The Classon

Just saw a great set with Kevin Sanders at Classon Social Club. Excellent vibe, good sounds. Will return.

Amazing music and food. What a great place. The drinks are awesome. Great draft beer, lots of wine, and some delicious simple and rare cocktails.
The food selection is limited but everything is awesome! Tapa style. Mac n cheese is great, chicken is good too. The mussels come in a huge bowl. The shrimp and grits are the best!!!
I really love the feel of this place. Can’t wait to return.

Fantastic little bar with live music, smack in the middle of the gentrifying part of Crown Heights. We enjoyed some extraordinary Haitian funk. Service is a bit scattered; tables and chairs are haphazard. But if you can put up with the inconvenience, the Classon is bien, bebe.

A close friend had an opening here on Friday and the space was great. This was my first time in the establishment, but I would definitely come back. There was live music and a great open bar. My favorite part was feeling like I was in a cultural oasis, while the staff and management came in all colors I loved feeling like my culture was appreciated and celebrated and not appropriated.
I look forward to going back.

I watched Dynasty Electric perform here. I was blown away by the food and excellent customer service.

I’ve been to the Classon several times with my fiancé… and we love it. Or loved it. The food has always been phenomenal and we really enjoyed the music.
I am taking away one star because of my recent visit this past Saturday. While I always looked forward to coming back, this recent visit left a sour taste in our mouths. First, when the waitress came over, I asked for a diet coke. her answer? «uhm…this is a beer and wine kind of place, i don’t think we sell coke.» Really? What does that even mean? Are you trying to make your customers feel uncomfortable, because congrats, you did it! Funny enough, she returns 2 minutes later saying they have coke, but not diet coke. I guess you are that kind of place? Whatever that kind of place even is…
Also this time the food was sub par. The sweet potato fries came out SOGGY. i understand if this was delivery… but if you can make proper crispy fries, don’t do it. Also, all the food we ordered came out cold… really not sure what’s happening this time around… it seems like since they dropped ‘social club’ from their name, they also dropped quality service and food? I always loved the shrimp and grits dish, but not when it comes out cold.
However, the one dish we get every single time were there is gravalax. its amazing… they cure a different fish each time. We had cured swordfish and it was delicious. Hopefully the Classon can provide better training for employees so that the service and food quality go back to where it should be.

I hate to write this for fear of revealing what may be one of the best kept secrets in the city.
We went last night on a mere whim after seeing an ad on a weekly jazz update I get. We arrived a bit before the show and noticed that the crowd was thin.
By the time we’d ordered and the 8:00pm start of the show grew near the place was full.
The surrounding are awesome. .. I love the vibe of the place. Lots of wood and exposed brick coupled with the front window of a grocery store. The service was fabulous as was the food. The menu consists of only about 6 or 8 items. Good. I’d rather see them do select items well than try to 2^nd guess a music crowd…they nailed it.
We went for a Kale salad, followed by Gravlax and then a cheese plate so nibble on during the show.
The music was provided by The Buyu Ambroise Quartet and was as good as I’ve seen in the 5 boros for sometime. They band just clicked and the crowd was really into the entire scene.
In terms of price. .. we ate like folks returning from a stranded island and the entire bill was $ 59. .. we left $ 80 and then tossed in another $ 20 as the hat was being passed around for the band as we left. $ 100 for an entire night of top notch jazz. . awesome.

Liked it when it first opened but now their menu is tiny and the service is terrible.

Such good music! No cover, $ 30 bottles of wine, solid menu.

What this place is doing right is the MUSIC. Great live jazz on the weekends. No cover, and a great spacious stage are also perks. I’m excited to have this place in the neighborhood, and hope they stay open — they seem to be kinda slow during the week. Good jazz is hard to find consistently.

It’s great to have a jazz venue in our neighborhood! Music is great. Different artist from Thursday to Saturday. I highly recommend this place!

I was there on May 8^th. Almost forgot about to write a review until a friend asking about the restaurant. Here’s my review:
Awful experience. Music was so so and food tasted really bad. And the food was too
pricey and almost no service at all.
I would not recommend it to anyone.

The Classon Social Club is classin up Classon! Came here on Thursday where they have a jazz show every other week. Music was amazing. There is a two drink minimum for the jazz shows but it’s free to get in and these guys are real professionals. Drinks are $ 6 – 8 for the cheap stuff which is pretty good compared to the other places opening up. This definitely brings something unique to the neighborhood and it is something you must add to your list of go to places.

I am giving five stars for the music and the food as a combination. There are not many music venues like this in the neighborhood. The atmosphere is a mellow and classy place, good for a date night or relaxing with some friends over a glass of wine.
I went on a date night with my man and we had the wedge salad, pork belly flatbread, porchetta, and hangar steak. They change the menu regularly according to one of the chefs, who I spoke to outside. The wedge salad was pretty standard and well executed, though the dressing could have had a little more salt. The chicharron in the salad was a perfect complement to the freshness of the lettuce and creamy hard boiled egg. The pork belly flatbread was delicious primarily because of the pork belly, which was crisp and fatty. The porchetta was like a pork lasagna with a layer of herbs in between layers of succulent pork all topped with a layer of bacon. The hangar steak was cooked medium rare, I asked for rare but the waiter said it comes medium rare. I find it a little strange to not be able to request a rare steak. Despite it being cooked more than I prefer, the steak was tender and flavorful. It came with roasted fingerling potatoes and arugula salad. I would recommend all of these dishes as well executed simple food. I would come here just for the food, but coupled with live music it is a killer combination.
The service was spot on the whole night with pouring our wine, checking in with us just the right amount of time, and even opening the door for us as we came and left. We sat a long time after dinner sipping our wine and listening to the blues guitarist. The stage is slightly elevated and the acoustics are just right so you can carry on a conversation while still listening to music. Definitely will be back.

The music was incredible last night. Ed Cherry! He was killer. I came with a party of 5, and we had two carafes of the New York house red, which was mad decent.
The beer selection is excellent.
The food, however, was the real star.
Chorizo with cannellini purée and greens – deliciously salty sausage was paired with cooling, buttery, garlicky bean paste. Perfect.
The antipasto plate and cutting board were great table food – we all reached over and around each other, table manners be damned. Home-​pickles veggies, cured olives. Mm.
The most impressive app was the unique spin on fish and chips: quick-​cured salmon and roasted fingerlings. The fish was smoky and perfectly cured, and the potatoes were impossibly crisp while staying soft on the inside.
We happened to order the entire main course menu. Highlights were the Tagliata, rare and peppery, the Chicken Pot pie, which had a unique gingery note to it, and the porchetta, which crisped up nicely while falling apart on the inside.
The menu seems to change a bit every few weeks, so I will be back often.

Came for the first time on Saturday ²⁄₁₅. They’ve really made a pleasant comfortable space out of it. It feels warm and cozy, not too dark, not too bright., not overly crowded table placement.
We came with our newborn, which always makes you a little nervous that you’ll get the stink-​eye, but they were very sweet and accomodating. He slept the entire time, so that made it easy… we’ll see how it is when we bring the 2 year old. But even the owner came by to chat, and was very kind and clearly loves kids.
Food: we had the pepper jam biscuit to start, shrimp polenta, porchetta, and butterscotch pudding. The wife seemed to love her shrimp dish… good portion, great flavor, didnt share it with me. I thought the polenta was deeeelicious, but its hard to give me 3 types of pig meat on a dish and not make me happy.
Service was attentive, friendly, and quick.
Music: its a really nice setup. Slightly elevated so you can see even from the farthest corner (which is where we sat), and loud enough to hear, but not so loud that we couldnt carry on a conversation. Plus they seem to have put up some sound buffers which dampen any echoing. Great touch that other restaurants need to learn from.
I love me some blues and good southern/​italian food, so think I’d become a regular here. I only hope for 2 things:
1. Please expand the menu
2. Please open for brunch
I expect they’ll be doing both of the above once they work out any kinks (we didnt notice any) and get running smoothly.

I am preemptively sad about this place because it’s so freaking awesome that I know it’s going to take off and I’ll have to start making reservations in advance. But for now, the place is everything I’ve ever wanted — blues and jazz, ambience, great wines, great food, and a friendly waitstaff. Wow. A+. Great night out.

Been waiting for this place to open up for months, and I was not disappointed. Get the chicken pot pie. I’ll be back for dessert.

Cool place. I dropped in on a Saturday night to check it out since I’d walked past it for months and saw it was finally open.
Glad I did. Very good food and a great jazz band. As a native Southerner I had to try the okra and tomatoes risotto; it was much more Louisiana than Italy which is exactly what I was hoping for. I had it with a great biscuit and a delicious jam; my kind of soul food.
Clearly some thought and experience were put into this place. They did a very nice job.
