Good looking crowd, attentive service and great drinks. Came here in July and can’t wait to come back. The setup in the bar area is fantastic for people watching and they have a little tiny outdoor area. A few tables where you can munch on the lamb and enjoy the bustling sidewalk. Big fan of the place and the location is amazing.

This is not classical healthy/happy/cupcake review. Confession: when you talk about bar, and you’re happy and satisfied about it, you definitely was drunk or at least tipsy! I loved my last night drinks and this morning i loved them even more, waking up with no headache and perfectly fresh and ready to go! sooooo, last night me and friend were in a mood for some good whiskey, doesn’t matter cocktail or shot. We decide to stop by Whitehall and were more than happy with our choice! I was in this kinda«surprise me» mood, so I just described what I want and prepared to be impressed. Ohhhh!!! that drink was perfectly balanced! Honey infused whiskey, in combination with fresh lemon juice, touch of ginger and some mint(maybe there was something else, i just don’t remember) then bartender was really sweet, he gave us to try«very very last shots of vanilla infused whiskey» this was delicious!!! yummy 4 starts for now, cause i haven’t try their food and feel like need to come again(so much more to try in cocktail list) :P

Really good food. The sea bass and steak were very well done. Food was light, fresh and refreshing, and the ambiance was chill and not too noisy. Great place in the West Village for dinner.

Ate here again for brunch and another time for dinner. Excellent service, excellent food. If you come on a packed brunch, I recommend sitting at the bar. Our bartender was not only knowledgeable, but he was funny, entertaining, and made excellent drinks. I commended the manager of the restaurant when I saw him(he was easy to spot) and told him that his food and service was fantastic. He greatly appreciated my positivity.

Delightful, I’d happily meet L here any night of the week — rolled in at 1030p on a Fri night after what I can only describe as a cluster of a transport situation involving myself, a lost wallet, and at least three ubers — was immediately thrilled that it wasn’t wall to wall ppl and that she had snagged us a clutch table near the door — started w the No. 10 — early grey gin, scotch, tamarind, and lime — ummmm yes pls — then moved onto what is definitely a classier version of a Long Island iced tea as it was all EtOH — rye, curaçao, shit I don’t remember, and a definitive buzz. Worth a slurp. Though we didn’t hit the food, a quick look at the tables around us happily noshed on an obligatory kale salad, a burrata situation I wanted to investigate more thoroughly w my mouth, a real looking burger, and some scallops I wanted to try in the realist of way, I can only assume that the food is as tasty as the cocktails are. Service is friendly but absent. Noise level is loud but not insanity. Vibe is casual but hip — either a romper or skinnies and an ironic muscle tank would suffice. Beer is $ 7 – 13, cocktails are $ 13ish, and I don’t think I even bothered w the wine list, but it’s there. Starters are $ 10−15ish, entrees are $ 20−30ish — overall, the type of place I’d love to have in my neighb for an ambrosial apéritif or a low key din. Well played, my love, well played.

This is a great spot in the West Village that brings in an attractive crowd. Bartenders are friendly and do very well at their craft. Cocktail menu is on point and their food quite good. The layout caters well to smaller groups so make sure you have a reservation if you’ve got 5 or more in your party. I’m a fan.

I went for Sunday brunch around 1:30 with a friend. I got there early and had an espresso at the bar; the bartender was very accommodating. The hostess found me and told me my friend had called and would be a bit late. When he came, we sat down and hung around for three hours without anyone saying a word.(Admittedly there were a few empty tables this particular afternoon. In fact, the two girls next to us were cackling at an ear-splitting level — what’s up with that — and we asked to move to another table; the waitress said absolutely and moved us away from the shrews.) I had the crab cake breakfast which was delicious — big chunks of real crab, nicely poached eggs and a not-too-heavy bearnaise sauce. The baked beans were a nice side dish as well. For an after sweet, we shared the muffin plate which I found spongy, tasteful and not too sweet. There’s a full bar with some great brunch drinks. I’m not used to wait staff being so nice in NY restaurants which is why this one gets five stars. I had a great time and would go back anytime. Check it out!

This place is the bomb. My husband and I have been to Whitehall several times now, the food and drinks are fantastic, the service is impeccable(thanks to Kelly, we love you!). And everyone that works there couldn’t be more friendly. i loved the steak, warm beets, deserts, and basically will return as many times as I can. This is a MUST go to place! My birthday evening there ended surprisingly, in a most stupendous way, as we spotted Michael C. Hall at the front entrance table as we were leaving this fine evening. Keep up the good work! We’ll be back, again, and again…

Came for a company party and it was AMAZING! The bartenders are SUPERB! Really friendly, hospitable, and fun! Loved the drinks they made us. The rest of the staff was also great — nice and helpful. The terrine was delicious. The pumpkin gnocci was a bit disappointing though, too sweet for my taste. The space is cute. If you have a group of 5 – 6, definitely request the booth in the back — best seats in the house!

I’ve been here for drinks before and really enjoyed the drinks and the service so I suggested this place for dinner on a recent night out. We didn’t have reservations but we got a table right away in the back which is preferable in my opinion as the front area can get really loud. My boyfriend and I shared the braised short ribs, the burger, and a side dish of chickpea patties. I was under the impression that the portions would be on the smaller side but they were quite generous so we actually didn’t need to order a side. We both agreed the burger was quite good but the short ribs was the winner. It was tender and flavorful and very filling! For drinks I had wine but my boyfriend enjoyed a couple of different cocktails. All in all it was a lovely dinner and even though it wasn’t exactly inexpensive I do think the price is reasonable for the portions. I could see myself coming back if I want a solid dinner place in that exact area. Edit: After a great brunch experience I upgraded my rating to 5 stars. The food, drink and service are all excellent here at Whitehall and they take brunch reservations! My favorite item was the mushroom ricotta toast. Oh so good!

We wanted to try this place because had heard of it being the sister bar of Highland(which we loved). Food was exquisite, drinks were mostly with gin — tasty and different, service by bartender Jason was extraordinary — great recommendations, very attentive and on point.

Really excellent! Ambience was cozy and everyone working there was really attentive and friendly. A friend got the polenta and I got the burger, which was one of the top three burgers I think I’ve ever eaten. We also split the Brussels sprouts which were the vegetable equivalent of crack. Overall super great and would recommend!

Happened upon this cute restaurant while trying to find a place for brunch on a rainy Saturday. The maître d is reminiscent of Jude Law, and the cozy corners are perfect for small gatherings. The menu is limited but everything we got was delicious and in good portion. We ordered the steak pie with a soft boiled egg & mushy peas(loooved the mushy peas), the monte christo sandwich(the mustard aioli and grilled red onions really made the sandwich!) and the crab toastee. Along with the brunch drinks, we were pretty happy and full!

I’ve gone to this spot before with Aish on a West Village cocktail crawl several months ago. As I noticed the first time, the bar area is VERY cramped. This is mostly because there are tables for patrons to eat at immediately behind the bar. While I understand restaurants in NYC are trying to maximize profits with more tables, it is incredibly annoying to pay for a cocktail and be nearly in someone’s lap as they eat dinner. Granted, this is likely as annoying, if not more, for the people attempting to eat! For my first cocktail, I ordered the No. 11, this cocktail is made with house infused vanilla bean bourbon, lemon and mint. It is served in a mason jar and super yummy! For my second drink, I ordered a gin(Tanqueray) and tonic. This isn’t the sexiest looking cocktail, so I didn’t snap a photo. For my third and final cocktail, I ordered a Bulleit Manhattan. I love when this cocktail is served in a couple glass — so classy! We were starving while we were there for a couple hours, so we ordered a couple baskets of French fries. They were tasty! It was odd that they were served with BBQ sauce and not ketchup, so I asked for mayo for dipping. Because, when the food is already fried, you clearly need to dip it in mayo. NOMNOM! I recommend checking this place out for a drink, but be warned if you go during a generally popular time(right after work or the weekend evenings) you will be cramped!

Stopped by here for brunch solo. I was surprised that there were empty tables here considering all other eateries around the area were completely packed. Being that I was by myself, I decided to try this place out. I got the cast iron griddle with baked eggs, mushroom, and chorizo with a piece of country bread. Considering the food, it’s really not worth the $ 14. The country bread was so dried and too crunchy for my liking. A teeny tiny iced tea is $ 4. Definitely overpriced, but if you need a place to get a bite and everything else is packed, then go here.

You know that feeling you get when you walk into a room and all eyes happen to be staring right at you? Well that was me and the location was Whitehall. Fairly empty on a weekday after work with just a group in the front of the place. The echoing of their conversation could be heard through the place in its entirety. Manager towards the back gave a blank stare as i said«how ya doing?». Pulled up a stool at the bar and was greeted by Brian the bartender. A friendly guy that just moved here from the boonies and quite knowledge about his whiskey /bourbon. If i had to make a bold statement, it would be that all bartenders should be like this guy. Maybe he should teach hospitality classes somewhere? Took a look at the drink menu and opt for the salted grapefruit Negroni. The Antica vermouth really shines in this drink as it gives perfect balance to the more botanical gin they used. A great option for someone that loves Negroni but doesn’t like them too bitter. Next up was an old fashion. I gave Brian the option of choosing my bourbon for this since he seemed like a man with an extensive knowledge of spirits. He chose Widow Jane. Fairly new to the market(about 9 months to date), this American bourbon run 45.5 percent alcohol and aged for 7 years in an American oak barrel. The water used is pure mineral limestone water. I was surprised at how clean tasting this was. Nuances of cherry can be detected along with orange. This is my new favorite bourbon. Didn’t get to try the food as we had other plans for dinner thou the patron who was also sitting at the bar seemed to thoroughly enjoyed his Whole Mayan Prawns. A great gem in Greenwich.

*This review is for the burger only.* I’ve visited Whitehall on 3 different occasions now. The first two times it was fantastic — solid 4 star food and 3 star drinks, which I’d round up to a 4 star review. However, on my last visit, the wheels came off. Ever get that intense, growing craving for a perfect hamburger? The kind of craving where you spend all afternoon scouring foodie blogs and websites to divine the perfect burger to meet your craving? It all started yesterday afternoon when I remembered Eight Mile Creek. That beloved Aussie bar in Nolita with«The Lot» burger, which was pretty much perfection. Fried egg, beet, etc. Sadly, Eight Mile closed a while back so that burger wasn’t an option. I began searching for alternative burgers in my neighborhood(it was pretty cold yesterday so a long walk wasn’t appealing). Every Top 10 Burger list mentions Minetta Tavern, of course, but there was a 30 minute wait for a seat at the bar on a Sunday night, so I had a choice of two back-ups. Little Owl, which was further from my apartment, or Whitehall, which was closer. One review I’d read mentioned that Whitehall’s burger doesn’t usually get the attention of other bistro burgers in NYC, but it should. Time Out NY listed it as one of the best new burgers in NYC in 2012(when will I learn to stop trusting those TONY clowns?). So I decided on Whitehall owing to its locale and the great food I’d had on two previous experiences. The burger took a while to come out. This should have been a warning sign as the place was not busy when I arrived, and a party that sat next to me at the bar received their appetizers before I got my burger despite them arriving a good 5 minutes after I ordered. I wasn’t in a hurry so I thought nothing of the delay. However, when the burger arrived(looking fantastic — see the photo I posted for evidence), the bun was cold. It appeared not to have been toasted or buttered or grilled or anything. Just a cold bun right out of the fridge(or wherever restaurants keep their hamburger buns). Not only was it cold — it was dried out. The burger itself, which I’d ordered medium, lacked any hint of pink in the center. Overcooked. The fried egg on top was also well done(dry crumbly yoke). The beet slice, side of pickles, cornichon garnish, and fries were all good, thus saving a 1 star review. But when you spend all day craving a burger, ante up $ 19 for one that has gotten some raves, you expect more than an over cooked mess on a cold, dry bun. I feel sorry for the cow that gave its life only to be ruined at the last possible moment, the farmer for having his meat treated so casually, the owner and chef for having made such a poor choice of grill man, and the bartender for having to deal with my morosity at having my craving left unsatisfied. Yes, I wrote that last part bit with a healthy bit of melodrama, but seriously. Skip the burger.

We live in the West Village and eat out 70% of evenings in the ‘hood. Hostess: Absolutely rude; we had a reservation, she told us that she needed the table back in two hours before we sat down. Two hours is plenty of time and it is really up to the restaurant to move the tables. They should have good control and not have an inexperienced college student tell us this in a snobby tone. Waitress: Not knowledgable; unprofessional. The waitress tried to explain that they serve half glass of prosecco because the glasses are much larger than normal champagne flutes. Food: OK. Drinks: Cocktails good; wine EXTREMELYBAD. Given the food is good, service is bad and the ample good restaurants in the West Village, Whitehall is not worth it. After the lame excuse of the half glass of prosecco, I asked if I could taste a glass of white wine. The waitress served it in a dessert glass. In all the years I’ve gone out, I have never seen such inexperienced staff! INSHORT: British food is done right in this surprisingly spacious Greenwich Village joint. The manager is incredibly accommodating, and the gin cocktails are particularly strong and flavorful, making it a great place for groups before a night out. THESTORY: I first walked into Whitehall by chance on a Saturday night with a big group after our reservation elsewhere went awry. With 10 of us and no reservation, we weren’t expecting much, but the hostess and manager quickly took us toward the back of the restaurant, rearranged some tables, and seated us immediately. The Roasted Chicken Breast was a big favorite, but don’t ignore the specials. That night I devoured fish and chips(perfectly fried to the point that the fish had pulled away from its batter and steamed slightly inside the crunchy fried pocket) and a side of mushy peas that couldn’t have been cooked any better. Definitely order a specialty cocktail to accompany your dinner. The East Side(with Bombay East gin, mint leaves, lime, and cucumber), the No. 4(with Greenalls gin, lime, basil, and black pepper), and the No. 12(with Barhill gin, honey-thyme syrup, ginger, and lemon) are house favorites, and sometimes necessary as the kitchen isn’t the quickest. It’s a restaurant that you’d be happy to return to when you’re not in a rush.

This is a cute little restaurant which serves decent food but to be honest I’m not really sold on this place. Everything was good but nothing really stood out… I expected more for the price. I had the $ 16 Whitehall Burger which was«OK», but for the same price I’d rather eat the burger from DBGB or Burger & Barrel. The most memorable dish was the bone marrow, that was 5 star worthy. The ambiance is cozy, somewhat hip and less pretentious than the neighboring restaurants«The Kingswood» and«Rosemary», and the waitress was very accommodating. This place is always crowded so I recommend to make a reservation even on a weekday.
