This review is for the basement level. Came here with a date. The place was very cozy and intimate. The music was the perfect volume, just enough to hear it while still being able to converse with others without screaming. We had the red sangria, and it was pretty amazing. I haven’t tried their food, but I would definitely come back to try it.

I went to go to Flamenco last night an it was boarded up. Did the Wine Spot close?

What a gem! I was looking for a comfortable place to meet some friends for drinks on a Monday night in the West Village and could not have been more pleased with the experience. Luckily we ordered before 9 pm to get a pitcher of delicious sangria for $ 33(3 generous glasses for each). The atmosphere was warm and our waitress was very sweet. I have to say the music could perhaps have been better– perhaps with some customer suggestions this could be improved. If you’re looking for a peaceful affordable place in a lovely little neighborhood, wine spot is a good find.

Ok, I’ll admit I just walked into this place, but I already love it! It’s a miserable pouring rain day in the city and I have an hour to kill. In the village there is nowhere to go quickly in this situation. I literally ducked into the doorway in order to send a text and noticed a fire and adorable looking front area w open kitchen. When i looked at the sign and read«wine bar» there was nothing more to decide! I was greeted by two super friendly waiters who helped me with my wet stuff and said pick any seat. I found a little table near the fire with an outlet right next to it. Yay! Just ordered a Pinot Grigio and am a happy girl so far. FYI they have a huge list of wines by the glass all $ 7.50−10.50. Rainy Friday night… ran out of several tea options on the menu as well as their desserts. Only 2 selections of beer and a very poor prosecco. Headache after one drink, from all three of the patrons at the table.

Apparently I made the tragic mistake of not coming here on a Thursday or Saturday night, because rather than listening to flamenco music while enjoying a fantastic glass of wine(as I had imagined), I was bombarded by old Gwen Stefani and Lady Gaga throwbacks that reminded me of middle school dances, and basically all my other teenage memories that I did not want to recall. Especially when I’m trying to have some wine. People call this place a «gem,» but I prefer to call it a conglomeration of all the things in the world that do not match. A giant fireplace filled with differently shaped LED candles, an awkwardly elevated dock with a one-person couch, just to name a few oddities of this place. And for a bar called Wine Spot, the wine menu wasn’t particularly impressive or informative. Nor could my waiter describe the California zinfadel besides that it was«very full-bodied.» Uh huh, please go on. For a better wining and dining experience, next time I’ll pick somewhere that can actually live up to its name.

While I don’t like the walk up from the West 4th train station, mostly because I don’t enjoy bumping into the loud and obnoxious people that crawl out of Fat Black Pussycat or the 3 Sheets Saloon, I do love escaping to the basement of the Wine Spot. At the Wine Spot you don’t have to worry about getting rushed out– even after an hour of just drinking one glass of wine. It’s a great place to have those long conversations that will strengthen your relationships. The ambiance is discreet and sexy, setting up the perfect scene for a casual rendezvous after work or class.

Tiny, romantic spot for a wine. The place also has a couple of beers and a limited drink menu. We didn’t eat here, so I cannot rate the food. Considering the number of loud and crowded NYU hangouts in the neighborhood, the Wine Spot is easy to recommend if you want a quieter, intimate drink in an old-school Greenwich Village setting.

This is a true gem of NYC — this is what I like about this city. Small unassuming places with fantastic food, ambience, and MUSIC!!! Yes, live music. One side Jazz and the other Flamenco — wow! Thursdays and Sundays there’s live Flamenco which I happened to stumble upon while walking by on evening. If you’re looking for something fun and unique to do in the village I highly recommend this place.

A glass of red wine at the end of the day always makes me feel like I’ve crossed the finish line. No matter what happened during the regular business hours, the night is mine. One of my favorite students wanted to meet me out for a drink tonight to celebrate her passing the bar exam. That is one occasion that I can certainly toast to, so I happily obliged. I picked the subway stop, and let her pick the bar. Maybe next time we will switch and I’ll let her pick the stop. This place was actually pretty cool inside. Mirrors and candles, with a fake fireplace on the ball wall, it created a relaxed but unique setting to grab a drink. We ordered a couple of red Chilean wines, which were promptly delivered. Actually, up until this point things were going well. We finished the glasses and they clearly sat empty on the table. For two hours. We were chatting and catching up. I get it that we looked like we were content and having fun, but really? It would have been lovely if someone… anyone… had come by to check on us. I kind of wanted another glass. Also, the wine turned our teeth purple. I hate that. Nice red wine doesn’t do that, just saying…

Came here on a whim. My friends and I ordered a large cheese and nuts(almonds and cashews) plate, and some wine. The owner was a fun sweetie, the server I don’t know much about that guy. He seem to not really care, and had no clue about the menu. Whenever I asked questions he would be like«I don’t know,» well then why don’t you go and ask your staff then, sir! I like how they use iPads to take down orders. The bathroom seems pretty old and small. I’d like to try out their other foods there, but when you’re in NYC and you meet a spot like this, you just gotta keep it moving in search of a 4 star«Yay! I’m a fan!» type spot that’ll make you want to come back repeatedly.

Wine Spot’s cozy basement was the place to go if you were in the mood for an intimate Flamenco show. This last go around however proved that what was isn’t anymore. What a shame. We arrived on time with one of our west coast friends and guitarist hoping to treat him to what my gf and I thought was the show that we experienced many times before – and that kept us coming back. We were seated and asked for menus. Sometime later a very personable but clueless waiter arrived to take our order. We ordered a bottle of Rioja(When in Iberia do as the Iberians I say), two charcuteries(Spanish and Italian) and the cheese platter. The cheese platter was excellent. The churcuteries however were not. The primary problem was that the cold cuts were cut too thick – a clear indication of an inexperienced slicer. Worse, they tasted rather neighborhood deli-esque rather than proper gourmet artisan charcuterie. The service was abominable. Our wine came very late and towards the middle of the 15 minute show. The charcuterie followed at the end with lots of lag time between each. This trend continued to the very end with the check. Again, the waiter was very nice but operated in two speeds: slow and stop. And what’s with the 15 minute show? I hope they return to the old format and either properly train the wait staff or hire more folks.

INSHORT: A quiet, intimate gem in Greenwich Village just steps from the park, Wine Spot is the perfect place to start your happy hour or end a romantic evening. Don’t miss out on the White Wine Cheese Platter. THESTORY: When I lived just around the corner, Wine Spot was my favorite place to take some girlfriends after work to indulge in spectacular wine and cheese. The décor is cute and cozy, taking you away from the clamor of the nightlife that occurs just south on Macdougal. If you’re not interested in wine(though how could you not be when it’s this good?), Wine Spot actually has an interesting and refreshing selection of cocktails all made with tea(from downstairs’ Tea Spot). Service is a bit hit or miss depending on the day of the week and who’s working. I unfortunately once had a waitress tell a group of friends and I quite rudely before we paid that she’d like a big tip since«that’s the only way we make money here.» I haven’t seen her since, but generally the bartender is quite helpful, and very willing to provide extra bread if you order any of the cheese plates. All in all, it’s been a great place for a low-key girls’ night out over some relaxing, large glasses of wine.

I think this is a good find, because it isn’t crowded. All of the wine is $ 7 but their website is outdated and the food was a bit more, but under 10 for small plates. I thought the meat platter was a bit overpriced but overall everything was decent. We had the sangria first and then the waitress recommended a bottle of red. She was incredibly sweet and friendly, checked in on us, letting us know the food was on the way, etc. When she overheard us say it was our friend’s birthday she even gave us a complimentary dessert-we got the brownie bites and they were a nice ending to our experience there. There are only a few small tables but I feel like it’s nice to go some place and actually be able to talk to the people you were with and feel pretty calm and relaxed even though you are right in the middle of the west village.

Came here with a few friends to check this place out, a huge part of the motivation to go here was the fact that it was called wine spot. The place is a bit tucked away from all the commotion but it is worth looking for. The bartender was attentive and very friendly upon entrance. He didn’t rush us while we were deciding what to order, in fact he even suggested a drink which turned out to be pretty good. He also gave a small glass to sample the drink before going ahead with making it. I got the Tropical Cyclone(i think it was called) and it hit the spot. There were remnants of tea mixed in with the drink which was very refreshing and pleasant to my taste buds. My friend got the Turkish Apple and was quite happy with how it turned out. Overall, the ambiance was mostly casual and was the perfect place for a catching up session. Will hit this place up again in the future to try more of their drinks.

Wine Spot is an inconspicuous wine bar/tapas spot in the middle of Greenwich Village, and it’s easily become one of my favorite little gems/secrets of the city. It’s the perfect after-dinner date spot if you want some privacy and a good space for conversation. Look for a chalkboard sign displaying their deal on Sangria and take a few steps to the lower level. It looks super dark inside, but it’s definitely open. For whatever reason, the business hours are listed incorrectly here. When I speak of after-dinner date spot, this place is about intimacy, privacy, and just having a low-key space for some conversation over wine, tapas and desserts. The space is nothing fancy and quite understated. It’s very dim inside with all burning candle lights to light up the space. Furniture and décor is mismatched antique. They have both tables with chairs and some comfy booth seating. In terms of the food/drinks, their menu is not extensive, but they have a selection of some really great dishes that pair perfectly with a glass of wine or Sangria. If anything, go with one of their assorted salumi and cheese platters. Highly recommend the platters with Manchego and Sheep cheese and Soppresatta. The platters have a great assortment, and it’s a perfect portion for sharing. In terms of their $ 7 Sangria, it’s very good; probably one of the better Sangrias I’ve had in the city. If you plan for dessert, definitely try the Tres Leches, the«three milks cake». A sponge cake soaked in 3 types of milk(condensed, whole, powdered), expect a very delightful and sweet treat. All in all, great little wine bar spot that’s probably unknown to most. Unlike a lot of other bars around the Village area, this one provides the perfect atmosphere for quiet, intimate conversations. I love coming here when I just want to relax over a nice glass of wine.

My wife and I love this place. It’s our favorite place to have wine and Spanish cured meats. The flamenco is some of the best I’ve ever seen/heard — very authentic and entertaining!

Wine and go down. Words found in many a West Indian soca song and also the perfect description of what you’ll find at and how to enter the Wine Spot: wine and go down a few stairs into a semi subterranean bastion of all things Bacchus. And it’s the kind of spot that feels like a plot would be unhatched here, with the very dim lighting, wooden floors and fire place. I could see Napoleon plotting his 100 Days here, Union generals pouring over cigar wrappers containing General Lee’s plans for Antietam or the Kardashians deciding where to open a new branch of Dash. Yet there was one jarring element that shook me out of my plotting and scheming fantasy: A-ha! Yes, the Norwegian pop band’s hit«Take on me» along with countless other 80’s hits, was blasting at full volume, suddenly shifting the vibe from sophisticated intrigue to one of pop nostalgia. Cognitive dissonance aside, I liked the Wine Spot and hold out a star for a return on a night when flamenco is offered. So what are you drinking? Well, wine would be the way to go here, as they offer $ 21 themed wine flights, like a tour of Italy, Spain or California.(I guess Australia still doesn’t get any respect). I had just finished dinner earlier so decided sipping on port would be appropriate. As a man approaches middle age(assuming an average lifespan of 78) and reflects on his life, port really becomes the after dinner drink of choice as opposed to youthful beer, shots, jello shots and kegs. It’s the bond of Portuguese fortification that extends across generations and made me feel like a officer in the Royal Navy saluting the Queen. The port was perfect and I also enjoyed my dessert order of Nutella cheesecake. $ 7 for the slice and $ 10 for the port and no cost for the totally awesome 80’s music. So either bring earplugs or embrace the juxtaposition, either way the wine will continue to flow.

Three words: THURSDAYNIGHTFLAMENCO! Freaking awesome. Food here is subpar. Wine? Meh. But the flamenco performance transported me to Sevilla Spain and had me wanting to get up and sensually dance with my statuesque Spanish lover playing the guitar… You know the quintessential Spanish lover. Must have long-ish hair. Must play guitar. Must never be taken seriously. Performances were great! The place is small so I do suggest coming early if you want a seat! Olé!!! Viva España!

Do you spot wine? I spotted it at Wine Spot! A lounge Tapas, wine bar that inhabits the lower level of this duo restaurant business where the upper level is Tea Spot – mainly to the soothing intake of aromatic tea. They have the most extensive wine menu I’ve encountered for the exclusive wine connoisseur in my lounge/bar fly days in NYC, regardless of borough, yet many are with great dismay out of stock as the Sauvignon Blanc for white and Grenache & Syrah for red. Full size wine glasses are distributed as there is no misery here. Pitchers of red Sangria are available. With a friend, dinner bestowed at Wine Spot at two separate visits for my Coppa Paninis of Brie cheese and Basil Pesto at $ 7.00 is good quality along with his Prosciutto Di Parma of Belpaese cheese and Fig confit at $ 7.00 were both served piping spawn hot. The soup of the day appears a permanent fix of potato soup, no other choices. The Chicken Satay was plentiful but the Malaysian peanut sauce was very watery and not thick or rich for an authentic flair accompanied by Chenin Blanc & Viognier, Pine Ridge 2011 at $ 10.00 glass, substituting for the vacant Sauvignon Blanc. My Ginger Lime Pie at $ 7.00 almost fends a similar concoction to taste as Key Lime Pie, but apparently not even close as there is only one Key Lime Pie. This first visit we sat by the false fire place comprising of varies pillar candles with a fire extinguisher visibly next to them where our bill totaled $ 45.00. My second visit with a friend consists of Sangiovese red wine at $ 10.00 also another substitute for the vacant Shiraz. My Mozzarella tomato and Basil Pesto Panini at $ 7.00 was rather dry as there were minimal Mozzarella melted, but again served piping spawn hot. My green mix salad with Parmigiano dressing, almond and dried cranberries at $ 7.00 was very enjoyable to be engulfed within mere minutes from sheer hunger pangs footing the bill totaling $ 33.00. Wait staff for both visits are courteous, friendly and very attentive without the abrasive or curtness. Wine Spot in the lower level is very intimate as lighting reverts from full beam to minimal light for a romantic feel. One single unisex facility exist in a very narrow corridor but is relatively clean. The porcelain throne is a step higher. Quaint and décor is rustic wood tables. One TV exist but is tune out to absorb the atmospheric conditions. I’d recommend Wine Spot for couples or wine connoisseurs when they are fully stocked again. Note: No beer or cocktails exist.
