O J’s Cafe

Fast service, good prices. The salsa at the table was excellent. Very fresh. Gotta pay for chips, but they are better than most normal Mexican joints, so worth it.

I can’t add much to what’s already been said. During our experience last night, the staff was very friendly and the salsa was pretty good, but the rest of the food was… terrible. You could seriously make much better at your own home for much cheaper. No sides came with my entrée (cost: $ 10.75– outrageously overpriced), and the nachos appetizer we got was just microwaved chips and cheese. The chips were so hard, they were like rubber in my mouth. It sounds like this place used to be great, but it is probably the worst dining experience I have had in Omaha, maybe ever.

Hmmm… I’m not sure what to think about this place. The food was bland… chicken was dry and I am fairly certain the «cook» just reheated it all in the microwave. That was my first time and probably my last.

When OJ’s opened, it was apparently delicious. Years ago, Randy Travis autographed his photo there. Yesterday, for the first time in 15 years, I went back. Sadly, it was awful. The nacho chips were stale and barely edible (and I’m not that picky). The food is NOT Mexican, or even Tex-​Mex for that matter. It’s like amateur Mexican. Both my wife and I had stomach upset the following day – which, despite the «blah» experience, we were NOT expecting. On a positive note though, the salsa was delicious. Too bad it didn’t save the restaurant.

Not good at all! I ordered the chicken enchiladas and it tasted like chicken from out of a can. I would rather go to taco bell.

Pro: place was clean, chips & salsa was very good but unlike most Mexican places you have to pay for it. Con: way overpriced and I do mean way. A single bean and rice burrito was $ 10 with no sides. Food was very bland. If they didn’t charge so much I’d consider going back if I was nearby, but count me out from now on.

OJ’s is small little Mexican restaurant located right before the Mormon bridge directly off I-​680. It has that stuck in time type of vibe going on, inside and out. I think the other reviews tend to sum it up, either you really like it, or feel… meh. I do get a craving for OJ’s from time to time, and my go to meal is the Chicken Enchilada. The menu says it’s a ‘gut buster’ and it is. There is probably way too much cheese on it, but along with their salsa, it does the trick. The salsa I actually really like. Enough heat, and tasty! Thier OJ’s strips (basically fried tortilla strips, again covered in cheese) with a hefty helping of salsa along with an entrée will certainly bust your gut.

This place is… not so good. I ordered an enchilada that had shredded iceberg lettuce mixed in. As can be expected, the lettuce was wilted and unappetizing. The drink menu is unimpressive, and I’ve grown used to Mexican restaurants serving free tortilla chips, which they do not do here. The one thing this place does have going for it is fast service at lunch: our meals came out minutes after we placed our orders.

By far one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in town. Living out west my only complaint is that it is a bit out of the way. Other than that it is a great location, right off the the interstate before the Mormon bridge into Iowa. If you come here you have to get the beef nachos with flour chips, they are sooooo good. The enchiladas are huge!!! And also very good, ask them to put cottage cheese in them for a little something different. All and all I feel like you can’t go wrong eating here, I have been coming here since the early 90’s and will continue to eat here.

For years I’ve driven by this place on my way to the airport and wondered how it was. Finally I have tried this place and it’s not bad. I had the tacos and the chips and salsa and they were okay nothing spectacular. I will probably never go here again because of the location but it’s alright food for the price. The inside is kinda outdated yet still charming.

Horrible. I’m not picky and this place is disgusting. Food has no flavor. Ordered chicken taco and it was just chicken with no flavorings… I never leave reviews… had to for this one… yuck!!! 4 dollars for a taco I could have made at home.

This is the WORST. I sat near the kitchen to watch as the the «cook» worked out of #10 cans. The food was disgusting and the service was slow and indifferent. If you want Mexican food… go to to South Omaha… or a chain… anywhere but here.

This place had a lot of charm, and the staff was kind, but the food was pretty meh. It’s a VERY Americanized Mexican restaurant. I sat at the «bar» near the kitchen, and everything I saw coming out was covered in thickly-​shreded cheddar cheese.
I had two tacos (on sale for $ 2.00 each before 6:00 p.m.) and was amazed by the amount of cheese that covered the first one (fortunately I ordered them one at a time so I could adjust my order accordingly for the second). The basic taco here is ground beef, lettuce, tomato, and shredded cheese. The basic taco at most «real» Mexican places I’ve been is small pieces of beef, onion, and cilantro. No cilantro was available at OJ’s. Nor was fresh avocado (which I also like on my tacos), though they did have some not-​so-​great guacamole for $ 1.50.
I could eat here again if I were in the neighborhood, but I certainly wouldn’t go out of my way for the food. And that’s too bad, because the ambiance is very quaint and unique.

Brought an out-​of-​town friend, as he likes to try local places. Likes Mexican, but has enough chain restaurants. He decided on the beef, cheese, onion, & cottage cheese enchilada with a little help from the waitress. He wasn’t too sure about the cottage cheese. I had my usual cheese & onions enchilada. Both were good, the size was impressive, and he was surprised he liked the cottage cheese. The waitress was friendly and helpful, and so was the owner.

I’m torn… I had the burrito. It’s definitely not authentic Mexican food. More like an American making Mexican but keeping American qualities. For example, the burrito had chunks of beef… not ground beef… some cheap steak I’m guessing. Beans were also included along with some kind of gravy. And by gravy, I mean the kind you’d put over mashed potatoes. This was all wrapped in a fresh flour tortilla and cheese melted on top. It was huge! But it was also $ 9.95. The taste was OK. To give it a kick I put some of the homemade salsa on top. Much better!
It came out about 2 seconds after the waitress went back to put in my order. I’m sure everything is already heated and then slapped together and nuked… or run under here lamps. It was served with a spoon. *confused*
The service was great. There was an abundance of «honey», «sweety» and «darling»… which I could have gone without my total bill was $ 11.74. Not sure how since my burrito was $ 9.95 and I drank water. My fault that I didn’t ask.
I’d go back… probably try the $ 2 tacos.

Took out of town family there tonight for early dinner. Honestly I am undecided still how I feel …
I ordered the meat nachos which were tasty. I had to pay extra for the sour cream (?) but what made the dish was the sauce that they had table side! I assume they make it there and it made the nachos alone worth going back for!
Family that was with me ordered the taco salad as well as some kind of taco plate. There was a brief description, but one would assume for approximately $ 9 the taco would have come with beans or rice. It didn’t and the salad was basically the size of the taco — in fact I think the same shell, just fried and shaped differently. Quite a bit to pay for the amount and quality. They were a little disappointed, and the chicken «taco» wasn’t even warm. (?) And to me it and the salad looked a little plain.

I’ve been going here for about 30 years. Everytime I go I always intend to buy something different, but I always buy the Burrito, which is big. I always love it and I love their hot sauce. The sauce is homemade, so sometimes it is hotter than other times. It’s a small little place and they have limited hours, but I love it. It’s very reasonably priced.
