Piedmont Fabric

Beautiful, fun fabrics, very approachable and helpful owner and staff. Thank you for helping me find just the right background fabrics and choose the right silky binding tape for appliquéd down comforter for my toddler. The gorgeous imported Japanese fabric is such a find. Fun for Momma, fun for baby! I really appreciated your practical sewing tips to help me go in the right direction with fabric weight, etc. Will definitely be back!

Wonderful local business with a beautifully curated offering of buttons. I took two sweaters in for new buttons and Lan has a great eye. She immediately picked one button, which I picked after considering a number of others. I replaced 4 buttons on a sweater and it is like having a brand new stylish sweater! I will definitely be back.

Limited fabric selection and customer service

I am kicking myself for not coming here earlier in my life! Stonemountain is normally my go-​to fabric store in the area, so I guess I was afraid to try something new. I am SO glad I did though! Lan could really give Suzanne (Stonemountain) a lesson in buying chic contemporary fabric.
I also love Lan’s system of having a section of fabric swatches for bolts she can’t fit in the main part of her store. It means that she can have way more in stock than can fit in her small store– really very smart.
I won’t get pedantic here since it seems from other reviews that I’m not the only one who loves this place. I will, however, say that I am simply in love.

Fantastic shop with diverse selection and great service. I went looking for elastic ribbon and ended up spending an hour browsing around. I left feeling creatively inspired. Will definitely be back!

I am so pleased for Piedmont Fabric to be here in Oakland. The selection of fabric is wonderful, as are buttons and notions. The owner is knowledgeable. Oh, and the patterns are great. I have dealt with this company over the phone for a mailing as well as going to the store. Perfect results each time. The quality of the fabric is worth every penny. When we lost Poppy it was a bit of time before Piedmont Fabrics came into being. So glad you are here

For a small store this has to be one of the best fabric store I’ve visited. Well curated, very competitive prices and friendly knowledgeable staff. I can spend hours upon hours browsing here. They carry one of my favorite pattern company (Decades of Style) which can be dangerous … Visit and whip up something pretty …

They have a very good selection but definitely over priced. But there are a tooooon of patterns. I just wish it wasn’t so expensive. I work with a lot of fabric and when it’s add up, it’s just not affordable for me and I am forced to buy online or at Beverley’s. I would much rather buy local and there is just something about feeling the fabric that you don’t get when buying online. But when it breaks the bank, I have to find another way

Very happy to have such a wonderful store that has quality fabric (imported and domestic) with an owner who sews and knows her stuff. This in turn helps her customers when stumped with a challenge or in need of ideas, and, at times, a reality check. As a bonus, she also manages to find dedicated and experienced staff. I didn’t know what I’d do without Poppy Fabrics and our prayers were answered.

I dont sew, but I’m always looking to change or replace buttons. They have a great selection of buttons: colors, types and sizes. The staff is always very helpful.

Faux fur, felt and plenty of other fibers and fabrics that don’t start with the letter F. They’ve got buttons, zippers, and forms as well.

Wow! I love this store. They have the most wonderful bolts of fabric rolled up, standing in bins. I can’t think of another fabric store that is as inviting and has such a fresh, colorful, light feeling array of fabrics.

I love, love, love this store. The prices of the fabric are mid range. You aren’t going to find crazy cheap fabric here… you will find expensive fabric here. HOWEVER, the prints here are to die for and the quality is amazing. You will find prints here that would sell for $ 15 to $ 20 a yard online (or in other fabric stores in the bay) for $ 10 to $ 15 a yard. It’s like going to a fabric store where they have already pulled all the best out for you to browse through. I fell in love and I want to go back every month! The button selection is amazing as well. I found some Marc Jacobs bow print fabric here for only $ 13 a yard!
Also, if you are tired of dealing with sometimes cranky employees at stone mountain and you deal with apparel sewing mainly, you NEED to check this place out! The employees were helpful, but not overbearing (like some fabric stores). The owner was super sweet! Also, as an aside, the prices are comparable to stone mountain, but you don’t have to dig through a bunch cheap fabric to get to the good stuff.
Oh yeah, and the store is not closed. They moved and are located on the 3800 block.

A gem! I recently took a «fabric shopping day,» which involved visiting no less than 4 fabric stores (and a 5^th the day before). This was the only place I found the combination of selection and service I was looking for. If you’re looking for a huge range of quilting cottons, this isn’t your place, but they do have a great selection of apparel fabrics despite the relatively small size. Most stores in the Bay aside from Britex seem to be lacking in apparel choices. If you know better, please fill me in!
The fabrics can be a little hard to wade through due to how they are stored (on long rolls, vertically in bins), but just let the nice woman working there know what you’re looking for and she will help you out with expertise and a smile!
Prices are middle of the road, which I’m totally down with.
There are other great fabric shops around, so I don’t mean to slight them, but make sure you give this place a shot. Even if they don’t have what you’re looking for, you’ll leave feeling like you were taken care of.

Fabulous Fabric Fabulous Service.
I stopped in to pick up some linen to build my tufted wing-​back headboard. The store is relatively small, clean and organized but the customer service is big. They helped me select a beautiful linen fabric in navy which will add beautiful contrast to the wall color in my master. They have many fabric selections from silk to linen to cotton at mid to high price points in a variety of patterns and colors.
Because the store is located on Piedmont Ave, parking can be hard to find so prepare to walk a few blocks and pay the meter.

Ugh. Ugh. UGH.
This place upsets me.
Why does all the fabric they carry have to be so goddamn pretty that every time I step in here I struggle with the urge to empty my bank account on the spot? Why is everyone who works here so goddamn nice? Why is it that by looking at all the utterly fabulous prints in stock, I never fail to get a fully rejuvenated enthusiasm for sewing every time I stop by?
It’s upsetting, I tell you. Makes me sick, in a wonderful, wonderful way.
In all honesty, if you’re looking for fashion fabric, go here. It fills a valuable niche by being: a) not as crafty/​quilt-​y as Stonemountain (I loved your classes, but I could not, in all good conscience, call your store hip); b) not as pricey and snooty as Britex; c) not as disorganized and hit-​or-​miss as Discount Fabrics; and d) not as utterly crappy for fashion fabric as Joann’s.

They have only been in business for 2 ½ months but they have already won me over! I haven’t sewn for awhile… okay, okay since I was in my 20’s. I’m not sure I even know how to sew anymore but I am TOTALLY INSPIRED to try again after going to this store.
As soon as I walked in the store I was giving the warmest welcome from the staff. I was totally in 7^th heaven taking in all the rainbows of color from the fabrics, ribbons, buttons and trims.
Although the store seems small it has EVERYTHING for the newbie to expert seamstress/​seamster (er, is there such a word?) Needles, sewing boxes, bobbins, facing material, dozens and dozens of trim from strings of coins to those colored balls, fancy gold stuff, fuzzy stuff, feathery stuff, sparkly stuff. Everything for a cave person to a soccer mom to royalty to the Pope… I’m not kidding, I swear (uh, I guess I shouldn’t use the word, «Pope,» in the same sentence as «swear.»)
They have notions like iron– on patches, iron– on pocket replacements
(our household needs a carton of those), to dozens of other items that I could have easily have bought… yes our clothes are all falling apart and in need of repair.
And buttons from everyday plain and round to cutesy ducky, girly stuff,
elaborate gold or silver, giant to teeny tiny and metal macho guy to the buttons of your dreams and/​or nightmares! I was thinking in the back of my big head/​puny brain what articles of clothing I could replace the boring (yawn) buttons with.
Yes, I did buy a Bruce Lee patch along with those labels that say,
«Made with Love By» for my handy crafty friends, along with several items mentioned in the review.
Please support this wonderful new business. The people who run it used to work at the late great Poppy’s (RIP).
I plan to go back and maybe, just maybe take up sewing again… but I can’t pinky promise, just yet.
