A neighborhood skate shop! Not a chain. Operator run and they couldn’t be nicer! A great place with a great variety of street cruisers and regular boards. Best skate shop I know.

I’m so happy I found this place. I’m a beginner skateboarder and I’m looking to customize my new build, by trying new pars. Yes, I could have bought most if not all parts online, but as I said, being a beginner I want to try and see what I’m comfortable with. So after I did a bit of research, I set my mind on a pair of wheels, which Uncle Funkys happens to carry (they actually have quite a nice selection of accessories, parts and full builds). Once in the store — which is in a basement of a building and might be easy to pass by not noticing it– I was were nice surprised by the atmosphere, layout and options available. The guy at the counter was very pleasant too. Got my pair of wheels, at a price which is the same as online (which is also a nice surprise, as usually brick and mortar stores tend to charge more for their products).
All in one, I’m a very happy customer, and I will return for sure when in need of new parts.

They carry great products and always spread the stoke.
They really know they’re stuff.
It’s not place that they will just try to sell you something to make a profit.
That is very rare.
They genuinely care about the sport a culture that is longboarding.
I’m an avid longboarder and recommend this place to anyone on the east coast/​tri state area.

Loved this place! Owner of shop is such a nice guy. We went in looking for stickers & left with so much more. Has quite a few awesome boards all of which are on display around the shop. Great place!

I’m so glad that I checked Unilocal before deciding on where to get my skateboard.
I waited 20 years to finally gather the courage to get my own new board. I didn’t want the attitude for the questions I would have as a beginner.
And so I always borrowed boards and well, that’s never enough practice.
I was welcomed in the moment I walked through the door. I was also asked if I needed any help. I sure did!
Not only did I pick out a deck and the usual stuff to complete my skateboard, I watched and learned as they walked me through the process.
I love my new board and I loved the customer service I received. I would definitely go back since they had many selections to choose from.
The owners Jeff and Kristen are awesome and extremely knowledgeable. All these positive reviews you see here are the real deal.

Visited the shop late February to look at a complete, ready-​to-​go longboard to help speed up my 1-​mile walk to the Syosset LIRR station. Owner pulled out a bunch of boards he thought would be suitable. I haven’t ridden a board since the late 80s in college so didn’t really know what I was getting myself into. Settled on a Pantheon Quest and am amazed how easy it is to ride. Looking forward to returning to the shop to purchase a board for my son this fall.

Guy said he would close at 8 pm but would only take 3 minutes to change Barings, and I asked to stay there cause I’ll get there at 8 pm, and he said he can’t stay longer cause he had dinner plans. This is 7:58, and I get there at 8 and he’s locked down and shut down. So rude and wasted my time and subway ride. Won’t recommend his Custer service

If you don’t support your local shop and then they aren’t there anymore, who is to blame? You will be ashamed when you are riding a mall bought board no matter how fine your style is.

Jeff is honest, patient, and very well versed/​aware of the skateboard scene and products. He sells a good mix of decks, trucks, and wheels, allowing a variety of customizations to build a skateboard that supports your needs (city cruising, skate park worthy etc) and reflects your aesthetics! This mom & pops (but for cool kids) shop is right at the intersection, but you’ll easily walk past it if you don’t notice the sign and the stairs to the basement level. Descend into the awesome skateboard dungeon!
Go in out of curiosity, at the very least you’ll come out surprisingly more educated, and possibly with a quality skateboard you’d ride for a lifetime.

This place is awesome! It’s hard to find a straight mom and pop shop for skate shop now a days and I really appreciate these guys.
I’m in the market for a Penny Board and they customized mine specifically as I wanted. All black! She took all the parts from the other boards to make it exactly as I wanted it.
These guys are very knowledgeable about skateboards and all the things they carry.
If you are in the market for a skateboard stop by and check it out. It’s in a basement so it has a speakeasy skate shop feel.

Awesome skate shop. As a first time Penny Board seeker I came to Uncle Funkys to look around. I had never stepped on a Penny Board before, but the gentleman not only taught me how to use it, but also sold me a customized Penny Board (that he customized for me on the spot) that I’m in love with. The selection was vast. The staff was knowledgeable and very helpful. The prices were fair. The store was well organized and in a good location.
My cousin was visiting from Germany and wanted a longboard. He was shown many and found one he liked and was also given ideas on how to bring it back home on the plane.

If you are looking for this place you may miss it on the first pass, but take a second look if you walk by. It is downstairs and well worth the visit. The owner is friendly and knowledgeable. They make sure you get what you are looking for and offer tips for novice skaters to keep everyone safe and having fun. I have gone back multiple times and would recommend to anyone trying to have some fun skating.

I got my daughter her first Penny Nickel. The owner was great. He had several customers but he still found the time to teach her how to take care of her board. It was a real «First Class» treatment. He even asked us if we wanted him to recycle the packaging we did not need. My girl walked out a smile from ear to ear after getting her board.

I recently took up long-​boarding and my friend introduced me to this skate-​shop. It’s hidden out of plain view and can be quite hard to find, but my friend is a regular here and we found it with no problem at all. The shop was lined with all different types of longboards, skateboards, helmets, vintage boards and all types of boarding paraphernalia. The owner helped me custom build my board exactly to my liking and I left a happy customer. I will be back if I ever need a new board and I’ll definitely recommend this place to my friends.

So impressed by this shop! They not only stayed open late for us– were totally accommodating– but also took there time in ensuring that we got exactly what we came for!

The ONLY place I will go to for skateboards
Let me preface this review by saying that I am a complete novice when it comes to skateboards and longboards. I headed down to Uncle Funkys hoping to find a gift for someone. As soon as I had walked in the door, I knew I had come to the right place.
Uncle Funkys is hidden away down a set of stairs and feels like a luxury car shop crossed with skater punk style. All different kinds of boards line the walls and ceilings. Longboards, penny boards, vintage boards, high trucks, low trucks, expensive boards, cheap boards, small wheels, big wheels… if its been made, Uncle Funkys has it.
For someone with as little experience as me, it was all extremely overwhelming. That’s when Uncle Funkys got bumped up from a three star place to a five star one. The staff is absolutely incredible. They were extremely friendly and willing to help me find what I was looking for. Even though I clearly knew nothing about anything, they explained it to me without making me feel like an idiot for not knowing. As with any subculture, a lot of skate shops can be very unwelcome to beginners, and generally have an aloof «too cool for you» vibe. Uncle Funky’s could not be further from that.
Not only did they know the answers to all of my questions, they were extremely friendly and helpful in picking out a board. Once we decided on which deck we wanted, he even kindly knocked $ 10 off the price for a scratch that I hadn’t even noticed. He then assembled the board for us, explaining the various choices in trucks and wheels before letting us try out the board before we bought it.
Overall, I couldn’t be more satisfied with Uncle Funkys. It’s definitely on the expensive side, but if you want a great skateboard with amazing customer service as well, there is simply no other place like it.

Came here to get some clear grip tape for my penny and everyone was super friendly. They even gave me a file so I could grip it on my own. The shop has basically anything you need and a bunch of really nice apparel.
