Before Elizabeth had her own salon, I followed her wherever she went. I’ve always been able to tell her what I want, or tell her when I’m stumped about a hair issue. Now we design together the cut and color of my hair. So many people have complimented me that I keep a few of her cards in my purse. The salon is always clean and there is a variety of music playing. So if there’s something I don’t like, I know it won’t last long, and besides that it is so low that it does fade into the background. Hawaiian is a fabulous manicurist, Carol the receptionist is always nice and professional. If I have to change an appointment, she is always very helpful and as accommodating as possible. They also have a nice inventory of high end products available. I recommend elizabeth H to everyone.

Enjoying yet another expert cut and color by Elizabeth! Love my hair and have received complements from friends, neighbors, shoppers, strangers waiting in line for a movie, etc. Appreciate Elizabeth’s coaching on how to manage hair between cuts, which products are best for my hair type and how to use them. Elizabeth is always in the lead with hair styling trends, has an artistic eye, and in depth understanding of how hair behaves.

This place is really mismanaged, the salon while
clean looks like pottery barn circa 2000. The owner clearly doesn’t care about investing in the business or bringing in clientele and it’s really obvious by the way she treats her stylists. I love my stylist (Kim Fecteau– cannot recommend her enough) but if I was walking by Id never just come in for a walk in. Elizabeth always seems like she can’t be bothered to talk to me because she’s not my stylist. Whatever happened to customer service? Also, how about some ambiance? Don’t you want new business? Don’t you want a younger crowd? Not just people in their 40s-​60s? How about playing something other than folk music. I’ve heard the stylists talk about the improvements they would want to make and they all sound like good ideas. Elizabeth– listen to your people. Quite frankly, they are the only asset going for your salon since you don’t seem to do much of anything but sit back and capitalize off their hard work.

Would have given this hair dresser a 5 star 15 years ago when I began receiving hair care. However, after years I did not feel special and my hair made me look older than I felt. I changed hair dressers to L’mor in Oakland and after just one hair cut and color (no perm), I received more compliments in the following weeks than I ever did when getting a hair cut, color or perm from Elizabeth. I am so glad I got out of my rut. I look so much younger and feel so great about myself. I really don’t like being taken for granted and this is how I felt.

Here is the problem with Elizabeth H.
All the stylists rent a chair by the day. So my stylist could live right next door but she isn’t coming in just to cut my hair, because she has to rent the chair for the whole day.
The stylists are all excellent but the good ones book early and work part time. I work nights and weekends so it is next to impossible to get an appointment with my stylist that fits my schedule. Because they choose to work weekends since those are the days most people have off. But not me.
Here is my reason for only one star. I called to make an appointment that would fit my schedule. I was taking a chance on a new stylist, since, as I said, it was impossible to book the one I know and like.
I was given an appointment of Monday Morning, 10:45 am. II spoke directly with the owner. I had traffic court at 9:00 am in SF, so 10:45 was perfect and allowed me to get back in the city for work by noon.
Elizabeth obviously must have a drinking problem or parties too much. Maybe she is suffering from early Alzheimer’s disease? But she certainly had her head up her you know what on the day they she made my appointment.
Because I got there at 10:30 and the shop is dark and closed. They do not open on Monday’s until noon. I need to be at work by that time.
So a wasted trip from SF to Oakland plus the gas and bridge toll and I still have no haircut, which I needed two weeks ago.
So, if you don’t work or have flexible hours, maybe this place will work for you. The haircuts are really good. Five stars for the product.
But this is the second time they have screamed up my appointment and I do not intend to give them yet a third opportunity.
Elizabeth called me in an hour and apologized. Apparently she forgot to call the stylist to tell him she had booked him for a morning appointment. The stylist has a key to the place.
She offered me a free haircut but I declined. I will find a new salon, close to where I live, that will actually value my patronage and my time.

This review is based on my experience with Eva. I’ve been seeing her for awhile, and now that she’s moved here it is so convenient. Right down the street from my apartment!
About a month ago I had a horrendous rash on my face that I had no idea where it came from. I went to go have a consultation with Eva and she knew exactly what it was and gave me some products to help alleviate it.
But my most recent service that i had with her was a Brazilian. She is my favorite for this. She makes it much less painful, if any pain at all. And she is so friendly, that the service goes by so quickly.
I thoroughly enjoy going to see her for services. And I recommend anyone in search of a great esthetician to go see her!

I got a great haircut and some color from Elizabeth. The color didn’t work; I couldn’t tell the difference compared to before. That’s as much my responsibility as hers. I’m not giving her 5 starts though because it wasn’t a very relaxing experience. I think it’s important for the stylist to «read» clients accurately before they start chatting. I prefer to relax and be quiet when I’m at a salon; Elizabeth kept up a continual conversation, telling me about herself and asking me many questions. I could have said I preferred not talking but that seems rude. Another thing, I have been to salons where a head massage is part of the shampoo; instead she worked fast so that wasn’t relaxing either.

Elizabeth H is the place to go, if you want a top notch haircut.
The space and ambiance is very warm and upbeat. Elizabeth happens to be one of the kindest, most generous, interesting people I know. I feel like she really knows me, and cares about my experience.
She has 30+ years of salon experience. She really knows what shes doing. She also is current with the latest styles.
Whenever I get a haircut from her, people are always giving me complements.
I love the way my hair looks, and Elizabeth’s artistry is a main reason for this.

This review is for Evie, the esthetician. I scheduled a deluxe custom facial after feeling my skin was dull and tired-​looking due to stress and aging. Evie was personable, but she only spoke personally if I initiated talking– which is relaxing and calming to not have someone talking your ear off when you just want to relax. She selected just the right products for my skin, and explained what she was doing, so I was never surprised.
The product lines carried are varied and she used a variety of lines for my facial. She only helped me purchase a product after I asked, and she was helpful, and didn’t try to up sell.
The room, although small, is cozy and comfortable– the décor reminds me of Sweden or Norway style, and was calming. She played soothing music, and the vibe was great.
She gave me an excellent massage too!
My face looks amazing and the facial took 5 years off my face!
I’m looking forward to scheduling regular facials with her.

I have been going to Elizabeth (the owner) for many, many years and my partner gets her hair cut with Tom. We love them both and are always satisfied with the results.
The place is ALWAYS clean, Carol the receptionist is friendly and professional and even though I have never had a pedicure, Halina seems to always have regular customers who come to her.
I can’t speak to the other stylists there, but if you want a great haircut, ask for Elizabeth and/​or Tom — you just cannot go wrong with them.

Jessica Lee! This review is for the best stylist around, as far as I am concerned. Jessica is eminently talented, and she is a lovely person. She can work with your own ideas and make them better than you imagined they could come out, or she can suggest a cut that will work with your features. You can be confident either way. I’ve tried both approaches, and in both cases I left feeling great about my visit. Prices are most reasonable considering her skill. I am very glad to have found her, and believe that if you are searching for a person who will offer you a relaxing experience in the salon and make you really happy about your haircut, she is the one to call.

I am very protective of my hair because I’ve had some not-​so-​great experiences in the past. My hair is straight and fine, so everything shows– there’s no hiding a bad cut. After reading the reviews here, I decided to try ElizabethH salon. I made a same-​day appointment with Paige, and it was an incredible experience! In addition to the fantastic cut, she also taught me a lot about maintaining my hair’s moisture level in a holistic way (the ends were pretty fried).
She had about a 5 – 7 minute consultation with me in the chair before doing anything– just to learn about my hair and what I wanted in the cut. She gave me insightful feedback based on her first «analysis» of my hair. I really appreciated how seriously she took my concerns/​hopes for my cut; she immediately instilled confidence in me that she was listening and making her plan based on what I wanted, which is so important when getting your hair cut! Then she washed and conditioned my hair while doing a really good scalp massage, and proceeded to apply her experience and talent precisely to what I had described to her in the consultation before the cut. It came out as an even better version of what I had imagined for my hair– a cut with long layers and side-​swept bangs, totally getting rid of the fried ends without cutting too much off.
I couldn’t be happier and I will definitely be returning to see Paige! I highly recommend her!

I had a «back facial». Quotations because that’s what my appointment was for and ended up being steamed for 10 minutes, then being talked into a $ ³⁵⁄₁₅ minute procedure called micro current (painful needle/​probe thing), then given another $ ³⁵⁄₁₅ minute upgrade… for free? $ 55 back facial turned into $ 90.
I came here because I was anxious and willing to try something new. However, when the esthetician sees my back for the first time and says «wow. You have a lot going on back here.» it’s not the most reassuring nor sensitive reaction. I have a few pimples not a solar system on my back. Then when doing an extraction she exclaimed «OH GOD!». Wow. Thank you.
She was however comforting while doing the micro current as it was a painful procedure also assuring that it would be worth it.
One my way out she mentioned my chest and face. Look. I’m aware of what’s going on with my skin. I went vegan three months ago and ever since my glowing, clear, amazing skin took a turn for the worst. It’s not necessary to point out what someone is most likely aware of. Not my first back facial. I probably will not be going back here.

I found this Salon when I moved to the Bay Area while walking on College Ave. I called and got an appointment the same day! I came in they offered me tea and she took my jacket and we got started. She asked the right questions and then executed the color! Jessica colored my hair to perfection! She was very professional and I am happy to have found her. I would recommend her for color. Thank you

This review is about Tom. He has been cutting my eldest son’s hair for a couple of years. He has always been satisfied with Tom’s work. My youngest son, who is 7, just had his very first haircut, ever, by Tom. Well, I think his Nana cut a curl off when he was a baby, but that’s it. He has worn his hair tied back in a braid daily for a couple of years. He had grown sick of getting his hair combed and being called a girl all the time. He was ready to chop it off and donate it to Locks of Love. He only wanted his hair cut by Tom because he knows he cuts his big brother’s hair.
Tom was great with Milo. He didn’t mind the audience that we brought either for this big event. Tom gave him a great cut. He was patient and asked Milo the questions about how he wanted his hair styled. Curly hair isn’t always easy to work with, but Tom gets it right with my boys’ hair.
I don’t think this salon sees a lot of 7 year-​old kids coming in for hair appointments, but Milo was treated like a little prince. The salon itself is big and clean. It’s location on College Ave puts it next to quite a few great places to eat. Another great thing about the salon is that it is dog friendly!

I’ve had the same sad straight long dark hair style for more than a decade. I had never really cared to change it because hair styles require styling, and I’m not interested in acquiring a new habit that requires tools and products. Not to mention time and know-​how.
However, when friends and relatives that have never met tell you in the same week that your hair went out of style in the 70’s — it’s time to take action.
Of all the salons in North Oakland, I chose Elizabeth H because it was in my neighborhood, and of the great reviews. I am very glad I did.
They were able to fit me into a busy schedule quite quickly, which I really appreciated. Naomi Mimms colored, cut and styled my long locks with me in mind the whole time. I brought in a picture of what direction I wanted my hair to go and she really did a nice interpretation of it for my length and shape.
There are several snapshot style oil paintings on the walls that make the place feel local and relaxed. As opposed to sleek and cold.
I am really happy with Naomi’s work, her amazing price!!, and the salon in general.
I also love that there is a salon dog.

I highly recommend Elizabeth H Salon on College Avenue. The atmosphere is sophicated and relaxed. I had my haircut and colored by Paige who is a bright stylist with creative ideas and expertise. I had a lot of anxiety because I was changing to a very short hair style. Paige was generous and spent a lot of time with me. «When I look at your hair I don’t see limitations only possibilities» That was exactly what I needed to hear. So… I admit it. I neglected my brows for a while and they rebelled in revolt. To exact revenge, they grew out long and they conquered new ground. I went from cute to caveman in less than a week. I took advantage of a long weekend and came here for waxing. As soon as I laid eyes on Saira, I knew she was the one. Sorry to stereotype but she’s of Indian descent and I swear my heart did a little leap because my brain was thinking «ohhhh she can probably do THREADING!!!» Threading is 100% better than waxing. It’s been a few weeks since my appointment and it lasts much longer!
Saira is pretty gentle, whipped my brows into shape and turned me back into a lady!

I come to Elizabeth H Salon for Tina W! I followed her here from another salon. Tina has been cutting my hair for about four years now. When Tina first cut my hair it was long and rather unshapely, looking a bit too much like soccer mom hair at the same time I was rather protective of it and not ready for big change having had a couple of bad experiences with shorter haircuts.
Tina listened to me and did a lovely job on that first hair cut, giving it shape and style while keeping most of the length. Over the next couple of years as my trust in Tina’s skills grew and my hair got shorter (every time I got my hair cut my friends and family loved it even more than the previous cut.) Now I have a short sassy bob and love it. I went short more than a year ago and Tina is so skillful and thorough in her cuts, it’s always a great finished product. Tina gets 5-​stars!
I’ve only been to Elizabeth H a couple of times and it’s always welcoming and professional. There is someone at the desk to greet you, the space is clear, open and contemporary without being pretentious.

It doesn’t say skin care, waxing etc on the business listing, but they have an esthetician here too! I had an organic facial with Diane and loooooved it.
I love this space. Modern feel without the cold edge. Diane is just awesome. She takes the time to discuss your skin goals and caters the facial to your specific needs. Book one!
I also love that they carry Davines hair care here. Hard to find.
