Excellent service. Very trustworthy. Had the dreaded black screen. Replaced screen; back in business in about 4 hours. Great!

Daniel is a really, really nice guy, and he took me in around the holiday, called me back promptly the morning of his return from vacation, and made the data transfer for me same day. I had an issue with Outlook folder not transferring, and he fixed it no charge. Old school service.

Poor selection of product. Return product and charged 15% so they can put it back on the shelf for another sucker to buy it.

Probably the worst place ever, they could barely take the time to check out my desktop when I brought it in. The screen had showed the dreaded blue screen, the machine wouldn’t boot up correctly. I dragged it in, the guy hooks it up after ignoring me for awhile, says «no screen, no screen» I replied that I had just disconnected it from my monitor less that 15 minutes ago. He says sorry I can’t help, no screen… over and over.
So I bring it back up the street to my house, connect the monitor and get the same blue screen. …
SO I bring it back and show him a photo I took with my cell, with the error screen… he connects a monitor and SAME THING HAPPENS… WTF is this a scam?
He disconnects his monitor, says no screen, no, he can’t help. EXCEPT IF I WANT TO PAY 90 dollars to have him access it, BUT he thinks it’s a waste of time.
SO I bring it back to the house, connect the monitor, call another service, guy come out that afternoon and fixes my computer. Cost, 100 dollars, 2 year old desktop is working again, no thanks to these jerks!

This is the only place we go for my entire computers, network and tech problems! They are reliable, straight forward, and reasonably priced. Over the last 30+ years, we had crashes, data loss, virus attacks, security issues, HW/​SW compatibility issues, and countless upgrades. They have supported each and everyone with complete satisfaction. When problems were not within their expertise, recommendations were made immediately. We appreciate that. If there were 9 stars, we would have checked all!!!

A catastrophic computer failure is no fun. My MacBook Pro suddenly froze and when I restarted it I was faced with a screen with some unfamiliar choices to get it working again. None of them worked. So I contacted an Internet repair service I used recently, thinking it was another virus or something similar. That had the same results as what I had already tried, so they connected me to Apple support. I spent about an hour on the phone with a nice technician, who had me do the same things as I tried along with some new variations, but nothing worked. Fortunately, there was no charge. So she made an appointment for me at a local Apple Store, but the earliest appointment was six days away. Since it was only a paperweight at that point, the next day I tried taking it in to leave it until I could pick it up. They would not take it. Not helpful.
So I looked up someplace that would take my computer and East Bay Computer was close and had good reviews. I called and was told I could bring it right in. I took it down, parked right in front of their door, and took in the computer. The place is reminiscent of independent auto mechanics; there were computer parts all over the place. If you go in, don’t let that deter you. I was promptly greeted by a friendly worker who immediately turned me over to a technician.
As soon as I started to explain the screen that came up he indicated he knew what happened. Then he started the computer and immediately diagnosed the problem as a bad hard drive. Less than two minutes after I walked in. We talked about which hard drive to replace it with (multiple choices were in stock at very reasonable prices), I gave them my contact information, and was out the door. The was a little before 4 pm on Monday. About 10:30 am the next day I got a call and it was ready, and I went down and picked it up. When I got the appointment with the Apple Store I figured I’d be happy enough if I got out for less than $ 300 and this was $ 6 under that, so I’m satisfied with the cost. Both times I went there it took me longer to get there than it did conduct my business.
It’s been a pain to get everything back to where it was before, in spite of Time Machine, but this place made it a lot quicker and easier than it could have been. I’m really satisfied with their service and would recommend it to anyone who needs some computer work done. The only downside is that now I think I’ve been spoiled and will expect actual good service from others. These guys could teach workshops on how to do this right.

The LCD on my screen cracked and I had to get it fixed. I checked with Apple and other places, and this place has the best price!!! Apple was going to charge me $ 400+ and the other places were going to charge me $ 350+. This place only costed me around $ 225~
The staff is super friendly and service is quick.

I can’t recommend for work on MacBooks. They diagnosed my problem, but didn’t seem interested in wanting fix my laptop. They put it back together, I paid the balance of their service fee and was out the door.

These guys are great. They are reasonably priced and quick to finish the job. First they replaced my dying hard drive and saved all my data (not all of which was backed up, my bad) Second, after I got the computer back, my printer wouldn’t work. They figured out the problem and fixed it at no extra charge. Last but not least, as a woman, I especially appreciate it when technicians don’t talk down to me – they were matter of fact and patient with no attitude.
In summary, These guys are highly competent professionals who know how to treat their customers right. I will not hesitate to use them again if needed. Also, I will back up my files more regularly. This was a close call.

had 2 computers that didn’t boot up. (to windows) lite button wasn’t lit either. figure something’s wrong. usual computer outfit i relied on wasn’t open till 11 on saturday.
at ten, i was at East bay’s front door. the elderly guy tested my computers and a subsequent monitor and found nothing wrong. i asked why. he said «magic».
no hocus pocus here. other places may just take the computer and charge a minimum. not so here. they diagnose the problem right away, tell u what’s wrong,. what needs to be done and the cost. (overheard another conversation.)
East Bay isn’t fancy but it will get all my future computer needs and mends.

I was surprised to see how few reviews have been posted for this provider. I have used them for years to fix problems, install new hard drives, and even to convert a computer running a newer version of Windows back to an earlier version so my pile of specialized software would run properly on it. In total they have worked on 5 machines for me, and every time the work was fast, reasonably priced and a complete solution to my problems. When parts or things like a video card are needed they have them on hand and their price is very reasonable. They are open about what they see as a problem and base estimates on that. Be aware that if the problem turns out to be different the price will be different. On two occassions when they fixed my machine, the problem was quite different from what it appeared to be, and the price was substantially LESS than estimated. If they expect a major deviation upward from the estimate, they call you. Give this business a try if you need computer service.

East Bay Computer has been helping me out for years and is the first place I would go when my computer-​my lifeline-​has a problem. Those guys are «magic». I had a small glitch with my computer today and they helped me out. They are honest, reliable and helpful as well as good at what they do. Thank you East Bay Computer Center!

I had a Mac that’s hard drive went on the blink. East Bay computer not only replaced it with a more reliable hard drive they also went way over the extra mile to help me figure out why my computer wouldn’t connect with my Comcast Modem after the new hard drive and new OS was installed (a problem that was not their fault but the fault of my Comcast modem.) They took care of me and were fun to work with too. I recommend their services highly and will use them again.

I am an independent local computer consultant. For well over a decade I have had East Bay Computer Center build PCs for my business clients. They understand the need to build for reliability first and foremost. If you want to «shop local», I very highly recommend having them put together a machine for you.

Thank you fellow Unilocalers! I killed my hard drive (no malice or premeditation). Received a replacement from Dell and decided to give it a go replacing the unit myself. Quickly reminded that a Swiss Army Knife is not a good substitute for a tiny screwdriver — tends to collapse on your finger at the least opportune time. Like right after your hard drive has crashed, you’ve already lost 3 days of work, and really could use that index finger.
Went immediately to Unilocal.Daniel looked like the man. A 20% discount on services to new customers sweetened the pot. Decided to compare with Computerland in Berkeley and was quoted $ 85+ to unscrew the old unit and screw the new unit back in. For that sum, I could buy the appropriate tool and dinner out. Daniel then quoted me $ 35 to $ 100+, saying «it depends.» Foo! Does it ever end up on the low end of the quote? With Daniel, the answer is yes. Did the work while I waited and charged me $ 10. It doesn’t get better!

I have been bringing my computers and laptops to these two guys for 8 years. I feel they are trustworthy, honest and fair. They can tackle any virus and data recovery. They are straightforward, tell you what you need, how long it will take and then they just do the work. I send my friends here. Prices are fair and clear.

After trying various local (to Berkeley) providers, I went to Mr. Wu’s and was floored by the service. He was knowledgeable about my issue, had the part in stock, and offered the solution at a very reasonable price. I would highly recommend East Bay Computer Center as you first stop.

These folks were able to make my system work within a day when i couldn’t get it to boot after 3 days of fiddling with it.
The repairs cost me under their estimate, fixed the next day, and worked flawlessly. Don’t be fooled by the exterior of the shop. These guys are great.

I brought in a laptop that had crashed hard. I can usually recover a computer, but this one I thought was a goner.
Daniel was able to get it up and running and saved most of my personal files as well.
He is reliable and got the computer back to me within 3 days, as he said he would.
His prices are great. ($ 75/​hour) and he generally under counts his time.
It’s refreshing to find a reliable, honest small business person in the computer repair business!

I’m so glad I found a local computer establishment where I can buy random computer parts without enriching Worst Buy or Compusuck. It’s not a megawarehouse so call ahead if you know specifically what you want. Not for noobs.
