Roastown Coffee

Line was too long at sbucks across the street, so gave it a whirl, coffee was so-so…had an iced flavored latte so to mask if it was really as bad as the reviewers claimed…

Do people not watch or know about Restaurant Impossible and all those new restaurant stakeout shows that talk about serving bad food? haha. Came here for a chicken teriyaki and forget that, not ordering again! However, I am also fair when it comes to these reviews so I must say that the fruit smoothies were AWESOME!!! SO FRESH! Whoopah! Even though the food was bland, will give the other stuff a try next time. The breakfast menu seem ok and the coffee selections seem good. Diners looked like they were regulars so I guess there’s gotta be something people are coming back for, right! It is what it is!

I went to get a toasted bagel with cream cheese this morning. The toasted bagel didn’t really seem toasted, just kinda warmed up. Apparently they don’t have a real toaster. It’s just kind of heated above a stove. For a bagel and cream cheese at $ 2.49, you’d expect it to be at the very least toasted. Please get a real toaster! Coffee is okay though, haven’t tried anything else.

They make great coffee at a reasonable cost. I usually go with a latte and their pastries and breakfast sandwiches are good too. They also do veggie/​fruit smoothies which I haven’t tried but see many people get them. One of the better places for breakfast in the area that aren’t Starbucks/McDonald’s.

You get what you pay for.
I went there for a whole wheat bagel. It was too bad for words. Oh how I miss the stir café’s whole wheat bagel with butter/​cream cheese.
The way they operate is unique in the way that you would not want to eat after you see them cooking/​heating up the food for you.
I am never going back again.

Stopped in for a Chai Tea Latte. It was fine but not impressive and the service was slow and unfriendly.

Cool & modern décor & setup. Fresh juices, non-​fat self-​serve frozen yogurt, baked goodies, teas, coffees, salads, sandwiches, and fresh soups. Everything seems very fresh and clean. Good for quick bite, or cool down during the summer humidity. Yikes this week… sticky!
Today, my exit from that beating sun — a fresh carrot and apple juice. Yeah, that hit the spot.

Thank the Caffeine Gods that Roastown was just a short walk from the hotel we were staying at in Chelsea. I’ve never cared for the bitter taste of the Big Corporate coffee purveyor just across the street from Roastown, thus we gave Roastown a try and found it to our liking.
Also tried a couple of the egg sandwiches they make to order on really soft rolls they toast… it’s a better egg sandwich than the arches.
Give Roastown a try!

5 bucks for a large = typical pricing.
Couldn’t decide on what fruit to get so the guy convinced me to just get all of them and its really good. So that’s what i did. Smoothie maker comes over to me… hey there’s a three fruit maximum… pick again. OK whatever… mango peach strawberry. delicious. although it had some big chunks of frozen fruit in it.
Sandwiches there are typical run of the mill ny sandwiches. (around 7 bucks. and way to small) not much substance to them. But pretty much anything is good when your hungry. they do come with a small bag of chips.
Didn’t get to try there frozen yogurt but they appear to have a lot of flavors and you can scoop toppings on yourself. They do have mochi as a topping. But working with pink berry die hards I am not sure if ill ever go here for frozen yogurt.
OH YEA and the guy charged me 6.95 pre tax for a sandwich that was listed on the menu as 6.25… wtf mate.

Stopped in for a quick breakfast and thought the espresso, in the form of a café Americano, was some of the best I’ve ever had. The croissant was good too. Service was fast, friendly and efficient. They only have a couple of items on the breakfast menu, so if you’re looking for more options keep heading south on 6^th another block to Sunac. Just stop here for your espresso drink first.

I hate writing bad reviews, but this place sucks. But sometimes convenience is a bitch.
My yoga studio is right down the block, and so sometimes, I get desperate and need something to quench my thirst. I have been in here a handful of times, and every experience has been dreadful.
I have gotten iced coffee on a few occasions, and they always seem to forget to add soy milk. All the employees are space cadets and the place just looks filthy. I have no idea how they can continue to stay open in such a competitive city.
I vow to never come in here again.

Their frozen yogurt was really good. It was tart and really smooth but not too creamy. I prefer their stuff over Pinkberry. We only paid $ 7 for 2 cups of yogurt and toppings. We got a hot chocolate too and the guys at the counter are hilarious. We didn’t really try anything else as we were really full already but I did see pie. PIE!

First visit to Roastown Coffee, I get to the register and order a large coffee and a breakfast sandwich. The woman behind the register pauses and looks at me blankly, and tells me she didn’t know which buttons to push. I leave for Starbucks.
So up comes my second (possibly final) visit to Roastown Coffee and I order the same, and the total comes to $ 7.39. Ouch, that’s about $ 1.50 — $ 2.00 more than any deli /​DD would charge you.
The guy behind the counter pours my coffee, and let’s it sit there for a couple minutes while he makes tea for another customer. The breakfast sandwich I order, requires me to tell three different staff members what I was waiting on, just to get them to start making it. I also ask for salt, pepper, and ketchup, and they left that off.
Oh, and still waiting for my coffee to be given to me.
Receive my sandwich (5 minutes or so on the grill) and have to ask for someone to hand me my coffee, still sitting under the faucet, which isn’t filled up all the way so I give it back.
Keep in mind, not even close to busy in this place at the time. Sorry Roastown without two «t’s», I’ll pass from now on.

I wanted a non-​Starbucks breakfast, so I stepped out of my comfort zone and walked across the street to Roastown.
I was in there shortly before 9am, and of course there was a line, but the staff behind the counter was handling the rush sloppily at best. Lots of people were waiting, shuffling their feet, leaving to go to Starbucks. I waited, not in a particular rush and curious about their breakfast fare.
I was surprised at the lack of choices for breakfast sandwiches — egg on a roll, egg on a wrap, sausage and egg, ham and egg. All for about $ 4 each or so. I ordered an egg on a wrap (actually, it’s three eggs). It was SUPER plain — no seasoning, no sauce. Maybe you could ask them to add in veggies from their salad bar? I ate the wrap, since I was hungry and it didn’t taste bad — it was just boring.
I also ordered an iced coffee and thought that was delicious, hence the three stars. Tasty and fresh, although there was way too much ice and not enough coffee in my cup. Oh well. Next time, I’ll grab a sandwich at Starbucks, and get my coffee here.

I’ve been to this place several times, as it’s just across the street from where I work. Each time I go there, the service gets worse and worse. Today however, was especially horrible and was definitely the last time I ever go there.
This was the THIRD time I (a woman) stood in line and had the cashier wait on the person behind me first, who was a man. Three times?! I proceeded to wait for about ten minutes while the five people working found better things to do than work, before I just gave up and left.
While the coffee isn’t anything to write home about, I had preferred to give my money to an independent business over a corporation, however Starbucks never gave me such bad service.

I was searching for a coffee and quick breakfast sandwich, it was great finding this place. Located across the street from Starbucks is always bold, but they made good quality coffee that i think is slightly less than Starbucks.
Free wifi and fresh breakfast sandwiches. I had a simple egg and cheese. The bread was light and fluffy, eggs cooked to perfection. My double espresso was tasty as well.

This location (and the other) both have a long table by the window which is ideal for people-​watching. Combine that with the delicious lattes and the fact that they take credit cards, and I’m a happy camper.
The staff is nice and there are regulars using the WiFi and avoiding the Starbucks across the street. I think my only caveat is that I keep spelling it ‘Roasttown’ with two t’s when looking up the address in my phone. I haven’t tried the food yet, as I usually come here when in the mood for a vanilla latte.

I was walking down the street with boyfriend in tow. We lazily left our nest at 3 pm and were ridiculously hungry as we havent eaten anything all day, but were determined to save room in our stomachs (6 pm dinner reservation at Blue Hill)
deliriously walking around the hood, we realized we needed coffee to pick up our day.
me: I WANT COFFEE… NOW!
him: alright, lets cross the street. its starbucks.
me: NO! get that nasty starbucks overlord away from me! lets go to this place. if its going to stick it to the s’bucks, i’m with them.
(as you can tell… the bf has a lot of patience to deal with me)
oh, what a joy and treat Roastown was! Not only did we get cheaper and quality coffee (when compared to the starbucks overlord), we also ordered the Roastown signature sandwich to share.
The sandwich came with a small salad and the sandwich consisted of cut up sausages, tomatoes and onion slices on a thick panini bread. yum-​yum! sounds like a plan
sadly, the sandwich was rather big and still was able to fill our ravenous stomachs and slightly spoil our dinners.

At the end of my first hot yoga class, I teared a bit by thinking of a previous co-​worker to whom I could be nicer. The yoga teacher said it’s completely normal on class.
At the end of my second hot yoga class, I teared a bit again by thinking of my ex to whom I was not nice enough.
At the end of my third hot yoga class, I didn’t tear or thought of anybody. The girl next to me broke down. While she was crying terribly, I was craving frozen yogurt desperately for reason unknown. The teacher never explained this kind of craving symptom on class. But anyway, I thought it’s a good sign — my body and mind must have been detoxed and it’s time to fill them with something good.
I was so lucky — only walked half block away from my yoga studio, I found Roastown Coffee. I saw the non-​fat organic frozen yogurt sign on its window. I rushed in, of course. There are several frozen yogurt machines out there, each for a different flavor. It’s the Do-​It-​Yourself frozen yogurt! You can mix any flavors together as you want; shape them as you like; and of course decorate with toppings as you would like to see. You will pay by the weight. This is the best frozen yogurt in town. It tastes so good! pomegranate, blueberry, strawberry flavors are my favorite but cheesecakes, pineapple also good!
Everything is perfect except that the only container you can use is 1pound sized cup. It’s really too much for my hunger but I took the rest away home for the rest of the week. Positive thinking always works but it might overwork in terms of either hot yoga or frozen yogurt.

This place was just your average coffee joint. It’s organic and has free wi-​fi. The set-​up looks modernized, it’s probably renovated from before, from a previous name.
There’s a frozen yogurt section with 10 different self-​serve flavors, from blueberry to strawberry to NY cheesecake. There are random free posters on the side advertising retail, and a way to win random, free giveaways.
Over at the counter, you can order your coffee. I got a small white mocha for $ 3.75. Pretty pricey and just a tiny bit cheaper than Starbucks. But, I like Starbucks better for its sugary sweets. My boo got the house coffee and thought nothing special of it. We both tossed our coffees after taking some sips of ‘em.
There’s smoothies, breakfast foods, salads, sandwiches, etc. Enough seating for you to hang out and browse the internet as you’re chilin’. Nothing extraordinary about the customer service, either.
