Access Health – Oakland

Not sure why it says the location is closed on here, but I just went here today for a consultation with Dr. Liang. The SF location had closed and I had always been going there because I was always so pleased with their flexibility and services. When I found out the only location was in Oakland I made the special trip just to go to this clinic and I had the best experience. Dr. Liang took the time to diagnose me and talk to me about my symptoms and then how to proceed with medication (turns out I have bronchitis and an infection, nothing too serious) he was very attentive, friendly, professional, and thorough. The prices were very affordable and reasonable for someone who doesn’t have health insurance. I strongly recommend this clinic if you ever want to get quickly checked out or for anything else! Thank you for treating me Dr. Liang!

Closed — now only San Mateo This place was awesome and professional and for 90 bucks is well worth it if you don’t have insurance.

I went in after a phone call to verify doctor was available, reception was great but there was a little man names «Ricardo» a PA not a doctor, I asked to speak to Doctor, he got real rude with me, acted like he was going to hit me, threatened to call the police, «I then asked him to» asked why he was so angry and have never been treated like that anywhere in my life.
I found out he’s a PA for either Dr. Marshall or Dr. Gorman. I going to file a complaint with the Medical Board.
I felt threatened while I was sick, people have bad days, but anger and threats are not the way to go.

I went today because I am so tired of being sick. I don’t have insurance, so I was desperately searching for a clinic to visit. The reviews on here were pretty promising, so I took the chance. Just as a warning, it can be hard to find parking and the neighborhood is a little sketch. Walk quickly. The clinic is inside of a little store. The woman that worked at the desk was very nice. I made the appointment for 1:00 pm and had to wait a while for my actual consultation. However, once I got into the office, the doctor was so nice and brilliant. He helped me and explained everything thoroughly. In all, I think I would go back. Side note, the appointment itself is $ 89.99. I would say that’s not too bad.

I was hesitant to go here but I was new to the area and the free clinic in Berkeley couldn’t help me. They were compassionate, professional, courteous and clean. Not only did they treat me for my UTI but also took the time to address my high blood pressure medicine. I had seen my family doctor before I moved and paid $ 185 to have it checked out. Even though I had a high reading, they felt it was «good enough.» Thank goodness Dr. Laurie took the time to adjust my medication. I have since been back, but even though she has moved on, I was seen by their new physician and he too was wonderful! High quality care for a fair price. Don’t hesitate — GO!

$ 89.99 and I was in and out in 30 min. I loved how fast these guys were. I went to Kaiser ER and waited 3 hours before giving up and leaving. While waiting I found these guys on Unilocal and tried to book an appointment online. The website calendar didn’t load for me, so I sent in a web form asking if I could come in around noon the next day.
When I woke up I got a prompt reply back letting me know they had saved me a spot at noon, and to confirm back. I did and then went in,.
The doctor was really great — knowledgeable, and was able to suggest antibiotics that would be affordable, and give me additional refill scripts so I would not need to come back in and pay again.
I will defiantly come here again.
Parking tip: Park at the Fruitvale Bart Station, then walk through the little mall (pedestrian only pathway with shops on each side), and they are in the pharmacy at the end of the strip that’s on Intl Blvd.

I walked in and was seen within 15 minutes. Laurie, the Dr., was very competent and really listened to where I was with my illness. Explained what she was prescribing and what I should expect, as well as what to look for in the event that my illness took a turn for the worse. Total I paid around $ 125 for the visit and for an inhaler (the visit is $ 89 off the bat). Not bad for no-​insurance care! Follow up visits (visits within then next two weeks) are at a discounted rate of $ 45. This will definitely be where I go again if I need the same kind of help in the future.

Despite having health insurance, I ended up needing urgent care and found myself in the very capable hands of Sarah V., one of their PA’s. She made me feel comfortable immediately and was able to quickly diagnose and treat me at a very reasonable cost! I highly recommend her services as she has great bedside manners and a no-​nonsense approach to healthcare. I will definitely come back to this clinic!

Went in for a suspected bladder infection. The NP was very nice and so was the front office. I would recommend this place if you are needing a med check or minute clinic.

I have to say I was hesitant to visit being that they are in an unfamiliar part of town and located in a drug store but thanks to the Unilocalers before me I decided to go for it and I was absolutely not disappointed!
I went in for a basic appointment and to get refills I was prescribed a month ago for an anxiety disorder. I saw Laurie Strasburger and she was an absolute god send. She listened to all of my concerns and spent time talking to me and explaining how my care plan should continue. When I was first diagnosed a month ago at a different clinic the doctor didn’t listen to a word I said and just pushed pills at me. Laurie was thorough and explained why she felt it was urgent that I had labs done to make sure we weren’t just putting a band aid on an underlying undiagnosed problem. I was in and out with a full lab panel, prescription refills and peace of mind in less than an hour for a very reasonable price. She even said my labs would be back by tomorrow morning and she’d call with results.
If you don’t have insurance and are worried about paying too much or have had bad experiences at clinics in the past I’d absolutely recommend coming here. Professional, clean, understanding and plesant. Better than the primary care physician I had when I did have insurance. Every positive Unilocal you have read is true. I can’t thank them enough.
Note: I did make an appointment so walk in times might be longer, BUT I made the appointment the night before online and there were plenty of slots available.

Super convenient and clean. I visited Access Health today to get a test done for work and it was super fast. I was quite happy to get a last minute, same day appointment. Despite me being 20 minutes late, the receptionist was super nice and friendly. I filled out a couple papers, paid, and immediately got the test done. The whole visit was less than 30 minute. I will definitely get future test done here.

I went here today. It is in a store, but they have a section in the back of it. The staff was really friendly, saw me immediately and I have no complaints. I recommend it and when I have to get another TB test I will come back.

I had to take mother in — she was visiting from India and had temporary deafness. The PA over there (Laurie) was gentle, kind and efficient, quickly diagnosed her, and even though we had to make 2 visits to completely rectify the problem, only billed us consultation fees for the first visit and we only had to pay the procedure’s fee on the second visit. They resolved the problem for us for under $ 150, and are really nice, courteous and friendly to boot.
I highly recommend for treating minor ailments, especially if you don’t have great insurance cover.

Hats off to this place for providing health care at affordable prices to people who don’t have insurance (or will never hit their high deductible). Walk-​in, too, and bilingual.
I’ve had two experiences with this place. The first was when my wife was between jobs, and we didn’t have health insurance, and I came down with some very distressing gastrointestinal issues that turned out to be Diverticulitis. I saw a very professional nurse practitioner who did some exams, and then referred me for a CAT scan. When my diagnosis was confirmed, they prescribed me antibiotics and filled the prescription for $ 15. Exactly what I needed them to be — there, professional, and affordable.
My second experience was when I went with a friend so she could get some meds to help with her anxiety, which she didn’t want in her health history (insurance companies use that shit against you, seriously). So we went down on a day when we knew there would be a doctor on duty. We saw Dr. Osterer, who, within minutes of meeting me, had already offended me to the point that I wanted to challenge him to a good old-​fashioned duel. He did this by a) pushing his republican anti-​Obamacare agenda in his second sentence to us, b) asking my friend if she was currently working with a therapist, and when she said no, telling her that he thinks therapy is a «crock of shit» (his words) and doesn’t work (despite the ample research literature that disputes his position), and c) upon being informed that *I* am a therapist, not even bothering to apologize. If I hadn’t been there supporting my friend, we would have had some words, but I bit my tongue for her sake. On top of that, he didn’t do any actual assessment of her symptoms, so he basically let her tell him her diagnosis (would probably be a good doctor to work with if you were trying to get a prescription for Dilaudid or something…) But, again, the desired objective was achieved with minimal hassle, so whatever.

I’ve been to many Access Health clinics over the years (SF, San Mateo, Oakland), going back to when they were called QuickCare. While it’s a decent & affordable option for when need to see someone off-​hours (evenings, weekends), it’s definitely gone downhill a lot over the years.
Seems they rarely have doctors anymore (last time I went, they said there wouldn’t be an MD in the office at all for 8 MORE DAYS). One time, I arrived for a 9:00 AM appointment only to have the nurse on duty (the only care provider) arrive to work at… 9:20 AM. The nurse didn’t know how to use a tongue depressor, she just kept making me gag & never got a good look at my throat. Another time, they were plain out of the antibiotic I needed for an infection.
The people at these clinics for the most part are caring, and I’m glad places like this exist to offer affordable basic healthcare to those without better options, but that’s the thing. If your condition & treatment are *basic* (meaning 100% straightforward), then you can go here and be taken care of. But if your symptoms aren’t typical or they need to be figured out from amongst a few possibilities, it’s a crapshoot whether you’ll get good care here.
If this is your only option, then go. But if you have other options… well, you probably wouldn’t be considering this then, and really you shouldn’t go here if you have other options based on my recent experiences in the past year.

Great option for those without insurance. Fast, competent, and inexpensive. I was in and out in less than an hour with a clear diagnosis, treatment plan, and the prescription I needed, all for less just over $ 100.

I called at 5:50, the latest appointment available was at 6:00, I said I could be there by 6:10 and they booked me! AMAZING!!!
The receptionist was very personable, the paperwork was very simple (Thank you!), the FNP (whose name I unfortunately do not recall) was professional, listened well and warmed up by the end of the visit. Most importantly, they helped me with my problem and said they would be happy to help me again until I got insurance. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because I already knew exactly what I needed so no medical acumen was required. Therefore I can’t speak to the degree of medical competence.
Overall, highly recommended!

Went in at 4:30pm on a Wednesday with an ear ache, in and out before 5pm. Saw the PA Laurie Strasnurger, she was so nice and interactive., she didn’t seem rushed like most doctors. For the price ($ 75 basic visit, other places in the area were charging $ 125) I highly recommend it if you don’t have insurance

The last 3 weeks have been rough. I had a cough that just wouldn’t go away. I knew it had to be something worse the the typical cold bug because it just kept getting worse. I’m glad found this place because I ended up having bronchitis and needed to be on antibiotics for a week.
This place is no nonsense.
Came in on a Sunday morning at 11:30AM, the lady at the front desk tells me straight up come back at 3:30PM, or sit here and wait for 2+ hours. I chose the latter, went somewhere for brunch, came right back, and they saw me right away as promised.
I met with Dr. Calvo. Nice guy. Quick, accurate assessment. Heck I’d even come here if I did have health insurance just so I don’t have to deal with your typical hospital drama.

I am a freelance copywriter, which means, I don’t have insurance (like many). I know I should, but get over it, I don’t. So this past week, when I came down with a bad cold that just wouldn’t go away, I decided to research cheap walk-​in clinics in the area. I came across Access Health and decided to drag my hacking cough in the car to this place. I read the reviews on here and knew what to expect. A small clinic located inside Farmacia Remedios. I was a little hesitant, but I must say it was the best decision I have made! Not only was it way cheaper than going to an urgent care or other clinic, it was the fastest appointment I never made.
For $ 75, I met with Dr. Fuentes (the nicest man ever). He quickly diagnosed my hacking cough as bronchitis and prescribed me antibiotics and some lovely codeine cough syrup. I can’t tell you how much I loved him. I had been miserable for 3 days, thinking it was just a cold and that I didn’t want to spend tons of money going in. What’s even better is that for antibiotics and cough medicine, it only cost me $ 55. I even had the prescription filled right in the pharmacy. Like seriously, if you don’t have insurance, GO HERE! The staff is very friendly and nice. It’s quick and cheap. I will definitely be going back. Let’s just hope it’s not for another case of bronchitis.
