I came for a drastic cut to my long hair and a dark brown color. My other half bought me groupon to work with Aaron. I was a little skeptical at first because it’s been years since I’ve had my hair done and I’m super scared of working with new people. I understand everyone has mixed reviews but I thought Aaron was awesome! He was very attentive and it was easy to make small talk with him. It’s exactly how I wanted my hair! I will be returning for sure. Thank you Aaron!

Found this salon and Aaron through Groupon, and I’ve finally found a place I can get my hair done in Hampton Roads. He spent the time to cut and color my hair beautifully, listened to my concerns and is very knowledgeable about his craft. The salon is beautiful, and everyone was fantastic. I will definitely be returning.
Regarding someone’s experience with an «attitude» I cannot imagine that happening. My appointment was at 4, and my hair is so long and thick (and damaged) that we did not finish until 7. I then had a completely brain meltdown and just left after we were done-​no tip, nothing. I ran back the next day of course and he was so gracious about my embarrassing faux pas. I would have completely understood is he was upset at me but he was completely understanding.

In my attempt to find a new stylist after moving to the area, I left with a knot in my stomach and NOT the haircut I asked for. Aaron is very knowledgable, but he cut my hair how he wanted. When I kindly expressed my feelings about it, he said he likes it and it looks good on me. Ok… but I hate it and it’s MY hair. When I got home, I realized the sides are uneven. I attempted to schedule an appointment to get it fixed and I have yet to hear back. I will NEVER recommend this salon. EVER.

By far the worst experience I have ever had at any Hair Salon!
Since I worked right across the street I figured pay back to downtown Norfolk and get my hair down by a local business. I set the appointment a week ago and showed up just before 4. I was told by the receptionist that Aaron, the owner of the salon just left to get a coffee at starbucks. I made idle chit chat with the receptionist while looking at products in the waiting area. About 15 after Aaron meanders in, the receptionist says here he is, I then say with a chuckle «Oh you’re late» Aaron looks at me throws up his hands and says I am not doing your hair. I looked at him as if he was joking but the owner, Aaron, kept up his drama queen episode and that he would not do peoples hair that «annoyed» him.
Hopefully there are other competent stylist that are well behaved, mature and know what customer service is like.
So very glad he did not cut my hair. Since he is not mature enough to keep his emotions in check, show up on time for an appointment and shows no respect to name a few.
Hopefully I will find someone that know how to treat a customer in a mostly customer driven business.

I had my hair cut and highlighted last week by Visions owner Aaron. It is the best cut I’ve ever had! Aaron didn’t just cut my hair, he walked me through everything he was doing and took the time to teach me about my very fine hair and how to take care of it to get the styling results I want. I will definitely be going back. I highly recommend this salon and Aaron, in particular!

Not a very satisfied customer. I got my hair cut a little over a month ago at Visions, and I am still disappointed. I read the reviews before purchasing my groupon, and was excited to get my hair trimmed. I showed Aaron a picture of what I wanted my hair to look like (I had gotten a great cut in January from another salon and just needed some touch ups).
Instead of following the picture, Aaron took it upon himself to cut more hair than I wanted and put extensive and extreme layers all over my hair. If the stylist had bothered to consult me on my hair texture, how I normally wear it, and how it dries, this would not have been a problem. He would have learned that my wavy hair does not do well with layers.
I always like my hair best after I style it myself, but even after a month of stylings, I am still upset with my hair. There is basically a «shelf» where one layer hits the next. He thinned out my beautifully thick hair too much, and it is impossible to style now.
I was hoping that my hair would grow into this cut, but it has not. I will not be returning to Visions Hair Studio.

This is a cute little salon above O’Malley’s bar, and had I not purchased the Groupon and looked up the location, I wouldn’t have known it was there. You can attempt street parking, or park in the Plume St garage.
My appointment was for a cut and a color with Aaron. I have super long, thick hair and I’m sure Aaron cringed when he saw me take my hair down from my messy bun, but he was a good sport about it. I wanted to take my highlighted hair back to my natural (almost black) color, and Aaron was very confident about doing this.
While Aaron wasn’t much of a talker, he definitely knows what he’s doing, and explained to me about all of the products he was using on my mane, and why.
I was satisfied with my color and my cut, although the cut wasn’t much of a difference and was more like a trim. If you’re looking for a new stylist, I’d recommend giving Aaron a try, just don’t go expecting to chit-​chat.

After searching for several years, I think I finally found «my» salon in Norfolk. I have tried many of the other places in Ghent, and was just not quite satisfied with either the customer service or the quality of the services. I didn’t want to drive all the way to Virginia Beach, so I continued looking, using Groupon offers as my guide.
I purchased a Groupon here for a color and cut, and had to wait almost two months to get an appointment. Part of that was due to my lack of availability — I probably could have gotten an appointment on a weekday within two weeks of calling, but I needed a Saturday, and there were some that I was out of town. Overall, not too difficult to get in to if you can be flexible.
I arrived a few minutes early, and my stylist, Aaron had not yet arrived for the day. I thought that was a little odd, but reserved judgement, and I’m glad I did. When he did take me back to his chair, I showed him some examples of reds that I liked and thought would look good on me. He showed me some color swatches after looking at my input. I gave him some free-​reign with the cut, as long as it was mostly a trim of my longer hair — I was only looking to make a color change, not a huge style change.
I’m not a particularly chatty person when it comes to being in the salon, but we made some small talk that wasn’t terribly awkward. Usually, I find salon chatting annoying, but I enjoyed talking to Aaron about restaurant recommendations and living in Norfolk. He told me all about the products he was using on my hair and how they are beneficial, which I appreciated. I ended up buying the shampoo that he used on my hair because it made it feel so nice!
I was very pleased with the cut as well — he de-​bulked my thick hair, cut some nice layers, and even when I followed my usual routine the following day, it worked very nicely. Obviously it didn’t look as good as when he did it, but I think an indicator of a good haircut is whether I can make it look reasonably good after the fact.
Like I said at the beginning, I think I found «my» salon. Now I just wish I wasn’t going to be moving so soon…

I got a groupon deal and it was the best decision ever. I’m so glad I waited and didn’t cancel. Aaron did my hair well after the shop was closed I love the color he picked I gave him free range on that and I told him what I wanted for a cut and he did beyond what I expected. Love it ! All my friends took notice def be coming back :)

Worst hair experience of my life. I have never been treated so poorly. Aaron (the owner) did my hair and was constantly pulling it. He could tell that I was in discomfort, it was obvious. While he was shampooing my hair I asked him to stop because it was hurting. He threw the comb down and then told me to leave. He said he was done and that he was sorry but he had a rough week. I didn’t get everything done that I paid for and will have to contact groupon to get my money back. One of the ladies was nice enough to blow dry my hair so I didn’t leave wet. I left the building crying because he was so rude. The girls are really nice so if you insist on going their make sure you book with one of them and not Aaron. As a mommy I hardly ever get out so it was suppose to be a treat to get my hair done and i was treated like this. I was so upset. Never coming here again. So unprofessional coming from someone who is the owner.

After seeing this place only had a few stars I was hesitant to make an appointment. My last haircut came from another Norfolk salon and I was happy with the service; however at 1 a.m. I was browsing Unilocal and saw Visions allowed customers to book an appointment over the internet. I was all like, «Yes, please!» The only time I think about making a hair appointment is after 10 p.m.- having the ability to request a time slot online is freaking awesome. The salon replied promptly and it was a painless experience.
On Saturday I arrived for my appointment. I really appreciate they had the business marked clearly from the street. Ariel was ready exactly on time for my appointment– it was awesome I didn’t have to wait. I was seated in the chair and showed her three photos of haircuts I was thinking about. She asked me a few questions and told me what she felt would be best for me. She then took me back to wash my hair and gave me a great scalp massage (see Laura’s review for a play by play).
When I sat down in the chair I’ll admit, I was a little nervous. Usually a the person cutting my hair asks where my part naturally goes– Ariel kept moving it around which I’ve never had a stylist do. I decided not to say anything and am so glad I didn’t. She knew what she was doing. The haircut turned out great and I am beyond happy.
Overall, I had a great experience and they’ve won me over with their convenient booking and great haircut services.

I purchased a coupon through Living Social for a Brazilian wax (a complete removal of ALL the hair from my lady parts). I have been getting this wax for over 3 years now and the deal through LS was so good that I figured I would try a new place. Christine is the woman who helped me, she was very sweet. It was not her personality that I had a problem with but her LACK of skill. When I was finished with the service I still had hair in some places, but I figured that maybe I had a little bit of wax stuck to by skin and once I got home and showered it would all come off. BOY! Was I wrong. After the shower I saw that I had sections of hair that had not been removed at all in more than one or two areas. Not only that but a fun little surprise was a giant clump hair that was matted down with wax. Let me explain trying to rip wax off your vagina that is not hot is like… hmmm well it’s like trying to rip cold wax off your vagina. Painful to say the least. I was pretty upset the next day so I placed a call to the manager. I was told «Well I am so sorry for your experience, but (she giggles uncomfortably) I am not sure what you would like me to do about this…(long pause). I guess I could call the owner and see if he wants to do anything else, but like we do not actually collect any money from the Living Social coupons.» Ummm what! Are you kidding me! I have worked a Spa before. There is always something you can do. I was really appalled at the way this so called «Manager» acted. I will never go back here Living Social coupon or not. It was not worth it all! Do not waste your time or money.

After reading Laura’s novel of a review, I decided that my mess of a hair needed to be fixed by Visions. I called to make an appointment and Ariel was available. Works for me; thanks Laura!
Visions is very close to MacArthur Mall and it shares a building with a production company, but I never heard any noise from the production company. I didn’t encounter any vagrants, just plenty of parking options in a relatively annoying parking area.
Ariel and I were talking while she was washing my hair and then my communication ceased immediately once she started to massage my head in a way that I’ve never experienced! Ooh la la!
I showed her some pictures of what I wanted, and she knew exactly what to do. The product was nice, but I like *how* she cut my hair. Without asking for it, she cut my hair in a way that allows for so much versatility. It was a really nice job! I’ll come back to Ariel.
I bought a LivingSocial coupon for the manicure/​pedicure, and I’m excited to get my nails done.

This was hands down the worst salon experience I have ever encountered. I’ve been getting brazilian waxes for years, and usually go to changes, but decided to give visions a try because of the «amazing deal» offered on living social — $ 32 for a brazilian bikini wax. Visions usually charges $ 70 for this service. They are located behind a bar — there are vagrants hanging around outside the building and you can hear the music from the bar inside the salon. When I was shown into the waxing room, I saw that the sheet on the bed was dirty and covered with yellow stains and hair. I should have left immediately… I don’t know what I was thinking. The staff changed the sheets and put down a sheet of paper after I complained. The technician only used hard wax (she didnt offer to use anything else until I asked). It took her 50 minutes and she did not even wax many areas and left patches of hair all over. I look as if I have mange. I finally said that I had an appointment and I had to leave… I just couldn’t put up with it anymore. The guy at the desk didn’t know how to use the computer system, and it took three people to get it working. Stay very far away from this «salon».

I moved to Norfolk from San Diego a year ago. In the past year I have tried 5 different hair salons in Hampton Roads area spending anywhere from $ 35 to $ 125. I kept trying new places because I wasn’t happy with any of them. Then on my 6^th try, I found THE ONE. Tori was my hairdresser and I couldn’t have been happier with the result. She was new to Vision Salon but not to the world of hair. She was able to figure me out 10 minutes into our conversation and gave me the haircut that I had pictured in my head. She was very friendly and easy to talk to. My search for the hairstylist is now finally over. I am sticking with this one — she is the one! :)

Summer was murdering my locks, and so I made an appointment to get a haircut at Visions. I’ve tried a number of hair salons around Norfolk, and admittedly what attracted me to Visions was because I liked the paper lanterns hanging in their front window. That’s right. Lanterns determined whom I was letting take a pair of shears around my face. I will not be shamed.
I booked an appointment online — it was easy, and the receptionist got back with me within an hour or so to see what times I had available. I got a text the next day confirming my appointment for the following day. To recap: I booked an appointment and didn’t have to speak to a single human being. It was like magic. Or robots. Robot magic.
Ariel was my stylist. She was sweet without being overly chatty, and thus I avoided having to make conversation about how much I like cats and my feelings on summer squash. The. Worst. When she shampooed me, she gave a scalp massage that I swear I needed to leave $ 200 on her nightstand for. While this was going on, Huey Lewis was playing in the background. This moment satisfied roughly 28 of my life goals simultaneously, the least of which being having my head scratched while a dulcet-​toned Huey Lewis sang about this being it.
When it came down to the cut, Ariel knew exactly what I wanted, even though I think my exact words were, «I want it cut real nice.» She had good instincts, and checked in with me every so often to let me know how she was going to stack my hair and at what level my bangs would be at. There was a apprentice watching, too, and Ariel explained what she was doing to my hair; she sounded very competent, which was a relief to me as I had taken my glasses off and couldn’t see, as the French say, «damn near nothin’, y’all.» As a blur went around the chair (Ariel?) shortening my hair with metal snippers (scissors?), I tried to relax. And squint. And when squinting didn’t work, I tried to relax again.
She blew my hair out beautifully, and gave me tips on how to do it at home (which were great — I can replicate it with near-​precision).
I am terribly attractive now. Men — men I don’t know — are buying me drinks, electronics, entire living sets. Ladies have stopped me in the street while cars are coming at high speeds to ask how I got my bangs so perfect. The answer: Visions.
Also the staff was really nice to the UPS man. If you’re not nice to the people who deliver things to you in 100-​degree heat, you’re probably not worth a turd.
So, in conclusion, Visions Hair Studio: worth more than a turd.
Seriously. Go. Unless you want to keep looking like that.
