Unleashed Spa & Self Service Dog Wash

This is a review on self-​service dog wash. Please note I’ve never used one before, but thought I’d try given how much fur my Pomeranian sheds each time I blow dry him at home. This is Not for Us.
For $ 20 — you share the space (of course) with groomers who are busily grooming dogs, but you only get access to the wash trough. The place is very loud, because they use the cage dryers for most of the drytime at least, and the whole time in addition to the whine of cage dryer, there was a screaming dog in there, which didn’t enhance my dogs stressful reaction to the place. They give you shampoos (only one brand) to use (but no conditioner), and a few grooming tools, nothing special. Thank goodness I brought all my Pommie’s favorite tools. The only bright side was you get to use one of those high power «blow all the water out in 10 minutes» professional blow-​dryers. Will stick to quiet home style washing in the kitchen sink from now on.

My regular groomer was over booked this weekend so I went with unleashed after my doggie day care swore by them.
I think they did a fine job grooming my dog, albeit a lot pricier than I’d like, however they took for-​ever.
It’s about a 20-​block walk from my apt in the LES so I thought I’d hang out for the hour, but at the 1 hour mark, I don’t think they had even started with my dog.
They told me to come back in another 30 minutes and this time he was ready, and just waiting for me.
I didn’t get a phone call or anything. I’m going to assume they were just too busy today. They seem well liked in the neighborhood and everyone there was quite pleasant.
I just think my dog was stressed out being there for so long, and for the price, I’d have liked them to have him ready in the 1 hour estimate.

The groomer who I took my puppy to for her first groom was busy until closer to the end of June and I needed to get my puppy shaved down as she was unable to be groomed during a 6 week recovery and mats easily without daily brushing, so after 6 weeks her hair was matted to the point where it was better to shave her down and start over. Seeing her constantly itching and biting at her mats I knew she was suffering and something had to be done. My puppy is also more reactive than normal as she is still restricted from activity and is a super energetic puppy!
Thanks to Unilocal,I came across Unleashed Spa and reading so many positive reviews I decided to give them a shot. I spoke to Kim and explained to her my situation and she assured me that my puppy would be in good hands, and she could accommodate me the very next day and to come early so my puppy wouldn’t be too over stimulated.
This morning my puppy and I headed over and we were greeted by Kim and Shannon, my puppy’s groomer. I had a pretty detailed chat with Kim and Shannon and we talked through what needed to be done for my puppy. She said it would be 2 – 3 hours and that they would call me when she’s done. The nice thing is that the grooming stations are behind floor to ceiling glass so you can see and hear everything that’s going on. Shannon took my puppy to the back and my puppy was at ease as she started to get groomed.
While there wasn’t seating inside to watch, I saw a few seats outside that I could have sat and watched, but opted to sit at this awesome coffee shop down the street while I waited for the call.
A little after 2 hours I got the call that my puppy was done and when I went to go get her, my puppy was tucked away in a crate but Shannon harnessed and leashed her up and brought her out to me. My puppy looked completely different without her fluff, and the bandana was an adorable touch. My puppy didn’t appear to be too stressed and greeted me as she always has when I pick her up from anywhere, super happy to see me!
Since my puppy has to deal with this for the rest of her life I’m glad I was able to find a groomer that did a great job and I look forward to bringing my puppy back to see Shannon again!

I have been a client of theirs for about 6 months. They do a great job in regards to grooming and bathing my dog. They are very informative with all of my questions.

The customer service alone warrants 5 stars! I previously reviewed this business upon the first time having my dog groomed here and I wasn’t very happy with his haircut because I thought that it was too short. When the owner read my review, she called me and asked for a second chance, at no cost, to bring Linus in and try again next time. I brought him back today, she remembered me and my experience, and again told me that the groom was on the house. I discussed the haircut with the groomer, and was very pleasantly surprised when I came to pick Linus up because he looked amazing and the cut was perfect. The owner was present again when I picked him up, and she really wanted to make sure that I was happy. This place really cares about their customers, which tells me they probably care a lot about my pet as well. I can’t say enough good things about their customer service and the way this situation was handled, they couldn’t have made me a more satisfied customer. Thank you so much Unleashed!!!

I have used both the self-​service dog wash (very convenient if you don’t want your 65 lb dog trying to escape your small apartment’s bathtub and shaking all over you) and the grooming service. Love the self-​service for convenience — they also will assist you a little which is nice. For the grooming, my dog always came out looking and smelling great — and happy too, which means he had a good experience.

They did an awesome job with my coton puppy! I was visiting NYC and needed to find a groomer for my puppy for that weekend (he had not been feeling well the past few days so I postponed his grooming until he felt better). I found this place and decided to take my pup here. I left my pup here and decided to have lunch in the area. After one hour and 30 minutes, my coton was so fluffy and clean! They use a facial scrub and the stains in his face were visibly faded. He also remained white and fluffy for a long time. Too bad I don’t live in NYC, otherwise this place would be my first choice to take my pup.
I visit NYC often so I will definitely be back!

Took my puppy Cereal for his fist grooming section last week and was very happy about the result. Cereal is Pomeranian with EXTREMELY long hair. Like the rest of you, I did tons of researches before putting my child on someone’s hand. There is a couple doggie spa and groomer in my neighborhood but their rating are just soso. Since unleashed got such amazing reviews on Unilocal,I decided to give it a try.
Got an appointment 2 days prior visit and they took me exactly at 12. +1 star.
The groomer was very nice and gave me a lot of suggestions on how to groom Cereal. +1 star.
The groomer took her time with Cereal. She spent almost 2 hours on showering and brushing Cereal. Whole grooming section was around 2 and a half hours with no extra charge. +1 stars.
I was very nervous and I literally stood there while they groom Cereal. They were cool with that. +1 star
One thing very impressed me is the owner test new groomer WITH HER OWN DOG, Chester, instead of customer’s dog. +1 star
You see, I could keep on and on and give this place a million stars. With a very decent price ($ 75 for small dog grooming, $ 10 teeth brushing +tips) you will get an amazing experience. Whoever live in this neighborhood, you are lucky. I will bring my doggie here every day if I were you.

Unleashed opened around the same time as we got our Siberian Husky and we’ve been bringing her here ever since.
The way they handle your pets is second to none. The groomers are all friendly and are excellent with the animals — you know that your pet’s going to be safe in their hands. In fact, Nico drags me there.
More importantly though, she always comes out happy and pristine. Huskies are a disaster-​zone when it comes to shedding time, and Kim’s team have always done a stunning job with her. It’s well worth the extra money for the de-​shed (or de-​thatch as I call it). If you’re not familiar with just how much fur a Husky keeps tucked away in there, just waiting to smother your furniture and finest clothes, search YouTube for «Husky Shedding». Do it now. Pour yourself a drink and watch some videos.
Curious about how they did such a great job, I once donned an apron and sat and watched: The wash was followed by a fur-​loosening conditioner and a brush with a special rubber glove thingy that gently liberated about three dogs’ worth of undercoat. There followed a blow-​dry which released another 2 to 3 dogs’ worth. At this point you could fill a pillow case and sleep comfortably, and the devastation around the bath zone would leave your home uninhabitable. But they weren’t done yet, and nor was Nico who, now dry, had the Furminator taken to her. Attempting to do this at home never went well, but the shampoo and conditioner treatment made this last wave of fur come out easily. In fact, Nico didn’t mind at all. Another blow out from the dryer and a final once over with an ordinary brush settled her coat ready for the bandanna they gave her.
Nico leaves visibly thinner, whiter, and happier than when she goes in, transformed from an off-​white New York-​stained walking fur ball to the elegant perfectly white Husky that lurks beneath. Every time.
When Nico was younger she could be quite a handful and Unleashed never batted an eyelid. The groomers have always been professional and capable handlers.
It’s been 7 years since we first took Nico there. I’ve wlost count of how many times we’ve been back. One time in all those visits, Nico still had a little undercoat remaining on her underside and they insisted on fixing it immediately.
I’ve never tried another groomer, so I can’t compare them. But I have never felt the need to try and 5 stars is more than well deserved. They run a tight ship, do a great job, treat you and the animals with great respect, and bend over backwards to accommodate you.
I never hesitate to recommend Kim and her staff at Unleashed Spa to anyone looking for a groomer.

Unleashed Spa is a full service grooming spa with a small retail boutique in the East Village. Mochi (
) has been going to the spa regularly since her very first haircut in November and loves her groomer Han!
There are not a lot of great options for dog grooming in our neighborhood so after reading a TON of reviews, we decided to try Unleashed Spa for Mochi’s first grooming experience and have been so pleased that we’ve since been back multiple times! Full service grooming appointments (starting at $ 70 for small dogs) have typically taken around 3 hours and include ear cleaning, nail clipping, paw pad cleaning, anal gland expression, a blueberry facial, bath with choice of shampoos, blowout, sanitary clip and haircut.
Prior to appointments, you can consult with the groomers to discuss any preferences/​concerns, and our groomer Han is always attentive and pays attention to any specific requests we have. He’s truly recommended and Mochi loves him. We like that there are floor to ceiling glass dividers between the retail section and the main grooming room so you can actually watch your dog being groomed if you want — even though we never stay during Mochi’s appointments, there’s something reassuring about fact that you can see into the grooming area and dogs aren’t just taken to some mystery back room like in some spas.
We don’t have much of a basis for comparison, but Mochi always leaves Unleashed happy, smelling fresh and clean and looking adorable — so what more can we really ask for?! In speaking to the owner Kim, it’s clear she feels strongly about building and maintaining customer relationships. We get the sense that most of their customers (like us!) aren’t just one-​timers — they keep coming back. Kim is also committed to recruiting the best groomers and truly believes in the quality of her staff. We can only speak from our personal experience (though 100+ positive Unilocal reviews agree), but we love Unleashed Spa!

It was my first time taking my new puppy to her first grooming session. I was so happy with the service, she looked like a princess when she came out to greet me! She’s still scared of her baths so I was glad she had a good time herself. I cannot get over the top knot the groomer gave her it was so adorable.

kim and her team are fantastic! we discovered unleashed one day as we were walking through our neighborhood and decided to give them a call when our pup, Snail, needed an ear cleaning. we brought him in and kim took care of it right away without trying to up-​sell us on any big packages or doggy day spa specials…
we’ve since brought him in for 3 or 4 full service groomings and have been so happy with their work. Snail loves especially loves oscar, so we try to request him whenever possible, but everyone is great. he always leaves happy, with a cute ass scarf on and smelling like clean sheets.
whenever possible, i try to support small, local businesses, so i’m so glad we discovered this neighborhood gem. i would highly recommend them.

Today I took my cat Stacey to Unleashed because she’s a longhair (i.e. – lotsa dander) and her coat had been dreading up – at first, without my even noticing. (She’s very fluffy!)
So I had an appointment with Han, who said he’d try and leave a mane and pompon on the end of her tail. (Why not?) So he did – and he shaved down her body.
Fortunately it’s still hot enough that she’ll be warm while it grows back, and this is a signal to me that I need to start brushing her diligently when it starts growing back.
Unleashed is a full-​service groom for a competitive price, and I’m glad to have it in the neighborhood.

Took my two 12 yr old cats for their annual summer grooming. Wash, de-​shed, cut, nails, etc. Absolutely loved the service. Ashley was so lovely and loving w my girls. It’s been 2 weeks since, and they still feel good and nails growing out nicely.
Pricing is very reasonable but moreover the service is unbeatable. I don’t live very close, but def worth the cab ride to/​from.

I can’t begin to express how happy I am with my overall experience with Unleashed Spa! I love it. I called at about 12:30 the day I needed the appt, & they were about to accommodate me the same day!
When I dropped off my dog, the groomer & owner both greeted me & explained to me about my dogs fine hair. They were great!
The first time I took my dog to get groomed Chloe was really upset, she acted like she didn’t know me for a whole day, and was peeing everywhere in my apartment! (this wasn’t at unleashed it was at another groomer) This time was her second time getting groomed and she was actually excited to see me. I feel in love the way she looked.

I’ve been a happy customer at Unleashed for several years now. My long haired Dachshund, Oscar Mayer is groomed once a week.
They brush his teeth, trim his nails and his hair where needed. He always leaves with a super shines coat and he smells amazing!
They top him off with a cute bandana. Even though he’s a wiener dog, he holds his high one he steps out of the groomer making him two inches taller :)
The staff is very friendly! Kim the owner is always smiling and says hello when I pass by. In all the years of going I’ve had nothing but A++ service. It shows that they love the animals that come in.
The salon is clean and you can see the animals getting groomed through a glass window, so they’re nothing dodgy going on behind the scenes.
I’ll continue to bring Oscar here. Thanks so much Unleashed for treating us so well!

Loooove this place. My dog (Harper) is such a DIVA PRINCESS with a big attitude. Unleashed takes great care of her. We have now been here 2x and I will never go anywhere else in NYC.
Harper’s a small (9lb) Pomeranian. She’s very scared of being groomed and typically hates other dogs (aka barks furiously at them unless told to «BE QUIET» by me). Here — she feels at home! When I drop her off, she is totally fine leaving with her groomer, when usually she has separation anxiety from me. When I pick her up, she is calm and quiet. Oh, and she looks AMAZING. They take direction very well — I always like her just cleaned up in the back, toe nails clipped, and tail untouched. 2 – 3 hours later, she looks perfect and just as I directed! :) (I have had bad experiences at other places where they cut her tail to look like a triangle. It was horrible — would never happen here).
For $ 70 this is also a price-​performer given it’s an NYC dog spa. That gets you the whole shabang for your pup.
OMG ALSO I LOVE THE LTTLE BANDANA THEY GIVE HER ON THE WAY OUT. It’s such a nice touch!

I love bringing my little man here. He always comes back looking so cute and relaxed. They treat every animal with such love. Most places dont care or do a rush job this is the third place ive come to and I am so glad I found this place. We have been coming here recently and I would not go anywhere else.
Yes my little man is called Jagr and I can only imagine his day at the «spa» lol.
