Great quality sushi for the price. Byob is great with wine and spirit store across the street. Like how they serve the rice bit warmer like Sasabune. Best sushi joint on upper east along with Seki, Gari and Sasabune and probably best valuez

This is a must every time I visit NYC. I just love this place. I love that it is elegant and classy and not another ‘casual vegan place’ — that’s a hard thing to find in the vegan world. I love that you can get ‘1st flushed Darjeeling’ Tea or a Soju Mojito. All of the food is so fresh and presented delightfully; the stone bowls are my favorite — although I often have to narrow down my choices over a duration of time as there are so many wonderful items on the menu. Finishing off the meal with a nice black sweet rice and coconut pudding leaves me feeling completely satiated while still feeling amazing. Highly recommend — and plan to make reservations

My favorite sushi spot! Tuna bomb is the bomb! The sushi is always consistent, and fresh. I don’t think the pictures on Unilocal do this place justice. Often there is a wait, but it never fails please. BYOB is a huge plus as well.

If you are looking for«poke», which is from Hawaiian and is popular in LA, this is definitely not at all. They are selling Japanese style food, such as sushi. They have a 18 dollars minimum in store and it’s CASHONLY.

Great fresh sushi! I’ve ordered the sushi pizza a few times and each time it’s different but definitely still good! Its BYOB and there is liquor store conveniently on the corner of 1st ave. Heads up they only take cash, closed on Sunday’s and are usually busy so call before!

Visiting from MI and was drawn here by their reviews on Unilocal. We came primarily for desert as my daughter always wanted to try Mochi ice cream. It was so good. So different from any kind of ice cream we had ever had. A trip to Poke would not be complete without it. They were very busy when we went, and were busy even when we were just walking by. Yet, the service was accommodating, quick, and friendly. I stress the friendly part, because we clearly looked and dressed like outsiders, but were treated like insiders and made to feel welcomed. As for the busy factor, I think that is very telling, as many other restaurants looked deserted at times. There were many couples(looked like a great date stop) and groups of friends or perhaps co-workers. I didn’t see any children, except for my own(teenager). The ambiance was classy, minimalist, a little cramped even, but that added to the experience for us as we chatted with the couple seated next to us. If you are uncomfortable dining very close to strangers, you may not like Poke. It is intimate, but not private by any means.

Great delivery service and very good food, including a new fave their tuna bomb which truly is the bomb. I saw this place on Unilocal and chose a few dishes based on pictures: — tuna bomb– bam! So amazingly good. Fresh tuna, atop a spicy wasabi infused mix. I want to keep this place bookmarked just for that and — spicy miso soup. Amazing kick and great for the cold I have — California hand roll– so good! And love the hand roll which I had not had before — shumai — good but not as impressive as the above — truffle salmon roll– I love truffle oil and salmon sushi so when the man working the phone recommended this as a roll I was eager to try — But I was underwhelmed as the roll/bites were small and the salmon was a soft puréed mix(like spicy tuna rolls) which I personally do not like. Highly recommend for the tuna bomb alone! And great delivery service.

Restaraunt owner should truly be embarrassed about the quality of their staff and their sushi. Been going here for many years, the sushi was incredibly fishy this time around and they refused to fix an order they messed up. The waitress was furious and blew heavily on our open food on the table. Made me sick to my stomach. I am telling all my friends and everyone I know about all of the other wonderful sushi spots near poke.

Very disappointed with the service and food tonight at Poke. Firstly, the waitress was having a bad day. She had an attitude and after taking my order incorrectly and bringing me the wrong roll she would not give me what I ordered. She huffed and puffed on our table and the 5 of us could feel her negative energy. Instead of just apologizing and bringing the roll I ordered she was smug and walked away leaving us unattended for the rest of our meal. We ordered 15 rolls and 4 apps, you would think they would care more about the way they treat customers. No one was really impressed with any of the rolls and the tuna pizza was so different then the way I remembered. I think they changed chefs because it tasted like a totally different dish. It used to be a thin crunchy pizza this was thick and had the texture of a pita. It used to have spicy mayo and mozzarella on it this had one tiny pc of mozzarella only in the center. I told the waitress I didnt like it and her response was«well thats what you ordered» what kind of answer is that?!! Overall dissatisfied. I even asked to speak to a manager but she just sent over another waitress to speak to me. That waitress agreed with me that I had every right to speak up and that it is not normal to treat people that way. Im so upset because I used to live right around the corner and eat here all the time. Our bill was 207 $ not including tip which we hesitated wether or not to give her anything. How will you ever make it up to me poke?!

Nice place, good food but not as good as the hype outside this place. i mean the food is good but nothing crazy, the drinks menu is very limited and you need to bring your wine with you. the service is OK and half the guys don’t really speak english. what is very annoying is that they will mix wassaby into every roll with out asking you or inform you, so if you don’t like wassaby make sure to mention that otherwise you are up to a nasty spicy surprise… just like i had. i dont think i will come back, so many other joints around here so i will probably will keep looking.

Great little sushi spot on the UES, couple of things to note — — No alcohol is served, although they are very friendly for BYOB(only beer/win, no hard alc) — Cash only! The sushi itself was reasonably priced, good quality, and the service was very friendly! We had like 6 different people wait on us and all of them were really nice. Easy to get a table, we went on NYE and walked right in for a table for two. I got the california roll(I know), but it was actually very good. When you order rolls it doesn’t come with rice/soup/etc(which I prefer!). The ambiance is very ~cooOoOL~, white table clothes, bouchy looking decorations, etc.

This is a neighborhood sushi spot on the UES. I have been here several times and the food has always been quite good, definitely a step above standard NYC sushi places. Also, this place does not serve booze and is BYOB. However, I was recently here as part of a group of 3 and we had to pay $ 20 in order to open our second bottle of wine. I found this odd, but then again I really don’t know if this is standard at BYOB places or if it is applied based on group size, etc… Finally, my main reason for not giving this place an extra star is the fact that they don’t take reservations. I have never understood why restaurants choose this policy and will often go somewhere else where I can make a reservation and not have to worry about an unpredictable wait time. As there often is a wait here this would make a major difference.

Hidden away sushi spot on the UES with a warm, inviting atmosphere and very fair prices. The peppered salmon salad is deliciously fresh with pieces of thinly sliced salmon atop a bed of greens. The sushi has generous helpings of fresh fish and is very tasty. The restaurant is byob, but also family friendly. Great food, atmosphere, and pricing, definitely a go-to place for Japanese.

One of the most underrated sushi places in New York. It is SO good, the fish is always fresh, the flavors are amazing, and the specialty rolls are fairly priced. AND it’s byob, no corkage fee. Highly recommend you sit at the sushi bar, and order the tuna bomb(off menu item).

We visited here with our daughter and her boyfriend who live in the Upper East Side(and visit here frequently! The décor was great, nice white table cloths and a cool vibe for a sushi place. Service was prompt and our water glasses were kept full. But onto the great stuff… Sushi!-The roll choices were plentiful. We let our«kids» choose their favorite and they did not disappoint. We eat sushi often and this was very fresh. This place is a BYOB and in NYC that is a wonderful option. They allow one bottle for every two people, so we brought two!. We actually saw a group with a small ice chest(beer?). For all the reasons above this place is packed and usually has people waiting outside. At 8pm on a Saturday night, we had a 45 min wait, but it was so worth it! Also, this is a CASH only place, so make a stop at the ATM on your way here! We will make this a regular stop on our visits to see our daughter!

What’s left to say about Poke? They have phenomenal sushi for great prices. I love their BYOB policy, and though the cash-only policy is annoying, I suspect it helps keep prices low for such high quality. I usually get the sushi special for maximum variety and freshness. My husband goes absolutely bananas for the truffle roll… I was highly suspicious at first, but it’s actually really good. Who knew truffle oil had a place in sushi? I love this place! Fantastic sushi in a casual setting.

Poke is so much fun. BYOB lets you bring whatever exciting adult beverage you’d like and adds to the atmosphere. I took my Japanese mom here and she totally approved! The homemade tofu with uni is literally in my dreams it’s so good. The sushi rolls are great and fresh I’m a big fan!

POKE is awesome! Located in the UES and BYOB! No cork fee for our 1 bottle of wine :) The sushi was on the smaller side but still very tasty and affordable(you may just have to order a couple appetizers and/or multiple specialty rolls). Golden 8 pieces) was good, it had fresh tasting salmon on the outside with a spicy mayo drizzle and the inside was a crab mix. Even better was the Volcano roll(6 pieces) with fried calamari on the inside! It was perfectly chewy and large pieces! The California hand roll was basic but still good. The shumai(like a mini version of a dumpling) was really good too, I’m not sure if it was shrimp filling or another seafood but it was very mild tasting and delicious. The red bean mochi ice cream was my fave! It was smooth and sweet and the rice that enveloped the ice cream was textured and unique. It looked cute too!

Solid sushi place on the UES. I love that they are BYOB; less thrilled that they are cash only. The rolls are cut smaller than I’m accustomed to and they give 6 rolls instead of 8 rolls for the basic maki. The fish is fresh and the restaurant is lively. They have a delicious seaweed salad. I think they are overpriced, but it seems they can get away with it. It won’t be my go-to sushi place, but tasty nevertheless.

Big fan of this neighborhood gem. My fave friday night activity is to dine at Poke. Service is always good, and food quality never falters. My only wish is that they had a different shumai(but in a way its good that I don’t love it there because it saves me from ordering it!). My faves(though everything is delicious): Spicy Scallop Roll Kamikaze Roll Dynamite Roll FYI — its BYOB and cash only.
