 4 tables seating 2 inside plus a couple of stools by the wall in between the beverage refrigerator and the counter.
At the counter, there’s the top shelf pizza, which is the sicilian slices that are their more gourmet offerings. The regular slices are on the lower part of the counter and more to the back, clearly they are treating them as much less important and something that the customer should not be sold.
From the top shelf, each pizza pie is individually labeled by the name and the ingredients used to cook. I selected the Diavola which had Spicy Calabrese, Brocollini,
Mozzarella, and Tomato sauce sold for $ 3.75. I ordered it, then put it in the oven. Minutes later, I devoured it. I really enjoyed the pizza, they cut it nicely into 4 squares, each of them getting a slice of sausage each in my case. These gourmet pizzas are made with 25% whole wheat, so it’s a little bit a healthy for you. It’s definitely not as oily as a regular slice of pizza.

Suffering from a minor case of the munchies after coming from a birthday party at Jake’s Dilemma in the UWS, I came across Pizza by La Grolla. A very small pizza shop, this place appeared clean and new. It was certainly more appealing than just your standard pizzeria. Luckily, it was rather empty at the time, and there were seats available. We took a peek at the slices on display, and they had a very good variety, more than you’d expect to see at such an odd hour of the evening. I decided to go with the Affumicata while my guest ordered a slice of the Diavola. The Affumicata is topped with eggplant, smoked mozzarella, Parmigiano, and tomato sauce. The Diavola is topped with spicy Sopressata, broccoli, mozzarella, and tomato sauce. Both pizzas were surprisingly very delicious. The crust was soft and had the right consistency. The toppings tasted wonderful. At about $ 3.75 a slice though, it’s not what you call the cheapest pizza around the block. However, the pizza reflected a definite level of quality that you just can’t find at many pizza shops open at a late hour.
As a side note, for those who are conscious of the details and look for healthier alternatives, they have slices with 25% whole wheat built in. They also offer pies that can be ordered 65% whole wheat, or full whole wheat. There are gluten-​free options as well.

Hungry, I spontaneously got a hearty slice of pizza from this storefront. There is seating, but it doesn’t necessarily have the ambiance where you’re going to want to kick back for a while.
In fact, I needed to jump on the bus, so I waited for my pizza — quick service! — and hopped right onto the M7.
The smell of my Diavola slice (Sopressata Calabrese (spicy), broccolini, mozzarella, and tomato sauce) took over, and even though I was standing on the bus, I had to take a bite.
And another.
And another.
Yes, I devoured the slice on a crowded MTA bus, and I can tell everyone was jealous.
Or if they weren’t jealous, they just had no idea what they were missing.

Gourmet pizza for the UWS! Yay!
I think I’m addicted to the texture of the Carciofo (whole wheat artichoke and ricotta pizza). There’s something about it that’s really pillowy and crunchy at the same time, just melts in my mouth. It isn’t the tastiest pizza I’ve ever had, but I always find myself craving it.
Service is always friendly, and I love that the guys cut up the pizza slices into fours for easier munching.
