Let me start by saying that i am a pie junky and a pie snob. I can’t pass up a pie especially if it is from those stands that are on the side of the road or from a place that makes pies as one of their only products. In the end i am always in search of the best pie ever. Somehow my brain tells me «you got to try this one, it looks so good, it has to be good, maybe this time it will be the best pie ever». So, i go ahead and try and invariably i am disappointed because they never taste quite right. I should also mention that i am a cherry pie addict but i am always leery of cherry pies because i have been disappointed to many times. So, i have settled on just trying to find the best pumpkin pie in the world. Well yesterday my search ended for the world’s best cherry pie. I went into this little place called Pietisseria and listed on the menu was cherry pie. I decided to try. I mentioned to the lady behind the counter that i was in search of the best cherry pie in the world as a way of asking if it is good cherry pie. I just did not want to be disappointed again. She confidently replied something like«Well, we will see you here again then». My first internal reaction was«you poor soul, you have no idea the pie snob you have just met». Well folks, i will be there again because yesterday my search for the best cherry-pie-ever has ended. It has taken 52 years, my search has sent me through dark allies of overly sweetened cherries, bad dried up crusts, and cherry soup pies. This cherry pie was nirvana. The cherries were just right, not to soft or to hard, just great texture. the cherries had that just right balance of being tart and sweet. The filling was just right, it does not try to overtake the cherries as many pies do in order to mask the fact that the cherries they chose had no taste. Finally the crust, oh my!!! The unfortunate part about finding the best pie ever is that now i have to find a new gastronomic goal in my life. At least, i know where to go for the best cherry pie. Now i will have to try their sweet-patatoe pie. I can’t wait.
