New England Gemological Laboratory and Appraisal Services

I met Leslie George when my mother asked me to have a few pieces of her jewelry appraised. Based on my experience, I would recommend Leslie without hesitation. A Graduate Gemologist of the Gemological Institute of America and formerly with the Fine Jewelry Department of Skinner, Leslie operates out of a fully equipped gemological laboratory. I learned through the process that the laboratory equipment is essential to completing accurate appraisals. Leslie is extremely knowledgable, skilled and is the epitome of professionalism. I had to wait to get an appointment because she was at a week-​long seminar staying on top of updates in the gem and jewelry industry. You can sit with Leslie while she completes your appraisal if you wish, but I imagine you will be like me and realize after she explains things a bit, she is quite trustworthy and you’ll feel comfortable leaving your pieces. At conclusion of the process, Leslie provided a sense of the market and handed me a professional document with color photos and very clear documentation.
Anyone can hang a shingle and say they appraise jewelry (sadly). This lady really knows what she’s doing.

I first contacted Leslie via email to ask questions around her services. I had various pieces of jewelry from my grandmother’s estate and no idea if anything had any real value. Prior to contacting Leslie, I had great angst of this whole appraisal/​sale of items process. I didn’t want to feel foolish or be taken advantage of in any way. I had heard how you do not always get the true value of items if you go to a jeweler who then purchases these items. Leslie was very quick to reply to my email and honest around her fees. We scheduled an appt. and I brought my various items to her office for the consultation appt.
During our appt, Leslie was very respectful of all of the pieces. She tests items and uses her microscope with you in the room. I felt like she was very thorough, and any questionable items, she agreed to test further. She was always respectful– even when items were not authetic gems or gold. The items we did agree she would liquidate, she logged for insurance and then gave them approximate values.
Once the items were sold, Leslie promptly called me to inform me of the amount of the sale. There were a few pieces of jewelry I had left with her for appraisal– well, as it turns out, they really weren“t anything requiring insurance, and she was very honest about not going through an entire appraisal process as this would have cost me money. I felt she was very, very honest and I appreciated her placing my needs first.

Leslie is very professional, knowledgeable and friendly. She performed a very thorough appraisal on my engagement ring, which contains a family diamond that was over 100 years old. She educated me on the cut of the diamond and I learned a great deal about my ring thanks to Leslie. I would definitely recommend Leslie for appraisals!
