This place is neat! We were in H mart doing our grocery shopping and on our way out when my girlfriend noticed a sign for frozen ice(how or why she was interested in frozen ice when we’re in the middle of a Chicago winter I may never fully understand) but when we went to the storefront we found that their specialty is the walnut muffin! It’s unique — something like a pancake batter surrounds a red bean paste filling and a whole chunk of walnut. We also found that $ 2.99 now gets you only 8 cakes, which were delicious when still warm. I think it’s a great snack for anybody who loves red bean!

I love this place! Whenever we got o H-Mart, we always stop by and a get a nice little bag of warm walnut muffins. Yum! Be careful though the filling is really hot if they’re fresh off the conveyor belt. Also, they have shaved ice in the summer. We got the red bean shaved ice for about 5 dollars and it was huge! It had mochi on top and the ice was made from frozen milk so it was AWESOME! We ate it while walking around H-Mart. Delicious! Thanks Miga!

Located inside the Hmart Niles location, this bakery sells the Korean walnut deliciousness — hodo is basically a little pastry filled with red bean and a walnut, encased in a very soft sweet cake-like bread. It smells absolutely divine, and it is so delicious when it is right out of the oven. They individually wrap each walnut cake balls in its own tissue paper so they don’t stick to one another. You can also sometimes find their coupon in the Hmart coupon booklet that is sent via mail. +ask for FRESH ones! +look for the Hmart coupon +located in Hmart(by the lot)

Wow. The little walnut cake was unbelievably delicious fresh out of the oven conveyer. This little bakery is in HMart. You get 9 little cakes for 2.99. Just do it. I wanted one and I ate 5.

This store sells walnut cake(HODO means walnut in korean) which is quite an unfamiliar kind of dessert in the US. However, once you try this place you would love it. It is kind of walnut shape cake with red bean and walnut filling. It is very soft and sweet, but it wouldn’t be heavy or filling unless you eat too much of it(which I do sometimes). I know this place is virtually unknown to non koreans(or even some Koreans), but I thought this thing is too good to be left out. It is very inexpensive too. Give it a try and you won’t regret it.

Saw this and decided to give them a try. We first got 6 and my sister tried it on the spot and ordered 6 more. It’s shaped like a walnut with red bean paste and a walnut piece inside. I wouldn’t say I loved it, but it was different. It was nice and hot and you definitely taste all the ingredients. This is something to get once in awhile just for that different taste. Perhaps next time, we will try the other items they offer.

This place is one of the shops inside the Super H complex. I did NOT try the namesake treat, the walnut muffin. Instead we had patbingsu. Not the best I’ve had but still good, with lots of pat, and different colored pieces of duk, all for under $ 5, a perfect treat on a hot summer day. The owners are a nice kind couple.
