After receiving a glowing recommendation from a neighbor, I went to Dr. Hanks with my father, who was suffering from lower back pain from a small injury.
My father is older and neither of us is very knowledgeable about back injuries, but I’m the kind of person who takes copious notes and then looks everything up on the internet to fill in the gaps.
Dr. Hanks really impressed me! He is a strong, gentle, personable man and he provided a wealth of knowledge in gradual layers, so that we could slowly absorb what he said and then he would dig deeper (much like chiropractic!) into scientific names and more complicated concepts. In two short visits, we learned so much about spinal anatomy and the specifics of my dad’s injuries! Plus, he did some electrical treatment and some manual adjustments that eased my dad’s pain.
I haven’t got a lot of personal experience with chiropractors and have heard all the stories about quacks and heroes in the field. I think that Dr. Hanks is probably one of the heroes… really good at listening and providing the right amount of information for his patients to understand and feel better. I like doctors who, instead of talking down to me, try to bring me up to their level… so I can be a partner in my own well-​being, or in this case, my father’s.
