East Bay SPCA

We took two 4-​month old female kittens to be spayed here last week and were really pleased with the experience. Six days later, they are feeling good and healing up very well!
At $ 85 per operation (+$ 15 for an e-​collar), it is about ¹⁄₃ the price of our normal vet for spaying. We also had micro-​chips implanted ($ 30) and their claws trimmed (free).
Aside from the price, we decided to go with the East Bay SPCA for spay surgery because they (like the SF SPCA) use a really small incision (less that ½ inch), while our regular vet (like most vets) uses a traditional incision of at least 2 inches. Our kittens are so active that we thought a smaller incision with faster healing time and less risk of tearing was important — by the next day, they seemed to be back to their energetic selves.
A few other details:
— We registered online, and the very-​friendly staff called the next day to schedule an appointment for the following week and to answer my questions. We had to pay a $ 42.50 deposit (50%) for each kitten when we booked the appointment.
— The kittens were given an injection of buprenorphine (pain-​killer they said would cover them for three days) during the procedure. This was included in the $ 85, and there were no other meds for us to buy.
— I’ve heard a range of times, but in our case we were at the facility about 20 minutes each for drop-​off and pickup.

It’s a local center which is amazing but I’ve tried calling and also sending e-​mail correspondence to try to set up an appointment to have my newly adopted dog and have waited for several weeks now and haven’t even received any response back to set up any kind of appointment. Hopefully I can update my review at a later date but it’s disappointing that a place that I’ve heard great things about can’t at least respond to an e-​mail or an inquiry made on their website.

Having 3 dogs is a blessing & a joy but it comes with some challenges too. The expenses could be a bit much especially times like this. So, I searched for a place where my dogs can get affordable vaccinations.
I was truly impressed with East Bay SPCA!
The staff were very nice, they were so accommodating. The place was very neat, cleaner than my vet’s office, and most of all– the prices of their vaccines were unbeatable!
We paid a third of what our vet charges us!!!
This place is truly a gem! We are even thinking of switching vets now. I’d rather support agencies like this…

This has been bothering me all day so I had to Unilocal it. I have gone to this SPCA twice to get my puppy neutered the first time we were sent home because he has diarrhea, BUT the male vet assistant was nice and the Vet that day was sweet and explained why they could not do the procedure. Wish I remembered her name but she was slim and tall with short hair.
Today we took took in our Siberian Husky Puppy to be neutered. We had to be there at 7:30AM we were told there is a 30 – 45 minute wait, but we only waited about 15 minutes. The receptionists are friendly, there
is some spray clean up section if your pet has an accident. Also hooks to place your pup’s leash and lots of sitting space and counter space to fill out forms. When we were called in my puppy immediately did not appreciate the female vet assistant touching him, he is super friendly expect when he gets a bad vibe from people. My puppy pied on the floor and I was about to clean it when my mother in law called asking about my son’s medications. Then Dr. Gwen Gadd came she immediately seemed annoyed and put paper down where he had peed. I told her I was going to clean it and she told me to step out if I was going to be on the phone. OK. So I walk out quickly come back in, in a matter of seconds and she is standing behind the door. Which made no sense considering I was coming back in. She went on trying to touch my puppy to examine him and he did not want her touching him at all. As I said before he is super friendly except when he feels bad vibes from people. So she put a muzzle on him… Wow… It says a lot when a dog/​puppy does not like a person. He is also very well socialized and does great at the Vet & even with the Dr when we came weeks before he did not mind her at all. The vibe I got from Dr. Gadd was awful. She has no bedside manners, no people skills, let alone good with dogs. I felt horrible leaving my pup with her and the assistant just put the horrible rope slip leash on my puppy and dragged him away. Not giving us a second to say good bye. The only thing I appreciate from this location are the prices and discounts when applicable. If we would ever need to come again I will insure to call and make sure Dr. Gadd is not in nor working that day.
Pick up was quick dogs are to be picked up between 3−4PM to avoid fee, I was given an invoice, pain meds, and after care instructions and my puppy was given to me. I also purchased the $ 15 e-​collar. So far he seems fine, incision looks clean and neat.
Would I recommend this location, possibly, but highly encourage to call ahead and insure you see another Vet.

If you’re looking for a spot to get Fido vaccinated and not willing to throw over an arm and a leg to get it done; head over here.
Their prices are super reasonable, and you’ll feel much more safer than throwing your pooch over to a «pop up clinic» they occasionally have at Petco or on the street.
They only do walk in appts Tues and Sat from 10−2ish, so make sure to plan ahead because it sure is a «zoo», if you know what I mean. I couldn’t believe the amount of people who popped on in for the open clinic day. I thought I was ahead of the game but apparently so did the full parking lot full of barking and yapping dogs being dragged in through those doors.
Knocked a star down because of the cleanliness of the facility. It is an older SPCA, so it’s given it’s gonna be run down and not as fancy as the newer building down the street. There’s a little poop section outside the entrance and I can’t tell you how many dogs stopped by to do their dirty biz (aka every dog). Most dogs did their little kicking of their hind feet afterwards which created a huuuuuge dirt storm afterwards. Oh I can imagine the amount of bacteria flowing through the air each time that happens. There are poop bags but I can tell ya I didn’t see everyone using it (ahem, pick up after your dogs people!).
All in all, if you’re one who needs to get your pup vaccinated and you want it done without an appt head on over. You won’t be disappointed.

I recently was fostering a dog that became a foster fail anyway SPCA offered me the best deal and I figured they do many spay and Neuter surgeries so would be very experienced but still a little apprehensive because I have always taken my dogs to the vet. But the veterinarian was very sweet and obvious she cares about animals the surgery went well and her incision was very small and neatly done. I def recommend this place the only downside is that since they do a lot you all have the same drop off and pick up so it is a few hours before you get to pick up your animal.

After I had paid an arm and a leg to get my two little furry babies vaccinated at a fancy clinic, I looked online to find a place that suited my budget better.
The East Bay SPCA was highly rated on all sites I consulted and so I jumped right in and brought my sweethearts here for spaying/​neutering. I filled out their online questionnaire beforehand and was called back within a day to set up an appointment for two days later. They ask for half the amount for the surgery in advance via credit card, which I think is totally fine. I must say, they are very well organized and friendly. The prices are super fair and I felt, my kittens were in very good hands!
On the day of the surgery, I brought them in at 8am, they got examined shortly, I filled out some paperwork and paid the bill. Then I left and returned at 4pm to pick them up. By the time I got them back, they were awake and alert and fit as little fiddles.
The babies got fixed, microchipped and received their last round of shots. They’re recovering nicely so far and don’t seem to have suffered any major trauma ;-)

I took my cat here to get spayed. I had to be there at 8 am on a Saturday to drop her off. Apparently they tell everyone (20 people) to all come in at 8 and then they check in the animals one at a time. It took forever and I waited at least 50 minutes. It would be a lot smarter to have some people come at 8:30 or 9 instead of 8. I was also disappointed because her cone collar (which i paid an extra $ 15 for) fell off within minutes of picking her up. Maybe they need to get smaller sizes for cats because the cone collar i have is nowhere near her size. Overall, this was was a disappointing experience.

When I lived in San Francisco, the SF SPCA was a weekly pitstop for us because looking at the adorable cats and dogs would always act as an instant pick-​me-​up.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from the East Bay SPCA but was pleasantly surprised to discover that it was equally spacious, clean, and bright. There were also a large amount of both cats and dogs to take home with you or warm your heart as you look around.
Everyone we’ve encountered there has been warm and friendly.
Parking is free in an outdoor parking lot. Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

What can I say about the place where I found my fur baby? :D I will be forever grateful to SPCA for bringing my little guy into my life. A happy ending for all!
This place seemed clean, bright, and open. There aren’t the sad bars like some shelters. The staff and volunteers were sweet and knowledgeable. They really seemed to know the dogs and their temperaments and whether they will be a good fit.
The adoption process was painless and easy. No angry cross-​examination like from some of the rescue organizations. SPCA does a great job and they deserve lots of credit and support for what they do

This review is for the drop in vaccinations.
Came here for a vaccine for my dog, only had to wait a few minutes and it was super easy to get her registered. This place beats going to the vet for vaccines because you don’t have to pay for the office visit charge, just the vaccine.
FYI, their drop in vaccine hours are Tuesday (?) and Saturday 10 – 2. Literally drop in.
About spay/​neutering services, you have to pay 50% for the deposit to reserve an appointment. It’s about 45 day wait to get an appointment, so plan ahead!

Brought my dog here to get neutered. Prices are reasonable and customer service is good.
There were tons of people, but that was to be expected.

I was there today and it is a very clean environment. Nice & friendly staff!

Disclaimer: It really takes a lot for me to rate anything 5 stars simply because there’s always something to improve.
I came here for the drop in vaccination clinic. There was a line (as expected) because the prices here are just THAT cheap. (They’re cheap enough that every pet owner now has no excuse to get their 4 legged friend vaccinated) Not to mention the line was quick and the staff was friendly despite being overwhelmed.

I really can’t be angry at the East Bay SPCA.
They work so many hours with such low funding but still make sure that you can afford to keep your pet.
The staff isn’t always on point but I can understand that they’re all underpaid and still around because of how much they love animals. There’s just a lot of animals. Waits are a little long and getting an appointment is pretty crazy.
Unfortunately, I’ve spent unneeded money, multiple times, for them to tell me that my cat basically just has high anxiety and no real medical issues, which is quite reassuring for me since he was a stray.
They trimmed/​filed down his claws every time he was there, it always makes me a little happier to pay the fee to see them when nothing is wrong with him.

My poor Baxter went in at 7am to get his balls removed. He was out by 4pm with a cone just in time for Halloween (he was a cone head– LOL). The staff was wonderful and the price was only $ 115 which included his nails trimmed and antibiotics. They did great with him and he is now cone and ball free. THANK YOU East Bay SPCA for a great job.

I found East Bay SPCA through Unilocal and heard about it the same day through a family friend. After I submitted the appointment application online, it took them two and a half day to call me back. And whenever I tried to call, the calls never get through or no one ever pick up.
As for the price, it was reasonable to me. They took $ 50 deposited when making the appointment. Originally I needed to pay $ 125 for my dog’s neutering but because there was a grant available due to my residential area, all I had to pay was $ 15 for the E-​collar and got free microchip for my dog, which was awesome!
Anyways regardless of them taking a long time to call me back for an appointment, their service was awesome. The staffs are very friendly and helpful. They explained what cautions I needed to take after the surgery and even called the day after the surgery to check to see how my dog was doing.
Overall, I really recommend this place if you need to take your dog or cat for spray/​neuter.

Low cost, great service, great communication, cannot ask for a better place.
The cost comes with 3 days pain meds, you can have a surgery related free visit and from the time i made an appointment and the actual date of surgery was a week.
The staff are great. Drop off at 7am and I left in an hour because of the crowd. Like I said, it is expected because of the low cost factor hence the crowd but surgery was great. The. Pet came back clean and the stitches dissolved. The incision is small and the dog looks great. Great place.

I decided to take my Chihuahua for their Chihuahua event to get spayed /​neutered for free + free rabies shots and distemper.
The line was very long. I was there about 7:15am and was done around 8:30am but it was a free day for Chihuahuas so of course there would be a lot of people. However, I didn’t mind.
When I came to pick up my Chihuahua at 3pm. First thing is first, I immediately checked her incision. Needless to say, they have done a great job this time. It was so neat, clean and nicely glued together.
I think it depends on what Vet you get. The first time I took my other dog, you can see my rant from my previous post. It was horrible. I forgot who her doctor was.
I just want to say thank you to the vet that operated on my chihuahua.
