Absolutely love my color… Emily is amazing and when I say amazing, I really mean amazing. The color looks like it did when I was 10 years old. It’s beautiful. I get so many compliments. She’s a miracle worker. This is a top-​notch salon… very private… very quiet… very low-​key but elegant.

Jessica is new at Memo and AMAZING!!! She’s been my go to stylists for 6+ years now and I have never had a complaint! She’s patient, listens to ideas and incorporates her own into your hair. She’s amazing at cuts, color, styling + make up, and BROWS!!! She is a true artist. This space is nice, calm, clean and inviting. A very peaceful space with awesome professionals with a nice smile on their faces!

I’d like to add my praise for Karen.
A little background: I am pretty much as low maintenance as you can get with hair and I have A LOT of it, even with one side shaved. It usually gets cut the same way you’d cut any hair (that’s half the density of mine) so it never lays quite the way I want it to. After getting my hair cut, it usually takes me a week or two to find something that works well for my style and lifestyle, then once it grows out it lives in a bun or a braid until it gets unmanageably long and I’m forced to cut it. It’s an obnoxious cycle, hence the low maintenance.
Karen took so much care cutting my whole head of hair bit by bit, constantly checking to make sure the length/​shape/​texture were what I wanted. It’s the first time I’ve felt like my hair was being cut according to its particular qualities. It lays perfectly. I put some effort into it after I wash it, then it looks amazing until I wash it again a few days later. So good. So worth it. Thank you Karen, I love you.

This place is beautiful, clean and relaxing! I have been seeing Emily at Memo Salon for several years and she has ALWAYS given me GREAT haircuts and FANTASTIC advice on color! I HIGHLY recommend Memo to men and women! I have never seen one bad haircut walk out of there!!!

I was referred to Karen by a female band mate who said she had the best stylist and ensured that I would be in great hands. I have to agree Karen has a great eye and taste. She has helped me achieve the challenging balance between a classic cut with edgy color that doesn’t look lame or generic. The salon is super chill and chic too. Plus there are cool places to eat near by. Definitely going back!

Pssst– There’s a couple spaces of parking past the parking lot that is 2 hour limit without meters!
The space is minimalistic and really nice– beautiful big skylight above.
I came in for a haircut by lovely Karen. I went in with medium-​short chest length hair and walked out with hair above my shoulders– just what I wanted! Her technique is so interesting to watch as she takes small chunks of hair and carefully cuts each one. Karen constantly checks in on you to make sure the length and texture is alright– even intentionally cut it a little longer than I wanted to make sure I was comfortable with proceeding. The end result looks and feels great!
There are about 8 hair salons within a quarter mile radius of me but driving a few more miles to North Hollywood is definitely worth it for this salon!

I’ve been seeing either either Emily (now) or Laura (before she had her baby) since before Memo Salon even existed. I didn’t hesitate to follow them when Emily opened Memo years ago. I simply love this place, the entire staff, and the amazing work that they do, and I don’t believe for a second what that one negative reviewer wrote — sounds like a fake review to me, as I know none of the women at Memo would behave like that. Memo even texts you confirmation of your appointments and reminds you via text prior. I know all the stylists there, Emily, Laura, Karen, Kimi… they are the most professional, talented, sweetest women around.
As for my hair… to say I get compliments on my hair would be an understatement. I think some would say I’m almost «known» for my hair. Somehow, Emily and Laura have been able to match my childhood color of a golden blond perfectly. I have long, layered hair, and have never been disappointed with the cut. On the rare occasion when I’ve wanted to try something different, they have given me great advice on what would or would not work for both my hair and my face. I trust them. Invaluable.
Emily, by the way, has also created a line of paint on hair colors (Emily had gorgeous lavender hair long before Katy Perry brought hair color to a new level). Emily’s product, WaterColor, is sold at Urban Outfitters and has fun hues in a bunch of different colors.
Parking is easy, with a metered lot adjacent that takes cash or credit card. If the lot is full, there is a lot of street parking in the neighborhood.
Finally, the prices at Memo are SOOO reasonable! Maybe fifteen years ago, before I first saw Laura, I would pay a small fortune for my cut/color…I get my color done now every three weeks, a cut every other time, and I spend less in two months than I would have spent in one visit before.
I really can’t recommend Memo Salon enough; I’d give them more stars if I could.

Where are 6 stars when you need ‘em?! Memo salon has the best stylists in the LÁ area. While everyone here are pros, I’m partial to Emily. She is a color master. Years ago, she started the light color trend with her line of hair color called WaterColor (you can get it at urban outfitters). Teeny Karen has also given me a cut and is a raising star at Memo. I came in years ago with the problem of my blond hair being unhealthy. Now I leave like I’m in a Pantene commercial. They are fashion forward, while always taking into consideration the health of your hair. The salon itself has tall ceilings, skylights that fill the place with gorgeous natural light, and a great ambiance.
It definitely isn’t the cheapest salon, but it is the best. You absolutely can’t go wrong.

I don’t even want leave one star for this place.
I made an appointment in the morning of Sunday March 29^th. I got a confirmation and I showed up after 20min drive. But the salon was closed. So I called but the operator was very rude and didn’t even help I this situation and ends up telling me «I don’t want to deal with you, bye!!»
Made my day completely ruined. Don’t go to this place people.

Not only is she talented but she actually listens to you about what you want. She’s also always spot-​on with suggestions about what will work and what won’t. Believe me, not all stylists can do this. She’s also the sweetest person you will ever meet. Not fake L.A.-sweet but like genuine out-​of-​state sweet. Lol
I’ve since moved away from the area but I still come here and make the 1-​hour drive because I don’t trust anyone else.

Haircut by Kimi! She did an amazing job — the cut and style turned out better than the reference photo I showed her. I also like that she used a dry cut technique to really get all of the split ends first. She was knowledgeable and precise — will definitely go back to see her!

I came to Memo Salon with a Groupon. I was a little weary because last time I cut my hair with a Groupon, it didn’t go well. This time was totally different! Karen cut my hair and took the time to walk me through everything to make sure I got the cut and style that I wanted. I’m very happy with my hair and will definitely return!

Just went here this morning and saw Karen. She is amazing! Always checking in to make sure I was liking the direction she was going with the cut and made some adjustments along the way. The end result is I’m in love with my hair and will be back to see Karen at Memo!!!

Memo Salon seriously is a hidden gem in the NoHo Arts District. I’ve driven through that area so many times without realizing what it was, until walking by one day on the way to stuffing my face at Pitfire Pizza, I realized it was a salon! Thankfully, now I got the memo! hehe
I’ve been seeing Kimi here for the last two years or so and she does a great job every time. Better yet, she’s really easy to talk to and definitely takes the time to not only ask what I want, but how much time I want to spend styling my hair so she can figure out if the cut I want will fit my lifestyle. Sometimes I don’t know what I want and Kimi has taken the time to show me what she thought would look good on me. I was a bit hesitant about her latest suggestion (change is hard!), but it actually turned out really cool and I swear the guys at my office now have variations of the same cut because they saw mine!
Every time I’ve been to Memo, the vibe is really warm and welcoming. You have no idea how much I appreciate that. I’ve been to other salons in LA and I’m appalled to see stylists openly talking crap about people in front of their customers or acting like the salon is some weird extension of high school where they can be catty to each other. Memo is NOT like this at all. In the times that I’ve been in the chair there, it seems like everyone really enjoys each other’s company and I appreciate that although I look rather bummy when I come to the salon (I work at a web design company, so I’m usually dressed very casually), no one is judgy about it and everyone says hi to my bummy self anyway.
There’s been a few times when Kimi has been unavailable, so I’ve seen Karen (who has been equally nice and did a great job as well). As a sidebar, I would have no problem seeing any of the other stylists as well. Watching the other stylists interact with their clients, clients all seemed very pleased with their cuts so I’m sure everyone there is very talented.
PARKING: There’s a small metered parking lot located right next to the salon. Pay attention to the signs, I didn’t realize that the stalls located on the outside rows could be reserved all day for $ 2.50, whereas the rows in the middle have a maximum of 2 hours. I prefer the outside rows so I can grab a cup of coffee nearby with spiffy looking hair (in bummy clothes. Does that make me a hipster? NAAAH. Just kidding).

I had an appointment yesterday for highlights. I knew what I wanted (vaguely, based on a photo) but wasn’t really sure how it could be executed or maintained.
Emily sat with me for a good ten minutes, talking out not just what I was asking for, but the overall look and stye I was trying to achieve, what image I project, and the level of maintenance I was willing to commit to. I appreciated the fact that she was trying to get to know ME instead of just trying to copy a photograph – and the time she spent really showed in the results. I got exactly what I wanted, and am so happy with the color! I will definitely be going back in the future.
Four stars only because the haircut (I asked for a trim before she started) was quite pricy, though the charge for the highlights was well worth it.

I came to Emily with fried hair that had been bleached so harshly it had the texture of cotton candy when wet. No bueno. In the year and a half I’ve been coming to see her, my hair is long, healthy, thick, and a compliment magnet. Fab color, cut, and stylists who really listen. Like REALLY listen. Emily & Co. advise you on the right hair cut, treatments, and color to ensure your hair is the healthiest it can be in a style that will have heads turning and jaws dropping.
After spending my first 6 years in Los Angeles searching in vain for a brilliant hairstylist, I am so glad to have finally found Memo Salon.

After a rather unfortunate experience with John Freida’s «Lighten Up» (Read: the 21^st Century’s Sun-​In), my hair was breaking and yellow. Not blonde, straight sunshine yellow. I had no choice but to hack it all off, but i still have a ton of breakage. My stylist at the salon, Keri has slowly been nurturing my damaged hair back to life. The bright yellow is long since toned down, into a reasonable, pretty blonde, and she’s cut it into a believable hair style as it continues to grow out. My hair is getting healthier, and better looking by the day. Keri rocks!

I got the bloomspot deal for the all over color and the balayage highlights with Keri. She is wonderful! I have been on the hunt for a new hair stylist for over a year now, and each time, i got something so off I needed to go back. It was so great, because she listened to me. and then figured out what she was going to do and talked me through it. lol! she was awesome and I love my hair. Definitely going to her again.

I purchased a Bloomspot deal for highlights and a blow-​out with Keri, and was able to schedule an appointment for the afternoon the next day. I was looking for something to do on my own that would help me relax and get my mind off of things, and getting something done with whatever you want to call what’s on top of my head was long overdue. The package deal seemed great, so I was excited to make the small trek to NoHo.
Parking was easy, paid lot right next door — $ 1 for two hours. The woman at the front desk was very friendly and had asked if I wanted anything to drink. I was a few minutes early, so I hung out and listened to the sounds of a busy salon — basically chatter and hair dryers. Not long after, I was directed to a place to change into a robe and to take a seat. Keri — can I just call her the «miracle-​maker» — came out and introduced herself, then got started.
I didn’t fully disclose this at first, but I really didn’t know what I wanted to do with my hair. I bought the package for highlights, but I didn’t know what they were (had never gotten them before), and what my head was suitable for. But, I told Keri I just needed something a bit different that wouldn’t confuse people, and she got started. I had grown out my hair for more than a year after donating it, and with a few attempts to even it out over the last few months, had finally gotten it to a length I could so something with. She ended up evening it out even further — so the highlights wouldn’t look too weird — and then proceeded with the lightening.
For about an hour, I went without my glasses, and I’m almost legally blind without them. But I knew it was going to be great! And, the result was so much more than I had ever imagined! Since leaving the salon, I’ve gotten so many compliments on the color and cut, I’ve forwarded her information many times. She even helped with with a couple of product and style tips (can I just say «Texas»?), and they have honestly made getting ready in the morning more efficient, and my hair has never looked or felt so fantastic before!
I’m determined to go back as soon as I know I need a cut or a color. Keri @ Memo is the best!!!

I really wasn’t too pleased with my experience at Memo.
First off, let me just say that Keri was AMAZING! I really enjoyed talking to her and I love what she did with my hair. She was great.
My best friend and I were looking for a swanky salon that would make us feel like celebrities. We looked on Unilocal to find such a place and Memo ended up being our second choice. We thought that since they charged $ 85 for wash/​cut/​dry that they MUST be amazing. I called the salon and I said, «I would like to book 2 appointments for 2:30.» Meaning, at the same time but as it turns out, they had booked us one right after the other. I guess I should have known when Keri said, «Who’s going to go first?» But I trusted that they knew what they were doing.
The salon itself wasn’t exciting at all. It was very bland and a bit boring. No bright or engaging colors, nothing on the walls. Just nothing personal to tell me that these people really love coming to work.
Anyway, Keri explained that she was going to cut my hair dry and then wash and blow dry. After about 20 minutes of doing my hair, I realized that my friend was just sitting there and no one was helping her. I could tell that she was a bit peeved.
There were only 2 stylists there and no one offered her any water or asked if she was comfortable. I was getting anxious because it was a very uncomfortable situation and I just wanted Keri to finish so I could leave. Finally I said, «Is someone going to cut my friend’s hair?» And Keri said, «No, we booked you one right after the other.» I explained that this was something that we were not made aware of. (It makes no sense to book appointments this way, ESPECIALLY when they KNEW we were coming together; because then, my friend has to wait for me and I have to wait for her and we end up just wasting an hour and a half because someone wasn’t thinking strategically. They should value their client’s time and make sure that the client is ok with being booked one right after the other. Or, say something like, «I have one appointment at 2:30 and one appointment at 3:30.»)
I just had to get out of there so I said, «Instead of washing my hair I think we are just going to leave.» I didn’t even get to enjoy my wash (which is the BEST part) because of this «Dry cutting» business. Keri was nice enough to knock off $ 20 for not washing or blow drying my hair. Thank goodness too because that would have been the last straw.
Over all, the styling was great but the experience, price and atmosphere just wasn’t worth it and it was a waste of our time. I would pass on this salon.
