Everyone needs to get a grip on here.
Victor is an old school Latino grandpa-​like dude who actually should be working in Paris as a couturier. Yes he is THAT good.
Sure Manhattanites who want pretty white floors and an All American staff won’t understand the authenticity of this place but I think maybe they should go elsewhere and don’t deserve to have this staff work on their pieces.
Victor doesn’t really speak English, it’s true. But just describe what you want. He’ll either fix what ever is screwed up or he will make you one from scratch. Maybe they don’t open at 9 AM but get over it; it’s mom and pop.
This place has saved many pieces from ruin, saved me many clients (I work in fashion) and the artistry here is unparalleled.

Great and neat job to all my clothes. Really nice employees. Been going here for years best tailor in NYC. If you want a job well done fast go here. Would definitely recommend

If I could give 0 stars I would. One of the worst jobs ever, an elementary student could sew better this guy. He used the wrong color thread, sloppy stitch work, he redid a simple task what I had asked him to do not one, two, three, four but FIVE TIMES. Ruined an expensive garment I had by pulling it apart multiple times. He was too busy talking on his cell phone to accomodate. STAY AWAY. I will post photos of before & after. This guy should be reported to the better business bureau.

I came here due to the reviews I read on Unilocal.
now, i learned you can’t trust everythin you read on Unilocal.
I don’t know who this Victor paid to write some of these 5 star reviews, but when I went to his shop he greeted me with a mean grill like it was his first day out of jail and was thrown back in the sweatshop. i told him i wanted my jeans hemmed a few inches shorter, and he was about to just take my jeans without even asking how much i want it shortened.
my gut told me i should prob try someplace else. but of course, who listens to their gut anymore? So i paid my $ 10, handed him my jeans, and came back for them an hour later. When i took them home and took a close look, I realized one leg was ½ inch shorter than the other. I had taken it for granted that tailors knew how to measure.
Immediately the next day, i took it back (though he didnt give me a receipt, which was another bad sign), i figured he would still remember me. Instead of fixing his mistake, he kept INSISTING THAT THE LEGS ON THE JEANS WERE EVEN!!! i literally spent an hour telling this man that i wanted it fixed and he just wouldn’t fix it, cause apparently there was nothing to fix. He even made me try on the jeans to prove his point.
When he finally agreed to even out the jeans, he said it would cost 5 bucks, even when he originally agreed it was no charge. I told him again that i was there just yesterday and this was his mistake, and he said okay it’ll be free but it won’t be ready til the next day. and during this whole time, he still claimed that the jeans were perfectly even but if i wanted to wear an uneven pair then that was up to me.
I was so fed up, that I walked out and went to another tailor just a block away. Thankfully, this one knew how to measure. I wasn’t crazy, the jeans were in fact half an inch shorter on one leg. In less than 30 minutes, the jeans were fixed and I was out the door. And on top of that, this young man knew how to smile. He told me that Victor used to work for them, but he was always a stubborn guy who never liked to correct his mistakes. I learned that the hard way.

Super quick. Did a good job. Cheap enough. $ 8 for a hem job on some selvedge jeans.

i’ve taken about 4 pairs of jeans to have taken in here, and they’ve always been done well. i even had them re-​do a pair and they were very timely about it. never had a problem with things taking a while as others have said.
but their prices have gone UP. this service was $ 20 or $ 25 a year ago, and now it’s up to $ 35. what gives?
also victor, or whoever seems to be the main tailor, is very short with customers and doesn’t speak much english (which would be fine if it seemed like he was interested in being understood).

I wish there was a 2.5 star option because that’s what this place deserves. I brought two blazers to have the sleeves shortened and to be taken in; one pair of jeans to be shortened; and one pair of shorts to be made a size smaller and shortened.
TO me, the shorts seemed difficult, and those were perfect. The jeans were fine too. The blazers were awful. He left one sleeve 1.5 inches longer than the other and was kind of rude when I brought it back to be fixed. The other blazer, he left extra material inside the sleeve and made it too tight.
Not going back.

Did a nice job for me, the work was to fix some wholes in my sweaters, so not exactly major tailoring, but they did a nice job and the price was right.

Being the mother of a seamstress, I may have higher expectations than the average consumer so please keep that in mind when reading my review. Victor neglected to finish half of my requests and then tried to convince me I had asked for something else.
I sent a dress back for the proper repairs and it took more than 3 weeks for him to fix it. I took several items to him and only chose to do the alterations that weren’t too pricey. The quotes I got at Laura & Melinda Tailors in the Lower East Side were considerably cheaper than the ones I got at Victor’s.

After purchasing a suit from Zara, I brought it to Victor and Tailors at the recommendation of one of Zara’s workers. I brought it to V& T the next morning at 9:30 and to my disappointment, they hadn’t opened yet. Their open time was supposed to be 9 am.
Strike one.
I decided to give them a second chance since they had been recommended so I went back at lunch time. We decided to go with a deep break for the pants. Fine. For the jacket, in order to shorten the sleeve a faux button would have to be removed. I asked the guy if they could put the button back on top of the others. He told me I should call back after 3. Apparently, he’s just here to take the adjustments, not make them. So I left a deposit and hoped for the best. When I called at 4, I spoke with who I believed to be Victor. His English was terrible and his attitude was worse. He couldn’t comprehend what I was asking and so I said fine just make the alterations and I’ll take the buttons back.
Strike two.
So I went back to pick up my suit last night and when I got there, the guy I presume to be Victor could not find the suit. Even after I told him it was navy he kept bringing over black suits. Finally, when he did locate it, it hadn’t been altered. AT ALL.
Strike three.
When my girlfriend asked if he could cap the sleeve at the shoulder so we could save the buttons, he said he could for $ 90. I opted not to get this done since I needed the suit for the next day and I didn’t want him to do a rush job. I asked if he could hem the pants and to just leave the jacket the way it is. He hemmed the pants and in 7 minutes they were done. He did a nice job with the hem but my problem isn’t with his tailoring skills. It’s with everything else. Could of saved the headache and gone to my local tailor. Lesson learned!

This guy is a total scammer. My friend recommended him and I started off by giving him pants to hem. It was fine. A little shorter than I like but that could have been my fault. I asked him how much to re-​line a short jacket and he said $ 40. But when I brought it to him, he changed the price to $ 80. Fine, he’s a small business and I wanted him to have the work. He wrote down a due date a week from the date I dropped off the items (jacket + 2 pairs of pants). A day after the due date, I return to pick up my items NONE of them were done. He kept blaming me that I didn’t call him and that I was making a big deal over nothing. He insisted he be paid for his time so in order to get my clothes back, I had to give him money for NOTHING! All he had done in 8 days was rip out the old lining on the jacket. Pants weren’t hemmed either. DO NOT GO TO THIS GUY!!!

Bad quality and customer service. Have lived to regret being lazy and going to this place instead of a trusted one (G & G in Soho). They were fine on an easy repair but failed to use the right stitch on a trickier fabric. Went back on a Sunday to have it fixed and they told me to come back when the tailor was there on any other day of the week. Did as instructed and was told I waited too long. So now I’ve wasted time and money on two items of clothing that I rather liked.

These guys do a great job. Quick service, reasonable prices.

Far and away the best tailor i’ve been to in New York. Consistently does a great job for prices that are much lower than other shops. I’ve tried more convenient and expensive places, but always coming back here for my tailoring.

Hemmed a new pair of jeans and did a fine job of hiding the alterations and matching the original stitching. (This place was recommended to me by a salesman at Lucky Brand). When I dropped them off he said, how much do you want them shortened, as if he wasn’t willing for me to try them on and for him to pin them. Maybe he was in a hurry or something…
I paid ($ 15) when I dropped them off, as he requested, but apparently he didn’t mark that on the receipt (and didn’t give me a copy). Communication was a little terse/​weird/​hard to understand, so I didn’t press the issue. Consequently, there was some he said-​he said about whether or not I had paid when I went to pick them up the next day. In the end, I won out, but I wish I had pressed for a copy of the receipt the day before. Lesson learned.

Went there based on reviews so I brought 3 things to test him out. Pair of new jeans and 2 shirts. I asked for the shirts to be taken in and the jeans to be hemmed with original hem reattached. He did a good job pinning the shirts for alteration and in marking the jeans, then looks to have thrown all that work away when he was altering them.
I asked for the original hem to be reattached to the jeans 3 times (he even wrote this down on the order that was pinned to the jeans!) he just decided to cut off the original hem and put it in the pocket of the jeans. On top of that he ignored his markings and the jean legs are now too short! Good thing I gave him a test pair of jeans I got on sale. Definately not worth the $ 15 he charged
One shirt turned out well (overpriced at $ 15 for the little amount of work that one needed) the other short sleeved shirt needed to be taken in a LOT basically had to rework a size XL shirt into a size M shirt (he charged $ 20). This one needed about 3 inches of fabic on each side and the sleeves taken off and he pinned this accurately… then only took it in by ½ inch from all sides and sleeves.
I wouldn’t recommend this place, I would have been happier if I did it myself and I don’t know how to sew! I will never return here but if he is already doing something for you, I would try them on in the store before leaving so you can just give it back and say «fix it»

Got my coat zipper fixed here in a little less than a week. Great job, found a zipper replacement that was pretty much exact to what the coat originally had. It was a little pricier than I expected at $ 45, but I figure since my coat zipper was pretty long length-​wise, it wasn’t too bad.
Also very convenient hours — I believe they’re open until 8 or 9 pm.

Victor is great. I took a suit jacket over to him for a standard alteration (take in the back), $ 25. Same simple alteration at my neighborhood dry cleaner… $ 70.
A friend had two pairs of pants hemmed. One of them was a pair of jeans where she wanted to keep original edge etc… you know what I’m talking about. $ 10. For both pairs.
Good work, great hours (he stays open until 8pm and might even be open on Sundays, which is unheard of).

Someone told me that this is the best tailor in NYC.
Now, I’m no tailor-​expert… but this guy is good. He gets it all right. Makes everything look good. Last time I was there, someone was even getting custom curtains from him, so I take this as a testament of the magic he sews.
So I guess he gets my vote as the best tailor in the city. That makes two… and counting.
