Tech Liminal is Oakland’s original Technology Hotspot and Salon — an accessible, technology-​focused community space where diverse minds meet and learn to apply the right tools to solve the right problems.

Tech Liminal features professional development groups focused on areas such as Programming, WordPress, Video, SEO, Online Marketing, Business Process and Product Management — and workshops that allow people to explore technology in the context of pure learning, such as Workshop Weekend: Arduino, Weekly Introduction to Programming, Product Therapy, Wordpress Support, and STEAM Camp.

History

Established in 2009.

As a technical consultant Mosoiu spent a lot of time traveling and in hotel rooms. Because she wanted to work with people and be part of a community, Mosoiu founded Tech Liminal. Tech Liminal was the first technology co-​working space in Oakland.

Mosoiu created Tech Liminal, which bills itself as a tech «hotspot and salon» that meets the needs of isolated professionals. «It’s a place where people from different backgrounds can share ideas and be creative together,» she said.

The name Tech Liminal was inspired by the psychological term «liminality,» or the threshold between two states of mind or existence. «Technology can help individuals and organizations cross thresholds of perception, efficiency and connectivity,» Mosoiu said.

Business Owner

Anca Mosoiu (born 1973) is a technical consultant and web developer who established the Oakland, California co-​working space Tech Liminal in 2009. She is credited with helping to build the tech industry in Oakland. She has been described as a «tech guru».
