Yummy! Delicious Chinese food prepared with care. The flavor is right on. Try the sesame and sweet & sour chicken. I also had the sauteed squid with vegetables. Generous portions for the price. Fried rice is pretty good too. Never crowded when I go there with my bf. I like that, feels more intimate. Location is good too. You don’t have to venture into Chinatown for good Chinese food. This place is a hidden gem.

Support your local businesses! This place is a great find. I hope it stays a secret because they have great prices, good food, and there is always just one table left. I hate those places that have lines out the door and their rushed food. I am not going to name names, not here. But, I wanted to post this review because these guys deserve it and you East Bay-ers deserve some good Chinese food. This place is great for Dim Sum. Price is so cheap. Half the price of those place that charge a couple of dollars for tea. TEA? This place has free tea. Heck, all you can drink. hehe… Anyways… Everything on the menu is good. Shrimp dumplings are good, noodles are good, seafood is really good, and the duck is really good. I tried the whole menu. I probably will not recommend fried fish fillets. I do recommend the Dim Sum menu and seafood.

Simple and straightforward. Very friendly proprietor, open late, good prices, fresh veggies and better quality seafood than you would think from the storefront. Great pea shoots too.

I came here with my girlfriend and her roommate one evening for dinner. We ordered chicken wings, dumplings, and soy sauce duck, along with a crunchy rice soup(if I recall correctly for that last one). The soup was pleasant and filling; the chicken wings were about as expected for chinese restaurants. The dumplings were good. But the soy sauce duck was AMAZING. Some of the best duck I’ve had in the Berkeley and Oakland areas. Also, since it was served cold, it keeps well and tastes much the same after a day in the refrigerator. I’d definitely want to come back and try the dim sum, but it was a good experience all around.

I feel bad giving this place 3 stars, because honestly, I didn’t really have dishes that I can really judge this place by. I came with my roommate and her boyfriend, who is Chinese but doesn’t really eat typically authentic Chinese foods, so I couldn’t order any of the less common foods. We ended up ordering fried chicken wings, dumplings, and a soy sauce duck. I think I need to try the dim sum and seafood here to be fair. Service was GREAT though. The waitresses were very friendly and attentive.

Had dim sum this morning with them for Chinese New Year. Much like the last visit, the service was good and the food, for the most part, was pretty tasty… They didn’t have shrimp dumplings. Those are my minimum requirement to having a complete dim sum meal. Mad points off for not providing! Besides that, though, the rest of the meal wasn’t bad. It was definitely nice that it wasn’t very full there today… surprisingly enough. All in all, I enjoyed myself. 4 Stars, a +1 from my last experience there… EVENTHOUGH they didn’t have shrimp dumplings!

was thinking of trying the dim sum here but wasn’t surprised that it isn’t served here anymore.(did it move to L & L in el cerrito?) décor is green with one wall displacing menu entrees and one wall displaying sea shells flatscheen: soccer sampling;: –eggplant with rock cod fillets.(lunch special, 5.50) doubt this was rock cod, probably swai, basa, or that catfish from vietnam. *fish was battered and prefried waiting for the lunch rush. it had no taste, and not crispy. eggplant wasn’t that exciting either. *egg roll –very average *soup –just so so, *fortune cookie: just a pieco of paper inside, no fortune. leftovers: –food 2 stars. +1 for very friendly and gracious waiter.(«just take your time eating») –he must grateful to have a job. –restaurant not so busy since they don’t serve dim sum anymore. –would be cautious on fried items, probably premade. –decent lunch crowd, no doubt some gems exist on menu… –food bland, otherwise ok, big portions, mostly rice. chinese lessons(mandarin) days of the week sunday sing g tin monday sing g yi tuesday sing g er wednesday sing g san thursday sing g tse friday sing g wu saturday sing g liu

Sorry, been to a lot of Dim Sum/Lunch restaurants, but this has t o be one of the worst. Service was slow and they did not have a lot of variety of dim sum at all. We had to ask for shrimp rice roll 3 – 4 times and they still did not have it made. We finally canceled it. The only reason I gave it a 2 star is because we ordered some chow fun, pan fried noodles, and fried rice that was decent. So, please be warned about the dim sum and don’t say that I didn’t tell you so.

Probably should have done further research before going to this place for Friday lunch. We wanted dim sum — maybe its a weekend only offering here. Place was FREEZING cold– I don’t think they have heat. All patrons were in their coats. Food is extraordinarily cheap. Portions are generous. Everything we ordered was good. Nothing fantastic, but nothing bad. Service is just ok. They were accomodating. Served the mu shu pancakes on a plate — the pancakes were all stuck together and to the plate, which made some of them unusable. Not the cleanest place around. For example, the soup bowls had remnants of previous meals dried on. The condiments on the table were in sticky and groady containers. oh well… Made a specific trip to Chinatown for dim sum, and didn’t get that. Don’t think I’d return to Lucky & Lucky — but I’d recommend it for cheap eats, decent quality to others in the area.

My coworkers and I just went in there one day. I’ve never been here before but they have. It’s a standard cheap decent chinese restaurant like any standard place in Oakland Chinatown. It was surprising to me that they were incredibly welcoming and nice though not like your usually brute service from other places. Overall good experience for a quick cheap find

My parents use to come to this restaurant a lot because of their cheap prices. It’s also nice because you never have to wait for a table either(even on busy sunday afternoons). It’s on the edge of China town as well so finding street parking is a lot easier as well. Don’t let the cheap prices fool you tho, their dim sum is quality. However, you will usually have to order in advance because there isn’t a dim sum cart that goes around — which is actually what I like since it ensures that my dim sum comes hot and ready. they also have an HDTV there as well so you can watch the game while you chow down.

I’m not a big Chinese food fan to be honest, but without a doubt this place is good. I was initially the only white person in there — which made me feel like I had made a good choice. It always seems strange to me to go into an Asian restaurant and not see any Asians. Anyway, they have a nice selection of lunch options. I was torn between several choices, which is not that common for me. So I guess I’ll have to go back. I settled on Kung Pow Shrimp and it turned out to be very good. The included soup was also nice — seemed kind of boring at first but left a pleasant peppery glow in my mouth. The appetizer/spring roll was sub-par, Menu was good. Food was very good. Service was very good. Prices are good. What more can you ask for?

our second time for dinner at L@L, and it was great. the first time was a celebration dinner for retirement, and it was really elegant, great soup, duck, veggies, but especially the table decorations that the restaurant provided: veggies carved into phoenix, dragon, and other things I don’t remember. the second time, we had a smallish meal; three dishes and rice for 30 bucks. a fantastic and different half duck, very meating, more braised than roasted, and with a different, vinegary dipping sauce(its a specialty here). also the ong choy with garlic, and a chicken tofu salt fish dish on a burner… This was plenty for three of us, and tasty. Next time we’ll have the pigs feet(or hand), which one of the other tables had. at dinner time, it’s really a different style of chinese cooking, so it might not suit everyone. but we’re coming back

Came back last Friday with another group of friends. I thought Tao Yuen was good but this place is even better! And you can’t beat $ 2.08 per dim sum plate(any size) for a sit-down restaurant. My friends couldn’t believe the price because the food was just so good. We especially loved the chive dumplings and turnip cakes pan-fried to perfection. One of the dim sum newbies couldn’t believe what she’d been missing! We’ll definitely be back… we all took takeout menus and made sure to ask if we can order dim sum to go(the answer was yes).

Since we were in the area, K. knew the area and eaten here before. It’s Lucky & Lucky Seafood Restaurant said the sign outside, but they serve dim sum. It were many people eating here around 12:30pm, but they had many empty round tables for big groups. That was great. We ordered lots of dishes: 2 order chicken feet — good pan-fried shrimp/chive dumplings — only 3 per order. Good. spareribs — ok sticky rice in lotus leaves — didn’t try it, only 2 small ones per order shrimp dumplings — fine pork dumplings — ok shrimp rice rolls — fine onion rolls w/soy sauce — fine special order HK-style chow mien — ok, too oily Fukien fried rice — ok Ask for ice water if you want it soda — comes w/can of soda & cup of ice Our total was 55.60 + 7.40 tip = $ 63 even. That feed 9 adults &1 child &1 infant. Bathroom through the kitchen I heard — I didn’t use it. Open daily

If you’re looking for a lunch spot with good but cheap food, you’ve found it. If you’re looking for authentic Chinese food, venture deeper into Chinatown and find a place where you have to speak the language to order.

What can I say? For $ 5 you get quite a feast(on weekdays only, more below) and you walk out stuffed. Been here now 3 times and you get better-than-decent Chinese dishes with no goopy or sloppy sauces. I have had now the General Tso’s Chicken and the Salt-and-Pepper Chicken. Both were excellent and I am probably partial to the latter, with its bed of lettuce and sliced thai chili peppers. Comes with egg flower soup(or soup of the day), yummy egg roll, fried or steamed rice, veggies. All for this low price. The quality is probably better than most places here in Chinatown, but you won’t find this kind of special cheaper. There is Spices 3 around the corner, but frankly, I was a little scared walking into that place, with the very loud Chinese variety shows on the plasma, the fussy and nonchalant servers, and the whiffs of the stinky tofu. Nope, at Lucky&Lucky you get a spacious room, a faint décor, but lots of happy customers coming in for some grub on busy weekdays. Note: unlike Spices 3, this place does take plastic. However, do not expect the full platter of food on weekends. Today(Saturday) we still paid $ 5 but we got only the entrée and the rice. No soup or roll, fruit either. Quite disconcerting as the outside sandwich board promised all this, but that was probably a sign that wasn’t changed from yesterday. The server didn’t seem to be too apologetic, and, so what do you do? Still, a steal and worth a try if you’re in the area or have some business to take care of downtown.

My friend and I went to this restaurant to have lunch. We ordered seafood fried rice, chicken porridge, fried won ton, and shrimp dumpling. The seafood fried rice was so tasteless and had no color as if it were just a regular old steamed rice. The fried won ton had almost no meat inside. The shrimp dumpling’s skin was too thick. The chicken porridge was the only one that we thought was decent. The price was, of course, not bad. But then again, that’s exactly what you get for that price. Cheap food does not necessarily taste bad, but this one is. I would not recommend anyone to come here unless they happen to be in the area and any other restaurants are closed.

Went there for a dim sum lunch on a Sunday and was quite impressed with some of their dim sum and was quite unimpressed with a couple of their items. I don’t know all the Chinese names but their wide semi thick white noodles with a piece of shrimp in the middle was definitely a no go. Otherwise, it was a pretty good experience and was quite filled. On a final note, we didn’t get any kind of menu for lunch so either they assumed we were getting the dim sum or they don’t have any other options during lunch. From what I read, they are supposed to have some kind of lunch specials.

Great Value for lunch. Even better before they changed the name from L & L to Lucky & Lucky but still good nonetheless. Food is good and they give a FREE Bowl of Soup and a FREE Appetizer with your lunch special. What’s not to like? Always a bonus when the soup is Hot & Sour soup cause that’s one of my favs!!!
