A bit hard to find since it’s tucked in the Macy’s without a lot of clear signs, but the floor isn’t that big, so you can find it fairly easily after wandering around. If it makes a difference to you, it’s on the second floor, next to the West entrance. Went in looking for a specific pair of sunglasses, which they did have, but only as the floor model, and with a scratch on the lens. The salesperson tried his best to clean things up, but the scratch was still pretty evident. The idea of paying full retail for a pair that other people have tried on all week and with a scratch, just doesn’t sit quite right.

I stopped in Macys yesterday on a whim and decided to saunter over to the sunglass section, which by the way is basically an independent section of Macy’s. I have been in a Sunglass Hut before but never spent much time browsing. I had been wanting a new pair of shades and ended up checking out their Ray Bans. they had a good selection and prices were much better than Optical of Aspen. I had a terrific girl help me and I really appreciated her honest feedback, personality and knowledge of the merchandise. The selection is not huge but I ultimately found something I liked and bought it! Yipee

I stopped by Macy’s today to get some links taken out of a new watch, and stopped by the new(to me anyway) Sunglass Hut they opened near the Fine Jewelry department. For those of you that have never been to this Macy’s before, it is kind of like the underachieving little stepsister to the much better stocked South Coast Plaza store, so I was glad to see that they had finally opened a sunglass department separate from the little rack behind the belts and wallets that it used to be. Anyways I moved in to check out what was new, and was greeted immediately by Ryan, a true professional if there ever was one. He very patiently showed me from case to case, making suggestions and encouraging me to try on many pairs of glasses, which is quite the contrast to the spiteful stares that I used to get when apparently ruining the salesgirl’s «me time» with my shopping at the South Coast store. He cheerfully polished my old set of Marc Jacob Navigators, until we had settled on the new ones, nothing even similar to the Ray Ban Aviators I had initially planned on buying, but damn good looking if I might say. All around it was a ridiculously good retail experience, and because he had been so thorough and polite I smiled as he upsold me the care kit for an additional $ 10. Why not? He deserved it. So before you go checking the big store for your new pair of glasses, stop by this little new location, and look up Ryan if you are lucky enough to be in on his shift.
