History
Established in 1976.
The Old Lyme Inn building was constructed circa 1856 by the Champlain family. The 300-acre-estate was a working farm until the Connecticut Turnpike construction began in the early 1950’s.
After completion of the turnpike, the Champlain family home was sold and ultimately became the Barbizon Oak. In 1965, the building endured a major fire that closed the Barbizon Oak. In 1976, under new owners it became the Old Lyme Inn.
The Old Lyme Inn was purchased in 2011 by Ken and Chris Kitchings of Old Lyme. After a year-long renovation, the inn and restaurant reopened in 2012. In May 2013, the Side Door jazz club was opened to critical acclaim recently recognized as ‘Best Live Jazz’ by Connecticut Magazine.
